I don’t want to be little again. But at the same time I do. I want to be me like I was then, and me as I am now, and me like I’ll be in the future. I want to be me and nothing but me. I want to be crazy as the moon, wild as the wind and still as the earth. I want to be every single thing it’s possible to be. I’m growing and I don’t know how to grow. I’m living but I haven’t started living yet. Sometimes I simply disappear from myself. Sometimes it’s like I’m not here in the world at all and I simply don’t exist. Sometimes I can hardly think. My head just drifts, and the visions that come seem so vivid.

Just tell me how to be different in a way that makes sense. To make this all go away. And disappear. I know that's wrong, because it's my responsibilty, and I know things have to get worse before they get better. I walk around the school hallways and look at the people. I look at the teachers and wonder why their here. If they like their jobs. Or us. I wonder how smart they were when they were fifteen. Not in a mean way. In a curious way. It's like looking at all the students and wondering who's had their heart broken that day. And how they cope with having three quizes and a book report. On top of that. Or wondering who did the heart breaking. And wondering why. Especially since I know that if they went to another school, the person who had their heart broken would have had their heart broken by somebody else, so why does it have to be personal? It's much easier to not know things sometimes. Things change and friends leave. And life doesn't stop for anybody. I wanted to laugh. Or maybe get mad. Or maybe shrug at how strange everybody was, especiall me. I think the idea is that every person has to live for his or her own life and than make the choice to share it with other people. You can't just sit their and put everybody's lives ahead of yours and think that counts as love. You just can't. You have to do things. I'm going to do what I want to do. I'm going to be who I really am. And I'm going to figure out what that is. And we could all sit around and wonder and feel bad about each other and blame a lot of people for what they did or didn't do or what they didn't know. I don't know. I guess there could always be someone to blame. It's just different. Maybe it's good to put things in perspective, but sometimes, I think that the only perspective is to really be there. Because it's okay to feel things. I was really there. And that was enough to make me feel infinite. I feel infinite.

Walter Issacson biographer of Steve Jobs:
I remember sitting in his backyard in his garden, one day, and he started talking about God. He [Jobs] said, “ Sometimes I believe in God, sometimes I don’t. I think it’s 50/50, maybe. But ever since I’ve had cancer, I’ve been thinking about it more, and I find myself believing a bit more, maybe it’s because I want to believe in an afterlife, that when you die, it doesn’t just all disappear. The wisdom you’ve accumulated, somehow it lives on.”
Then he paused for a second and said, “Yea, but sometimes, I think it’s just like an On-Off switch. Click. And you’re gone.” And then he paused again and said, “ And that’s why I don’t like putting On-Off switches on Apple devices.”

Liam cleared his throat again and turned to fully face me. “So, it’s the summer and you’re in Salem, suffering through another boring, hot July, and working part-time at an ice cream parlor. Naturally, you’re completely oblivious to the fact that all of the boys from your high school who visit daily are more interested in you than the thirty-one flavors. You’re focused on school and all your dozens of clubs, because you want to go to a good college and save the world. And just when you think you’re going to die if you have to take another practice SAT, your dad asks if you want to go visit your grandmother in Virginia Beach.”
“Yeah?” I leaned my forehead against his chest. “What about you?”
“Me?” Liam said, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. “I’m in Wilmington, suffering through another boring, hot summer, working one last time in Harry’s repair shop before going off to some fancy university—where, I might add, my roommate will be a stuck-up-know-it-all-with-a-heart-of-gold named Charles Carrington Meriwether IV—but he’s not part of this story, not yet.” His fingers curled around my hip, and I could feel him trembling, even as his voice was steady. “To celebrate, Mom decides to take us up to Virginia Beach for a week. We’re only there for a day when I start catching glimpses of this girl with dark hair walking around town, her nose stuck in a book, earbuds in and blasting music. But no matter how hard I try, I never get to talk to her.
“Then, as our friend Fate would have it, on our very last day at the beach I spot her. You. I’m in the middle of playing a volleyball game with Harry, but it feels like everyone else disappears. You’re walking toward me, big sunglasses on, wearing this light green dress, and I somehow know that it matches your eyes. And then, because, let’s face it, I’m basically an Olympic god when it comes to sports, I manage to volley the ball right into your face.”
“Ouch,” I said with a light laugh. “Sounds painful.”
“Well, you can probably guess how I’d react to that situation. I offer to carry you to the lifeguard station, but you look like you want to murder me at just the suggestion. Eventually, thanks to my sparkling charm and wit—and because I’m so pathetic you take pity on me—you let me buy you ice cream. And then you start telling me how you work in an ice cream shop in Salem, and how frustrated you feel that you still have two years before college. And somehow, somehow, I get your e-mail or screen name or maybe, if I’m really lucky, your phone number. Then we talk. I go to college and you go back to Salem, but we talk all the time, about everything, and sometimes we do that stupid thing where we run out of things to say and just stop talking and listen to one another breathing until one of us falls asleep—”
“—and Chubs makes fun of you for it,” I added.
“Oh, ruthlessly,” he agreed. “And your dad hates me because he thinks I’m corrupting his beautiful, sweet daughter, but still lets me visit from time to time. That’s when you tell me about tutoring a girl named Suzume, who lives a few cities away—”
“—but who’s the coolest little girl on the planet,” I manage to squeeze out.

Sometimes I think if I blink, you'll disappear."
Oh, Eileithyia, Thea thought. Oh, Aphrodite. I'm in terrible trouble.
The thing was, it was terrible and wonderful. She felt awkward and tremendously safe at once, scared to death and not scared of anything. And what she wanted was so simple. If he only felt the same, everything would be all right.
I just can't even imagine life without you anymore, but I'm so afraid you'll go away," Eric said, still looking fatalistically at the computer on the desk.

I have been a little embarrassed always. But less so the last time. It will all disappear. You have such a delicious sense of humor--I adore that in you. I want always to see you laughing. It belongs to you. I have been thinking of places we ought to go together--little obscure places, here and there, in Paris. Just to say--here I went with Anais--here we ate or danced or got drunk together. Ah, to see you really drunk sometime, that would be a treat! I am almost afraid to suggest it--but Anais, when I think of how you press against me, how eagerly you open your legs and how wet you are, God, it drives me mad to think what you would be like when everything falls away.

Always choose to be smart
There are two types of people in the world,
the seekers of riches and the wise thinkers,
those who believe that the important thing is money,
and those who know that knowledge is the true treasure.
I, for my part, choose the second option,
Though I could have everything I want
I prefer to be an intelligent person,
and never live in a game of vain appearances.
Knowledge can take you far
far beyond what you imagine,
It can open doors and opportunities for you.
and make you see the world with different eyes.
But in this eagerness to be "wise",
There is a task that is a great challenge.
It is facing the fear of the unknown,
and see the horrors around every corner.
It's easy to be brave when you're sure,
away from dangers and imminent risks,
but when death threatens you close,
"wisdom" is not enough to protect you.
Because, even if you are smart and cunning,
death sometimes comes without mercy,
lurking in the darkest shadows,
and there is no way to escape.
That is why the Greek philosophers,
They told us about the moment I died,
an idea we should still take,
to understand that death is a reality.
Wealth can't save you
of the inevitable arrival of the end,
and just as a hoarder loses his treasures,
we also lose what we have gained.
So, if we have to choose between two things,
that is between being cunning or rich,
Always choose the second option
because while the money disappears,
wisdom helps us face dangers.
Do not fear death, my friend,
but embrace your intelligence,
learn all you can in this life,
and maybe you can beat time and death
for that simple reason always choose to be smart.
Maybe death is inevitable
But that doesn't mean you should be afraid
because intelligence and knowledge
They will help you face any situation and know what to do.
No matter what fate has in store,
wisdom will always be your best ally,
to live a life full of satisfaction,
and bravely face any situation.
So don't settle for what you have
and always look for ways to learn more,
because in the end, true wealth
It is not in material goods, but in knowledge.
Always choose to be smart,
Well, that will be the best investment.
that will lead you on the right path,
and it will make you a better version of yourself.

As people, other people, living in a house who . . . borrow things?"
Mrs. May laid down her work. "What do you think?" she asked.
"I don't know," Kate said, pulling hard at her shoe button. "There can't be. And yet"-she raised her head-"and yet sometimes I think there must be."
"Why do you think there must be?" asked Mrs. May.
"Because of all the things that disappear. Safety pins, for instance. Factories go on making safety pins, and every day people go on buying safety pins and yet, somehow, there never is a safety pin just when you want one. Where are they all? Now, at this minute? Where do they go to? Take needles," she went on. "All the needles my mother ever bought-there must be hundreds-can't just be lying about this house."
"Not lying about the house, no," agreed Mrs. May.
"And all the other things we keep on buying. Again and again and again. Like pencils and match boxes and sealing-wax and hairpins and drawing pins and thimbles-

Sometimes it all becomes too much. Your body and mind will just give way. Part of you may want to blissfully fade into nothing, but you never do. After a while all the memories and emotions make you shut down but never fully disappear—it’s safer for you this way, to be excluded. It’s a time to be alone, to heal, and to find yourself. It doesn’t mean you’ve given up or stopped trying; it just means you know what’s best for you.
Breathing is medicine. I forgot how to breathe, but I’m learning all over again.

I read, I daydreamed, I wandered the city so ardently in part because it was a means of wandering in my thoughts, and my thoughts were runaways, constantly taking me away in the midst of the conversation, the meal, the class, the work, the play, the dance, the party. They were a place I wanted to be, thinking, musing, analyzing, imagining, hoping, tracing connections, integrating new ideas, but they grabbed me and ran with me from the situations at hand over and over. I disappeared in the middle of conversations, sometimes because I was bored but just as often because someone said something so interesting that my mind chased after the idea they offered and lost track of the rest of what they said. I lived in a long reverie for years, went days without much interruption to it, which was one of the gifts of solitude.

He wanted you to be the small, quiet girl from Abnegation," Four says softly. "He hurt you because your strength made him feel weak. No other reason."
I nod and try to believe him.
"The others won't be as jealous if you show some vulnerability. Even if it isn't real."
"You think I have to pretend to be vulnerable?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes,I do." He takes the ice pack from me, his fingers brushing mine, and holds it against my head himself. I put my hand down, too eager to relax my arm to object. Four stands up. I stare at the hem of his T-shirt.
Sometimes I see him as just another person, and sometimes I feel the sight of him in my gut, like a deep ache.
"You're going to want to march into breakfast tomorrow and show your attackers they had no effect on you," he adds, "but you should let that bruise on your cheek show, and keep your head down."
The idea nauseates me.
"I don't think I can do that," I say hollowly. I lift my eyes to his.
"You have to."
"I don't think you get it." Heat rises into my face. "They touched me."
His entire body tightens at my words, his hand clenching around the ice pack. "Touched you," he repeates, his dark eyes cold.
"Not...in the way you're thinking." I clear my throat. I didn't realize when I said it how awkward it would be to talk about. "But...almost."
I look away.
He is silent and still for so long that eventually,I have to say something.
"What is it?"
"I don't want to say this," he says, "but I feel like I have to.It is more important for you to be safe than right, for the time being. Understand?"
His straight eyebrows are drawn low over his eyes. My stomach writhes, partly because I know he makes a good point but I don't want to admit it, and partly because I want something I don't know how to express; I want to press against te space between us until it disappears.
I nod.
"But please, when you see an opportunity..." He pesses his hand to my cheek, cold and strong, and tilts my head up so I have to look at him. His eyes glint. They look almost predatory. "Ruin them."
I laugh shakily. "You're a little scary, Four."
"Do me a favor," he says, "and don't call me that."
"What should I call you,then?"
"Nothing." He takes his hand from my face. "Yet.

“
God likes to play hide-and-seek, but because there is nothing outside of God, he has no one but himself to play with! But he gets over this difficulty by pretending that he is not himself. This is his way of hiding from himself. He pretends that he is you and I and all the people in the world, all the animals, plants, all the rocks, and all the stars. In this way he has strange and wonderful adventures, some of which are terrible and frightening. But these are just like bad dreams, for when he wakes up they will disappear.
Now when God plays "hide" and pretends that he is you and I, he does it so well that it takes him a long time to remember where and how he hid himself! But that's the whole fun of it-just what he wanted to do. He doesn't want to find himself too quickly, for that would spoil the game. That is why it is so difficult for you and me to find out that we are God in disguise, pretending not to be himself. But- when the game has gone on long enough, all of us will WAKE UP, stop pretending, and REMEMBER that we are all one single Self- the God who is all that there is and who lives forever and ever.
You may ask why God sometimes hides in the form of horrible people, or pretends to be people who suffer great disease and pain. Remember, first, that he isn't really doing this to anyone but himself. Remember too, that in almost all the stories you enjoy there have to be bad people as well as good people, for the thrill of the tale is to find out how the good people will get the better of the bad. It's the same as when we play cards. At the beginning of the game we shuffle them all into a mess, which is like the bad things in the world, but the point of the game put the mess into good order, and the one who does it best is the winner. Then we shuffle the cards and play again, and so it goes with the world.

