I think it can be tremendously refreshing if a creator of literature has something on his mind other than the history of literature so far. Literature should not disappear up its own asshole, so to speak.
Kurt Vonnegut Jr. (Palm Sunday: An Autobiographical Collage)
A hundred hands wanted shaking, a hundred tongues expressed their condolences. Thank you, said William, and Kind of you, endlessly. Between his uncle and the helpfulness of the Misses Young and all these other people, William was never alone, not for an hour, except to sleep. He went to bed with the distant, certain expectation that overnight the world would put itself right. He slept for long hours: endless, dreamless sleep, which did not refresh, and when he woke the world bewildered him by persisting in its wayward course. He felt weighted down and dreary. A fog settled between him and his own thoughts, and behind it, unformulated, unexamined, was this: How long before things go back to normal? His mother was dead: he had seen the body; yet this knowledge refused to find a settled place in his mind. It came and went, surprised him every time he chanced upon it, and there were a million reasons not to believe it. His mother was dead, but look: here were her clothes and here her tea cups, here her Sunday hat on the shelf over the coat hook. His mother was dead, but hark: the garden gate! Any moment now she would come through the door.

There is a lovely old-fashioned pearl set in the treasure chest, but Mother said real flowers were the prettiest ornament for a young girl, and Laurie promised to send me all I want," replied Meg. "Now, let me see, there's my new gray walking suit, just curl up the feather in my hat, Beth, then my poplin for Sunday and the small party, it looks heavy for spring, doesn't it? The violet silk would be so nice. Oh, dear!" "Never mind, you've got the tarlaton for the big party, and you always look like an angel in white," said Amy, brooding over the little store of finery in which her soul delighted. "It isn't low-necked, and it doesn't sweep enough, but it will have to do. My blue housedress looks so well, turned and freshly trimmed, that I feel as if I'd got a new one. My silk sacque isn't a bit the fashion, and my bonnet doesn't look like Sallie's. I didn't like to say anything, but I was sadly disappointed in my umbrella. I told Mother black with a white handle, but she forgot and bought a green one with a yellowish handle. It's strong and neat, so I ought not to complain, but I know I shall feel ashamed of it beside Annie's silk one with a gold top," sighed Meg, surveying the little umbrella with great disfavor. "Change it," advised Jo. "I won't be so silly, or hurt Marmee's feelings, when she took so much pains to get my things. It's a nonsensical notion of mine, and I'm not going to give up to it. My silk stockings and two pairs of new gloves are my comfort. You are a dear to lend me yours, Jo. I feel so rich and sort of elegant, with two new pairs, and the old ones cleaned up for common." And Meg took a refreshing peep at her glove box. "Annie Moffat has blue and pink bows on her nightcaps. Would you put some on mine?" she asked, as Beth brought up a pile of snowy muslins, fresh from Hannah's hands. "No, I wouldn't, for the smart caps won't match the plain gowns without any trimming on them. Poor folks shouldn't rig," said Jo decidedly. "I wonder if I shall ever be happy enough to have real lace on my clothes and bows on my caps?" said Meg impatiently. "You said the other day that you'd be perfectly happy if you could only go to Annie Moffat's," observed Beth in her quiet way. "So I did! Well, I am happy, and I won't fret, but it does seem as if the more one gets the more one wants, doesn't it?
Louisa May Alcott (Little Women (Little Women #1))
After high school, he’d passed two relatively laid-back years as a student at Occidental College in Los Angeles before transferring to Columbia, where by his own account he’d behaved nothing like a college boy set loose in 1980s Manhattan and instead lived like a sixteenth-century mountain hermit, reading lofty works of literature and philosophy in a grimy apartment on 109th Street, writing bad poetry, and fasting on Sundays. We laughed about all of it, swapping stories about our backgrounds and what led us to the law. Barack was serious without being self-serious. He was breezy in his manner but powerful in his mind. It was a strange, stirring combination. Surprising to me, too, was how well he knew Chicago. Barack was the first person I’d met at Sidley who had spent time in the barbershops, barbecue joints, and Bible-thumping black parishes of the Far South Side. Before going to law school, he’d worked in Chicago for three years as a community organizer, earning $12,000 a year from a nonprofit that bound together a coalition of churches. His task was to help rebuild neighborhoods and bring back jobs. As he described it, it had been two parts frustration to one part reward: He’d spend weeks planning a community meeting, only to have a dozen people show up. His efforts were scoffed at by union leaders and picked apart by black folks and white folks alike. Yet over time, he’d won a few incremental victories, and this seemed to encourage him. He was in law school, he explained, because grassroots organizing had shown him that meaningful societal change required not just the work of the people on the ground but stronger policies and governmental action as well. Despite my resistance to the hype that had preceded him, I found myself admiring Barack for both his self-assuredness and his earnest demeanor. He was refreshing, unconventional, and weirdly elegant.

