The system that God has given us is a holistic system. This is why the Torah is concerned with how we treat others, what we eat, how we behave, and how we produce, keep and share our wealth. To finally surrender ourselves to healing, we have to have three spaces opened up within us - and all at the same time: our opinionated head, our closed-down heart, and our defensive and defended body. That is the summary work of spirituality - and it is indeed work. Yes, it is also the work of “a Power greater than ourselves,” and it will lead to a great luminosity and depth of seeing. That is why true faith is one of the most holistic and free actions a human can perform. It leads to such broad and deep perception that most traditions would just call it “light.”
Remember, Jesus said that we also are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14), as well as saying it about himself (John 8:12). Strange that we see light in him but do not imitate him in seeing the same light in ourselves. Such luminous seeing is quite the opposite of the closed-minded, dead-hearted, body-denying thing that much religion has been allowed to become. As you surely have heard before, “Religion is lived by people who are afraid of hell. Spirituality is lived by people who have been through hell and come out enlightened.”
The innocuous mental belief systems of much religion are probably the major cause of atheism in the world today, because people see that religion has not generally created people who are that different, more caring, or less prejudiced than other people. In fact, they are often worse because they think they have God on their small side. I wish I did not have to say this, but religion either produces the very best people or the very worst. Jesus makes this point in many settings and stories. Mere mental belief systems split people apart, whereas actual faith puts all our parts (body, heart, and head) on notice and on call. Honestly, it takes major surgery and much of one’s life to get head, heart, and body to put down their defenses, their false programs for happiness, and their many forms of resistance to what is right in front of them. This is the meat and muscle of the whole conversion process.

One of the first actions we take at Passages is to ruthlessly scrutinize, always under a doctor's supervision and care, the specific necessity of any mind- altering or mood-altering medications that our clients are taking. As soon as any non essential drugs are out of their systems, the feelings they were trying to suppress usually emerge. When that happens, we can see what symptoms the client was masking with drugs or alcohol.

I want to use this practice:
Whenever I express my views, thoughts or anything I deeply believe, I will welcome any opposing view or thought. I will listen with caring attention to what the other says, accepting it no matter how different or antagonistic it seems to be.
I will also deeply and sincerely thank them.
I will abstain from feeling accused or judged.
I will acknowledge the other as my shadow, an integral part of me who has accepted to relate with me.
I believe that a vision in order to manifest requires its opposite, the other polarity.
If my vision is truly holistic, I am not in a condition to oppose any alternative vision.
I intend to learn to accept what appears to be opposite, no matter how unpleasant or contrary it is. I believe that only in the paradox of this acceptance, in releasing the urge to be right, unity can be experienced and manifested.
I have tried all other options, and they have not worked, and this is the only I have left.
And for this purpose I am open to be patient, promoting the gestation of this healing process, for I know that all is one.

I think one of the most interesting and paradigm-shifting verses in the Bible is Romans 12v1 where Paul says, “I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is true worship.” Notice Paul’s language. Offer your bodies. Not your souls, your bodies! True sanctification and worship of God involves your soul and your body. God is after all of you. We worship by caring for our spiritual life, by reading the scriptures, prayer, and the disciplines. And we worship by going on a run, eating healthy and whole foods, spending time outside in praise of the Creator, and watching over the bodies God has blessed us with. True worship is holistic.

If you have a library of concepts and solutions internalized as chunked patterns, you can more easily skip to the right solution to a problem by listening to the whispers from your diffuse mode. Your diffuse mode can also help you connect two or more chunks together in new ways to solve unusual problems. There are two ways to solve problems—first, through sequential, step-by-step reasoning, and second, through more holistic intuition. Sequential thinking, where each small step leads deliberately toward the solution, involves the focused mode. Intuition, on the other hand, often seems to require a creative, diffuse mode linking of several seemingly different focused mode thoughts. Most difficult problems are solved through intuition, because they make a leap away from what you are familiar with.24 Keep in mind that the diffuse mode’s semi-random way of making connections means that the solutions it provides with should be carefully verified using the focused mode. Intuitive insights aren’t always correct!25

Keep it in its place, behind your family, your concern for the general life of the world, and your education. There are athletes and coaches who prepare to act as if athletics were life; it is not. Flowers are conscious, intelligent forces. They have been given to us for our happiness and our healing.
We can hasten our own evolution by through employing the tools offered to us by a conscious, caring Mother Nature—flowers and their essences.
Flower essences allow us to see into the soul of things—into ourselves, our world, and all living beings.
Flower essences are a response to the call of an ever-awakening humanity to minister to its spiritual needs.
Mother Nature’s pharmacy has long been accessible to those who have pried open her botanical medicine chest. And to those who wish to learn her language—the language of flowers—she bestows her most wonderful secrets of perfect well-being.
In keeping with herbalism’s ancient tradition of communing with the plant kingdom, flower essences have evolved as a natural expression of healing—in the simplest ways, through the simplest means.
(The) principle of magnetism is strongly operative in flower essences that vibrationally align us with the positive qualities that we seek to uncover within ourselves.
How, then, do flower essences work? Very well indeed.