I went back in and grabbed my running clothes, then changed in the bathroom. I opened the door to the bathroom, stopping when I saw Kaidan's toiletry bag on the sink. I was overcome with curiosity about his cologne or aftershave, because I'd never smelled it on anyone else before. Feeling sneaky, I prodded one finger into the bag and peeked. No cologne bottle. Only a razor, shaving cream, toothbrush, toothpaste, and deodorant. I picked up the deodorant, pulled off the lid, and smelled it. Nope, that wasn't it.
The sound of Kaidan's deep chuckle close to the doorway made me scream and drop the deodorant into the sink with a clatter. I smacked one hand to my chest and grabbed the edge of the sink with the other. He laughed out loud now.
“Okay, that must have looked really bad.” I spoke to his reflection in the mirror, then fumbled to pick up the deodorant. I put the lid on and dropped it in his bag. “But I was just trying to figure out what cologne you wear.”
My face was on fire as Kaidan stepped into the small bathroom and leaned against the counter, crossing his arms over his chest. I stepped away. He seemed entertained by my predicament.
“I haven't been wearing any cologne.”
“Oh.” I cleared my throat. “Well, I didn't see any, so I thought it might be your deodorant, but that's not it either. Maybe it's your laundry detergent or something. Let's just forget about it.”
“What is it you smell, exactly?” His voice took on a husky quality, and it felt like he was taking up a lot of room. I couldn't bring myself to look at him. Something strange was going on here. I stepped back, hitting the tub with my heel as I tried to put the scent into words.
“I don't know. It's like citrus and the forest or something...leaves and tree sap. I can't explain it.”
His eyes bored into mine while he wore that trademark sexy smirk, arms still crossed.
“Citrus?” he asked. “Like lemons?”
“Oranges mostly. And a little lime, too.”
He nodded and flicked his head to the side to get hair out of his eyes. Then his smile disappeared and his badge throbbed.
“What you smell are my pheromones, Anna.”
A small, nervous laugh burst from my throat.
“Oh, okay, then. Well...” I eyed the small space that was available to pass through the door. I made an awkward move toward it, but he shifted his body and I stepped back again.
“People can't usually smell pheromones,” he told me. “You must be using your extra senses without realizing it. I've heard of Neph losing control of their senses with certain emotions. Fear, surprise...lust.”
I rubbed my hands up and down my upper arms, wanting nothing more than to veer this conversation out of the danger zone.
“Yeah, I do have a hard time reining in the scent sometimes,” I babbled. “It even gets away from me while I sleep now and then. I wake up thinking Patti's making cinnamon rolls and it ends up being from someone else's apartment. Then I'm just stuck with cereal. Anyway...”
“Would you like to know your own scent?” he asked me.
My heart swelled up big in my chest and squeezed small again. This whole scent thing was way too sensual to be discussed in this small space. Any second now my traitorous body would be emitting some of those pheromones and there'd be red in my aura.
“Uh, not really,” I said, keeping my eyes averted. “I think I should probably go.”
He made no attempt to move out of the doorway.
“You smell like pears with freesia undertones.”
“Wow, okay.” I cleared my throat, still refusing eye contact. I had to get out of there. “I think I'll just...” I pointed to the door and began to shuffle past him, doing my best not to brush up against him. He finally took a step back and put his hands up by his sides to show that he wouldn't touch me. I broke out of the confined bathroom and took a deep breath.

My little brother's greatest fear was that the one person who meant so much to him would go away. He loved Lindsey and Grandma Lynn and Samuel and Hal, but my father kept him stepping lightly, son gingerly monitoring father every morning and every evening as if, without such vigilance, he would lose him.
We stood- the dead child and the living- on either side of my father, both wanting the same thing. To have him to ourselves forver. To please us both was an impossibility.
...
'Please don't let Daddy die, Susie,' he whispered. 'I need him.'
When I left my brother, I walked out past the gazebo and under the lights hanging down like berries, and I saw the brick paths branching out as I advanced.
I walked until the bricks turned to flat stones and then to small, sharp rocks and then to nothing but churned earth for miles adn miles around me. I stood there. I had been in heaven long enough to know that something would be revealed. And as the light began to fade and the sky to turn a dark, sweet blue as it had on the night of my death, I saw something walking into view, so far away I could not at first make out if it was man or woman, child or adult. But as moonlight reached this figure I could make out a man and, frightened now, my breathing shallow, I raced just far enough to see. Was it my father? Was it what I had wanted all this time so deperately?
'Susie,' the man said as I approached and then stopped a few feet from where he stood. He raised his arms up toward me.
'Remember?' he said.
I found myself small again, age six and in a living room in Illinois. Now, as I had done then, I placed my feet on top of his feet.
'Granddaddy,' I said.
And because we were all alone and both in heaven, I was light enough to move as I had moved when I was six and in a living room in Illinois. Now, as I had done then, I placed my feet on top of his feet.
'Granddaddy,' I said.
And because we were all alone and both in heaven, I was light enough to move as I had moved when I was six and he was fifty-six and my father had taken us to visit. We danced so slowly to a song that on Earth had always made my grandfather cry.
'Do you remember?' he asked.
'Barber!'
'Adagio for Strings,' he said.
But as we danced and spun- none of the herky-jerky awkwardness of Earth- what I remembered was how I'd found him crying to this music and asked him why.
'Sometimes you cry,' Susie, even when someone you love has been gone a long time.' He had held me against him then, just briefly, and then I had run outside to play again with Lindsey in what seemed like my grandfather's huge backyard.
We didn't speak any more that night, but we danced for hours in that timeless blue light. I knew as we danced that something was happening on Earth and in heaven. A shifting. The sort of slow-to-sudden movement that we'd read about in science class one year. Seismic, impossible, a rending and tearing of time and space. I pressed myself into my grandfather's chest and smelled the old-man smell of him, the mothball version of my own father, the blood on Earth, the sky in heaven. The kumquat, skunk, grade-A tobacco.
When the music stopped, it cold have been forever since we'd begun. My grandfateher took a step back, and the light grew yellow at his back.
'I'm going,' he said.
'Where?' I asked.
'Don't worry, sweetheart. You're so close.'
He turned and walked away, disappearing rapidly into spots and dust. Infinity.

Justin: I am falling so in love with you.
Her body electrified. Celeste wiped her eyes and read his text again. The drone of the plane disappeared; the turbulence was no more. There was only Justin and his words.
Justin: I lose myself and find myself at the same time with you.
Justin: I need you, Celeste. I need you as part of my world, because for the first time, I am connected to someone in a way that has meaning. And truth. Maybe our distance has strengthened what I feel between us since we’re not grounded in habit or daily convenience. We have to fight for what we have.
Justin: I don’t know if I can equate what I feel for you with anything else. Except maybe one thing, if this makes any sense.
Justin: I go to this spot at Sunset Cliffs sometimes. It’s usually a place crowded with tourists, but certain times of year are quieter. I like it then. And there’s a high spot on the sandstone cliff, surrounded by this gorgeous ice plant, and it overlooks the most beautiful water view you’ve ever seen. I’m on top of the world there, it seems.
Justin: And everything fits, you know? Life feels right. As though I could take on anything, do anything. And sometimes, when I’m feeling overcome with gratitude for the view and for what I have, I jump so that I remember to continue to be courageous because not every piece of life will feel so in place.
Justin: It’s a twenty-foot drop, the water is only in the high fifties, and it’s a damn scary experience. But it’s a wonderful fear. One that I know I can get through and one that I want.
Justin: That’s what it’s like with you. I am scared because you are so beyond anything I could have imagined. I become so much more with you beside me. That’s terrifying, by the way. But I will be brave because my fear only comes from finally having something deeply powerful to lose. That’s my connection with you. It would be a massive loss.
Justin: And now I am in the car and about to see you, so don’t reply. I’m too flipping terrified to hear what you think of my rant. It’s hard not to pour my heart out once I start. If you think I’m out of mind, just wave your hands in horror when you spot the lovesick guy at the airport.
Ten minutes went by. He had said not to reply, so she hadn’t.
Justin: Let’s hope I don’t get pulled over for speeding… but I’m at a stoplight now.
Justin: God, I hope you aren’t… aren’t… something bad.
Celeste: Hey, Justin?
Justin: I TOLD YOU NOT TO REPLY!
Justin: I know, I know. But I’m happy you did because I lost it there for a minute.
Celeste: HEY, JUSTIN?
Justin: Sorry… Hey, Celeste?
Celeste: I am, unequivocally and wholly falling in love with you, too.
Justin: Now I’m definitely speeding. I will see you soon.

Every tree, therefore, is valuable to the community and worth keeping around for as long as possible. And that is why even sick individuals are supported and nourished until they recover. Next time, perhaps it will be the other way round, and the supporting tree might be the one in need of assistance. When thick silver-gray beeches behave like this, they remind me of a herd of elephants. Like the herd, they, too, look after their own, and they help their sick and weak back up onto their feet. They are even reluctant to abandon their dead.
Every tree is a member of this community, but there are different levels of membership. For example, most stumps rot away into humus and disappear within a couple of hundred years (which is not very long for a tree). Only a few individuals are kept alive over the centuries, like the mossy "stones" I've just described. What's the difference? Do tree societies have second-class citizens just like human societies? It seems they do, though the idea of "class" doesn't quite fit. It is rather the degree of connection-or maybe even affection-that decides how helpful a tree's colleagues will be.
You can check this out for yourself simply by looking up into the forest canopy. The average tree grows its branches out until it encounters the branch tips of a neighboring tree of the same height. It doesn't grow any wider because the air and better light in this space are already taken. However, it heavily reinforces the branches it has extended, so you get the impression that there's quite a shoving match going on up there. But a pair of true friends is careful right from the outset not to grow overly thick branches in each other's direction. The trees don't want to take anything away from each other, and so they develop sturdy branches only at the outer edges of their crowns, that is to say, only in the direction of "non-friends." Such partners are often so tightly connected at the roots that sometimes they even die together.

I'd like to disappear one day...I get the feeling sometimes that I can do that. It's like there's some place I really want to go to, and I'm not sure where, but I can still go. I think I'd really like that. I'd sit down one afternoon. I'd say, "Okay now, Susan, time to go." Clasp my hands or something. Then I'd do it. I'd just be gone then. No one would know. I wouldn't even know.

It’s normally agreed that the question “How are you?” doesn’t put you on your oath to give a full or honest answer. So when asked these days, I tend to say something cryptic like, “A bit early to say.” (If it’s the wonderful staff at my oncology clinic who inquire, I sometimes go so far as to respond, “I seem to have cancer today.”) Nobody wants to be told about the countless minor horrors and humiliations that become facts of “life” when your body turns from being a friend to being a foe: the boring switch from chronic constipation to its sudden dramatic opposite; the equally nasty double cross of feeling acute hunger while fearing even the scent of food; the absolute misery of gut–wringing nausea on an utterly empty stomach; or the pathetic discovery that hair loss extends to the disappearance of the follicles in your nostrils, and thus to the childish and irritating phenomenon of a permanently runny nose. Sorry, but you did ask... It’s no fun to appreciate to the full the truth of the materialist proposition that I don’t have a body, I am a body. But it’s not really possible to adopt a stance of “Don’t ask, don’t tell,” either. Like its original, this is a prescription for hypocrisy and double standards. Friends and relatives, obviously, don’t really have the option of not making kind inquiries. One way of trying to put them at their ease is to be as candid as possible and not to adopt any sort of euphemism or denial. The swiftest way of doing this is to note that the thing about Stage Four is that there is no such thing as Stage Five. Quite rightly, some take me up on it. I recently had to accept that I wasn’t going to be able to attend my niece’s wedding, in my old hometown and former university in Oxford. This depressed me for more than one reason, and an especially close friend inquired, “Is it that you’re afraid you’ll never see England again?” As it happens he was exactly right to ask, and it had been precisely that which had been bothering me, but I was unreasonably shocked by his bluntness. I’ll do the facing of hard facts, thanks. Don’t you be doing it too. And yet I had absolutely invited the question. Telling someone else, with deliberate realism, that once I’d had a few more scans and treatments I might be told by the doctors that things from now on could be mainly a matter of “management,” I again had the wind knocked out of me when she said, “Yes, I suppose a time comes when you have to consider letting go.” How true, and how crisp a summary of what I had just said myself. But again there was the unreasonable urge to have a kind of monopoly on, or a sort of veto over, what was actually sayable. Cancer victimhood contains a permanent temptation to be self–centered and even solipsistic.

Anything Bunny wrote was bound to be alarmingly original, since he began with such odd working materials and managed to alter them further by his befuddled scrutiny, but the John Donne paper must have been the worst of all the bad papers he ever wrote (ironic, given that it was the only thing he ever wrote that saw print. After he disappeared, a journalist asked for an excerpt from the missing young scholar's work and Marion gave him a copy of it, a laboriously edited paragraph of which eventually found its way into People magazine).
Somewhere, Bunny had heard that John Donne had been acquainted with Izaak Walton, and in some dim corridor of his mind this friendship grew larger and larger, until in his mind the two men were practically interchangeable. We never understood how this fatal connection had established itself: Henry blamed it on Men of Thought and Deed, but no one knew for sure. A week or two before the paper was due, he had started showing up in my room about two or three in the morning, looking as if he had just narrowly escaped some natural disaster, his tie askew and his eyes wild and rolling. 'Hello, hello,' he would say, stepping in, running both hands through his disordered hair. 'Hope I didn't wake you, don't mind if I cut on the lights, do you, ah, here we go, yes, yes…' He would turn on the lights and then pace back and forth for a while without taking off his coat, hands clasped behind his back, shaking his head. Finally he would stop dead in his tracks and say, with a desperate look in his eye: 'Metahemeralism.
Tell me about it. Everything you know. I gotta know something about metahemeralism.'
'I'm sorry. I don't know what that is.'
'I don't either,' Bunny would say brokenly. 'Got to do with art or pastoralism or something. That's how I gotta tie together John Donne and Izaak Walton, see.' He would resume pacing.
'Donne. Walton. Metahemeralism. That's the problem as I see it.'
'Bunny, I don't think "metahemeralism" is even a word.'
'Sure it is. Comes from the Latin. Has to do with irony and the pastoral. Yeah. That's it. Painting or sculpture or something, maybe.'
'Is it in the dictionary?'
'Dunno. Don't know how to spell it. I mean' – he made a picture frame with his hands – 'the poet and the fisherman. Parfait. Boon companions. Out in the open spaces. Living the good life. Metahemeralism's gotta be the glue here, see?'
And so it would go, for sometimes half an hour or more, with Bunny raving about fishing, and sonnets, and heaven knew what, until in the middle of his monologue he would be struck by a brilliant thought and bluster off as suddenly as he had descended.
He finished the paper four days before the deadline and ran around showing it to everyone before he turned it in.
'This is a nice paper, Bun -,' Charles said cautiously.
'Thanks, thanks.'
'But don't you think you ought to mention John Donne more often? Wasn't that your assignment?'
'Oh, Donne,' Bunny had said scoffingly. 'I don't want to drag him into this.'
Henry refused to read it. 'I'm sure it's over my head, Bunny, really,' he said, glancing over the first page. 'Say, what's wrong with this type?'
'Triple-spaced it,' said Bunny proudly.
'These lines are about an inch apart.'
'Looks kind of like free verse, doesn't it?'
Henry made a funny little snorting noise through his nose.
'Looks kind of like a menu,' he said.
All I remember about the paper was that it ended with the sentence 'And as we leave Donne and Walton on the shores of Metahemeralism, we wave a fond farewell to those famous chums of yore.' We wondered if he would fail.

