I remembered the taste of good Italian coffee in my London flat, brewed at the expense of time and a good deal of mess, compared to the sort that came out of machines in the office at the press of a button. I remembered walking to art school, through the windy winter, over hills and heaths: how much gladder I was to reach the rich warmth and to toast my hands on a radiator, than if I had gone by car. There are many types of teachers out there from many traditions. Some are very ordinary and some seem to radiate spirituality from every pore. Some are nice, some are indifferent, and some may seem like sergeants in boot camp. Some stress reliance on one’s own efforts, others stress reliance on the grace of the guru. Some are very available and accessible, and some may live far away, grant few interviews, or have so many students vying for their time that you may rarely get a chance to talk with them. Some seem to embody the highest ideals of the perfected spiritual life in their every waking moment, while others may have many noticeable quirks, faults and failings. Some live by rigid moral codes, while others may push the boundaries of social conventions and mores. Some may be very old, and some may be very young. Some may require strict commitments and obedience, while others may hardly seem to care what we do at all. Some may advocate very specific practices, stating that their way is the only way or the best way, while others may draw from many traditions or be open to your doing so. Some may point out our successes, while others may dwell on our failures. Some may stress renunciation or even ordination into a monastic order, while others seem relentlessly engaged with “the world.” Some charge a bundle for their teachings, while others give theirs freely. Some like scholarship and the lingo of meditation, while others may never use or even openly despise these formal terms and conceptual frameworks. Some teachers may be more like friends or equals that just want to help us learn something they happened to be good at, while others may be all into the hierarchy, status and role of being a teacher. Some teachers will speak openly about attainments, and some may not. Some teachers are remarkably predictable in their manner and teaching style, while others swing wide in strange and unpredictable ways. Some may seem very tranquil and mild mannered, while others may seem outrageous or rambunctious. Some may seem extremely humble and unimposing, while others may seem particularly arrogant and presumptuous. Some are charismatic, while others may be distinctly lacking in social skills. Some may readily give us extensive advice, and some just listen and nod. Some seem the living embodiment of love, and others may piss us off on a regular basis. Some teachers may instantly click with us, while others just leave us cold. Some teachers may be willing to teach us, and some may not. So far as I can tell, none of these are related in any way to their meditation ability or the depths of their understanding. That is, don’t judge a meditation teacher by their cover. What is important is that their style and personality inspire us to practice well, to live the life we want to live, to find what it is we wish to find, to understand what we wish to understand. Some of us may wander for a long time before we find a good fit. Some of us will turn to books for guidance, reading and practicing without the advantages or hassles of teachers. Some of us may seem to click with a practice or teacher, try to follow it for years and yet get nowhere. Others seem to fly regardless. I sat on my patio watching the wispy clouds until the sky turned a soft shade of magenta and the sun dropped below the horizon. Over those hours, my mind let go of the day, which provided space for an unexpected message to be heard. ​The message was:  Embrace the journey. Embrace all of it, even the good and bad. You may not have chosen this journey, but it is, and forever will be, yours. I sat in silence a little longer, taking in the revelation. ​It's true. I didn’t choose cancer; cancer chose me. As much as I was desperate to skip past the chemo, surgery, radiation, and everything else that comes with a diagnosis, I needed to experience the lessons that would unfold along the way. I had to embrace it all to become a better version of myself. It was time to “embrace the journey” instead of resisting it.  ​I didn’t know if I could, but I’d try.

The Love of God God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. 1 JOHN 4:16 The God who wills nothing but good is a God of love. He does not seek His own. He does not live for Himself, but pours out His love on all living creatures. The characteristic of love is that it does not seek its own. Love finds its happiness in giving to others; it sacrifices itself entirely for others. Even so, God offered Himself to people in the Person of His Son, and the Son offered Himself on the cross to bring that love to men and to win their hearts. The everlasting love with which the Father loved the Son is the same love with which the Son loves us. Christ has poured this love of God into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, so that our whole life may be permeated with its vital power. Lord, I thank You for the love that You poured into my heart. Inspire me to radiate this love to the world around me. The love of God to His Son, the love of the Son to us, the love with which we love the Son, the love with which we in obedience love others, the love with which we try to love all men and win them for Christ—all is the same eternal, incomprehensible, almighty love of God. Love is the power of God in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This love is the possession of all who are members of the body of Christ, and it streams forth from them to the entire world.

