I'm not myself," she offered, guiltily. She softened around Tik Tok, and when she did she was, for those rare moments, girlish. He smiled. "You can never say that. You're just a piece of yourself right now that you don't like.
Jodi Lynn Anderson (Tiger Lily)
Everyone will think I'm ugly." Tik Tok smiled. "That's true. But we are a small village. We have narrow tastes. There's no telling who else in the world would think you're beautiful.
Jodi Lynn Anderson (Tiger Lily)
Did you know I always thought you were braver than me? Did you ever guess that that was why I was so afraid? It wasn't that I only loved some of you. But I wondered if you could ever love more than some of me. I knew I'd miss you. But the surprising thing is, you never leave me. I never forget a thing. Every kind of love, it seems, is the only one. It doesn't happen twice. And I never expected that you could have a broken heart and love with it too, so much that it doesn't seem broken at all. I know young people look at me and think my youth seems so far away, but it's all around me, and you're all around me. Tiger Lily, do you think magic exists if it can be explained? I can explain why I loved you, I can explain the theory of evolution that tells me why mermaids live in Neverland and nowhere else. But it still feels magic. The lost boys all stood at our wedding. Does it seem odd to you that they could have stood at a wedding that wasn't yours and mine? It does to me. and I'm sorry for it, and for a lot, and I also wouldn't change it. It is so quiet here. Even with all the trains and the streets and the people. It's nothing like the jungle. The boys have grown. Everything has grown. Do you think you will ever grow? I hope not. I like to think that even if I change and fade away, some other people won't. I like to think that one day after I die, at least one small particle of me - of all the particles that will spread everywhere - will float all the way to Neverland, and be part of a flower or something like that, like that poet said, the one that your Tik Tok loved. I like to think that nothing's final, and that everyone gets to be together even when it looks like they don't, that it all works out even when all the evidence seems to say something else, that you and I are always young in the woods, and that I'll see you sometime again, even if it's not with any kind of eyes I know of or understand. I wouldn't be surprised if that is the way things go after all - that all things end happy. Even for you and Tik Tok. and for you and me. Always, Your Peter P.S. Please give my love to Tink. She was always such a funny little bug.
Jodi Lynn Anderson (Tiger Lily)
But Tik Tok believes everything's circular, including men and women. He says nature seems to go around and around, and that we all have bits of everything.
Jodi Lynn Anderson (Tiger Lily)
For the next couple of weeks she held Peter like a secret in her heart, lying right under her necklace. I could see him written on her face, and Tik Tok, too, seemed to catch shadows of him, because he'd stop to stare at her, puzzled, as if he'd just seen the boy flit across her eyes-seen the ghost of the kiss lingering for a second on the skin of her neck before disappearing.
Jodi Lynn Anderson (Tiger Lily)
People say I'm not much of a girl either," Tiger Lily said. She thought of Tik Tok, who was fond of saying that people were all bits of each thing, boy and girl.
Jodi Lynn Anderson (Tiger Lily)
One can be ugly in looks, but lovely in disposition.
L. Frank Baum (Tik-Tok of Oz (Oz, #8))
I would have liked Allie better if she were a shy, bookish type I could have taken on shopping sprees at indie bookstores instead of an iPhone-addicted, TikTok-obsessed basic bitch in training.
R.F. Kuang (Yellowface)
You never could tell when someone would stop growing old in Neverland. For Tik Tok, it had been after wrinkles had walked long deep tracks across his face, but for many people, it was much younger. Some people said it occurred when the most important thing that would ever happen to you triggered something inside that stopped you from moving forward.
Jodi Lynn Anderson (Tiger Lily)
Tatiana de Rosnay (The House I Loved)
If we didn't want anything, we would never get anything, good or bad. I think our longings are natural, and if we act as nature prompts us we can't go far wrong.
L. Frank Baum (Tik-Tok of Oz (Oz, #8))
Nduk, sekolah nang SMP iku mesti. Koen kudu sekolah. Uripmu cek gak soro koyok aku, Nduk! Aku gak lulus SD. Gak iso opo-opo. Aku mek iso masak tok. Ojo koyok aku yo Nduk! Cukup aku ae sing gak sekolah...," kata Ibuk.