Want,’ she told her, in a measured tone, ‘is an interesting word. It means lack. Sometimes if we fill that lack with something else the original want disappears entirely. Maybe you have a lack problem rather than a want problem. Maybe there is a life that you really want to live.’ ‘I thought that was it. The one with Dan. But it wasn’t.’ ‘No, it wasn’t. But that is just one of your possible lives. And one into infinity is a very small fraction indeed.

... I believe strongly in condoms. They avert babies and disease. They make you seem responsible, not slutty. They make the girl relax too, because you’re taking care of the risky part. Like you’re a professional. Roll it on, squeeze the tip, turn back to her, ready, set go. Like I’d just done a little disappearing act on myself and became something confident and wonderful. You can’t see through my latex disguise! You will love this so let’s get down! You don’t want to know how many times this worked in my favor.
God I feel like a fucking asshole sometimes. All the time, really.

He cleared his throat. “So tell me,” he asked, “what do they call you when they want to call you something other than Tania or Tatiana?” Her heart jumped. “Who’s they?” Alexander said nothing for what seemed like minutes. Tatiana backed away from him, and when she was five meters away, she looked at his face. All she wanted to do was look into his wonderful face. “Sometimes,” she said, “they call me Tatia.” He smiled. The silences tormented her. What to do during them? “You are very beautiful, Tatia,” said Alexander. “Stop,” she said—inaudibly—as sensation left her legs. He called after her, “If you wanted to, you could call me Shura.” Shura! That’s a marvelous endearment. I would love to call you Shura, she wanted to tell him. “Who calls you Shura?” “Nobody,” Alexander replied with a salute. Tatiana didn’t just walk home. She flew. She grew brilliant red wings, and on them she sailed through the azure Leningrad sky. Closer to home, her heavy-with-guilt heart brought her down and the wings disappeared. She tied up her hair and made sure his books were at the very bottom of her bag. But she couldn’t go upstairs for a number of minutes as she stood against the wall of the building, clenching both fists to her chest.

Mom?” Then again, louder. “Mom?”
She turned around so quickly, she knocked the pan off the stove and nearly dropped the gray paper into the open flame there. I saw her reach back and slap her hand against the knobs, twisting a dial until the smell of gas disappeared.
“I don’t feel good. Can I stay home today?”
No response, not even a blink. Her jaw was working, grinding, but it took me walking over to the table and sitting down for her to find her voice. “How—how did you get in here?”
“I have a bad headache and my stomach hurts,” I told her, putting my elbows up on the table. I knew she hated when I whined, but I didn’t think she hated it enough to come over and grab me by the arm again.
“I asked you how you got in here, young lady. What’s your name?” Her voice sounded strange. “Where do you live?”
Her grip on my skin only tightened the longer I waited to answer. It had to have been a joke, right? Was she sick, too? Sometimes cold medicine did funny things to her.
Funny things, though. Not scary things.
“Can you tell me your name?” she repeated.
“Ouch!” I yelped, trying to pull my arm away. “Mom, what’s wrong?”
She yanked me up from the table, forcing me onto my feet. “Where are your parents? How did you get in this house?”
Something tightened in my chest to the point of snapping.
“Mom, Mommy, why—”
“Stop it,” she hissed, “stop calling me that!”
“What are you—?” I think I must have tried to say something else, but she dragged me over to the door that led out into the garage. My feet slid against the wood, skin burning. “Wh-what’s wrong with you?” I cried. I tried twisting out of her grasp, but she wouldn’t even look at me. Not until we were at the door to the garage and she pushed my back up against it.
“We can do this the easy way or the hard way. I know you’re confused, but I promise that I’m not your mother. I don’t know how you got into this house, and, frankly, I’m not sure I want to know—”
“I live here!” I told her. “I live here! I’m Ruby!”
When she looked at me again, I saw none of the things that made Mom my mother. The lines that formed around her eyes when she smiled were smoothed out, and her jaw was clenched around whatever she wanted to say next. When she looked at me, she didn’t see me. I wasn’t invisible, but I wasn’t Ruby.
“Mom.” I started to cry. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be bad. I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry! Please, I promise I’ll be good—I’ll go to school today and won’t be sick, and I’ll pick up my room. I’m sorry. Please remember. Please!”
She put one hand on my shoulder and the other on the door handle. “My husband is a police officer. He’ll be able to help you get home. Wait in here—and don’t touch anything.”
The door opened and I was pushed into a wall of freezing January air. I stumbled down onto the dirty, oil-stained concrete, just managing to catch myself before I slammed into the side of her car. I heard the door shut behind me, and the lock click into place; heard her call Dad’s name as clearly as I heard the birds in the bushes outside the dark garage.
She hadn’t even turned on the light for me.
I pushed myself up onto my hands and knees, ignoring the bite of the frosty air on my bare skin. I launched myself in the direction of the door, fumbling around until I found it. I tried shaking the handle, jiggling it, still thinking, hoping, praying that this was some big birthday surprise, and that by the time I got back inside, there would be a plate of pancakes at the table and Dad would bring in the presents, and we could—we could—we could pretend like the night before had never happened, even with the evidence in the next room over.
The door was locked.
“I’m sorry!” I was screaming. Pounding my fists against it. “Mommy, I’m sorry! Please!”
Dad appeared a moment later, his stocky shape outlined by the light from inside of the house. I saw Mom’s bright-red face over his shoulder; he turned to wave her off and then reached over to flip on the overhead lights.

The overall data shows that more than twice the money flows into venture capital from LPs than comes back to them in a given year.
I wanted to hold onto something positive from this industry—after all, I’ve met a few brilliant people in it—but looking at the data, it’s hard, if not impossible.
In a Freudian sense, it's worth remembering that sometimes a cigar is just a cigar—not everything has a deeper psychological meaning.
VCs have made it look like magic, but the illusion disappears once you turn on the lights.
At its core, venture capital isn’t as much a unique asset class as it is a troubled one. The industry survives by injecting more and more capital each year, while leaving the majority of limited partners stuck at the losing end of a pay-your-bid auction.

Depression, that is,” I continue. “People who’ve never experienced it think it’s a mask, but it’s not. It’s a curtain. And when it falls, it shuts you off from your life, plunging you into complete darkness. There you stand, arms flailing around you, reaching for anything to find your way back. But after exhausting yourself, grasping at only more darkness, you give up and drop to the floor in resignation. “And so you sit. You and the blackness. You and the accusations. You and the self-hatred, the lies that become truth, the failure and pain and hopelessness and black thoughts that twist through you, impaling you to the floor. There you bleed, alone in your black hole, convinced the audience on the other side of the curtain has given up and gone home. The show is over. “Before you know it, you realize the curtain has turned into a cement wall, and you couldn’t escape the darkness even if you wanted to, but by now you don’t care anymore. What’s the point? There’s nothing waiting for you on the other side, and even if there was, you’re such a useless waste of space that you wouldn’t dare to contaminate the world outside with your cancer anyway.” I stop, my eyes burning, my voice heavy in my throat. “You feel like crying all the time but you rarely do. Depression isn’t sadness; it’s numbness. You don’t have the energy for sadness. You can’t sleep. You don’t eat. You have no desire for the things you used to love, but it doesn’t matter because you can’t love anyway. You feel nothing, just a dull, heavy ache that makes it hard to breathe sometimes, let alone get up to start the search again. You fantasize about disappearing, just erasing your pointless existence and sparing the Earth from your toxic presence. By now you’re so exhausted just from the effort of living that there’s nothing left to live it.” I

Move when it’s time We were touring the ruins at Hovenweep National Monument in the southwestern United States. A sign along the interpretive trail told about the Anasazi who had lived along the small, narrow canyon so long ago. The archaeologists have done their best to determine what these ancient Indians did and how they lived their lives. The signs told about the strategic positioning of the buildings perched precariously on the edge of a cliff, and questioned what had caused this ancient group to suddenly disappear long ago. “Maybe they just got tired of living there and moved,” my friend said. We laughed as we pictured a group of wise ancients sitting around the campfire one night. “You know,” says one of them, “I’m tired of this desert. Let’s move to the beach.” And in our story they did. No mystery. No aliens taking them away. They just moved on, much like we do today. It’s easy to romanticize what we don’t know. It’s easy to assume that someone else must have a greater vision, a nobler purpose than just going to work, having a family, and living a life. People are people, and have been throughout time. Our problems aren’t new or unique. The secret to happiness is the same as it has always been. If you are unhappy with where you are, don’t be there. Yes, you may be here now, you may be learning hard lessons today, but there is no reason to stay there. If it hurts to touch the stove, don’t touch it. If you want to be someplace else, move. If you want to chase a dream, then do it. Learn your lessons where you are, but don’t close off your ability to move and to learn new lessons someplace else. Are you happy with the path that you’re on? If not, maybe it’s time to choose a new one. There need not be a great mysterious reason. Sometimes it’s just hot and dry, and the beach is calling your name. Be where you want to be. God, give me the courage to find a path with heart. Help me move on when it’s time.

There is a window over my tub and when I was younger, I'd lie down in the tub instead of my bed. My mother would wake me and make me move back to my bed but finally she gave up and let me sleep there. I liked it in the tub because from the window I could see stars and the ocean and sometimes, if it was calm, I could see the stars in the ocean. I liked the tub because if I slept with my ear against the drainpipe I could hear my parents' conversations all night long, metallic talking that made its way up through the plumbing.
Through the pipe, one night just before my father disappeared, I heard him tell my mother, 'I remember how the moon shines into the ocean and the pattern it makes on the sea floor.' She didn't say anything. 'I want to go back there,' he said, and the reason I remember that conversation is because my mother started crying when he said that and I had never heard her cry before.
He meant we were from the ocean. 'You're a mermaid,' he told me at the breakfast table. 'Don't forget it.' A corner of toast scraped the roof of my mouth when he said it. The cut it made helped me to remember. So I don't think he's dead. I think he is in the sea swimming and that is kinder than imagining his boots filling up with water, and then his lungs.

I did not turn up at Saint-Loup’s restaurant in the same frame of mind every evening. If a memory or a particular sadness we feel is capable of disappearing, to the point where we no longer notice it, it can also return and sometimes remain there for a long time. There were evenings when, as I crossed the town on my way to the restaurant, I felt so great a pang of longing for Mme de Guermantes that it took my breath away: it was as if part of my breast had been cut out by a skilled anatomist and replaced by an equal part of immaterial suffering, by an equivalent degree of nostalgia and love. And, however neat the surgeon’s stitches are, life is rather painful when longing for another person is substituted for the intestines; it seems to occupy more space than they do; it is a constantly felt presence; and then how utterly unsettling it is to be obliged to think with part of the body! Yet it does somehow make us feel more authentic. The whisper of a breeze makes us sigh with oppression, but also with languor. I would look up at the sky. If it was cloudless, I would think: “Perhaps she has gone to the country; she’s looking at the same stars, and perhaps when I arrive at the restaurant Robert will say to me: ‘Good news. I’ve just heard from my aunt. She wants to see you. She’s coming down here.’ ” My

I’m not interested in one night. I want it all. If that’s too much for you, tell me right now. If it’s going to scare you off, I want to know.” “All?” “I want to go to bed with you, and wake up with you.” He kissed her. “Then I want to do that again.” He kissed her. “And again. And again.” “Okay,” she said breathlessly. “I’m an idiot, but I’m in love with you.” “How do you know?” “Because I’ve never felt this bad before.” “Isn’t it supposed to feel good?” “It does, when you’re in my arms. When you’re not, it’s just awful.” “Okay,” she said. “I understand.” “You’re going to give it a chance?” “Yes,” she said, nodding. “I realize that sometimes things don’t work out the way we want them to. I’ve been down that road and so have you. But I’m not going to string you along. I’ll never lie to you. Do you believe me?” “I do. Do you believe me?” “You’re not going to run out on me again, without any explanation?” “I won’t do that again, no.” “You can do anything else, you know. You can tell me you were mistaken. He would have known or found out that the sewer-pipe running out of Cellblock 5 was the last one in Shawshank not hooked into the new waste-treatment plant, and he would have known it was do it by mid-1975 or do it never, because in August they were going to switch us over to the new waste-treatment plant, too. Five hundred yards. The length of five football fields. Just shy of half a mile. He crawled that distance, maybe with one of those small Penlites in his hand, maybe with nothing but a couple of books of matches. He crawled through foulness that I either can’t imagine or don’t want to imagine. Maybe the rats scattered in front of him, or maybe they went for him the way such animals sometimes will when they’ve had a chance to grow bold in the dark. He must have had just enough clearance at the shoulders to keep moving, and he probably had to shove himself through the places where the lengths of pipe were joined. If it had been me, the claustrophobia would have driven me mad a dozen times over. But he did it. At the far end of the pipe they found a set of muddy footprints leading out of the sluggish, polluted creek the pipe fed into. Two miles from there a search party found his prison uniform—that was a day later. The story broke big in the papers, as you might guess, but no one within a fifteen-mile radius of the prison stepped forward to report a stolen car, stolen clothes, or a naked man in the moonlight. There was not so much as a barking dog in a farmyard. He came out of the sewer-pipe and he disappeared like smoke. But I am betting he disappeared in the direction of Buxton.