Do not forget that physical rest is only one form of rest. Sabbath is about holistic healthy living, not just sleep or rest. God desires us to have spiritual, physical, mental, social, and emotional health. One can get all the physical sleep and rest one needs yet still be deeply drained spiritually. Or vice versa. That may mean that on the Sabbath day you need exercise. Again, in my own work of pastoral care, sweat is not a normal part of my job. If my heart rate goes up, it is the result of stress and anxiety. I do a lot of sitting, talking, listening, reading, and writing. Because a majority of my job is deskbound, I find that on the Sabbath day I need rest from my sedentary work by entering into some kind of physical activity. This may include spending time in the garden or playing basketball. I remember spending one Sabbath day picking up piles of wood that lay around our house. Such an activity, I agree, may seem ironic given the Old Testament admonition against picking up sticks on the Sabbath day. But that, for me, was the most restful thing I could do that day. The principle is this: the Sabbath is opposite day. By that, I mean that it is wise to aim our Sabbath activities around what we do not ordinarily do for work. Maybe you will need to pick up sticks on the Sabbath. Maybe you work the land and need a day to sit and read. For those whose work is physically demanding, the Sabbath may be most restful when it does not include physical activity. For others whose work is more sedentary or mental, perhaps physical activity is what is needed. The Sabbath offers us a counterrhythm to whatever we have been doing for the workdays.

A home with soul can feel like a warm hug—much like eating a home-cooked meal made with love. Whenever the judges on the television show Top Chef had contestant Carla Hall’s food, they’d nearly always say that her food “had soul and was made with love.” Hall defined her philosophy of “cooking with love” as putting one’s own care and warmth into food. She believes that if one is happy and calm while cooking, then this will show in the food, making it much better, whereas if one feels otherwise, it will degrade their cuisine. The same is true for your home. It takes care and warmth—as well as thoughtful decisions—to create a happy home with soul.

The actual light that libraries provide comes not just from the books and resources and shared resources but from the people within them and the stories they carry - both the library workers and the patrons. That light beams that we can care for others more justly, equally and empathetically. That we can do so much without tying it to capitalism, to profit and commodity. That we might all have a willingness to bolster and create shared free spaces, customs, and broadly accepted societal beliefs that we all have inherent rights as human beings. One buzzphrase that arose was 'sustainable development', which was used in two very different senses by opposing groups, because it left vague by what metric sustainability might be measured. Environmental groups meant by 'sustainability' a holistic approach by which life as we know it might be sustained. Scientists talked about 'sustainable cities' to mean cities that would not be destroyed by flooding in the wake of global warming. But to others, 'sustainable' meant a financial approach by which the oil industry as we know it might be sustained: sustainability was the minimum amount of environmental care that was affordable by those whose activities harmed the environment.

Atheists tend to pity the inhabitants of religiously dominated societies for the extent of the propaganda they have to endure, but this is to overlook secular societies’ equally powerful and continuous calls to prayer. A libertarian state truly worthy of the name would try to redress the balance of messages that reach its citizens away from the merely commercial and towards a holistic conception of flourishing. True to the ambitions of Giotto’s frescoes, these new messages would render vivid to us the many noble ways of behaving that we currently admire so much and so blithely ignore. We simply will not care for very long about the higher values when all we are given to convince us of their worth is an occasional reminder in a modestly selling, largely ignored book of essays by a so-called philosopher – while, in the city beyond, the superlative talents of the globe’s advertising agencies perform their phantasmagorical alchemy and set our every sensory fibre alight in the name of a new kind of cleaning product or savoury snack.

