Laurell K. Hamilton (Blue Moon (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #8))
Her expression falls slightly as she senses that my walls are up and she's not nearly strong enough to climb over. Not even today when she is leukaemia's version of Superwoman.

There was something so scary and heartbreaking about watching your lifetime Superwoman fall apart in front of you.
Brittainy C. Cherry (Art & Soul)

Dear Superwoman, remember that a rose does not stop looking beautiful, because of the thorns around it. So, never allow weaknesses to stop you from admiring your own strengths.
Gift Gugu Mona (Woman of Virtue: Power-Filled Quotes for a Powerful Woman)
You can’t save everybody. You aren’t superwoman.
Eldonna Edwards (This I Know)
You can’t do it all. No one can have two full-time jobs, have perfect children and cook three meals and be multi-orgasmic ’til dawn … Superwoman is the adversary of the women’s movement.”5
Sheryl Sandberg (Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead)
People very often say to me, 'How did you do it, how did you raise a baby and write a book?' And the answer is - I didn't do housework for four years. I am not Superwoman. And um, living in squalor, that was the answer.
J.K. Rowling
Trying to do it all and expecting it all can be done exactly right is a recipe for disappointment. Perfection is the enemy. Gloria Steinem said it best: 'You can't do it all. No one can have two full-time jobs, have perfect children and cook three meals and be multi-orgasmic 'til dawn... Superwoman is the adversary of the women's movement.'
Sheryl Sandberg (Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead)
Ayu Utami (Si Parasit Lajang: Seks, Sketsa, & Cerita)
Set aside the old traditional notion of female as nurturer and male as leader; set aside, too, the new traditional notion of female as superwoman and male as oppressor. Begin with that most frightening of all things, a clean slate. And then look, every day, at the choices you are making, and when you ask yourself why you are making them, find this answer: Because they are what I want, or wish for. Because they reflect who and what I am. This is the hard work of life in the world, to acknowledge within yourself the introvert, the clown, the artist, the homebody, the goofball, the thinker. Look inside. That way lies dancing to the melodies spun out by your own heart.
Anna Quindlen (Being Perfect)
Dear Superwoman, I don’t know how you do it, but I salute you. You are smart, you are brave and you will forever rise!
Gift Gugu Mona
You are superwoman. It takes a strong woman with a superwoman soul to speak her truth. You spoke the truth from your soul—the soul of a woman. You are superwoman!
Charlena E. Jackson (The Stars Choose Our Lovers)
Dear Superwoman, It is not your fault. They just did not realize your worth.
Gift Gugu Mona (Woman of Virtue: Power-Filled Quotes for a Powerful Woman)
I have always believed that women hold this world together with their love, passion, inspiration, hard work, vision and willingness to help others. Yet, increased responsibility in both our personal and professional lives – to become “superwomen” – is taking a devastating toll on our health and happiness.
Simin Hashemizadeh
The truth is despite the hard work and juggling required to keep the different facets of the frantic life afloat, the "superwoman" has one marvelous compensation. Being busy and being seen to be busy lets you off the hook. Buys you a way out of all aspects of your many roles you secretly despise ... like cleaning cupboards ... or entertaining your husband's business friends. When you combine wife, mother, career and all, each role become the perfect excuse for avoiding the worst aspects of the other.
Bettina Arndt
If you want to be regarded as a superwoman, you have to standout like one!
Yadi J.
- "Who the fuck is this Harry charakter?" "Superwoman, by all accounts.
Kae Tempest (The Bricks that Built the Houses)

Amber Fox (The Homeschooling Housewife: Juggling it all, one priority at a time)
We don't have to be perfect. And we don't have to be Superman or Superwoman. But it is critical that we possess the ability to help the people we lead experience victory.

