That daily stuff—those responsibilities that seem more like distractions—those things we want to rush and just get through to get on with the better and bigger assignments of life—those things that are unnoticed places of service? They are the very experiences from which we unlock the riches of wisdom. We’ve got to practice wisdom in the everyday places of our lives. Never despise the mundane. Embrace it. Unwrap it like a gift. And be one of the rare few who looks deeper than just the surface. See something more in the everyday. It’s there.

If we place our hope and future in the hands of our unchanging, unflinching God who never leaves us or forsakes us, we'll find healing and freedom. We'll be able to see something on the other side of all the pain. Something good. Something we know will be so wroth whatever it takes to get well. So instead of running from the pain, we embrace it as necessary. We must feel pain to heal the pain. If we never allow ourselves to feel it, we won't acknowledge it's there.

I’m convinced breakthroughs come during this famine phase, not when we’re striving to make them happen. Breakthroughs happen when we get about the business of honoring God moment by moment, step-by-step, day by day by what we do and, more importantly, with the thoughts we think while we do. People who don’t say yes to the Lord can still live a good life. But only those who fully embrace God can experience the wonder and awe of a “yes” heart that lives the great life He intends.

I can’t continue to fully embrace God while rejecting His ways.

Embrace His Plan This hard place you are in is not a distraction. You are not being sidetracked. This is His way. “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (Jeremiah 29:11). You’ve probably heard this verse quoted time and again, but put it in context with the verses that come after it, and you’ll see the call to not only trust God but to have peace in knowing He will carry you through. Verses 12-14 go on to say this: “Then you will call upon me and . . . find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.” My favorite call to action here is to seek God “with all your heart.” Not just the parts of your heart crying for ease. Not just the parts of your heart crying for restoration. But find that place in your heart eager for growth, and let it cry out as well. Embrace this perfect plan, and you will find God, see His plan from His perspective, and enjoy peace right in the middle of the storm. In the meantime, my favorite promise here from God is that He will carry us. He carried us into this hard place, this exile of sorts, and He will carry us back out.

It’s tough being a sold-out soul for Christ stuck in a body that’s so tempted to sin. That’s why it’s essential that I view my time with God each morning as a preparation and an invitation.

Though I’ve been saved for a long time, I want to recapture the essence of this “no other” reality.

Heartbreaking seasons can certainly grow me but were never meant to define me. I let go of the hurt and embrace the growth the minute I’m able to say, “Yet not what I will, but what You will.

This journey will require you to make some tough sacrifices, but I’ve come to look at this process as embracing healthy choices rather than denying myself.

We must embrace the boundaries of the healthy eating plan we choose. And we must affirm these boundaries as gifts from a God who cares about our health, not restrictive fences meant to keep us from enjoying life. Vulnerable, broken taste buds can't handle certain kinds of freedom. Boundaries keep us safe, not restricted.

Fear makes the gap between where I am and trusting God seem an impossible chasm.

How dangerous it is when our souls are gasping for God but we’re too distracted flirting with the world to notice. Flirting will give you brief surges of fun feelings but will never really pull you in and hold you close. Indeed, the world entices your flesh but never embraces your soul.

If this now broken relationship was Your best, You wouldn’t have kept me from it. And if it is Your best sometime in the future, the enemy won’t be able to keep us apart. But for now, I have peace that there’s a purpose for this brokenness. I don’t need to control it. I’m just going to embrace it as good for today. Shield me from the enemy’s darts of doubt, discouragement, and division. Surround me with your reassurance, inspiration, and unity. Make me brave. Make me steadfast. Thank You for the certainty of Your protection. Amen.

Release isn’t stealing from us. It’s a gift—a gift to a woman weighed down, grasping her leaves in the midst of a snowstorm, desperate, so desperate for help. She can feel the twinges and hear the creaking sounds of a splitting break about to happen. She knows she can’t take much more. Tears well up in her upturned, pleading eyes. “God help me. It’s all too much. I’m tired and frustrated and so very worn-out.” The wind whips past her, trailing a whispered, “R-e-l-e-a-s-e.” She must listen or she will break. Her tree needs to be stripped and prepared for winter. But she can’t embrace winter until she lets go of fall. Like a tree, a woman can’t carry the weight of two seasons simultaneously. In the violent struggle of trying, she’ll miss every bit of joy each season promises to bring. No, release isn’t stealing a thing from her. From me. Or from you. Release brings with it the gift of peace. The beautiful, bare winter branch can now receive its snow.

And I know I can’t continue to fully embrace God while rejecting His ways.