In a world pulsating with constant motion and demands, the pursuit of health often becomes a beacon guiding us through the tumultuous seas of life. Health is not merely the absence of disease but rather a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. It is a precious asset, intricately woven into the fabric of our existence, impacting every facet of our lives.
Understanding Health Holistically
Health transcends the boundaries of the physical body, encompassing mental and emotional fortitude as well. It is the harmonious interplay between these dimensions that fosters a sense of equilibrium and vitality. Nurturing health, therefore, necessitates a holistic approach that attends to the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit.
Cultivating Physical Vitality
The cornerstone of physical health lies in nurturing our bodies with proper nutrition, regular exercise, and ample rest. A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains provides the essential nutrients to fuel our bodies and fortify our immune systems. Likewise, engaging in regular physical activity not only strengthens muscles and bones but also uplifts mood and enhances cognitive function. Adequate sleep is equally paramount, as it rejuvenates our bodies, bolsters immunity, and consolidates memories.
Nurturing Mental Well-Being
The mind, a sanctuary of thoughts and emotions, demands tender care and cultivation. Mental well-being flourishes in an environment of self-compassion, mindfulness, and resilience. Practicing mindfulness, through meditation or deep breathing exercises, fosters a sense of presence and tranquility, allowing us to navigate the ebb and flow of life with grace. Moreover, cultivating meaningful connections with others, nurturing hobbies and interests, and seeking professional support when needed, are indispensable tools in nurturing mental resilience and fortitude.
Embracing Emotional Balance
Emotions, the kaleidoscope of human experience, are an intrinsic aspect of our being. Embracing our emotions with openness and acceptance allows us to harness their transformative power, rather than being swept away by their tide. Emotional intelligence, the ability to recognize, understand, and manage our emotions, empowers us to navigate the complexities of interpersonal relationships with empathy and grace. Furthermore, fostering a sense of purpose and meaning in life imbues our existence with a profound sense of fulfillment and contentment, nurturing emotional equilibrium.
Cultivating Social Connections
Human beings are inherently social creatures, wired for connection and belonging. Cultivating meaningful relationships with family, friends, and community fosters a sense of belonging and support, buffering against the storms of life. Engaging in acts of kindness and compassion not only enriches the lives of others but also nourishes our own sense of well-being and fulfillment.
Conclusion
In the tapestry of life, health is the golden thread weaving its way through every experience, illuminating our path with vitality and resilience. Nurturing health is not merely a destination but rather an ongoing journey, requiring diligence, self-awareness, and a commitment to holistic well-being. By tending to the interconnected dimensions of mind, body, and spirit, we pave the way for a life imbued with vibrancy, purpose, and fulfillment.

You should breathe through your mouth as often as you eat through your nose!
* * *
Consequences of chronic mouth breathing:
- Face distortion because mouth breathing affects the facial profile. John Mew who pioneered the field of Orthotropics found that the face becomes long and teeth become bucky over time in habitual mouth breathers.
- Dental crowding
- Tooth decay: This is because mouth becomes very dry overnight from mouth breathing. After 3-4 hours of mouth breathing, the mouth pH becomes more acidic. When teeth are acidic (< pH 5.4 ) they start to deteriorate and tend towards decay.
- Anxiety, because when breathing through the mouth, the sympathetic nervous system is activated. The vagus nerve connects the brain to the gut and regulates our stress response. Engaging in relaxation and nose-breathing can help with vagal toning and regulation of the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems.
- Gut dysbiosis because of the sympathetic activation making parasympathetic digestion less effective.
- Brain fog
- Learning difficulties
- Night time bedwetting in children

The psychiatrist, to his great credit, remained very calm in the face of her outburst and offered a second suggestion. “Sienna, if you prefer not to take pharmaceuticals, we can try a more holistic approach.” He paused. “It sounds as if you are trapped in a cycle of thinking about yourself and how you don’t belong in the world.” “That’s true,” Sienna replied. “I try to stop, but I can’t!” He smiled calmly. “Of course you can’t stop. It is physically impossible for the human mind to think of nothing. The soul craves emotion, and it will continue to seek fuel for that emotion—good or bad. Your problem is that you’re giving it the wrong fuel.” Sienna had never heard anyone talk about the mind in such mechanical terms, and she was instantly intrigued. “How do I give it a different fuel?” “You need to shift your intellectual focus,” he said. “Currently, you think mainly about yourself. You wonder why you don’t fit … and what is wrong with you.” “That’s true,” Sienna said again, “but I’m trying to solve the problem. I’m trying to fit in. I can’t solve the problem if I don’t think about it.” He chuckled. “I believe that thinking about the problem … is your problem.” The doctor suggested that she try to shift her focus away from herself and her own problems … turning her attention instead to the world around her … and its problems. That’s when everything changed. She began pouring all of her energy not into feeling sorry for herself … but into feeling sorry for other people. She began a philanthropic initiative, ladled soup at homeless shelters, and read books to the blind. Incredibly, none of the people Sienna helped even seemed to notice that she was different. They were just grateful that somebody cared. Sienna worked harder every week, barely able to sleep because of the realization that so many people needed her help.