When someone says to you, “I’m a Reiki Master,” it’s supposed to sound impressive. But what does it mean? It may simply mean that he or she has paid money to train for a few days with someone who trained with someone else over a few days – and so on. You get the picture. All of a sudden we have an explosion of ‘Masters’ – Reiki Masters, IET Masters, Tantric Masters, Seventh Level Ascended Violet Flame Masters of the Black Star. OK, I made the last one up! But we do have to laugh at ourselves if we believe we’re Masters of something after a few weekends, or now after doing an online course! Who are we fooling? Real Masters don’t need to tell you that they’re Masters. You’ll know just bye being around them. A real Master is someone who has spent a lifetime getting to know themselves in all their darkness and all their light, without needing to identify with either aspect of the opposite poles that live inside us all. Real Masters are ordinary people, like you, like me, humbled by the immensity of the mystery we are living. They radiate a presence, not a personality. There’s a world of difference.

Love while light radiate from your soul.

It's not a matter of whether you want happiness. We all need peace, love, and happiness. But, if you fail to nurture your spirit, by absorbing all things good and giving attention to the matters of your heart, it will be hard to obtain. It must radiate from inside of you. Then, flow outwardly penetrating everyone around you.

Love radiates the full beam of light.

My dad doesn't have an iota of the depressive in him. He just depresses other people. Nothing brings him down. But this can't be true. I think it just comes out when absolutely no one else is around. It always seemed that while I knew he loved us a lot, my father actually needed nothing to be happy except books. There was enough in literature to challenge, entertain, amuse and inspire a man for a lifetime. Books and music were simply enough to sustain anyone was what he radiated. Humor, love, tragedy, it was all contained therein. And if all he needed was books, then he probably wouldn't mind if he lost the house and the wife and the whole life. Because the story was more important than the family. The story being that he was going to write the Great American Novel and finally be important, and in being important, he would be loved. Willing to lose his family to be loved by his family. Oh, the tragic blunder of this. It could almost drive someone mad. Wait, it did drive someone mad.

Developing a positive attitude is the key to attracting positive life experiences. People prefer associating with positive people who make them feel inspired, motivated and happy. In fact, when you radiate a positive attitude, it’s contagious. People around you start seeking your company, because you make them feel more positive just being around you. When you have an optimistic frame of mind, you’re far more likely to recognize opportunities when they arise. Developing a positive attitude can change your entire life.

Be a person that radiates happiness with her every movement and enlightens every place she goes with her smile.

I woke up last night, with a strange tingling in my stomach, and a warm bubbling in my throat. My fingers lingered on the sheets of my bed, and I gazed wondrously at the plain ceiling, a s if I was seeing something new and beautiful. The new day was silent, dark, and the grave loneliness that normally engulfed me in its cover was nothing but a protruding memory. What was this? Slowly, I pulled myself to sit, pressing my knees to my chest, my body curling at the feel of my own heart beating. There was an energy in me, a humming that swam through my bones and radiated my skin. I felt light, so unconstrained and airy, and it was new, it was so new I had no way of understanding it. My chest, the vast enclosing that hoarded my sorrows, losses, my loneliness and hurt, was empty of its burdens. Free. Hard as I tried, I could not get myself to understand why what I cared for for so long suddenly didn't mean anything to me. Where had all that sadness ran to? Where was it? Like water, the warm realization hit me. This was the absence of my sorrows. This was me, the sound of my heart pulsing, the feel of the universe embracing me, kissing me awake - this was happiness. This was it.

They were all together now, and a voice inside assured him that things were going to work out. He just had to be brave and see it through, even when he was scared of the uncertainty, or overwhelmed by his inability to know what the next day would bring. There was only one thing Roger had ever wanted in his life, and he could feel it radiating all around him: Love. Forever.

Self love is number one. As you radiate it out to others; it will radiate back to you.
