Even songs are turned out like buttons or automobile tires--all cast from the same mold.

As with psychopathy, people with NPD make up approximately 1 per cent of the population with rates greater in men. Another direct comparison between those suffering with NPD and psychopathy/sociopathy is that both types are characterised by exaggerated feelings of self-importance. In its moderate to extreme forms these people are excessively preoccupied with personal adequacy, power, prestige and vanity; mentally unable to see the destructive damage they are causing themselves and others. Symptoms of the NPD disorder include seeking constant approval from others who are successful in positions of power in whatever form it may be. Many are selfish, grandiose pathological liars; their egos and sense of self-esteem over-inflated, while at once they are torn between exaggerated self-appraisal and the reality that they might never amount to much.

It is not unemployment as such that causes violence; what causes violence, rather, is the loss of self-esteem and feelings of self-worth, the blow especially to one's sense of adequacy as a man (men are, after all, expected to be the "breadwinners" and to "bring home the bacon" in all patriarchal cultures), and the shame brought on by rejection and enforced passivity and dependency, which can all be precipitated by being fired from one's job. Can be, but are not necessarily. For the psychological meaning of unemployment is shaped both by the psychological strengths and vulnerabilities of the individual, and by the meanings that it is given by the culture in which the individual lives — as embodied and symbolized, for example, by the way in which the society responds economically and in terms of moral value judgements to those who are unemployed.

Delusionary Defilade: Leaders who surround themselves with sycophants remain ‘protected’ from seeing things as they are, continue to see things as they want them to be, and delusions of adequacy often follow. This is usually evidenced by a ‘leader’ telling a group to ‘not let perfect be the enemy of good’ when no plan, perfect or good, is likely to be presented as a course of action. The idea of ‘how things should be’ regarding the problem itself or the team’s capabilities, rather than understanding how things ‘are,’ will result in an incorrect orientation that prevents even a good plan from emerging.

You hold on to what has departed, as though it comprises all of your energy. Have you had a glimpse of your existence? If you are one with the ocean, which scientists have barely even explored the opening of it, does it occur, that perhaps your existence is a magnitude of infinity? You're limitless, let what has departed go.

Shake off the heavy weight of what's finished from your shoulders. Throw away the hot coals in your hands. Delight in new beginnings, Delight in new possibilities, Delight in the new opportunities to create. Let the unexplored part of you come to life, it always turns out better than before

Starve your everlasting cravings to show up in places that exhaust your body. Starve your desires to show up in places that hold your sensitiveness in barbaric manners. Starve your cravings for places that empty your soul of its oils. Sit with these cravings, until they discover they have no one left to feed them. You deserve to be well-fed and nourished.

Don’t confuse tears of a love that chatters unfulfillment for divine love, for divine love renders itself in a fulfilled state. Frustrated love renders itself in the form of scarcity.

The love you are hunting for will not prevent you from the obligation to cultivate love within yourself. You will still return home, to more emptiness. Splash interminable seeds of love within yourself, watch your garden bloom, watch your flowers transform into invitations, instead of chasing more nothingness.

The invariant recollection of pain is the divine existence reminding you of the unattended sorrow that ought to vacate your body. Don’t be terrified to excavate the grave of pain you concealed when you were frightened to witness its dissolvement. You speak of it continuously and accept an identity out of it, but it wails for a release, for the light inside of you makes it unbearable to exist. It doesn’t belong there. Approach pain like a giant, approach pain like a thug, grab it and hold it inside your hands, squeeze the life out of it. Never offer pain an opportunity of permanency in your body. Destroy the bungalow you comfortably assembled for pain, the area it inhabits is meant for something far more beautiful. Sit with it, until it loses all its incense.

We are unlike the Christians of New Testament times. Our approach to life is conventional and static; theirs was not. The thought of "safety first" was not a drag on their enterprise as it is on ours. One reason, it seems, is that in our heart of hearts we are afraid of the consequence of going the whole way into the Christian life. We shrink from accepting burdens of responsibility for others because we fear we should not have the strength to bear them. We shrink from accepting a way of life in which we forfeit material security because we are afraid of being left stranded. We shrink from being meek because we are afraid that if we do not stand up for ourselves we shall be trodden down and victimized, and end up among life's casualties and failures. We shrink from breaking with social conventions in order to serve Christ because we fear that if we did, the established structure of our life would collapse all around us, leaving us without a footing anywhere. It is these half-conscious fears, this dread of insecurity, rather than any deliberate refusal to face the cost of following Christ, which make us hold back. We feel that the risks of out-and-out discipleship are too great for us to take. In other words, we are not persuaded of the adequacy of God to provide for all the needs of those who launch out wholeheartedly on the deep sea of unconventional living in obedience to the call of Christ. Therefore, we feel obliged to break the first commandment just a little, by withdrawing a certain amount of our time and energy from serving God in order to serve mammon. This, at the bottom, seems to be what is wrong with us. We are afraid to go all the way in accepting the authority of God, because of our secret uncertainty as to his adequacy to look after us if we do. Now, let us call a spade a spade. The name of the game we are playing is unbelief.....

What I do articulate throughout Back to the Breast is that the ideology of natural motherhood shaped the path of breast-feeding’s return to popularity in every way. The marriage of breastfeeding to the ideology of natural motherhood was an important component in the early back-to-the-breast movement and this fact has continued to have meaningful implications for breastfeeding practice up through today. While it has competed with other ideological constructions in shaping ideas and practices surrounding breastfeeding over much of the last century, natural motherhood has fundamentally influenced how Americans today have come to think about breastfeeding. In the chapters that follow, I focus on the persistence in the belief by countless Americans over the past century that breastfeeding holds value and meaning that transcends nutritional adequacy and infant survival. I trace the efforts, science, struggles, triumphs, and failures of the people and ideas behind the back-to-the-breast movement over much of the last century so that we might better imagine a society in which all mothers receive the support they need to make their experiences as mothers personally rewarding and fulfilling.