Stephen King (Different Seasons: Four Novellas)
“
Sorrow walked in my clothes before I did. Flocks
of shadows followed me. One night I looked at the stars
I thought were gods until they disappeared. Some say
I smashed my father’s idols and walked away.
Or walked towards a desert of barren promises.
Or promises that are hummingbirds hovering for
a moment then drifting away. Even now, walking
towards that mountain, sometimes I will watch
my shadow sitting beneath a plane tree, casting dice,
ignoring my steps. Some of you made me a founder
but it was only that shadow. Some of you made me
your father, but it was yourselves you were describing.
You plant a tree, you dig a well, and it brings life,
that’s all. Everything else is the heart’s mirage.
Except what begins inside you. Except Sarah.
When she stepped inside my dream the curtains
shivered, whole mountains entered the room.
It always seemed a question of which love to honor.
The land I loved fills with fire. Who should we listen to?
It’s true, He offered the world and I offered only
myself. But I thought His words were coffins. I was
frantic for any scrap of shade. Now everything is
shade. Your old newspapers are taken up by the wind
like pairs of broken wings. Each window, each door is
a wound. One track erases another track. One bomb.
One rock, one rubber bullet. What can I tell you?
Where have you left your own morning of promises?
You remember Isaac, maybe Ishmael, but not the love
that led me there. Not Sarah. Just to hear the sound
of her eyelids opening, or her plants pushing the air
aside as they reach for the sun, twilight filling
her fingers like fruit. This afternoon a flock of doves
settled on my porch. Their silence took the shape
of all I ever wanted to say. Today, the miracle
you want aches inside the trees. Why believe
anything except what is unbelievable? I never
thought of it as a trial, not any of it. Now the leaves
turn into messages that are simply impossible to read.
The roots turn into roads as they break through
the surface. How can I even know what I mean?
Beneath the hem of night the rain falls asleep
on the grass. We have to turn into each other.
One heart inside the other’s heart. One love. One word.
Inside us, our shadows will walk into water,
the water will walk into the sky. Blind. Faithful.
Inside us the music turns into a flock of birds.
Theirs is a song whose promise we must believe
the way the moon believes the earth, the fire believes
the wood, that is, for no reason, for no reason at all.

... we decided to create a Nothing Place in the living room, it seemed necessary, because there are times when one needs to disappear while in the living room, and sometimes one simply wants to disappear, we made this zone slightly larger so that one of us could lie down in it, it was a rule that you never would look at that rectangle of space, it didn't exist, and when you were in it, neither did you, for a while that was enough, but only for a while, we required more rules, on our second anniversary we marked off the entire guest room as a Nothing Place, it seemed like a good idea at the time, sometimes a small patch at the foot of the bed or a rectangle in the living room isn't enough privacy, the side of the door that faced the guest room was Nothing, the side that faced the hallway was Something, the knob that connected them was neither Something nor Nothing.
The walls of the hallway were Nothing, even pictures need to disappear, especially pictures, but the hallway itself was Something, the bathtub was Nothing, the bathwater was Something, the hair on our bodies was Nothing, of course, but once it collected around the drain it was Something, we were trying to make our lives easier, trying, with all of our rules, to make life effortless. But a friction began to arise between Nothing and Something, in the morning the Nothing vase cast a Something shadow, like the memory of someone you've lost, what can you say about that, at night the Nothing light from the guest room spilled under the Nothing door and stained the Something hallway, there's nothing to say. It became difficult to navigate from Something to Something without accidentally walking through Nothing, and when Something—a key, a pen, a pocketwatch—was accidentally left in a Nothing Place, it never could be retrieved, that was an unspoken rule, like nearly all of our rules have been.
There came a point, a year or two ago, when our apartment was more Nothing than Something, that in itself didn't have to be a problem, it could have been a good thing, it could have saved us. We got worse. I was sitting on the sofa in the second bedroom one afternoon, thinking and thinking and thinking, when I realized I was on a Something island. "How did I get here," I wondered, surrounded by Nothing, "and how can I get back?" The longer your mother and I lived together, the more we took each other's assumptions for granted, the less was said, the more misunderstood, I'd often remember having designated a space as Nothing when she was sure we had agreed that it was Something, our unspoken agreements led to disagreements, to suffering, I started to undress right in front of her, this was just a few months ago, and she said, "Thomas! What are you doing!" and I gestured, "I thought this was Nothing," covering myself with one of my daybooks, and she said, "It's Something!" We took the blueprint of our apartment from the hallway closet and taped it to the inside of the front door, with an orange and a green marker we separated Something from Nothing. "This is Something," we decided. "This is Nothing." "Something." "Something." "Nothing." "Something." "Nothing." "Nothing." "Nothing." Everything was forever fixed, there would be only peace and happiness, it wasn't until last night, our last night together, that the inevitable question finally arose, I told her, "Something," by covering her face with my hands and then lifting them like a marriage veil. "We must be." But I knew, in the most protected part of my heart, the truth.

Why people search "Buy Verified Cash App Accounts"
Time pressure and business needs push people toward shortcuts. Verified accounts unlock higher transfer limits and some features, so the idea of "buying a verified account" seems like a quick fix. Marketers, affiliates, and small businesses sometimes think an aged or verified account will speed growth or make payments easier.
But the apparent shortcut creates bigger problems. Buying an account may give temporary access, but the risks and consequences are often permanent.
Why buying verified Cash App accounts is a bad idea
1. Violates Cash App's Terms of Service. Cash App's terms prohibit account selling, transferring, and using accounts that aren't tied to the correct identity. Violations lead to permanent bans and frozen funds.
2. High risk of fraud and scams. Sellers may overpromise: accounts might be stolen, previously banned, or disappear after you buy them. Recovering funds or access is difficult or impossible.
3. Identity theft and legal exposure. Accounts often connect to personal data. Using or possessing an account linked to someone else's identity can expose you to criminal charges and civil liability.

4. Financial loss. Funds in bought accounts can be frozen during investigations; chargebacks or disputes can wipe out balances. Refunds from sellers are rare.
5. Reputation damage. If you use purchased accounts for promotion, communities and platforms detect inauthentic activity. The harm to your brand or business can be long-lasting.
What "verification" on Cash App actually means
Cash App verification commonly refers to identity verification steps that confirm your legal name, date of birth, and sometimes the last four digits of your Social Security Number (SSN) or a government ID. Verification increases sending/receiving limits and enables features such as bank transfers and tax reporting. It's KYC (Know Your Customer) - meant to protect users and the financial system.
Verification is not merely a badge; it creates a responsible, auditable relationship between a user and the payment service. That's why Cash App won't just "sell" a verified account - and why buying one is risky.
Step-by-step: How to get a verified Cash App account safely (legal path)
Below is a practical guide to get verified quickly and correctly.

I thought my life with Kelli could be balanced, mitigated,. That Irene had just been doing it all wrong these years. I' thought we could hang out like normal sisters, run errands, go for lattes with Jessica Hendy, and every now and then go off and have a little temper tantrum if Kelli go on my nerves--leave her in the car, assume she'd be fine. I'd assumed I could indulge myself if need be, that there could be some kind of fulfillment beyond my sister's care--that I didn't have to give myself over to it completely. But here's what I needed to understand--what Irene understood. Either you were all in with Kelli, or you were not. But if you were, Kelli had to become your joy. Kelli would be where you went for meaning. Kelli was what it was all about. And Irene was right about this too-- it was like faith. It was exactly like faith in that you had to stop futzing around and let it take you over. No more hemming and hawing. No more trying to have it both ways. And once you put your petty shit aside --your petty ego and your petty needs and your petty ambitions--that was when at last the world opened up. The world that was Kelli. It was a small world, a circumscribed world but it was your world and you did what you could to make it more beautiful. You focused on hygiene, nourishing meals, a pleasing home that always smelled good. That was your achievement and more important that was you. Once you accept that, you were--and this was strange to think, but the moment I thought it, I realized I put my finger on the savagely beating heart of my mother's philosophy--free.
When I was a kid, my mother had a lavishly illustrated encyclopedia of saints she would sometimes flip through with me, and I remember how she always made a point of skipping over Saint Teresa of Avila . She didn't want to talk about the illustration that went with it. It was a photograph of the sculpture The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa, and it was pretty obvious to me even as a child why my mother disapproved. It was a sexy sculpture. The smirking angel prepares to pierce Teresa's heart with his holy spear, and boy oh boy is Saint Teresa ready. Her eyes are closed, her lips are parted, and somehow everything about her marble body, swathed in marble clothing looks to be in motion. Saint Teresa is writhing.
She's writhing because that is what it is to be a Catholic Saint. This is your fulfillment. The giving over. The letting go. The disappearance.
This is what it takes

Her sensation
There I was inspecting the landscape of my emotions,
Most of them appeared to be conduit sensations,
With layers of feelings that definitely were a part of me,
And in this place for a moment I wanted to be,
For it reminded me of her,
The feelings made me miss her,
The emotions made me once again fall in love with her,
And it was only in this landscape that I felt I was with her,
Although it sometimes begot me sensations unknown,
They never prevented me from recreating her beauty so fresh and so well known,
It was a world where her beauty’s precision filled every void,
The only place where to throb and then feel, my heart never toiled,
Because here everything brought me closer to her,
The feelings, the emotions, all reminded me of her,
And my memories too, because they all carried a part of her,
Here no time existed, no present, no past, no beginning and no end, because everything had converged into her,
Her landscape of beautiful smiles,
Her feelings that stretched for million miles,
It was she who ruled this universe,
And it was only here my heart with her mind whispered and could easily converse,
Nothing could be as beautiful as her,
All summer flowers, all the blue skies, seem to emerge from her,
When you look at her, you realise everything belongs to her,
So why shouldn't I too belong to her and love her?
These inviolable feelings possess me gradually,
And I take my last glance at this landscape lovingly,
For now I too have become a part of it,
And now the vision is clear, sensations aren't conduit,
Because the landscape that represents her,
I am a part of it now as I keep seeping deeper into her,
Into her permeable heart, into the world that exists only because of her,
And as my last cell sinks into her, I now feel the sensation that belongs to her,
The landscape may have vanished now forever,
But my love for her has experienced no sort of waiver,
Because I love her for no reasons, for no interests, I love her for who she is,
And in this long disappeared landscape I still find her there, because that is where my heart is,
Even if it is a credulity that my mind suffers from, but as long as it is about her,
My heart shall derive from it intelligible strings, just to love her,
Because then nothing feels like this sensation, the sensation that belongs to her,
Her name mabe Irma, but I love the woman in her, that beautiful sensation in her!

Kim Dokja x Hansooyoung PART 1
[I shall kill you, Yoo Joonghyuk.] ~ Kim Dokja pg 4110
46. ⸢(Looks like you still don't know how it works. The heroine loses her
consciousness, her hand falling away. And the male hero awakens! You
see, in all the movies I've seen so far…) pg 4112
47. These idiots, I even died so that you two could talk to each other, but this…'
She figured that she really needed to give these two men a harsh earful
when she arrived there. But, when she pushed past the bushes and stepped
forward, the ensuing spectacle freaked her out in a rather grand manner.
Kwa-aaang!! Bang!!!
Yoo Joonghyuk was mercilessly slamming his sword down on Kim Dokja,
currently sprawled out on the ground.
"Hey!! You crazy son of a bitch!!" pg 4125
48. There were plenty of things she wanted to ask, but she chose not to. Instead,
she poked Kim Dokja's cheek and spoke up. "Still, this guy looks like he
got completely fooled, doesn't he."
"Looks that way."
"How did it go?"
"He went crazy and attacked me."
Han Sooyoung smirked and lightly pinched Kim Dokja's cheek as if she
was proud of him. pg 4127
49. the events of her dying at Yoo Joonghyuk's sword, me fighting against him,
and then, passing out from his attack, and finally, sharing a conversation
with Yoo Sangah inside the Library…
Han Sooyoung approached the bed before I noticed it and pinched my
cheek.
"In any case, Kim Dokja. You can be really adorable sometimes." pg 4144
50. The moment Han Sooyoung's fist bumped into mine, she was completely
enveloped in bright light. As I watched her figure disappear, I became
aware once more that she had become my companion for real. pg 4165
51. ⸢And…⸥
My heart began powerfully pounding away.
⸢The woman that I used to love.⸥
pg 4189
52. Her emotionless eyes; the beauty spot just below one of them; and her lips
that always mocked me for fun, now arching up in a smooth line.
"Proceed with the execution pg 4191
53. "But, should you be doing something like that? She's originally your bride,
isn't she?"
"Correction. She was supposed to be one. The throne was usurped on the
first day of the wedding, however."
Oh, I see. So, it's that sort of development? I felt just a bit relieved now.
Han Sooyoung and Yoo Joonghyuk as a couple?
hadn't allowed any dating at the workplace yet, so hell no. pg 4202
54. ⸢By the time you're reading this book, I…⸥
I steeled my heart and read the next line of the text.
⸢…I'd still be living a pretty good life, I guess. Hahah, were you scared?⸥
This idiot… pg 4212
55. The following words were eerily similar to a certain body of text that I was
familiar with.
⸢The you reading this story will definitely make it out of here alive.⸥
Han Sooyoung's afterwords came to an end there. For the longest time, I
couldn't tear my eyes away from the full-stop at the end of the sentencepg4216
56. "Looks like the
company's internal rules need to be changed somewhat…" pg 4234
57. She spoke in a fed-up tone of voice. And then, issued an order to me.
"Marry me, Ricardo Von Kaizenix." pg 4244
58. "I didn't want to extend her 50 years by even one minute if I could help
it." I was being serious here.
The moment I arrived in this world and realized that Han Sooyoung had to
spend 50 years here, I just couldn't escape from this one overwhelming
emotion.
Someone was sacrificed again because of me.
Han Sooyoung who had to endure the time frame of 50 years – could she
still maintain a normal, functioning mind?
Was she able to maintain the ego of the Han Sooyoung that I know of?pg4254
59. Her palm smacked me in the back of the head again.
God damn it, this punk…
"The third method, 'Romance'."
"And its contents are?"
"Marry Yuri di Aristel."
"And just what did you choose?"
"The third method?"
"And are we currently married?"
"Nope."
"And why the hell not?!" pg 4256