I'm not myself,' she offered, guilty. She softened around Tik Tok, and when she did she was, for those rare moments, girlish. He smiled. 'You can never say that. You're just a piece of yourself right now that you don't like.
Jodi Lynn Anderson (Tiger Lily)
Public opinion is a weak tyrant compared with our own private opinion. What a man thinks of himself, that it is which determines, or rather indicates, his fate.
Henry David Thoreau (Walden & Civil Disobedience)
The video would probably go viral on GodTok or whatever they were using on Mount Olympus these days.
Rick Riordan (The Chalice of the Gods (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #6))
Koks žmogus, toks ir jo televizorius.
Juozas Erlickas
Being rejected is not the end of your life, it's a means to an end for your life. And that end is your destiny.
Adetokunbo O. Adeoye (Rejected for a Purpose: How God Uses Rejection to Help You Find and Fulfill Your Destiny)
Faik Konica
It is the same in life; the heart changes, and that is our worst misfortune; but we learn of it only from reading or by imagination; for in reality its alteration, like that of certain natural phenomena, is so gradual that, even if we are able to distinguish, successively, each of its different states, we are still spared the actual sensation of change.
Nedaug - tik vieno, vieno vienintelio man užtektų.
Jonas Mekas (I Had Nowhere to Go)
Colton picked up a glass of cider and tok a sip. "We're not a couple, Olivia and I, so if you want to flirt with me, it's all right." He was teasing, but there was also truth mixed into this game. Perhaps more than he knew, and I felt as though everything inside of me was stretched tight. I didn't want to face him, so I kept my gaze centered out on the dance floor. "I see. Should I bat my eyelashes or were you thinking along the lines of pointless small talk?" "Actually, I like the way you keep looking at me." "I don't keep looking at you." "Yes, you do." I didn't look at him, just to prove the point.
Janette Rallison (It's a Mall World After All)
The law was all set up to keep people convinced their fears were well-guided. They came up with ways to prove themselves right about people who seemed a little different.
Ottessa Moshfegh (McGlue: From the author of TikTok sensations My Year of Rest and Relaxation and Lapvona)
Pasaulis niekada neatrodo toks gražus, kaip tą akimirką, kaii jį paliekame, kai jums atima laisvę
Erich Maria Remarque (The Night in Lisbon)
Toks jau tas skausmas, - tarė Ogastas, grįžtelėdamas į mane. - Jį tereikia iškentėti.
John Green (The Fault in Our Stars)
Nowadays it’s all TikTok and stepsister porn. I don’t get it. Let’s read on.
C.W. Longbottom (Tears of the Anaren)
This has been an afternoon of romantic omens, gentle on the heart, but why me? Love never happens to me. Everything else, but not love. Does Arnold play drums? Guess I never asked. I’ve been terribly insensitive this last year. I haven’t even checked to see if he has a TikTok account.
Michael Benzehabe (Zonked Out: The Teen Psychologist of San Marcos Who Killed Her Santa Claus and Found the Blue-Black Edge of the Love Universe)
Now there are days when she is content, and days when she’s restless. But there is never a day when she doesn’t see Peter everywhere. Things hurt, and don’t hurt, and hurt again. Eighty years later, and she can still feel surprised that he’s gone. And then so much of the time, she’s glad. But just as she looks for Tik Tok in everything around her, she looks for Peter in the woods, out gathering, in the lagoon, in the burrow that is now abandoned. She goes up on the cliffs from time to time and stands there for hours, continuing her long good-bye. It’s not for lack of loyalty to her husband. It is just that she was fifteen once for the first time, and Peter walked across her heart, and left his footprints there.
Jodi Lynn Anderson
Richard Bach (Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah)
I wouldn't be surprised if Ruggedo melted Tik-Tok in one of his furnaces and made copper pennies of him." "In that case, I would still keep going," remarked Tik-Tok, calmly. "Pennies do," said Betsy regretfully.
L. Frank Baum (Tik-Tok of Oz (Oz, #8))
I came only to report the news, to gather information. I didn't come to find out the truth.
Siriworn Kaewkan (The Murder Case of Tok Imam Storpa Karde)
Aš dažnai norėdavau pravirkti išvydęs žydinčią gėlę; mėnulio žaidimą vandenyje; šviesius plaukus, juos taršė pavasarinis vėjas; norėdavau pravirkti išvydęs zvimbiančią musę. Nevalia. Mano smegenų centrinėje sėdi rūstus klerkas. Jis rūšiuoja mintis ir jausmus. Keturiasdešimt metų sėdi klerkas toje pačioje kėdėje. Štai kodėl jis toks pedantiškas ir nepermaldaujamas. Ne, ponas, tamstai nevalia būti sentimentaliu! Šalin šiuos popierėlius, čerkšt, čerkšt, ir į dėžę. Jie priklauso valytojai. Jis logiškas, rūstusis klerkas. Jei jo nepaklausyčiau - pralaimėčiau. Kaip Dante dangų, kaip Dostojevskis verkšlenančius personažus.
Antanas Škėma (Balta drobulė)
One morning at home, Tik Tok had Tiger Lily try on her wedding dress. He seemed disappointed that it fit so well. Despite their expectations, it became her. Its simplicity and sleekness were subtle enough to highlight her strong, high cheeks, the shine in her hair. It was a dress made by someone who knew her. It was her freedom and her silence sewn into a dress. She hated what it meant. But she loved the dress because it was from Tik Tok's hands and because it made her feel like herself. She took it off.
Jodi Lynn Anderson (Tiger Lily)
- <...> Žmogus nesi jau toks svarbus. - Nesvarbus? - Švarcas vėl pakėlė sutrikusį veidą. - Nesvarbus?
Erich Maria Remarque (The Night in Lisbon)
Ducks are the stars of the karaoke bird world. You’d think it would be songbirds or parrots (or boobies, because who doesn’t like to see those on stage?), but nope, they all quit going down to the corner bar to try to impress the locals with their vocals, and they joined TikTok so they could dance their way to fame.
Jarod Kintz (Ducks are the stars of the karaoke bird world (A BearPaw Duck And Meme Farm Production))

