Jesus has given each season of our lives its own joys and struggles. He doesn’t want us clinging to seasons past, longing for the way things used to be. He has grace and peace for the moment we are living right now. He has new hopes and truth for this day and this day alone. We don’t want to miss out on today’s beauty. We need to soak it up. Revel in it. Sing and dance. And embrace the season we are living out with gratitude.

Unlike me, Jesus doesn’t abandon His work for months at a time. He works in our lives constantly. He begins a good work and, piece by piece, creates new purpose, new means of service, and conforms us to the pattern He envisions. He never gives up on us.

Can they distinguish the sounds of bombs from those of fireworks? Has this elderly woman, who looked broken and brokenhearted, told them about the real price she’d paid with all the holes left in her heart and her history for the sake of these malls and cheap consumer goods? Over these next months, I have several prayer requests I’m planning to commit to Jesus. Just like those tulips are designed to respond to being planted, when I plant my prayers with Jesus, I can trust that He will deliver an answer. His answer may sometimes be no, and sometimes it may be wait, and sometimes it may be a different color or variety than I expected.