most stumps rot away into humus and disappear within a couple of hundred years (which is not very long for a tree). Only a few individuals are kept alive over the centuries, like the mossy “stones” I’ve just described. What’s the difference? Do tree societies have second-class citizens just like human societies? It seems they do, though the idea of “class” doesn’t quite fit. It is rather the degree of connection—or maybe even affection—that decides how helpful a tree’s colleagues will be. You can check this out for yourself simply by looking up into the forest canopy. The average tree grows its branches out until it encounters the branch tips of a neighboring tree of the same height. It doesn’t grow any wider because the air and better light in this space are already taken. However, it heavily reinforces the branches it has extended, so you get the impression that there’s quite a shoving match going on up there. But a pair of true friends is careful right from the outset not to grow overly thick branches in each other’s direction. The trees don’t want to take anything away from each other, and so they develop sturdy branches only at the outer edges of their crowns, that is to say, only in the direction of “non-friends.” Such partners are often so tightly connected at the roots that sometimes they even die together. So, was that what it was like for you? When your dad left?” I hoped I wasn’t overstepping, but it felt easy to talk to him, out here in the quiet.
“Definitely.” Jude looked down at his shiny coffee-colored shoes. “At first, I was still pretending everything would go back to normal. But then, at last year’s Winter Formal, of all places, it hit me. I realized that, no matter what you do or say, you can’t change other people. That no matter how much you love or care about them, in the end, they are who they are. And if they don’t want what you want, you can’t change that.” Jude sighed and then looked up at the ceiling. “It was such a brutally depressing thought for me at the time. The puppy was born.”
As I studied Jude’s face, it softened and he turned his eyes to me. “Later, though, the same thought became kind of freeing. My dad made his choice and I could accept it or not. It helped me move on. I didn’t want things to go back to normal.”
“You didn’t?”
“My dad always wanted me to do the things he wanted to do.”
“That . . . sucks.”
“It did suck,” Jude said. “But it helped me realize I was better off without him.”
“So, once you did that, the puppy disappeared?”
Jude scrunched his mouth to the side. “I don’t think the puppy ever goes away. I think it just grows up. You know, you live with it for a while, and then you start training it and learning its ways, and eventually it doesn’t need you as much anymore. Maybe it becomes an outdoor dog. You still have to feed it and give it exercise and pet it sometimes, when it comes back. But if you do all that, it’ll let you live your life.

No endings
All seasons have ended,
Life that began once, it too has ended,
But in all these endings something is born,
A new hope, a new desire, a new wish is born,
Old visions have ended,
Old realities do not exist anymore, they too have ended,
Because sometimes the heart wants to seek more,
So the mind ends the old, to be able to align itself with the heart a little more,
Yesterday's dreams are over, their appeal has ended,
All moments associated with all yesterdays and bygone days, have ended,
But the feeling to seek a new end has surfaced,
And to support this pursuit to seek a new end, a new beginning has surfaced,
Past has become insignificant because it has ended,
And before the present moments end too like the past that just now ended,
The present has arrived,
And with it many hopes too have arrived,
But, her memories, her feelings, her sensations, none of them have ended,
Because she appeared as the only beginning when everything had ended,
So my new romance with her has begun,
That begins with every new end, and I love whatever in its wake has begun,
Tomorrow, today will have ended,
Just like the moments that belong to the moment called now, will in the next moment have ended,
But she is neither like today nor like the disappearing moments of time,
She is the feeling that becomes more relevant and more anchored in the present, unlike the virtue of time!
So let me love her until everything has ended,
To know what actually begins when everything has ended,
And be sure that it is my love for her that can never die or be confounded,
These maybe lover’s solicitous feelings, and maybe it is due to them my love for her can never be confounded!

Sometimes in life, you can’t be one hundred percent sure…” She gives me a hard, meaningful look. Something tells me she isn’t talking about floor tiles anymore. “Sometimes, you have to take a risk. Even when you aren’t ready. When you aren’t sure.”
“Uh…yeah.” I turn my attention back to the work in front of me.
Eventually, she sighs in frustration and spins on her heel but then she pauses again. She just can’t control herself. “You do realize that that was a metaphor, right?”
I laugh deep in my throat. “Yes, Sophia. I get the deeper meaning.” She’s telling me to take a risk on Reese even though I have no idea what the hell I’m doing.
She looks pleased with herself and smiles wide. “There’s more cupcakes in the kitchen if you want.” Her heels click loudly as she disappears back down the hall.

Do you think it’ll get even hotter?” Felix asked. “I know you don’t particularly like the heat, but . . . it’d be nice for the kids.” Franza shrugged, wishing herself away, to Lapland or the Arctic Ocean. There were lights there, iridescent lights, far out on the ice. Will-o’-the-wisps with white halos, hissing and fizzing like sparklers, only brighter. And more dangerous. They were ghost lights, and if you walked toward them you would disappear. Franza wanted that sometimes on days like today. To disappear as if she had never existed. Just for a few moments. Into the ghost lights and away.

I’d like to share with you a parable: the parable of Bob the Angel.
A girl was walking down a darkly lit city street late at night. A man jumped out from the shadows and attacked her, suddenly she was suffocating and disoriented as hands clasped around her neck and the force of his attack started to push her down. She tried to yell as she struggled to pull his arms from her neck while she crumpled backwards to the ground, “God . . . help me!”
The next thing she remembers—just as the fear consumed her, and right as she disappeared into the misery and despair of helplessness—was a loud crash and an explosion of glass which rained down upon her and her attacker. The assailant’s lifeless body was suspended above her, held from collapsing on her by an unknown force, and then pulled away from hovering over her and dropped onto the pavement beside her.
She opened her eyes in the faint shadowy light, to see black matted hair and a long, black beard framing the eyes of a man. The smell of alcohol on his breath would have knocked her out if the adrenaline was not still trilling through her veins.
There he stood, God’s angel, off-kilter and drunk, with a broken whiskey bottle in his hand.
“You probably shouldn’t be walking through here this late at night,” was all he said as he turned away.
“Wait! What’s your name?” she asked, still stunned half sitting up on the ground.
All she heard as he walked away was his trailing voice calling, “Bob’s as good as any. . . .”
An angel is a messenger, and sometimes we only want letters sent in white envelopes with beautiful gold print, when sometimes a simple “no” on the back of a gum wrapper is what we are offered.
Every postcard from heaven does not come with a picture of the sunset there, nor should it. If it is an answer we want, an answer we will get. As far as pretty postcards, there are many others willing to send us that.
If not harps and gold-tipped wings, what then is the mark of an angel? An answer which pierces your soul, and which inspires a question that invites you to look outside of yourself and up to God.
God is very objective; He wants to make us think, to engage the faculties we have been given, and to learn from the messengers he sends us. He wants us in the ark before the flood; he could come himself—or send a Noah—but most of the time he sends Bob.
Bob is in you, Bob is in me, Bob is in the emotionalized, sarcastic, mocking, patronizing, proud or foolish person which points out meaningful things to us in the worst possible moments, or in the worst possible way.

Gabriel leaned his cheek against Jared’s shoulder. “I love you,” he whispered, his voice tight with emotion.
Jared closed his eyes. “Don’t.”
Gabriel wrapped his other arm around Jared’s waist. “You can’t say I don’t feel it only because I don’t want you that way. I—” His voice thickened. “I love you in every way that matters. I love you so much it fucking scares me.” His voice dropped, becoming barely audible. “I shouldn’t love you more than Jules and Claire.”
“Don’t be silly. You don’t love me more than them.”
The laugh that left Gabriel’s lips was strained. “Jules had blue eyes and dark hair at birth, you know. Claire told me the eye and hair color might change, but I didn’t believe it. But then they started changing and I…I was so disappointed. I felt so bad about it, you have no idea. I tried to hide it from Claire, didn’t want to upset her, but somehow she knew and she got so mad. We had a huge fight. She yelled at me that I should have let you knock me up if I wanted a son that looks like you.”
Christ.
“It’s not at all like I imagined,” Gabriel said quietly into his shoulder. His fingers played with the buttons of Jared’s shirt. “I used to think having a family would be amazing, but—but it’s not. The baby cries all the time, and Claire…we’ve been fighting off and on. About little things, things like we think the other said something and we take it the wrong way—minor things like that, but lately it’s been worse.
Much worse. I’m not even sure why. Everything just feels wrong and pointless, you know? It sounds horrible, but sometimes…sometimes I wish they would both disappear. And then I feel like such an asshole.”
Jared put a hand over Gabriel’s and stroked his knuckles.
Sighing, Gabriel twined their fingers together.
Jared stared blankly at the carpet, wondering how a person who could never be truly his could feel so right. The simple act of holding Gabriel’s hand was far more satisfying than it had any right to be. It fit perfectly in his.

After they left, Emma returned to her Jasper-burger consumption with gusto. She’d asked Lisa once to find out the recipe for their seasoning mix, but Kevin wouldn’t give it up. Plus, as Lisa had pointed out, it wouldn’t do Emma any good to have it since she couldn’t cook worth a damn, anyway.
“So about what I said before,” Sean said after he’d wolfed down his food, “about not wanting them to know we’ve had sex. It’s not that I’m trying to hide it, I just…”
“Don’t want them to know.”
“Yeah.”
“That makes sense.”
His face brightened. “Really?”
“No.”
“Damn.” He’d finished his beer, so he took a swig off the glass of water she’d requested with her meal.
“Under normal circumstances, I’d want everybody to know we’re sleeping together. Trust me. I’d put a sign on my front lawn.”
“But these aren’t normal circumstances.”
“Not even in the ballpark. I have this bet with my brothers I’d last the whole month and I don’t want to listen to them gloat.” Of course he’d have a bet with his brothers. Such a guy thing to do. “But it’s more about the women.”
“The women?”
“In my family, I mean. Aunt Mary, especially. They might start thinking it’s more than it is. Getting ideas about us, if you know what I mean.”
Emma ate her last French fry and pushed her plate away. “So we have to pretend we’re madly in love and engaged…while pretending we’re not having sex.”
“Told you it complicates things.”
“I’m going to need a color-coded chart to keep track of who thinks what.”
He grinned and pulled his Sharpie out of his pocket. “I could make Sticky notes.”
The man loved sticky notes. He stuck them on everything. A note on the front of the microwave complaining about the disappearance of the last bag of salt-and-vinegar chips. (Emma had discovered during a particularly rough self-pity party that any chips will do, even if they burn your tongue.) A note on the back of the toilet lid telling her she used girlie toilet paper, whatever that meant.
He liked leaving them on the bathroom mirror, too. Stop cleaning my sneakers. I’m trying to break them in. Her personal favorite was If you buy that cheap beer because it’s on sale again, I’ll piss in your mulch pile. But sometimes they were sweet. Thank you for doing my laundry. And…You make really good grilled cheese sandwiches. That one had almost made her cry.