The clock is walking, i can hear his boots tik tok tik tok tikking, it's too dark i can't see but i am hearing sound of real boots too and it feels like billions of people are following him. I am so scared, i don't know why i am writing this but i am telling the truth, i am feeling like all of them are going somewhere, far far away from me.

Summer #28: 2020 What are we talking about in 2020? Kobe Bryant, Covid-19, social distancing, Zoom, TikTok, Navarro cheerleading, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, and… The presidential election. A country divided. Opinions on both sides. It’s everywhere: on the news, on the late-night shows, in the papers, online, online, online,

One would think, to look at him, that he ought to be jolly; one might think, considering his enormous wealth, that he ought to be happy; but this was not the case.

It’s a waste of time. I spend two hours on TikTok, and I lose two hours. I spend two hours in my workshop, and I have a chair. I prefer the chair.
Abby Jimenez (Part of Your World (Part of Your World, #1))
I had the feeling, like alone on the road at night, that there was something watching me, something waiting for me to falter, something just hidden in the shadows waiting to pounce. That was God.
Ottessa Moshfegh (McGlue: From the author of TikTok sensations My Year of Rest and Relaxation and Lapvona)
Så rusla vi hjemover. Snakka om alt vi skulle gjøre. Om The Snafus.
Lars Saabye Christensen (Beatles (Beatles-trilogien, #1))

Agatha Christie (Nemesis (Miss Marple, #11))
Fredrik Backman (Anxious People)
Po ketvirčio valandos intymaus bendravimo dviejų žmonių, kurie jaučia ne meilę, o tik trauką kits kitam, atsiranda toks pasitikėjimas, toks lengvas bendravimas, toks švelnus dėmesys, kokių kartais nesitikėk nė po dešimties labai tvirtos draugystės metų.
André Maurois (To an Unknown Lady)

Çalınan Taç / The Prince and the Pauper
Mark Twain (The Prince and the Pauper)
Frictionlessness is always the Filterworld ideal—as soon as you slow down, you might just reconsider what you’re clicking on and giving your data away. “Friction allows people to think about their actions,” she continued, a point that applies just as well to Spotify radio or the TikTok feed. If you think too much, you might stop.
Kyle Chayka (Filterworld: How Algorithms Flattened Culture)
Og all min handlende utagering hjalp like lite som ordene hadde gjort.