Gift Gugu Mona (Woman of Virtue: Power-Filled Quotes for a Powerful Woman)
Dear Superwoman, Some things will always be unfair, especially if they are not your fault. Focus on what you can fix, rather than what is fair. That is how you can find rest.
Gift Gugu Mona (Woman of Virtue: Power-Filled Quotes for a Powerful Woman)
Dear Superwoman, Learn to unite with other women. United women can produce more, unlike divided women who cannot build anything together.

Gift Gugu Mona (Woman of Virtue: Power-Filled Quotes for a Powerful Woman)
Dear Superwoman, Failure is part of the journey, but do not let it define you. Allow God’s Favour to dominate your life.
Gift Gugu Mona (Woman of Virtue: Power-Filled Quotes for a Powerful Woman)
Gloria Steinem said it best: “You can’t do it all. No one can have two full-time jobs, have perfect children and cook three meals and be multi-orgasmic ’til dawn … Superwoman is the adversary of the women’s movement.”5
Sheryl Sandberg (Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead)
I’m saying that if you want to be happy, eradicate your attachment; cut your concrete concepts. The way to cut them is not troublesome—just change your attitude; switch your attitude, that’s all. It’s not really a big deal! It’s really skillful, reasonable. The way Buddhism explains this is reasonable. It’s not something in which you have to super-believe. I’m not saying you have to try to be a superwoman or superman. It’s reasonable and logical. Simply changing your attitude eliminates your concrete concepts.
Thubten Yeshe (The Essence of Tibetan Buddhism: The Three Principal Aspects of the Path and An Introduction to Tantra)
Why do people have mid-life crises? It’s because they don’t know who they are. And suddenly they realise time is running out. They have to fight to be authentic, to be REAL. All the time, people are having breakdowns brought on by identity crises. They have lived their lives in bad faith. They have been fakes and phonies, frauds and impostors. They have impersonated human beings rather than actually being human beings. They have spent their whole lives in a state of alienation from themselves and from God. Isn’t it time we saved the human race from the controllers, the brainwashers, the identity constructors? People can never be free until they are free to become who they really are. As Nietzsche said, “We want to become those who we are – the new, the unique, the incomparable, those who impose on themselves their own law, those who create themselves!” Is that not the formula for a new, free world, a world of Supermen and Superwomen, a transformed world of individuals on the path to divinity? Revalue all values. Abolish Abrahamism. Abolish the control machine.
Adam Weishaupt (Jehovah: The First Nazi)
Next time I cry, it won’t be because I have fallen in love and can’t get up.
J. Autherine (Wild Heart, Peaceful Soul: Poems and Inspiration to Live and Love Harmoniously)
When we are in a vulnerable state of emotional dysregulation, it often doesn’t take much to push us over the edge of feeling completely incapacitated by overwhelm. On days when our emotions are heightened and intense, if we take care to just do what is necessary, this is part of good self-care. We reaffirm that we need rest and to slow down.   We challenge thoughts that we have to be a superman or superwoman day in and day out with no break.  When we take the time to slow down and allow ourselves some downtime and rest, we can prevent further vulnerability
Debbie Corso (Stop Sabotaging: A 31-Day DBT Challenge to Change Your Life)
Women are indoctrinated from infancy about beauty. We feel we must be Superwoman and have it all: beauty, brains, a good work ethic, great with children, a good cook. The list is long, isn’t it? I think it’s particularly hard for women to accept the unconditional love God offers. We are so used to being held to such a high standard—and failing—that we feel we can never measure up. What a blessing when we realize that we don’t have to. God loves us, warts and all. We are safe in his arms. Safe to tell him our dreams, our fears, our failings. Safe to relax in his unconditional love.
Colleen Coble (Safe in His Arms (Under Texas Stars, #2))
Look at her!” one bystander shouted. “She’s a ninja!” “She’s Superwoman,” another exclaimed. Swinging into a high kick, I followed up with a combination of karate chops and punches. My foot made contact with an attacker’s nose, and his hands grabbed his face as blood spurted. Another got my fist in his ear, making him howl with pain. My audience was cheering and applauding. “Keep going, Superwoman! Take them apart!” “Amazing! Never saw anything like it!” The third of the attackers, the one who pinched Iman, tried to duck away from a strike by the side of my fist. As he stooped, I whirled. My heel caught him right on the point of the chin and sent him sprawling. Just that quickly, it was over.