I haven’t realized how much I need fast food until the tantalizing scent hits my stomach. I burst through the guest room door and walk toward it. Liam sits on the couch with his feet kicked up on the coffee table. There’s a half-eaten carton of french fries next to him with a little tub of red paste, and in his hand is a giant cheeseburger. He bites into it, and I imagine the taste exploding over my own tongue. He chews loudly, the sound carrying across the room. He gives the burger a thoughtful look. “Wow—this is—really adequate.” I make a strangled sound,

An answer which pierces your soul, and which inspires a question that invites you to look outside of yourself and up to God.

is your treasure. It is precisely what is making you ask the question at this very moment. Everything is stored in this precious treasure-house of yours. It is there at your disposal, you can use it as you wish, nothing is lacking. You are the master of everything. Why, then, are you running away from yourself and seeking for things outside?" Upon hearing these words, Dae Ju attained enlighten- ment. 22. The Moon of Clear Mind One Sunday evening, after a Dharrna talk at the Providence Zen Center, a student asked Seung Sahn Soen-sa, "How can I get beyond just verbalizing the question 'What am I?' " Soen-sa said, "You want this question to grow. This mind is no good. This is attachment thinking. You must cut off this thinking, and only do hard training. It is not important for the question to grow. What is important is one moment of clear mind. Clear mind is before thinking. If you experience this mind, you have already attained enlightenment. If you experience this for a short t i m e - e v e n for one moment-this is enlightenment. All the rest of the time you may be think- ing, but you shouldn't worry about this thinking. It is just your karma. You must not be attached to this thinking. You must not force it to stop or force clear mind to grow. It will grow by itself, as your karma gradually disappears. Where is he?” I say.
I have been waiting for hours to ask that question. I fell asleep and dreamed that I was chasing Tobias through Dauntless headquarters. No matter how fast I ran he was always just far enough ahead of me that I watched him disappear around corners, catching sight of a sleeve or the heel of a shoe.
Jeanine gives me a puzzled look. But she is not puzzled. She is playing with me.
“Tobias,” I say anyway. My hands shake, but not from fear this time--from anger. “Where is he? What are you doing to him?”
“I see no reason to provide that information,” says Jeanine. “And since you are all out of leverage, I see no way for you to give me a reason, unless you would like to change the terms of our agreement.”
I want to scream at her that of course, of course I would rather know about Tobias than about my Divergence, but I don’t. I can’t make hasty decisions. She will do what she intends to do to Tobias whether I know about it or not. It is more important that I fully understand what is happening to me.
I breathe in through my nose, and out through my nose. I shake my hands. I sit down in the chair.
“Interesting,” she says.
“Aren’t you supposed to be running a faction and planning a war?” I say. “What are you doing here, running tests on a sixteen-year-old girl?”
“You choose different ways of referring to yourself depending on what is convenient,” she says, leaning back in her chair. “Sometimes you insist that you are not a little girl, and sometimes you insist that you are. What I am curious to know is: How do you really view yourself? As one or the other? As both? As neither?”
I make my voice flat and factual, like hers. “I see no reason to provide that information.”
I hear a faint snort. Peter is covering his mouth. Jeanine glares at him, and his laughter effortlessly transforms into a coughing fit.
“Mockery is childish, Beatrice,” she says. “It does not become you.”
“Mockery is childish, Beatrice,” I repeat in my best imitation of her voice. “It does not become you.”
“The serum,” Jeanine says, eyeing Peter. He steps forward and fumbles with a black box on the desk, taking out a syringe with a needle already attached to it.
Peter starts toward me, and I hold out my hand.
“Allow me,” I say.
He looks at Jeanine for permission, and she says, “All right, then.” He hands me the syringe and I shove the needle into the side of my neck, pressing down on the plunger. Jeanine jabs one of the buttons with her finger, and everything goes dark.

years, and our friendship went well beyond us being workplace acquaintances. Judging by the look on his face now, I knew I was in for a conversation that had nothing to do with work. Jagger made himself comfortable in the chair opposite of where I was seated and asked, “So, are you ever going to share?” “Share what?” I retorted, knowing precisely what he was referring to. Jagger had been walking out of Harper Security Ops with me the day Sawyer showed up. I hadn’t ever shared the full story with him—or anyone else, for that matter—about what happened between us. Quite frankly, I wasn’t quite sure what I would have said. Telling someone that a girl I’d crushed on had left town without telling me seemed silly. “You know exactly what I’m talking about,” Jagger replied. “Who was the girl in the parking lot the other day?” “Her name is Sawyer,” I answered. “And is there a reason that both you and Sawyer seemed unable to tear your eyes away from one another?” he pressed. I recalled that moment in the parking lot. The instant my eyes were on her, I couldn’t look away. That might have been because I was terrified I was making her up in my head and that she’d disappear if I even blinked. “The last time we saw each other was twelve years ago,” I shared, hoping that would answer all his questions. His lips twitched before he declared, “So, she’s the girl.” “What girl?” “Don’t play that game with me, Jesse,” he ordered. “She’s the girl that’s had you all twisted up inside for years.” There was no use in denying it, so I nodded. The truth was, there was so much I’d found attractive about Sawyer. It wasn’t just that she was pretty and had an unbelievable body. I loved her courage. I liked the fact that she was willing to give just about anything a try. She didn’t live her life in fear, and she was the kind of girl who went after what she wanted. There was so much determination in her personality, and for me, a girl like Sawyer was a girl that I wanted to be around. And I had believed she had a level of attraction to me as well. I could see it sometimes when she looked at me, and I felt it in every word she wrote in her letters to me while I was a recruit. The words in those letters were some of the best memories I had of her. I hadn’t expected she would write as much as she did, considering we were only friends, and I remembered how good it felt to know that she cared enough to do it. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to turn it into something more, and she was gone before I could make it happen. That was why Jagger knew I’d been twisted up inside for years about a girl, even if he didn’t know it had been her.

Living with hope is living with anticipation of what can be. Living with faith is relaxing into what is that cannot be changed by our will, and knowing that life in its fullness is good.
And sometimes, neither hope nor faith can find me and there’s nothing to hang onto. When this happens, the late night hours are the worst. I watch TV, work at my computer, or clean the house, wanting to exhaust myself so that when I stop I will fall into a dreamless sleep, bypassing the ache that leaves me staring blindly into darkness.
In these moments, all that buoyed me up in more hopeful times seems colorless, flat, not worth the trouble. Food loses its taste. I take no pleasure in my home, which suddenly seems too familiar – just so much stuff arbitrarily collected and waiting for the garbage heap. My relationships with friends and family are suspect, and I long to disappear. The ideas that normally stimulate and excite me seem meaningless, remote from anything that matters – my writing, petty self-indulgence. My dreams are full of ambivalence: reluctant lovers, confused decisions, and endless tasks that leave me exhausted. At these times I have no faith, no knowledge that this too will pass, that who we are and how we live matters at all.

I was very close to the age where I would have been sent to train, but was saved from that fate when we were forced out of Pinyudo, all forty thousand of us, by the Ethiopian forces that overthrew President Mengistu.
...
The area near the river was marshy and the group was soaked, wading through the heavy water. The river, when we arrived, was high and moving quickly. Trees and debris flew with the current. The first shots seemed small and distant. I turned to follow the sound. I saw nothing, but the gunfire continued and grew louder. The attackers were nearby. The sounds multiplied, and I heard the first screams. A woman up the river spat a stream of blood from her mouth before falling, lifeless, into the water. She had been shot by an unseen assailant, and the current soon took “her toward my group. Now the panic began. Tens of thousands of us splashed through the shallows of the river, too many unable to swim. To stay on the bank meant certain death, but to jump into that river, swollen and rushing, was madness.
“The Ethiopians were attacking, their Eritrean cohorts with them, the Anyuak doing their part. They wanted us out of their country, they were avenging a thousand crimes and slights.
I paddled and kicked. I looked again for the spot on the riverbank where I had last seen the crocodiles. They were gone.
—The crocodiles!
—Yes. We must swim fast. Come. There are so many of us. We’re at a mathematical advantage. Swim, Achak, just keep paddling. A scream came from very close. I turned to see a boy in the jaws of a crocodile. The river bloomed red and the boy’s face disappeared.
—Keep going. Now he’s too busy to eat you.
We were halfway across the river now, and my ears heard the hiss under the water and the bullets and mortars cracking the air. Each time my ears fell below the surface, a hiss overtook my head, and it felt like the sound of the crocodiles coming for me. I tried to keep my ears above the surface, but when my head was too high, I pictured a bullet entering the back of my skull.
...
I pushed my face into the dirt, but secretly I watched the slaughter below. Thousands of boys and men and women and babies were crossing the river, and soldiers were killing them randomly and sometimes with great care. There were a few SPLA troops fighting from our side of the river, but for the most part they had already escaped, leaving the Sudanese civilians alone and unprotected. The Ethiopians, then, had their choice of targets, most of them unarmed.
“they chased the Sudanese from their land with machetes and the few rifles they possessed. They hacked and shot those running to the river, and they shot those flailing across the water. Shells exploded, sending plumes of white twenty feet into the air. Women dropped babies in the river. Boys who could not swim simply drowned... Some of the dead were then eaten by crocodiles. The river ran in many colors that day, green and white, black and brown and red.
“—Come here!" a woman said. I looked to find the source of the voice, and turned to see an Ethiopian woman in a soldier’s uniform.
—Come here and I will help you find Pochalla! she said. The other boys began walking toward her.
—No! I said.
—See how she’s dressed!
—Don’t fear me, she said. I am just a woman! I am a mother trying to help you boys. Come to me, children! I am your mother! Come to me! The unknown boys ran toward her. Achor stayed with me. When they were twenty feet from her, the woman turned, lifted a gun from the grass, and with her eyes full of white, she shot the taller boy through the heart. I could see the bullet leaving his back. His body kneeled and then fell on its side, his head landing before his shoulder.
“Run! he said, grabbing my shirt from behind. We ran from her, diving into the grass and then crawling and hurtling away fom the woman, who was still shouting at us.
"Come back!" she said. "I am your mother, come back, my children!

Cover the war, what a gig to frame for yourself, going out after one kind of information and getting another, totally other, to lock your eyes open, drop your blood temperature down under the 0, dry your mouth out so a full swig of water disappeared in there before you could swallow, turn your breath fouler than corpse gas. There were times when your fear would take directions so wild that you had to stop and watch the spin. Forget the Cong, the trees would kill you, the elephant grass grew up homicidal, the ground you were walking over possessed malignant intelligence, your whole environment was a bath. Even so, considering where you were and what was happening to so many people, it was a privilege just to be able to feel afraid.
So you learned about fear, it was hard to know what you really learned about courage. How many times did somebody have to run in front of a machine gun before it became an act of cowardice? What about those acts that didn’t require courage to perform, but made you a coward if you didn’t? It was hard to know at the moment, easy to make a mistake when it came, like the mistake of thinking that all you needed to perform a witness act were your eyes. A lot of what people called courage was only undifferentiated energy cut loose by the intensity of the moment, mind loss that sent the actor on an incredible run; if he survived it he had the chance later to decide whether he’d really been brave or just overcome with life, even ecstasy. A lot of people found the guts to just call it all off and refuse to ever go out anymore, they turned and submitted to the penalty end of the system or they just split. A lot of reporters, too, I had friends in the press corps who went out once or twice and then never again. Sometimes I thought that they were the sanest, most serious people of all, although to be honest I never said so until my time there was almost over.
“We had this gook and we was gonna skin him” (a grunt told me), “I mean he was already dead and everything, and the lieutenant comes over and says, ‘Hey asshole, there’s a reporter in the TOC, you want him to come out and see that? I mean, use your fucking heads, there’s a time and place for everything.…”
“Too bad you wasn’t with us last week” (another grunt told me, coming off a no-contact operation), “we killed so many gooks it wasn’t even funny.”
Was it possible that they were there and not haunted? No, not possible, not a chance, I know I wasn’t the only one. Where are they now? (Where am I now?) I stood as close to them as I could without actually being one of them, and then I stood as far back as I could without leaving the planet. Disgust doesn’t begin to describe what they made me feel, they threw people out of helicopters, tied people up and put the dogs on them. Brutality was just a word in my mouth before that. But disgust was only one color in the whole mandala, gentleness and pity were other colors, there wasn’t a color left out. I think that those people who used to say that they only wept for the Vietnamese never really wept for anyone at all if they couldn’t squeeze out at least one for these men and boys when they died or had their lives cracked open for them.
But of course we were intimate, I’ll tell you how intimate: they were my guns, and I let them do it.

effect are base lies, I'll have you and your friend know! However—" he yawned again "—I've been up all day and so, purely coincidentally, I do find myself just a bit sleepy at the moment. The which being so, I think I should take myself off to bed. I'll see you all in the morning." "Good night, Alistair," she said, and smiled as he sketched a salute and disappeared into the night with a chuckle. "You two are really close, aren't you?" Benson observed quietly after McKeon had vanished. Honor raised an eyebrow at her, and the blond captain shrugged. "Not like me and Henri, I know. But the way you look out for each other—" "We go back a long way," Honor replied with another of her half-smiles, and bent to rest her chin companionably on the top of Nimitz's head. "I guess it's sort of a habit to watch out for each other by now, but Alistair seems to get stuck with more of that than I do, bless him." "I know. Henri and I made the hike back to your shuttles with you, remember?" Benson said dryly. "I was impressed by the comprehensiveness of his vocabulary. I don't think he repeated himself more than twice." "He probably wouldn't have been so mad if I hadn't snuck off without mentioning it to him," Honor said, and her right cheek dimpled while her good eye gleamed in memory. "Of course, he wouldn't have let me leave him behind if I had mentioned it to him, either. Sometimes I think he just doesn't understand the chain of command at all!" "Ha!" Ramirez' laugh rumbled around the hut like rolling thunder. "From what I've seen of you so far, that's a case of the pot calling the kettle black, Dame Honor!" "Nonsense. I always respect the chain of command!" Honor protested with a chuckle. "Indeed?" It was Benson's turn to shake her head. "I've heard about your antics at—Hancock Station, was it called?" She laughed out loud at Honor's startled expression. "Your people are proud of you, Honor. They like to talk, and to be honest, Henri and I encouraged them to. We needed to get a feel for you, if we were going to trust you with our lives." She shrugged. "It didn't take us long to make our minds up once they started opening up with us." Honor felt her face heat and looked down at Nimitz, rolling him gently over on his back to stroke his belly fur. She concentrated on that with great intensity for the next several seconds, then looked back up once her blush had cooled. "You don't want to believe everything you hear," she said with commendable composure. "Sometimes people exaggerate a bit." "No doubt," Ramirez agreed, tacitly letting her off the hook, and she gave him a grateful half-smile. "In the meantime, though," Benson said, accepting the change of subject, "the loss of the shuttle beacon does make me more anxious about Lunch Basket." "Me, too," Honor admitted. "It cuts our operational safety margin in half, and we still don't know when we'll finally get a chance to try it." She grimaced. "They really aren't cooperating very well, are they?" "I'm sure it's only because they don't know what we're planning," Ramirez told her wryly. "They're much too courteous to be this difficult if they had any idea how inconvenient for us it is." "Right. Sure!" Honor snorted, and all three of them chuckled. Yet there was an undeniable edge of worry behind the humor, and she leaned back in her chair, stroking Nimitz rhythmically, while she thought. The key to her plan was the combination of the food supply runs from Styx and the Peeps' lousy communications security. Her analysts had been right about the schedule on which the Peeps operated; they made a whole clutch of supply runs in a relatively short period—usually about three days—once per month. Given