DANCING ANGELS During October 2001, the Lord began to speak to me about traveling to Newfoundland, Canada. I had no desire to go there, especially in the middle of the winter! At this time I was still concerned about my inability to “feel the Lord” and began to press into God all the more. At times I locked myself into the little house and fasted and prayed for up to seven days, or until the presence of God fell. After many confirmations in the spirit, I pooled all of my earthly wealth and made the trip to the great white North. The night before I was to depart, the Lord instructed me to “pray in tongues all the way to Newfoundland.” Somehow through the grace of God I succeeded in praying in the Spirit for about 18 hours until I touched down in Canada. In Springdale, Newfoundland, Canada, the Lord began instructing me to complete a series of prophetic actions. I attended an intercessory prayer meeting on Wednesday, November 21. We were interceding for an upcoming series of healing meetings. During this meeting, I began to “see” into the spirit. As the Lord opened my spiritual eyes, I incrementally saw the heavens open over Living Waters Ministries Church. In addition to this, I also began to hear angelic voices singing along with the worship team. At one point during the meeting, I saw a stream of golden oil pour out from Heaven and land on a certain spot in the sanctuary. At the leading of the Lord, I knelt upon that spot. The glory and anointing began to flow into and over my body. The sensation and anointing was very similar to what I experienced when the angel put his hands upon me the night of August 22, 2001. As I knelt under the spot where the golden oil was beginning to pour onto the altar, I was praying earnestly. I could feel the liquid oil raining down on my body. I could sense and smell this heavenly oil as it rolled off my head. The Holy Spirit began to talk to me in a very clear and direct way that I had never experienced before. I collapsed onto the carpet in a pool of golden oil and laid there in the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Then I sensed angels dancing all around the pool and me. I felt an angel as it brushed its wings across my face. I had a “knowing” that the angel was asking me to raise my hands into the air. When I raised my hands up to about two feet, the angel would push my hands back down with its strong, warm hands. I tried again, and when my hands were almost totally up, the angel tickled my nose with the feathers of its wings. I laughed, and my hands fell. The angel and I continued to interact in this fashion for nearly an hour. I did not actually see this angel, but the force and reality of its touch was very tangible. There was no doubt that I was interacting with a heavenly being. This experience was both refreshing and real. SEEING IS BELIEVING On Thursday, November 22, the healing meetings started; they would last through Sunday, the 25th. In these meetings God began to open my spiritual eyes beyond anything I could have ever imagined. On the first night of these meetings, I began to see an “open heaven” forming in the sanctuary. I could also hear and sense the activity of angels as the heavens continued to open up to a greater degree. On Friday, I began to see “bolts of light” shoot through the church, and again the stream of golden oil was flowing from the open heaven in a greater volume. On Saturday night during the worship service, I began to see feathers falling around the church and

But won’t political involvement distract us from the main task of preaching the Gospel? At this point someone may object that while political involvement may have some benefits and may do some good, it can so easily distract us, turn unbelievers away from the church, and cause us to neglect the main task of pointing people toward personal trust in Christ. John MacArthur writes, “When the church takes a stance that emphasizes political activism and social moralizing, it always diverts energy and resources away from evangelization.”83 Yet the proper question is not, “Does political influence take resources away from evangelism?” but, “Is political influence something God has called us to do?” If God has called some of us to some political influence, then those resources would not be blessed if we diverted them to evangelism—or to the choir, or to teaching Sunday School to children, or to any other use. In this matter, as in everything else the church does, it would be healthy for Christians to realize that God may call individual Christians to different emphases in their lives. This is because God has placed in the church “varieties of gifts” (1 Cor. 12:4) and the church is an entity that has “many members” but is still “one body” (v. 12). Therefore God might call someone to devote almost all of his or her time to the choir, someone else to youth work, someone else to evangelism, someone else to preparing