pick Maddy and Josh up from Mum’s house no later than six each day, and we’re always home around ten minutes later. I thought that was enough to qualify me as a good mother, a parent who is there for her children. Yet I feel a niggle deep down that tells me he’s right. Once I get through the door each evening, I simply set my laptop up on the kitchen counter and carry on working. I often cook the children’s tea around updating the InsideOut4Kids website. The reality is, I’m there… but I’m not really there. Not all of me. For the first time, I consider the echoes of my own childhood, when Mum spent so much time in her bedroom. I can’t remember the last time we all sat down and ate together, or watched TV as a family. We often stay in different rooms until it’s time for bed. And the outings to the park or the cinema we used to plan and enjoy at weekends? I seriously can’t remember the last time we did that. I thought I was being Superwoman, and it turns out I’m struggling to tick all the boxes like any other mere mortal. The realisation renders me speechless, and it doesn’t take Tom long to
K.L. Slater (The Silent Ones)
Soon, droves of children start to show up, keeping us rather busy. We start tallying up the number of Trolls, Batmans, Lego men, and princesses we see. The most popular costume? Batman and Superwoman with the fabrics and accessories varying from child to child. But my favorite so far is the girl who dressed as Little Debbie, but then again, I may be biased. “I think she might be my new favorite,” Emma says as a little girl dressed as a nurse walks away. “That’s because you’re a nurse, but you can’t play favorites,” I say, reminding Emma of the rules. She levels with me. “This coming from the guy whose favorite child was dressed as Little Debbie.” “Come on.” I lean back in my chair and motion to my head. “She had the rim of blue on her hat. That’s attention to detail.” “And good fucking parenting,” Tucker chimes in, and we clink our beer bottles together. Amelia chuckles next to me as Emma shakes her head. “Ridiculous. What about you, Amelia? What costume has been your favorite so far?” “Hmm, it’s been a tough competition. There has been some real winning costumes and some absolute piss-poor ones.” She shakes her head. “Just because you put a scarf around your neck and call yourself Jack Frost doesn’t mean you dressed up.” “Ugh, that costume was dumb.” “It shouldn’t be referred to as a costume, but that’s beside the point.” I like how much Amelia is getting into this little pretend competition. She’s a far cry from the girl who first came home earlier. I love that having Tucker and Emma over has given me more time with Amelia, getting to know the woman she is today, but also managed to put that beautiful smile back on her face. “So who takes the cake for you?” I ask, nudging her leg with mine. Smiling up at me, she says, “Hands down it’s the little boy who dressed as Dwight Schrute from The Office. I think I giggled for five minutes straight after he left. That costume was spot on.” “Oh shit, you’re right,” I reply as Emma and Tucker agree with me. “He even had the watch calculator.” “And the small nose Dwight always complains about.” Emma chuckles. “Yeah, he has to be the winner.” “Now, now, now, let’s not get too hasty. Little Debbie is still in the running,” Tucker points out. Amelia leans forward, seeming incredibly comfortable, and says, “There is no way Little Debbie beats Dwight. Sorry, dude.” The shocked look on Tucker’s face is comical. He’s just been put in his place and the old Amelia has returned. I fucking love it.