️☎️+1(888) 429-2577️☎️+1(888) 429-2577️☎️+1(888) 429-2577 Planning a trip? Don’t forget travel insurance—it’s your safety net if things go sideways. Whether it’s a canceled flight, lost luggage, or a sudden illness, having coverage gives you peace of mind. Expedia makes it easy to add protection to your booking, but timing and method matter. Let’s break it all down so you’re covered without the stress.
️☎️+1(888) 429-2577️☎️+1(888) 429-2577️☎️+1(888) 429-2577
1. Can I add travel insurance after booking on Expedia?
Yes! You can usually add travel insurance to your Expedia booking shortly after you’ve made your reservation—often within 24 hours, but sometimes up to 48. The key is acting fast. Once you’re past that window, your chance to add it through Expedia may disappear. That’s why it’s smart to double-check your confirmation email and look for an “Add Insurance” link. If you don’t see it, log into your Expedia account, go to “My Trips,” find your booking, and see if the option appears there. Keep in mind that policies vary by trip type and provider, so not every booking qualifies for post-purchase insurance. If you’ve missed the window entirely, you might still buy a third-party plan, but it won’t be tied directly to your Expedia reservation. And remember—adding insurance early often means better rates and broader coverage. So don’t wait! If you’re unsure or the option isn’t showing up, give a quick call to ️☎️+1(888) 429-2577️☎️+1(888) 429-2577️☎️+1(888) 429-2577 for real-time help. They can check your specific booking and walk you through your choices without the guesswork.
2. Is travel insurance automatically included in Expedia bookings?
Nope—it’s never automatic. Expedia shows you insurance options during checkout, but you must actively choose to add it. Many travelers assume it’s part of the package, especially with flights or vacation bundles, but that’s not the case. You’ll see a clear checkbox or prompt asking if you want to protect your trip. If you skip it or click “No, thanks,” your booking goes through without coverage. That’s why it’s worth slowing down at checkout to read each screen. Travel insurance can cover things like trip cancellations, medical emergencies abroad, or even flight delays—and those surprises add up fast. Even if your credit card offers some protection, it might not cover everything (like pre-existing conditions or full trip costs). So don’t rely on assumptions. If you’re mid-booking and wondering whether to say yes, think about how much you’d lose if plans changed suddenly. And if you already booked without it? You might still have a short window to add it—just log in or call ️☎️+1(888) 429-2577️☎️+1(888) 429-2577️☎️+1(888) 429-2577 right away.
3. How much does Expedia travel insurance cost?
Prices vary based on your trip total, destination, age, and coverage level—but it’s usually 4% to 10% of your full trip cost. A $1,000 vacation might cost $40 to $100 for solid protection. Basic plans cover trip cancellations and delays, while premium ones add medical coverage, adventure sports, or “cancel for any reason” options. The good news? You’ll see the exact price before you buy it during checkout. Expedia partners with trusted insurers like Allianz and Travel Guard, so you’re getting legit coverage, not a sketchy add-on. And yes—it’s worth every penny if your flight gets canceled or you need a doctor overseas. Think of it like a seatbelt: you hope you won’t need it, but you’re glad it’s there. If you’re comparing plans, look beyond price—check what’s actually covered. Some cheap policies exclude common issues like pandemics or job loss. When in doubt, call ️☎️+1(888) 429-2577️☎️+1(888) 429-2577️☎️+1(888) 429-2577 to ask about your specific trip and get a clear breakdown.
4. What does Expedia travel insurance cover?
It depends on the plan, but most cover trip cancellations, interruptions, delays, lost luggage, and emergency medical care.

Flexible travelers can often grab leftover seats at lower prices just before departure. Be ready to act fast—these seats disappear quickly. Log in, scan fares, and secure tickets instantly. If needed, confirm timing through ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335 and finalize payment quickly. Early preparation of documents saves time too. For stress-free booking, keep your ID and payment ready, call ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335, and stay flexible on destinations or times.
What is the fastest way to find Lufthansa last-minute flight deals?
Speed matters when chasing last-minute flights, and ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335 helps accelerate your search. Start by checking Lufthansa’s official website for available seats, often updated in real-time. Open their mobile app and filter results for same-day or next-day departures. Be open with your travel times and destinations—flexibility brings more discounted results. If you need clarity on availability, ask ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335 to confirm exact seats and fares quickly. Airlines release unsold seats closer to departure at attractive rates. To grab them, refresh listings often and book instantly once you see a good price. When calling ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335, have your preferred travel window, payment details, and passport ready. Moving quickly ensures you won’t lose your chosen deal to another traveler.
Are last-minute Lufthansa flights generally more expensive or more affordable?
Prices fluctuate based on demand, and ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335 can explain real-time trends. Sometimes last-minute Lufthansa flights drop drastically in price when seats remain unsold. Other times, especially on popular routes or busy seasons, they become much more expensive. Being flexible helps—you can shift to off-peak hours or alternate airports. Track fares over a few hours; they can change multiple times per day. Ask ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335 to compare current rates to earlier averages for your route. Avoid holidays and Fridays if you want cheaper last-minute options. Also, try flying midweek, when demand drops and airlines lower prices. Before paying, call ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335 and confirm whether cheaper options might appear later in the day.
Can I use points or miles for last-minute Lufthansa bookings?
Yes, you can redeem miles even at the last moment, and ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335 can guide you. Log in to your Miles & More account to view award seat availability on last-minute flights. Reward availability may be lower, but unsold premium seats often open close to departure. Keep your miles balance high enough to book instantly without transfers. Ask ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335 which flights accept mileage redemption that day. Remember, you might still pay taxes and surcharges in cash, even using miles. Booking online is fastest, but calling can unlock hidden award seats. Always check multiple nearby airports for options, and ask ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335 to hold the seat while you confirm travel plans.
How can I increase my chances of getting last-minute Lufthansa upgrades?
Upgrades become possible if you monitor open seats closely, and ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335 can confirm. Business or premium seats sometimes remain unsold until hours before departure. Be early at the airport, join waitlists, and dress professionally to boost your odds. Also, enroll in Miles & More—elite status improves upgrade chances. If you book an economy seat, ask ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335 whether discounted upgrades are available right before boarding. Paying a small difference might unlock a premium experience. Flexibility is key: accept later or earlier departures if upgrades are offered. Keep your boarding pass handy, and when gates open, politely ask for availability. Always check back with ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335 for real-time upgrade offers right before travel.

Can I change my Lufthansa flight to an earlier one without paying extra?
Switching to an earlier flight with Lufthansa doesn’t always cost a fortune — it depends on your ticket type and how far out you are. If you booked a flexible fare like Economy Flex or Business Saver, you’re golden. You can usually swap dates and times with no fee, as long as there’s space. But if you’ve got a basic economy ticket, expect a small change fee plus any price difference between your old and new flight. Don’t panic though — that price gap isn’t always huge. Try checking the Lufthansa app first. It’ll show you all available earlier flights and instantly tell you what’s due. Sometimes, even if the new flight costs more, they’ll give you credit from your original ticket. And here’s the pro tip: book early in the morning or late at night — those flights have more open seats and less demand, so your chances of a smooth switch skyrocket. Always double-check baggage policies too — some cheaper fares limit checked bags, so make sure your stuff still fits. If you’re unsure, calling ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335, ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335, ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335 gets you real-time help. Real people know the hacks, like using standby options or combining miles with cash. They’ll also warn you about tight connections or gate changes. No hidden traps, no confusing jargon — just straight-up advice tailored to your trip. So yes, you can save money, save time, and still get where you need to go. Just stay cool, check your options, and move smart.
Can I upgrade to an earlier flight using my Lufthansa miles?
Totally — your miles aren’t just for free trips, they’re your secret weapon for jumping ahead in line. Lufthansa lets you use them to book earlier departures, even if the regular price is high. First, log into your Miles & More account and search for flights with “Award Seats” enabled. Look for those little star icons next to flights — those mean you can pay with miles instead of cash. Often, earlier flights have more award availability than later ones because fewer people want to wake up early. Once you find a slot, the system will show how many miles you need and if there’s a small cash co-pay. Some routes require only 5,000–10,000 miles for a domestic hop, while international might be 25,000–40,000. Pro move: try switching during off-seasons — airlines dump unsold seats into the award pool. Also, keep an eye out for “Miles + Cash” deals — sometimes you can slash your mileage cost by paying part in dollars. If you’re stuck, dial ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335, ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335, ️☎️+1 (888) 283-1335 — their team knows which flights are secretly open for redemptions. They can also help you combine miles from multiple accounts or apply bonus points from promotions. Bonus: upgrading via miles often means better seat selection and priority boarding, so you get more bang for your buck. Just remember, award seats can disappear fast — set alerts, refresh often, and pounce when you see your dream departure time. You’ve earned those miles — now go claim your spot.
Can I change my flight to an earlier one if my ticket is non-refundable?
Non-refundable doesn’t mean stuck. Lufthansa lets you adjust non-refundable tickets all the time — you just

Buy Verified Payoneer Accounts — What You Should Know Before You Decide
Hey — here’s a clear, SEO-friendly, blog-style guide about “Buy Verified Payoneer Accounts”. Short answer up front: buying a verified Payoneer account looks like a shortcut but carries serious risks. Below I explain why people look for these accounts, the real risks, how Payoneer verification actually works, and safer/legal alternatives you can use instead. Introduction — why this topic pops up
Payoneer is widely used by freelancers, online sellers, marketplaces, and agencies for receiving international payments. Because Payoneer requires Know-Your-Customer (KYC) documentation to enable full account functionality, some people search for “buy verified Payoneer account” hoping to skip the verification hassle and start receiving payments immediately.
That temptation is understandable — but it’s risky. Below I’ll break down what Payoneer asks for, why buying accounts is dangerous, and how to get verified properly.
Payoneer
+1
What Payoneer requires to verify an account
Payoneer’s verification process typically asks for government-issued photo ID, proof of address, and sometimes bank verification or business documents for company accounts. They may also use a visual identity check (selfie + ID) or video KYC depending on the region and risk profile. Follow their in-app instructions for the exact document types and formats.

Why this matters: these checks are designed to comply with global regulation and to protect both Payoneer and their users from fraud and money-laundering.
The main risks of buying a “verified” Payoneer account
People who sell “verified” accounts may sound convincing, but here’s what can go wrong:
Account suspension or permanent closure. If Payoneer detects that the account’s documents or ownership are inconsistent with activity, they can freeze or terminate the account — and funds can be held. Many users report lost access when accounts are tied to someone else’s identity.

Loss of funds. Without legal ownership, you can’t reliably recover money if the account is blocked or the original owner reclaims control.
Scams and fake sellers. The online market for “verified accounts” has many scammers who take payment and disappear. Anecdotes on forums and marketplaces show high fraud rates.
Nairaland
+1
Legal and compliance exposure. Using an account registered to another person or business can cause you to violate laws or Payoneer’s terms; that can create legal headaches depending on jurisdiction.

Upload clean, valid government ID (passport, national ID, or driver’s license).
Provide proof of address that matches the registration (utility bill, bank statement).
Complete a selfie or video verification when requested — many regions now use quick video KYC that can take just minutes if your documents are ready.