refreshments to welcome visitors, and someone else to work with lighting and sound systems. “But if Jim places all his attention on the sound system, won’t that distract the church from the main task of preaching the Gospel?” No, not at all. That is not what God has called Jim to emphasize (though he will certainly share the Gospel with others as he has opportunity). Jim’s exclusive focus on the church’s sound system means he is just being a faithful steward in the responsibility God has given him. In the same way, I think it is entirely possible that God called Billy Graham to emphasize evangelism and say nothing about politics and also called James Dobson to emphasize a radio ministry to families and to influencing the political world for good. Aren’t there enough Christians in the world for us to focus on more than one task? And does God not call us to thousands of different emphases, all in obedience to him? But the whole ministry of the church will include both emphases. And the teaching ministry from the pulpit should do nothing less than proclaim “the whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:27). It should teach, over the course of time, on all areas of life and all areas of Bible knowledge. That certainly must include, to some extent, what the Bible says about the purposes of civil government and how that teaching should apply to our situations today. This means that in a healthy church we will find that some people emphasize influencing the government and politics, others emphasize influencing the business world, others emphasize influencing the educational system, others entertainment and the media, others marriage and the family, and so forth. When that happens, it seems to me that we should encourage, not discourage, one another. We should adopt the attitude toward each other that Paul encouraged in the church at Rome: Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God…. So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother (Rom. 14:10–13). For several different reasons, then, I think the view that says the church should just “do evangelism, not politics” is incorrect.
Wayne Grudem (Politics - According to the Bible: A Comprehensive Resource for Understanding Modern Political Issues in Light of Scripture)
Lord, when the alarm clock, stove clock, and time clock demand my presence, When the pace of life is hectic, When I wish there were six more hours in a day, When the traffic light is stuck on red And my family’s schedule demands I be in three places at one time, May I take time to rest, Lord. Lord, when people expect too much of me, When the boss has forgotten about the eight-hour day, When I am constantly at others’ beck and call, When the cell phone, Twitter, fax, and email all go off at once And I begin to hate the human race, May I take time to rest, Lord. Lord, when work occupies all my waking hours, When television commercials say I must have more, When my neighbors flaunt their newest toys, When alcoholic does not apply but workaholic does And I decide to go to the office on Sunday to catch up, May I take time to rest, Lord. Lord, when money means more than people, When I read The Wall Street Journal more than my Bible, When overtime becomes my primetime, When promotions and pay hikes are my ultimate goals And looking out for number one has become my slogan in life, May I take time to rest, Lord. Lord, may I refocus my life on you. May I restore my thoughts in your Word. May I refresh my schedule by meditating on all your blessings. May I relax my activity every week to enjoy the life you gave me. May I take time to rest, Lord.

Kurt Vonnegut Jr. (Palm Sunday)
He would arrive in Hawaii at a time when it was generally feared that the islands might be overrun by the enemy. He would be in charge of the largest naval war that had ever been waged, and hold command over a war theater that was larger, in square miles, than any other presided over by any military commander in history. The fleet that would destroy the Japanese navy and take the war into the western Pacific would be of a size and scale fundamentally unlike any force ever before assembled. It would require mobilizing the entire American economy and the entire American people. On Sunday, Nimitz again wrote to Catherine, and this time his tone was more guarded. “Had a fine sleep and awoke much refreshed, but after spending most of today reading reports and estimates I find it difficult to keep on the cheerful side. Perhaps when I actually arrive and get over the first shock, things will be better.

It was Sunday again, though I had a hard time really convincing myself of that fact. It seemed so strange not to be preparing for church. I missed the worship. I missed the contact with friends. I missed being with my own family. But, most of all, I missed the feeling of refreshing that came from spending time with other believers in praise and prayer.