Right when Marston and Peter must have been meeting with Gaines and Mayer to talk about what Wonder Woman ought to look like, a new superhero made his debut. Captain America.19 He quickly became Timely Comics’ most popular character. Captain America Comics #1 (March 1941) (illustration credit 23.7) Marston wanted his comic book’s “under-meaning,” about “a great movement now under way—the growth in the power of women,” to be embodied in the way Wonder Woman carried herself, how she dressed, and what powers she wielded. She had to be strong, and she had to be independent. Everyone agreed about the bracelets (inspired by Olive Byrne’s): it helped Gaines with his public relations problem that she could stop bullets with them; that was good for the gun problem. Also, this new superhero had to be uncommonly beautiful; she’d wear a tiara, like the crown awarded at the Miss America pageant. Marston wanted her to be opposed to war, but she had to be willing to fight for democracy. In fact, she had to be superpatriotic. Captain America wore an American flag: blue tights, red gloves, red boots, and, on his torso, red and white stripes and a white star. Like Captain America—because of Captain America—Wonder Woman would have to wear red, white, and blue, too. But, ideally, she’d also wear very little. To sell magazines, Gaines wanted his superwoman to be as naked as he could get away with.
Jill Lepore (The Secret History of Wonder Woman)
She Is Remarkable Salute to the woman who knows who she is And why she is who she is A powerful being Once thrown into the deep end of the ocean But swam her way back to shore She never stops moving forward Nothing can ever pull her backwards Such a brave warrior Shout out to the superwoman Determined to change the status quo Because she feels the need to do so Just like an eagle She soars higher and higher As the wind blows stronger She does not let anything deter her From reaching another level in life Thumbs up to an amazing woman A great force to be reckoned with That committed Mother on the street Who trades from sunrise to sunset Trying to make ends meet Oh, she has a heart so big Being mindful that come snow or sunshine She has mouths to feed I revere this gifted woman Who uses her creativity To make an impact in society Despite the uniqueness of her talent She remains a trendsetter It could be the potter in whose hands clay becomes magic The miner who touches gold, before it even gets sold to the markets Or the strategist who sits in high-level meetings, making sure organisations do not collapse A special mention to the special woman Who chooses not to give up She understands that others look up to her The smart lady out there, with a clear vision She makes things happen for her family, community, and the world at large She deserves a badge of honour Because she is remarkable!

The major reframe for the Superwoman/Man/Student is that competence is not a function of how many things you can do.

Today, my rule is not to say anything to myself—even silently—that I wouldn’t say to a friend.
Laura Doyle (Things Will Get as Good as You Can Stand: (. . . When you learn that it is better to receive than to give) The Superwoman's Practical Guide to Getting as Much as She Gives)
The art of being yourself at your best is the art of unfolding your personality into the person you want to be. Be gentle with yourself, learn to love yourself, to forgive yourself, for only as we have the right attitude toward ourselves can we have the right attitude towards others. —WILFRED PETERSON

Our steps, they were fast but unsure We knew not where they'd end Now I'm doing poetry readings And you, you're doing time
Juanita Carter (Superwoman Don't Live Here Anymore)
So, while I knew what burnout was, I never thought it would happen to me. Even-keeled and rarely stressed out, I perhaps thought I was superwoman and nothing could break me. Burnout carries a stigma as a sign of weakness and since I am not weak, I think my young helper mind couldn't reconcile how burnout could come knocking at my door.