The right brain, on the other hand, is holistic and nonverbal, sending and receiving signals that allow us to communicate, such as facial expressions, eye contact, tone of voice, posture, and gestures. Instead of details and order, our right brain cares about the big picture—the meaning and feel of an experience—and specializes in images, emotions, and personal memories. We get a “gut feeling” or “heart-felt sense” from our right brain. Some say the right brain is more intuitive and emotional, and we’ll use those terms in the following pages as a helpful shorthand to talk about what the right brain does. Many [Russian] treatment programmes will only treat [patients] for one health problem at a time, forcing them to choose between being treated for their addiction or for their TB. Since drug users' lives are often chaotic anyway, being unable to receive holistic care means that they often move between different treatment programmes, stopping and starting courses of different sorts of medication - exactly the circumstances that cause viruses to mutate. The result is one of the highest rates of multidrug-resistant TB in the world, a hazard to health that extends beyond the users themselves, affecting Russian society at large.

There's a big difference between an intervention that's introduced or suggested due to a true medical need - or even by your request - and one that's due to impatience; a difference between someone saying "We're noticing this, let's discuss your options as well as our recommendations and reasons" and "We're noticing this, and you have to do this." In the first case, a care provider gives information and wants to talk options; in the second, the care provider uses fear and shaming to coerce the decision they want. Having a working, respectful, and good relationship with your care provider can make all the difference here, but so can your clarity about this one thing: you deserve respect, options, and support. If you are feeling pressured into an intervention, if you are feeling guilted into an intervention, if you are feeling ignored, disrespected, or embarrassed in any way, as if you need to make a certain choice to please other people in the room, this is not good care and you need a second opinion - or a new care provider.

Angela Liberatore Melbourne says, In today’s digital age, social media platforms like Instagram offer therapy centers powerful tools to connect with potential clients, build community, and share valuable insights into mental health. With its visual appeal and engaged user base, Instagram presents unique opportunities for therapy centers to showcase their services, educate their audience, and ultimately attract new clients. This article explores affordable Instagram marketing strategies tailored specifically for therapy centers, drawing from personal experiences, anecdotes, and practical insights.
Harnessing the Power of Visual Storytelling
Instagram’s visual-centric platform provides therapy centers with a compelling medium to tell their stories and connect with audiences on a deeper level. Visual storytelling through photos and videos allows centers to showcase their facilities, introduce therapists, and highlight the compassionate care they provide. At our therapy center, we started sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses of our therapy rooms, therapist profiles, and client success stories through Instagram posts and Stories. These visuals not only humanized our services but also resonated with our audience, sparking meaningful conversations and inquiries about our therapy programs.
Creating Educational and Inspirational Content
Educational content on Instagram can position therapy centers as trusted resources for mental health information and support. By sharing tips for managing stress, insights into different therapy techniques, and inspirational quotes related to mental well-being, centers can engage their audience while providing valuable content. We launched a weekly series called “Wellness Wednesdays” where we posted practical tips for improving mental health and self-care practices. This series not only garnered positive feedback from our followers but also attracted new followers interested in holistic wellness solutions.
Engaging with Followers through Interactive Features
Instagram‘s interactive features such as polls, quizzes, and Q&A sessions provide therapy centers with opportunities to engage directly with their audience and foster meaningful interactions. By encouraging participation and responding promptly to comments and messages, centers can build rapport and trust with potential clients.
Example: We hosted a live Q&A session with one of our therapists where followers could ask questions about anxiety management techniques. This interactive session not only educated our audience but also showcased our expertise and approachability, leading to increased engagement and inquiries about our therapy services.
Leveraging User-Generated Content and Testimonials
User-generated content (UGC) and client testimonials are powerful tools for building social proof and credibility on Instagram. Encouraging clients to share their therapy journey through photos, videos, or written testimonials can provide authentic insights into the positive impact of therapy services. We created a hashtag (#TherapyJourney) and encouraged clients to share their progress and experiences with our therapy programs. Reposting UGC on our Instagram profile not only celebrated our clients’ successes but also demonstrated the effectiveness of our services to potential clients considering therapy.

think holistically about ways to support our best selves. 1Take a few moments to review what you learned from this chapter. Did you discover anything about yourself and what’s important to you? 2Be sure to write down your goals to make them more salient and easy to remember. 3Think carefully about the goals you set. Are they inspiring? Specific enough? About the right level of difficulty? 4I recommend keeping your goals somewhere visible and reviewing them several times over the coming days. 5Also consider talking about your goals with a supportive loved one, both to get their insight and to provide some accountability for yourself. Simply telling someone our intentions can raise our motivation to follow through. 6Finally, if you think of any additional goals, add them to your list.
