Wakey wakey, Vex. Arenât you going to answer? Itâs your mother, and this is the fourth time sheâs called. Would you like me to tell her youâre indisposed?â Hold on a second. It didnât take long for her bleary mind to grasp Leo was here. In her room. About to talk to her mother atâ she squinted at her clockâ seven in the morning.
Eep.
Her eyes shot open, but before she could flail an arm in his direction and demand the phone, he answered. âMeenaâs phone. Can I help you?â
She moaned, her super hearing meaning she heard her motherâs very polite, âExcuse me, but who are you, and why are you answering my daughterâs phone?â
If this were Meena, sheâd say something like âIâm a serial killer, and sorry, but your daughter is all tied up right now. Muahahaha.â Of course, the last time she did that, the SWAT team wasnât impressed, and she wasnât allowed to hang out with Mary Sue anymore.
Trust her Pookie to stick to the truth. âIâm Leo.â
âHello, Leo. How are you today?â Her mother ever Miss Manners.
âI am just purrrr-fect. Yourself?â
âUm. Er. Would you mind passing the phone to Meena, please?â
âI would, but sheâs kind of⌠indisposed.â Did he just smirk at her as he said it?
She frowned.
He grinned. It was a sexy grin, a mischievous grin, but that still didnât prepare her for him saying, âHow about I get her to call you back once weâve located her clothes? With my help, Iâm sure I can get her dressed in no time. Or not.â How low and husky he said it, his eyes boring into hers, wicked promise within them.
Of course, that wicked promise would have to wait, given what heâd just said to her mother!
âAre you insane?â she mouthed.
âIf Iâm insane, then itâs totally your fault,â he replied, aloud.
Uh-oh.
âPeter! I need you now!â Her mother forgot her manners and yelled for Meenaâs dad.
Not good. So not good. Poor Leo. And she liked him so much.
Even if it was only going to be a verbal barrage, she still yanked the covers over her head so she wouldnât have to witness the carnage as her daddy came on the line.
Unfortunately, she could still hear it. âWho the fuck is this, and what are you doing with my daughter?â Daddy didnât bother with niceties.
âHello, sir, Iâm Leo, the omega for the pride harboring your daughter while her spot of trouble blows over. As to what Iâm doing with your daughter, I am trying to keep her out of trouble, but not succeeding very well so far. She has a knack it seems for causing disasters.â
Familiar laughter boomed. âThatâs my baby girl.â At least her father didnât see the havoc that followed her as a problem. Mother wailed sheâd never get married if she didnât start to act like a proper lady.
âAs to my presence with your daughter, just keeping an eye on her. Weâve run into a issue with an old beau following her here.â
âThat Russian prick showed up?â
âIndeed. And events have escalated where I fear there is only one thing to do. Itâs drastic, but inevitable. â
The click of the door cut off the rest of that conversation.
What the hell?
She poked her head out, only to note her bedroom was empty.
While Meena hid under the covers, Leo had wandered away.
Still talking to my father.
That couldnât bode well.