Hermann Hesse (Peter Camenzind)

I never mean to be a bitch, but sometimes the thorns inside me squeeze too tightly and horrible things burst from my lips.
Katee Robert (Wicked Beauty - Dark Olympus, T3 (Edition Française) : Phénomène TikTok (French Edition))

As legendary Chinese technology entrepreneur Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun judged, reflecting on lessons from his long career, “Seizing the opportune moment exceeds far, far beyond any other tactics.
Matthew Brennen (Attention Factory: The Story of TikTok & China’s ByteDance)
Bestandig. Selv da jeg…” “Selv da du hva da?” “Du vet.” “Hva?” “Helvette.

Zar vatreni mladić Da građanin bude, Što, miran i mlitav, ramenima sliježe I klima glavom U spavaćoj kapi?

Nails and nuggets!" roared the King; "how dare you bring that beast here and enter my presence unannounced?" "There wasn't anybody to announce me," replied Betsy. "I guess your folks were all busy. Are you conquered yet?" "No!" shouted the King, almost beside himself with rage.

Žvelgiu į jį, į savo pirmąjį agentą, užverbuotą užsienyje. Savo puikios šalies saugumą jis parduoda už trisdešimt sidabrinių. Man tai visai nepatinka. Toks likimas. jei ne čia, tai kitoje vietoje sistema man rastų žiaurų darbą. jei atsisakysiu, sistema mane praris. Nesu lasivas žmogus. Bet tu, šunsnuki, laisva valia veržiesi mums padėti. Jei būtum pasipainiojęs man tuomet, kai buvau Specnaze, aš tau, šliuže, dantis dilde būčiau nudildęs. Staiga prisimenu, kad agentams reikia šypsotis. Ir aš jam šypsausi.

Challenges also helped combat the final most difficult barrier of all—motivation. There was a sense of immediacy. Users either chose to participate in the fun challenge while it was trending today or risk missing out. Participation also gave people a sense of being part of a wider community.

Mirtis – toks keistas daiktas. Žmonės neretai nugyvena gyvenimą, tarsi ji neegzistuotų, nors mirtis be ne geriausiai pagrindžia esmines gyvenimo atkarpas. O mes liksime vieni.

Every Saturday I would go to the library and choose my books for the week. One late-autumn morning, despite menacing clouds, I bundled up and walked as always, past the peach orchards, the pig farm and the skating rink to the fork in the road that led to our sole library. The sight of so many books never failed to excite me, rows and rows of books with multicolored spines. I’d spent an inordinate amount of time choosing my stack of books that day, with the sky growing more ominous. At first, I wasn’t worried as I had long legs and was a pretty fast walker, but then it became apparent that there was no way I was going to beat the impending storm. It grew colder, the winds picked up, followed by heavy rains, then pelting hail. I slid the books under my coat to protect them, I had a long way to go; I stepped in puddles and could feel the icy water permeate my ankle socks. When I finally reached home my mother shook her head with sympathetic exasperation, prepared a hot bath and made me go to bed. I came down with bronchitis and missed several days of school. But it had been worth it, for I had my books, among them The Tik-Tok Man of Oz, Half Magic and The Dog of Flanders. Wonderful books that I read over and over, only accessible to me through our library.

Jau keletą metų to nemačiau. Niekad niekas nepasikeis. Tiesiog juokinga matant, ką žmonės daro iš savo gyvenimo

But when we get these partnerships, all these “best friends” we married don’t text us back like our female best friends do. They can’t wipe a counter to save their lives. Don’t know how to vacuum. And their learned helplessness becomes the punch line to all our jokes. Memes lampoon this male inability to function. A TikTok video shows the face of an exasperated wife on the phone with her husband, who is presumably wandering the grocery store looking for ketchup, and she’s lip-syncing to the song from Hamilton, “Look at where you are. Look at where you started. The fact that you’re alive right now is a miracle.” Hilarious. These are the good men.

Active methods (subscription and search) are better for larger screen devices often used for serious work or study, where session times tend to be longer, and keyboards allow for accurate and fast input. Passive methods of content distribution are, in general, more suitable for the fragmented time and small screens of smartphones.

