Dead pirates didn't get to spend their booty. Dead pirates didn't get to shake their booty, either. Bummer.

Hey." Lon said to Kar Yee, towering over her. "Hanging in there?"
"This? Pfft. It's nothing." Kar Yee said with a silly grin. "How's my favorite pirate captain? Did you come to give me something nice to look at? A little pirate booty?" She snorted a laugh at her own joke.

It is when the pirates count their booty, that they become mere thieves.

If the pirate articles were clear about anything, it was that the act of dividing up the booty was as close to a sacrament as anything else in the code.

Men like you give pirates a bad name,” Captain Auburn Sally said. “You aren’t pirates,” Captain Hook said with a laugh. “You’re just a bunch of little girls with attitude!” “Then I feel sorry for you, Hook,” Auburn Sally said. “Because you and your men are about to get your booty handed to you by a bunch of little girls. Ladies, charge!

Justice being taken away, then, what are kingdoms but great robberies? For what are robberies themselves, but little kingdoms? The band itself is made up of men; it is ruled by the authority of a prince, it is knit together by the pact of the confederacy; the booty is divided by the law agreed on. If, by the admittance of abandoned men, this evil increases to such a degree that it holds places, fixes abodes, takes possession of cities, and subdues peoples, it assumes the more plainly the name of a kingdom, because the reality is now manifestly conferred on it, not by the removal of covetousness, but by the addition of impunity. Indeed, that was an apt and true reply which was given to Alexander the Great by a pirate who had been seized. For when that king had asked the man what he meant by keeping hostile possession of the sea, he answered with bold pride, "What you mean by seizing the whole earth; but because I do it with a petty ship, I am called a robber, while you who does it with a great fleet are styled emperor.

A pirate is not judged by the notches in his cutlass or the size of his booty. A pirate is judged by the loyalty of his crew.

Ugh!" She threw her hands in the air. "No? No? That's your favorite word, isn't it?
"It's a classic," he told her calmly, his composure only succeeding in making her more irate. "So much simpler than, say, 'ain't gonna happen' or 'not a chance in hell.

The comfortable weight of the books in the canvas bag that Daniel had lent him made Jerry feel like a pirate coming ashore with his booty. No, more like a dragon heading back to his hoard. The urge to clutch his book bag to his chest, pet it, and call it “Precious” was strong.

The host had the kind of cannons that you’d find on a pirate ship. So, naturally, we filled them with black powder—like pirates—and tons of fruit—like hippies—and just blasted the booty off into the forest.

Francis Drake slowly surveyed the crew surrounding his men as he calculated the slim chances of success. Then he motioned for his men to keep their swords up. “Parley it is.” Grace grinned. “Yer not as dumb as ya look, Francis. Come aboard. Alone.” His men muttered loudly, and Drake held up his hand. “Fine. I’ll come alone... on one condition.” “And that is?” “That you stop calling me Francis.” ***

I remember reading that pirates pulled off a massive heist here in the mid 1800s. It’s quite a story actually, but to summarise, a travelling circus had come to town, and its excited inhabitants flocked to see the show, every last one of them, including the town’s coastguards. Taking advantage of the coast being unusually clear, pirates swooped down on a vessel stuffed to the gunwales with tobacco. They used barges to sail the contraband up the Adur to the village of Beeding, where the booty was soon sold and spirited away. Such was the fury of the King’s Revenue men, all of Shoreham’s coastguards lost their jobs.

Pomona's Feast by Stewart Stafford
Home from aggressive begging on November Eve,
A horror movie that won't be finished in the background,
The pirate's booty or robber's swag is examined.
Face in the bag, a cornucopia of scents in the nostrils:
Oranges, nuts, burnt popcorn, chocolate,
Toffee apples, crisps, Liquorice Allsorts, and Rice Krispie cakes.
A smörgåsbord Pomona's feast begins,
As a maternal voice advises frugality,
To no avail.
Noses in the trough,
Nothing eaten bears any relation to the thing eaten before or after,
Aching gums, jaws, and bellies swiftly ensue.
To bed to sleep it off,
The next morning, it's déjà vu,
The maternal voice again advises eating breakfast first, to no avail.