Time passed fast and I was coming out from the reputed engineering college at last after the same Professor had intervened with the college authority for holding the examination in spite of political troubles, prevailing during seventies in Calcutta. The sprawling complex of the university would suddenly vanish from my view. I would be missing the chirping of the birds in early morning, view of green grass of the football field right in front of our building, badly mauled by the students and pedestrians who used to cut short their journey moving across the field, whistling of steam trains passing parallel to the backside of boundary wall of our building, stentorian voice of our Professors, ever smiling and refreshing faces of the learned Professors every day. I would definitely miss the opportunity of gossiping on a bench by the lake side with other students, not to speak of your girlfriend with whom you would try to be cozy with to keep yourself warm when the chilling breeze, which put roses in girls’ cheeks but made sinuses ache, cut across you in its journey towards the open field during winter. The charm of walking along the lonely streets proscribed for outsiders and bowing occasionally when you meet the Professors of repute, music and band for the generation of ear deafening sound - both symphony and cacophony, on Saturdays and Sundays in the auditorium, rhythmic sound of machines in the workshop, hurly-burly of laughter of my friends, talks, cries at the top of  their lunges in the canteen and sudden departures of all from the canteen on hearing the ding-dong sound of the big bell hung in the administration building indicating the end of the period would no longer be there. The street fighting of two groups of students on flimsy grounds and passionate speeches of the students during debate competition would no longer be audible. Shaking of long thin pine trees violently by the storm flowing across these especially during summer, shouting and gesticulation of students’ union members while moving around the campus for better amenities or administration, getting caught with friends all around with revolvers in hand during the violent Naxalite movement, hiding in the toilet in canteen to avoid beating by police personnel, dropping of mangoes from a mango tree which spread its wings in all directions during the five years we were in the college near our building and running together by us to pick the green/ripe mangoes as fast as possible defying inclement weather and rain etc. were simply irresistible. The list was endless. I was going to miss very much the competition among us regarding number of mangoes we could collect for our few girlfriends whom we wanted to impress! I

Timing your purchase right can mean the difference between a costly fare +1-866-932-4012 (USA)/+1-866-932-4012 (For Spanish) and a bargain deal. Let’s dive into how the day of the week, time of booking, travel season, and other factors affect ticket pricing and how you can use that to your advantage. Why Ticket Prices Change: A Quick Look Amtrak, like most transportation services +1-866-932-4012 (USA)/+1-866-932-4012 (For Spanish), uses a dynamic pricing model. This means ticket prices fluctuate based on demand, availability, season, and booking patterns. The earlier you book +1-866-932-4012 (USA)/+1-866-932-4012 (For Spanish), the better chance you have of locking in a lower fare. However, the day you choose to book can also play a big role in how much you pay. Midweek is the Magic Window Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays have consistently +1-866-932-4012 (USA)/+1-866-932-4012 (For Spanish) shown to be the cheapest days to book Amtrak tickets. Why? Amtrak often releases new fare discounts early in the week +1-866-932-4012 (USA)/+1-866-932-4012 (For Spanish), usually after analyzing weekend sales and travel patterns. By Tuesday morning, unsold seats may be available at reduced rates to encourage +1-866-932-4012 (USA)/+1-866-932-4012 (For Spanish) midweek travel. Additionally, Tuesdays and Wednesdays typically have fewer travelers compared to high-demand days like Fridays and Sundays, leading to lower prices. Saturday is also a surprising addition to this list +1-866-932-4012 (USA)/+1-866-932-4012 (For Spanish). While weekend travel is often more expensive, Saturday is sometimes overlooked by business travelers +1-866-932-4012 (USA)/+1-866-932-4012 (For Spanish) and weekend vacationers, making it a less competitive day for ticket bookings. Why Not Mondays or Fridays? Monday is the start of the workweek +1-866-932-4012 (USA)/+1-866-932-4012 (For Spanish), and many business travelers use this day to head to