Dear Woman....As You Face Resistance...And Need Perseverance...Turn To The Lord For Strength...All You Need Is In Him!
Jaachynma N.E. Agu (Woman: You've Got ALL IT TAKES!)
A man does only a man’s work. A female artist must be a superwoman, someone of two selves. One performs the work she is called by God to do while the other fulfills the womanly obligations our culture sets upon her.
Suanne Schafer
Today, we do not speak or write much about the face of motherhood that has been left in the shadows. Instead, we thrive on two dominant teachings: the traditional view that says motherhood is our most sacred and significant obligation and we should give up everything else for this duty; and the “modern” women’s magazine view that portrays the quintessential “superwoman” who has a career, husband and children and is able to satisfy everyone’s needs at home and at work. As different as these two views seem to be, they have one thing in common: They both focus solely on what they want to see, disregarding the complexity and intensity of motherhood, and the way in which it transforms a woman and her crystal heart.
Elif Shafak (Black Milk: On Writing, Motherhood, and the Harem Within)
In the meantime, I hope you shed the guilt of not being able to get everything done all the time. I hope you are gentle on yourself when you drop a ball. I hope you give yourself grace when you cannot handle everything facing you. Fire yourself from the expectation that you should be Superwoman or Thor.
Luvvie Ajayi Jones (Professional Troublemaker: The Fear-Fighter Manual)
I struggle with calling my mother a superhero, not because she isn't one, but after all that she's lived through, she deserves to be able to rest. Black women are often saddled with the "strong Black woman" trope, and it can undermine their humanity. We have tasked Black women with the pressure to play this part of the superwoman, a protective measure in order to cope with the constant stressors of racial discrimination. Yes, they are resilient. Yes, they seem to come to the aid of the whole world. But Black women cry. They feel. They grieve. They hurt. They deserve their own healing. My mother deserves her healing.
Yusef Salaam (Better, Not Bitter: Living on Purpose in the Pursuit of Racial Justice)
I’m learning that I don’t have to prove myself. And despite my superwoman complex, which got me into all kinds of situations, I’m not able to do all things.
Glynnis Whitwer (Taming the To-Do List)
And you might, Carol. Ultimately, you’re the only person who would know for sure, but it sounds like you might have developed a hyperactive need-to-be-seen-as box. Maybe you have a box about needing to be seen as helpful, for example, or thoughtful or kind or as a kind of superwoman. Any need-to-be-seen-as boxes like those would likely multiply in your mind the list of obligations you think you have to meet and would likely rob you of peace when you aren’t able to meet them.” Carol slumped slightly in her chair.
Arbinger Institute (The Anatomy of Peace: Resolving the Heart of Conflict)
Wonder Woman' was conceived by Dr. Marston to set up a standard among children and young people of strong, free, courageous womanhood; and to combat the idea that women are inferior to men, and to inspire girls to self-confidence and achievement in athletics, occupations, and professions monopolized by men." She wasn't meant to be a superwoman; she was meant to be an everywoman.
Jill Lepore
...but he was big and, superwoman or not, Anna knew when all else was equal, big won. Young won. The point was to make sure all else was as unequal as possible.
Nevada Barr (Borderline (Anna Pigeon, #15))
We are all products of our environment ..... Forged individually by the furnace of our life. We are therefore totally responsible for the choices that we make and the road we choose to take. For though having the same constituents when pressure is applied ....... it is the environmental conditions that determines if it is coal or diamond that emerges ........... In the month of my birth I want to take time out to the parents who apply the right amount of pressure on your children ..... starting with the superwoman who raised me.......

As the crowd jeered and laughed, the leader of the attackers vowed meekly, “We will never touch girls again. Honest, we won’t.” Then the three men edged away from the smirking crowd. As my pulse rate returned to normal, I discovered I was as amazed as everyone else. Taking a deep breath, I thanked God for His help and miraculous assistance. Those who had seen the encounter continued to call out their approval and good wishes. “Well done, Superwoman!” “You should be a coach. You should be training all the young women and girls. Make the streets safe!” Eventually I would earn my black belt, become a coach and share the Gospel the same way that I was saved.
Samaa Habib (Face to Face with Jesus: A Former Muslim's Extraordinary Journey to Heaven and Encounter with the God of Love)
That’s one of my major themes in Firefly Lane—that we need to accept that we are good enough, that all we can do is our best. The whole supermom/superwoman thing is an idea that needs to be retired. We’re just women, and while we are super, we don’t have superpowers.
Kristin Hannah (Firefly Lane (Firefly Lane #1))
In other words, what your desires are whispering to you may actually be the key to something bigger than a day at the beach.

