I can’t stop thinking about Elijah sitting underneath the juniper tree & asking God to die. God sent an angel who says, “This journey is too much for you.” & that he must eat. Elijah does, then he rests. He wakes up still feeling hopeless, & the angel repeats himself. It took Elijah longer than he wanted to get better. Sometimes we want to move but we can’t. Sometimes the journey is too much. It is not a sin to understand your limitations. Start there, get stronger, then get up.

Sometimes I’m Martha in the kitchen. I’m frustrated & bitter. I’m angry. I’m comparing. I’m focused on details, wondering why Jesus & others are not. But I need to always be Mary. I must always be sitting at Jesus’s feet. Listening. Listening. Listening. The details are not my job. Preparation is not the point. Jesus is always in my home. So I must always be sitting with Him, ready to hear every word.

It’s okay to struggle with something for long stretches of time. In fact, the long fight is what God applauds. Don’t give up, sanctification doesn’t happen over night. God works on different a timeline.