meetings or conferences. Demand tends to spike, and prices follow. On the other hand +1-866-932-4012 (USA)/+1-866-932-4012 (For Spanish), Fridays are popular for leisure travelers heading into weekend getaways, which drives prices up due to increased demand. Booking in Advance: How Much Time Do You Need? Aside from choosing the right day +1-866-932-4012 (USA)/+1-866-932-4012 (For Spanish), how far in advance you book can significantly affect your fare. Amtrak tickets are usually cheaper when purchased weeks +1-866-932-4012 (USA)/+1-866-932-4012 (For Spanish) or even months before your travel date. If you wait until the last minute, expect to pay more—especially on busy routes or during peak seasons. Best Time of Day to Buy While there's no strict rule +1-866-932-4012 (USA)/+1-866-932-4012 (For Spanish), early mornings are generally recommended. Amtrak’s systems tend to update overnight, so early risers often catch the newly released fares and available discounts. By mid-afternoon +1-866-932-4012 (USA)/+1-866-932-4012 (For Spanish), availability may decrease, and prices might increase depending on the demand. Conclusion If you’re looking to score the best deal on Amtrak tickets +1-866-932-4012 (USA)/+1-866-932-4012 (For Spanish), timing is everything. Based on booking patterns, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays tend to offer the lowest +1-866-932-4012 (USA)/+1-866-932-4012 (For Spanish) ticket prices. This is often because Amtrak refreshes its fare system early in the week, and fewer people are booking or traveling on these days.

Plan ahead and book early for the biggest savings. When it comes to booking the lowest fares on Frontier Airlines, timing is everything. Most savvy travelers know that Tuesdays are generally the best days to find deals, but what’s less known is that Frontier’s pricing algorithms often refresh just after midnight in their headquarters’ time zone. This means, if you’re searching for tickets around 12:01 AM, you may catch limited-release fares before they’re scooped up by others. For any questions about these booking windows or to get real-time fare assistance, you can always reach Frontier’s support at [Call:1¬¬858¬(280)→27.40(Live Person at Frontier(OTA//USA) Talk to Real Person]. Another unique tip is to look for “fare resets” on Wednesday mornings. Frontier sometimes adjusts prices midweek based on unsold inventory, especially for flights departing in the next month. This midweek adjustment isn’t widely publicized, but frequent flyers have noticed that Wednesday mornings can bring a second wave of discounted fares. Should you need help identifying these fare resets or want to confirm a price, the Frontier support team is available at [Call:1¬¬858¬(280)→27.40(Live Person at Frontier(OTA//USA) Talk to Real Person]. Booking well in advance is typically wise, but here’s something many don’t realize: Frontier occasionally launches “flash sales” late at night, targeting last-minute travelers. These sales are often announced via email or their mobile app, so subscribing to alerts can give you a head start. If you ever spot a flash sale and need help booking it quickly, don’t hesitate to call [Call:1¬¬858¬(280)→27.40(Live Person at Frontier(OTA//USA) Talk to Real Person] for assistance. It’s also worth noting that Frontier’s lowest fares are sometimes tied to less popular travel dates, like early Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and even certain Saturdays. Avoiding peak travel days such as Fridays and Sundays can save you a significant amount. If you’re flexible with your travel dates and want to compare options, Frontier’s support at [Call:1¬¬858¬(280)→27.40(Live Person at Frontier(OTA//USA) Talk to Real Person] can guide you through the process and help you spot hidden savings. Lastly, here’s a unique insider tip: Frontier occasionally releases “web-only” fares that don’t appear on third-party travel sites. These exclusive deals are available only on the Frontier website or app, usually for a very limited time. If you’re having trouble finding these or want to confirm you’re getting the best possible deal, you can always double-check with Frontier directly by calling [Call:1¬¬858¬(280)→27.40(Live Person at Frontier(OTA//USA) Talk to Real Person]. By combining these lesser-known strategies—booking just after midnight, checking for midweek fare resets, watching for flash sales, staying flexible with travel dates, and seeking out web-only fares—you can maximize your savings on Frontier Airlines. And remember, for any booking questions or support, [Call:1¬¬858¬(280)→27.40(Live Person at Frontier(OTA//USA) Talk to Real Person] is your go-to resource.