… What do I want to do with the rest of my life? Or if that’s too much, what do I want to do next? ‘Here’s a blank sheet of paper, write your story, Cleo. Write your next chapter,’ I say out loud, still superwoman at the shore edge. ‘Make yourself some promises. Tell the wind your secrets and the ocean your dreams.
Josie Silver (One Night on the Island)
There Is A Superwoman Her name may not be popular Have never seen her face on a billboard But she is worth more! Instead of the vulnerable person (who has now disappeared), the illusion of the invulnerable person is created - the person who, by definition, cannot become a victim. No one - not women, drug abusers, people subjected to human trafficking, people living in poverty, illegal immigrants, or even children with no other option but to dig in the trash for food - can be called 'subjugated.' The ideal of the superman/superwoman becomes the natural condition of the human. For whatever this invulnerable person's fate - to be screwed by multiple men per day, take drugs and contract HIV/AIDs at ten years of age, have her body covered in bruises, lie passively and let herself be used, or turn other children into slaves - she is, by definition, an active subject who exercises opposition and control. The only possible violence that can be exerted against her is by calling her a victim. It is worse than any other physical or psychological violation to speak of her as subjugated - only then does she become a victim. A consequence of this belief system is the conviction that if there are no victims, there can be no perpetrators. The unmentionables, the men, are completely exonerated in a highly convenient, imperceptible way.
Kajsa Ekis Ekman (Being and Being Bought: Prostitution, Surrogacy and the Split Self)
You Are So Wonderful You lay bare your brain for others to learn Great lessons you always share From you, there is so much to hear Your head is crowned with wisdom You show the world how things are done I call your name with pride My love for you I cannot hide You have a heart that is never weak It does not break, it only bends When you land into hardships You find a way to rise You manage to put on a smile Stand back up and walk another mile Despite any pain life I am yet to meet someone of your calibre With so much courage to endure And the patent instincts of a survivor Oh, woman of valour! You need no stamp of approval from anyone Because victory is your birth right Superwoman, you are so wonderful

Jason put a hand on each shoulder and shook me gently. "Damn it, Anita, get a grip. It isn't like you to wallow in the horror. You're a good soldier. You kill and keep going like you're supposed to." I pushed him away from me. "I tortured a man, Jason. I reduced him to something that writhed on the floor, mewling with terror and pain. And I wanted to do it. I wanted him to hurt because of what they'd done to Charlotte and Daniel. I wanted to do it." I shook my head. "I'll do my bit tonight, but forgive me if it's a little harder to keep going than normal. Forgive me if I'm not superwoman, after all." "Not superwoman?" he exclaimed, putting a hand on his chest in mock surprise. "You've lied to me all these years!" It made me smile, and I didn't want to smile. "Stop it." "Stop what? Cheering you up? Or is life supposed to stop because you did something horrible? I'll tell you the real horrible truth, Anita. No matter what you do or how bad you feel about it, life just goes on. Life doesn't give a fuck that you're sorry or upset or deranged or tormented. Life just goes on, and you gotta go on with it, or sit in the middle of the road and feel sorry for yourself. And I don't see you doing that." "I am not feeling sorry for myself." "You aren't all broken up about Thompson. You're broken up because of what you did to Thompson and how it makes you feel. You don't give a rat's ass about him. You're just weeping and gnashing your teeth about how much of a monster you are. Well, I get enough of that from Richard. I don't need it from you. So get your act together. We've got people we care about to save.

The world can be a challenging place for us women to navigate. We often find ourselves feeling burned out, incapable, and lonely. And yet we‘re still so resilient. I’d carried that idea around for a couple of weeks when the words flowed out of me while we were in the studio one afternoon. ...Hotter than a fantasy, lonely like a highway She's living in a world and it's on fire Filled with catastrophe But she knows she can fly away She got both feet on the ground And she's burning it down... The lyrics perfectly captured what I’d been feeling — the idea that women, even in our vulnerability, continue trudging forward. We still make our moves, we still rise to the moment. Like the words of Superwoman the message was as much a celebration of others as it was a reminder to me.