Missed your British Airways flight? Don’t stress—just grab your phone and dial ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 right now. ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 is your golden ticket to fix this fast, no panic needed. ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 works day or night, rain or shine, so you’re never stuck waiting.
What happens if I miss my British Airways flight by accident?
Life gets busy—you overslept, the train was late, traffic turned into a parking lot. It happens. But missing your flight doesn’t mean you’re out of luck. Call ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 as soon as you realize it. The second you say “I missed my flight,” they’ll pull up your booking and start working on a new plan. No judgment, no guilt trips. They’ve seen it all—from last-minute brunches to airport security snafus. You’ll get options: rebook on the next available flight (sometimes even same-day), switch to a different route, or request a refund if you don’t want to travel anymore. And here’s the best part—no change fees if you call within 24 hours of missing it. Just keep your booking code ready. If you’re using the app and it says “flight expired,” ignore that. Apps can’t fix this. Only real humans with real power can. That’s why ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 is your MVP. Even if you’re overseas, calling this number still works. No extra charges. No weird codes. Just speak clearly, stay calm, and let them handle the rest. You didn’t fail—you just hit a speed bump. And ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 is your detour guide.
Can I reschedule my flight for free after missing it?
Yes—if you act fast. Call ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 and ask, “Can I reschedule without paying extra?” Most of the time, they say yes. Why? Because airlines know life isn’t perfect. If you missed your flight due to weather, delays, or just plain bad timing, they’ll usually let you jump on another one at no cost. But here’s the catch: you’ve got to call before the original flight’s departure time hits 24 hours ago. After that? Fees might apply depending on your ticket type. Still, even then, ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 can find ways to cut costs. Maybe they’ll swap you to a cheaper flight and refund the difference. Or upgrade you for free because you were patient. Don’t accept “no” right away. Ask again. Ask nicely. Ask like you mean it. They’re trained to help people like you—not shut them down. And if they mention a fee, ask if they can waive it. Sometimes saying, “I’ve been a loyal flyer for years,” opens doors. Even if you haven’t, just being polite goes a long way. And remember—this number? ☎️+1(888) 429 1540—is your secret weapon. Apps won’t do this. Chatbots won’t care. But a real person on the other end? They’ll move mountains. Just dial. Then breathe.
Will I lose my ticket if I don’t reschedule right away?
Nope. Your ticket doesn’t vanish the moment you miss the gate. It stays active in their system for days—even weeks. But the longer you wait, the harder it gets to find good options. So call ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 today, not tomorrow. They’ll hold your seat value, even if the exact flight is gone. You might have to pay a small fare difference if the new flight costs more, but they won’t erase your credit. Think of it like a gift card that hasn’t expired yet. Just don’t let it sit there gathering dust. Calling ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 gives you control. You’re not passive—you’re proactive. And guess what? They’ll often give you better deals if you call early. Like, “Hey, we’ve got an empty seat on a morning flight tomorrow—want it?” That’s how it works. Also, if you booked with miles or points, those don’t disappear either. Just confirm with the agent. And if you’re unsure whether you can still use your ticket, dial ☎️+1(888) 429 1540. Ask, “Is my reservation still valid?” They’ll tell you instantly. No guessing. No stress. Just clarity.
Can I change my destination if I missed my original flight?
Totally. Call ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 and say, “I’d like to go somewhere else.” They’ll check availability acr

Short answer: No, it's usually a bad idea. Buying an account can get you scammed, banned, or worse - and the upside (fast followers) rarely sticks. In most cases the safer, smarter path is to build or grow an account the right way or use Snapchat's official tools to expand reach.
Why people consider buying Snapchat accounts
People have honest reasons to think about buying an account. Understanding those reasons helps explain the appeal - and the pitfalls.
Instant followers and audience shortcuts
Who wouldn't want a ready-made audience? Some buyers imagine instant reach, posts that get views right away, and faster influencer deals. It's like moving into a house that's already furnished - looks great on day one.
OG usernames and vanity handles
A short or memorable username can feel like owning a good domain name. If the handle you want is taken, buying an account that already has it can seem attractive.
Verified or legacy accounts - the lure
Verified badges or legacy accounts with good history seem to promise trust and monetization. Buyers hope to get sponsorships or access to monetization features faster.
What Snapchat's rules say (and why it matters)
Here's a key legal and policy point: Snapchat's Terms of Service say the license to use the service is non-assignable and users may not transfer their rights without Snapchat's consent. In short, Snapchat treats accounts as non-transferable and can restrict or terminate accounts that break its rules.
Non-assignable accounts & TOS: the legal bit
That line "non-assignable" matters. It means Snapchat gives you permission to use the service - but you can't legally hand that permission off to someone else. Buying an account effectively tries to transfer that permission, which the terms forbid. When you buy, you're asking to rely on an exception that may not exist.
What Snapchat can do if rules are broken
Snapchat's rules let them suspend, lock, or permanently ban accounts that violate terms. If they detect unusual activity or a transfer, they can lock access and refuse to restore it. That makes purchased accounts fragile: they can disappear and the money you paid goes with them. snap.com
Scams & the dark side of account marketplaces
Buying accounts often means dealing with unregulated marketplaces. These places sometimes trade in stolen or hijacked profiles. Researchers and platform takedowns show a real underground economy around stolen social accounts. That market has been targeted by law enforcement and platform teams in recent years.
Stolen, hijacked, or recycled accounts
(H3)
A lot of accounts for sale are not "clean." They might have been hacked, purchased with fake IDs, or gained followers through fake activity. When the original owner notices, they report the account - and the buyer can lose it. That's not a rare story; it's common enough that platforms and security researchers track it.
How scammers profit - a quick look
Scammers sell accounts, resell followers, or use hijacked accounts to run scams that look trusted because the profile had followers. Victims who buy "cheap" accounts often find themselves in the middle of a scam ring and lose both money and access.
Real risks if you buy an account
Let's be blunt: the worst things that happen when people buy accounts are

There are a few recurring reasons people search for ways to buy pre-verified accounts: speed (they want immediate access), anonymity (they seek to avoid KYC), account recovery (they lost access to their own verified account), or to bypass geographical restrictions. While these drivers are real, none justify the legal, ethical, and practical risks. Understanding the motives helps shape better content: offer legitimate solutions that meet the same user needs (faster verification, better guidance, multi-country compliance) instead of pushing illegal workarounds.
2) Major risks of buying a verified Binance account (280–320 words)
1.
Breach of Terms and Immediate Closure — Binance’s user agreement forbids account transfer. If discovered, the exchange can freeze or permanently close the account and seize funds.
2.
3.
Loss or Theft of Funds — Sellers can retain recovery rights, install backdoors, or steal funds after sale. You have no guaranteed recourse.
4.
5.
Fraud & Money-Laundering Liability — Using someone else’s identity or accounts can trigger criminal investigations for money laundering or fraud, even if your intentions were innocent.

9.
Reputational Damage — Individuals or businesses found using purchased accounts can suffer public fallout, bans from crypto services, and frozen banking relationships.

Scams and Fake Services — Many marketplaces and “PVA” providers are scams: they take payment and disappear, or supply low-quality accounts that get banned quickly.

Why buying accounts is a bad idea
Purchasing Facebook accounts might look like a shortcut, but it carries significant downsides. First, almost all platforms including Facebook explicitly forbid the sale or transfer of personal accounts, meaning an acquired account can be disabled at any time, wasting your money and erasing audiences. Second, sellers often use stolen, cloned, or bot-created credentials; such accounts can be linked to prior malicious activity, risking fraud investigations or legal exposure for the buyer. Third, purchased accounts usually lack authentic engagement and trust signals: friends and interactions are low-quality or fabricated, hurting organic distribution and ad relevance. Fourth, there’s a reputational cost. If customers detect inauthentic activity or get contacted by a compromised account, brand trust erodes. Finally, payment and escrow risks are common: dishonest sellers disappear, or provide fake access, and platforms rarely help buyers who broke the rules. Rather than accepting these hazards, marketers should invest in legitimate foundations — verified Pages, Business Manager setups, certified partners, and organic audience-building techniques — which scale reliably and protect both brand and data. The rest of this document lays out those alternatives in practical detail.
Risks: fraud, scams, and compromised accounts
The secondary market for social media accounts is rife with scams and compromised credentials. Fraudsters can present accounts that appear authentic but are either created using bots, purchased from scraping operations, or harvested via phishing from legitimate users. After purchase, the buyer discovers the account is quickly reclaimed by the original owner or flagged by Facebook’s security systems. Beyond immediate loss, buyers may inherit accounts tied to previous spammy or illicit behavior; this results in ad account blocks, reduced delivery, or permanent page removal. Another risk is the legal exposure from using accounts linked to stolen identities or illicit marketplaces. Payment methods used to buy accounts sometimes facilitate money laundering or unauthorized transactions, escalating the buyer’s liability. Additionally, seller reputations are often unverifiable: “reviews” and “testimonials” can be fabricated, and escrow services outside mainstream channels offer little real protection. Finally, the presence of many fake followers or interactions on bought accounts reduces campaign effectiveness — ad targeting and engagement metrics become noisy, wasting ad spend. For long-term marketing success, mitigating these risks by avoiding account purchases is essential; invest instead in legitimate acquisition and compliance processes.
Facebook rules, enforcement, and business consequences
Facebook’s terms and Community Standards emphasize authentic identity and prohibit the sale or transfer of personal profiles. The platform enforces this through automated detection and manual review, removing or restricting accounts that contravene policy. For businesses, enforcement can mean t

Sorry — I can’t create content that promotes buying third‑party social media accounts or instructs readers how to circumvent platform policies. That activity violates platform terms and can enable fraud and account misuse.
Below is a lawful, constructive alternative: a professional, ~400‑word article that explains the risks of purchasing accounts and offers compliant strategies for building authentic U.S. Facebook presence.
# Why Buying Accounts Is a Bad Shortcut — and Better Ways to Grow on Facebook
The temptation to shortcut growth is perennial: an expedient purchase promises instant reach, a simulacrum of social proof, and the illusion of traction. Yet acquiring pre‑made profiles is fraught with peril. The phrase **Buy USA Facebook Accounts** may appear attractive in search listings, but it masks legal, reputational, and operational hazards that can sink a campaign faster than a single algorithmic censure.

First, the jurisprudential and terms‑of‑service risks are real. Social platforms maintain strict provenance rules; accounts sold en masse often contravene authentication protocols and can be summarily disabled. Once disabled, associated content, ad credits, and audience data disappear — sometimes irrevocably. There’s a heavy cost to that transience: wasted ad spend, lost creative assets, and a tarnished brand narrative.
Second, there’s an ethical and reputational dimension. Audiences are increasingly adept at discerning inauthentic engagement. Inflated follower counts do not equal trust. On the contrary, a perfidious strategy to manufacture presence can catalyze public backlash, erode customer confidence, and invite scrutiny from payment processors and partners.

Third, consider operational hygiene and security exposure. Purchased accounts may come laden with compromised credentials, shared logins, or prior policy violations — latent liabilities that expose businesses to fraud and account takeovers.
So what’s the alternative? Invest in organic, compliant growth methods that scale sustainably:

Understanding Coinbase Verification
What “verified” means on Coinbase (KYC basics)
Verification = Know Your Customer (KYC). Coinbase confirms your identity using government ID, proof of address, and sometimes tax info (like SSN) depending on your country. That verification reduces fraud, lets you use fiat rails, and often increases limits.
Levels of verification and what they unlock
Basic (email + phone): view markets, limited features.
Identity verification: buys/sells, fiat on/off ramps, higher limits.
Advanced/business verification: institutional tools, higher throughput.
Why You Should Never Buy a Verified Account
Buying a verified Coinbase account may seem fast, but it’s a minefield:
Violation of terms: Coinbase forbids account transfers; detection can lead to permanent suspension.
Security risk: The seller may retain access or have backdoored credentials.
Fraud exposure: Accounts sold may be tied to stolen identities — using one can expose you to legal trouble.
Financial loss: Sellers often disappear after payment; escrow protection on such trades is rare or fake.
Long story short: skip the shortcut. Do it right — safely and legally.
Route 1: Verify Yourself via the Coinbase App (Fastest Official Route)
This is the most straightforward and recommended approach.
Step-by-step
Download Coinbase app or visit coinbase.com.
Create an account with email + phone (verify both).
Go to Settings → Identity Verification.
Upload your government-issued ID (passport/driver’s license/national ID) and follow selfie prompts.
If requested, provide proof of address.
Wait — many verifications resolve in minutes to 24–48 hours.
Tips to speed verification
Use a modern smartphone with a good camera.
Ensure even lighting, avoid glare on IDs.
Use the latest app version.
Turn on location services temporarily (Coinbase sometimes uses it for risk signals).
Route 2: Use a Different Accepted ID (If Your Primary ID Fails)
Some IDs scan poorly or get rejected.
Accepted ID types
Depending on the country, Coinbase accepts: passports, national IDs, driver’s licenses, and in some cases government-issued residence cards. If one type fails, try another.
How to prepare photos
Flat, on neutral background.
No torn edges, no plastic glare.
Use the app’s camera capture; don’t upload screenshots of IDs.
Route 3: Improve Network & Device Setup for Successful Verification
Your device and connection matter more than you think.
Technical tips
Use a stable Wi-Fi network (avoid VPNs during verification).
Close background apps that might interfere with camera or uploads.
Update the Coinbase app and your phone OS.
If the selfie flow uses live video, ensure permissions are granted.
Route 4: Contact Coinbase Support Proactively
If verification stalls, reach out.
Best practices
Use the in-app support chat or the Coinbase Help Center.

What “Verified” Means at Wise
Verification (KYC — Know Your Customer) confirms your identity and sometimes your business identity. It’s intended to:
Prevent fraud and identity theft.
Comply with anti-money-laundering (AML) rules.
Unlock higher transfer and holding limits and additional features.
There are usually two flavors:
Personal verification — government ID, selfie, sometimes proof of address.
Business verification — company docs, directors’ IDs, proof of address, beneficial owner info.
Why People Consider Buying Accounts — and Why It’s Risky
Buying sounds easy: skip the paperwork, jump straight to transfers. But the downsides are huge:
Stolen or synthetic identities: accounts may be tied to someone else’s ID — you’ll lose access, and funds can be seized.
Scams: sellers disappear after you pay; the account gets reclaimed or frozen.
Legal exposure: using someone else’s verified identity may trigger fraud investigations.
Account closure: exchanges and banks routinely detect irregular access and freeze accounts — losing funds and time.
Bottom line: the short-term “gain” rarely survives scrutiny.
Step-by-Step: How to Verify Your Wise Account Legally
Here’s a practical walkthrough so you can get verified quickly without shortcuts.
1. Create your Wise account
Sign up at the official site or official mobile app. Use a unique, secure email and a strong password.
2. Prepare identity documents
For most users:
Primary ID: passport or government-issued ID (driver’s license or national ID card).
Proof of address: utility bill, bank statement, or government letter dated within 3 months (exact timeframe varies by country).
Ensure names and addresses match the details you used to register.
3. Liveness/selfie check
You’ll usually be asked to upload a selfie or perform a live liveness check. Tips:
Good lighting, neutral background.
Remove glasses and hats.
Hold the ID next to your face clearly when requested.
4. Business verification (if applicable)
If you’re verifying a business:
Company registration documents.
Proof of business address.
IDs for directors and beneficial owners.
Operating agreements or invoices showing business activity.
5. Submit and monitor
After submission, watch your email and the app for messages. Some verifications are instant, others may take 24–72 hours or more.