Čustva so energetski tokovi z različnimi frekvencami.

Neither Rafi nor I saw what was happening. No one did. That computers would take over our lives: Sure. But the way that they would turn us into different beings? The full flavor of our translated hearts and minds? Not even my most enlightened fellow programmers at CRIK foresaw that with any resolution. Sure, they predicted personal, portable Encyclopedia Britannicas and group real-time teleconferencing and personal assistants that could teach you how to write better. But Facebook and WhatsApp and TikTok and Bitcoin and QAnon and Alexa and Google Maps and smart tracking ads based on keywords stolen from your emails and checking your likes while at a urinal and shopping while naked and insanely stupid but addictive farming games that wrecked people’s careers and all the other neural parasites that now make it impossible for me to remember what thinking and feeling and being were really like, back then? Not even close.

The ability to do hard things is perhaps the most useful ability you can foster in yourself or your children. And proof that you are someone who can do them is one of the most useful assets you can have on your life resume. Our self-image is composed of historical evidence of our abilities. The more hard things you push yourself to do, the more competent you will see yourself to be. If you can run marathons or throw double your body weight over your head, the sleep deprivation from a newborn is only a mild irritant. If you can excel at organic chemistry or econometrics, onboarding for a new finance job will be a breeze. But if we avoid hard things, anything mildly challenging will seem insurmountable. We’ll cry into TikTok over an errant period at the end of a text message. We’ll see ourselves as incapable of learning new skills, taking on new careers, and escaping bad situations. The proof you can do hard things is one of the most powerful gifts you can give yourself.

Did you know I always thought you were braver than me? Did you ever guess that that was why I was so afraid? It wasn’t that I only loved some of you. But I wondered if you could ever love more than some of me. I knew I’d miss you. But the surprising thing is, you never leave me. I never forget a thing. Every kind of love, it seems, is the only one. It doesn’t happen twice. And I never expected that you could have a broken heart and love with it too, so much that it doesn’t seem broken at all. I know young people look at me and think my youth seems so far away. But it’s all around me, and you’re all around me. Tiger Lily, do you think magic exists if it can be explained? I can explain why I loved you, I can explain the theory of evolution that tells me why mermaids live in Neverland and nowhere else. But it still feels magic. The lost boys all stood at our wedding. Does it seem odd to you that they could have stood at a wedding that wasn’t yours and mine? It does to me. And I’m sorry for it, and for a lot, and I also wouldn’t change it. It is so quiet here. Even with all the trains and the streets and the people. It’s nothing like the jungle. The boys have grown. Everything has grown. Do you think you will ever grow? I hope not. I like to think that even if I change and fade away, some other people won’t. I like to think that one day after I die, at least one small particle of me—of all the particles that will spread everywhere—will float all the way to Neverland, and be part of a flower or something like that, like that poet said, the one that your Tik Tok loved. I like to think that nothing’s final, and that everyone gets to be together even when it looks like they don’t, that it all works out even when all the evidence seems to say something else, that you and I are always young in the woods, and that I’ll see you sometime again, even if it’s not with any kind of eyes I know of or understand. The next break came from statute law, namely from the Equal Science Act. This says that “no scientific theory, hypothesis, principle, law definition, program, procedure or statement may be taught in any California school while in conflict with any other theory etc arising from any religious teaching, unless both theories etc are given equal emphasis as equally valid”. The idea was to give Genesis equal time with evolution as a creation theory, but it soon got out of hand, with Ptolemaic Anabaptists insisting on equal time with the Copernican theory, and finally with the Christian Flat Earth Assembly (Swiss Synod), whose representatives brought a suit against a California teacher for mentioning satellites. These are no satellites orbiting a flat earth, they pointed out, and so anyone mentioning satellites should also express doubt about their existence. A group of astronomers filed a countersuit, claiming that if satellites were unreal, their livelihood was in jeopardy. Moreover, satellite communications could not work and could not therefore be licensed by the government. ‘The state legislature had to meet quickly and draft an amendment to the California Comsat Act of 1998. In effect, the amendment hedged on the question of the reality of satellites by considering them as “sentient devices”. Thus if satellites believed in their own existence, they had a right to be real. Of course this opened up the whole question of freedom of religious belief for robots
