When you are posessed by evil spirits, it is crafty manipulations that you follow; but when you are posessed by the Holy Spirit of God, it is wise discretions you pursue!

We Christian writers must paint evil with the blackest of brushes, not to sow fear, but to call out the monsters to be scattered by our light. If Satan cloaks himself as an angel of white, intent on deceiving the world, any attempt on our parts to minimize evil is only complicit with his strategy... Turn to the light; don’t fear the shadows it creates.

If you will tell me when God permits a Christian to lay aside his armour, I will tell you when Satan has left off temptation. The Lord keep us watchful in all seasons, and give us a final escape from the jaw of the lion and the paw of the bear.

If it’s a slip or even a fall in your deen (religion), don’t let shaytan (satan) deceive you. Let the slip make you witness His mercy in a more experiential and deep way. And then seek that mercy to save you from your sins and your own transgression against yourself.

Satan, the master deceiver, works best when he is underestimated, ignored, or denied.

Often because of misplaced priorities, we unwittingly limp along on a starvation diet of Scripture, forgetting that we have an appointment with Satan, our deceiver and accuser, the minute we rise from our reading chair.

Satan intends to deceive us by getting us to take our eyes off of who we are in Christ and focus on our flaws—and then spend our days figuring out how we can hide them.

The things we are chasing are ours anyway, and he knows it. But as long as he can continue to deceive us to see riches (which God gave us as tools) as destinations, we will not be able to take our place as the gods of the Earth, and Satan will continue his illegal reign and operations.

The suicide committed by Sampson was partly determined by the craftiness of Delilah and partly decided by the disobedience of Sampson. Satan uses crafty means to set traps for us, but by our obedience of the laws of God, the traps remain functionless.

The Enemy, however, was working in his life just like he does in ours: waiting him out. The Enemy is a patient foe and deceives us into thinking we can manage. We assume if Satan can’t take us out on night one, he’ll give up. But Satan will wait us out for decades if necessary.

Besides stage magic props and settings, ritually abusing groups use technology, such as that described by Katz and Fotheringham. Military/political groups have the most sophisticated technologies, and much training or programming is now done with virtual reality equipment. Movies and holograms are used to deceive a child into believing in things that are unreal. When a client says to you “I don't know if it's real; how can it be real?” remember that there are several options, not just two: (1) It happened just as s/he remembers; (2) it did not happen at all; (3) something happened, but due to technology and/or trickery it was not what s/he thinks it was; (4) the thought that the memory must be unreal is itself a program, as described in Chapter Twelve, “Maybe I made it up." p55

Some Christians go to great trouble studying Satan's ways so they can identify his deceptions, but I don't do that. I'm determined not to focus on Satan—he is defeated. Christ, who guides me and implements His will through me, is the victor. The only way Satan can affect God's work through me is when I believe Satan and doubt God. Satan will try to deceive you, but he cannot ultimately thwart God's purposes.

Perhaps it is true that, by some definitions, Satan is more religious than God. Many of the particularly proud sinners are deceived into thinking that Satan is anti-religious, that he likes seeing people do immoral things simply because he likes immoral things. Doubtful; Satan likes for people to do immoral things so that he can blame them for doing immoral things. The Father of Lies laughs not with his teammates, but at them.

Was this man the Messiah whom God had promised him or wasn’t he? All the miracles he performed could also be performed by Satan, who could even resurrect the dead. The miracles therefore did not give the rabbi sufficient basis to pass judgment; nor did the prophecies. Satan was a sly and exceedingly powerful archangel. In order to deceive mankind he was capable of making his words and actions fit the holy prophecies to perfection.

He causes us to become obsessed about our immediate future, making us anxious about work, home, family, health, and everything that is out of our control. He overwhelms us with distressing thoughts about things that will never happen.

Satan is the one behind it all. And believe me when I say, he isn’t fighting religion. He’s too crafty for that. And busy producing a counterfeit Christianity that’s so much like the real one, so many are fooled by it. No wonder he’s called the Master Deceiver.

And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved. —MATTHEW 24:10–13

How is it that in the Bible it is the Devil and his vessel the Antichrist that are repeatedly referred to as the schemers, liars and the deceivers; but in the Qur’an, it is Allah who is the greatest of all deceivers? Satan knows full well who he is, and as he was inspiring the Qur’an, he couldn’t help but brag a little.

The Bible warns about religious transformations that may appear good and therefore deceive many: 'For Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.' (2 Corinthians 11:13-14)

The reason why so many Christians fail all through life is just this—they under-estimate the strength of the enemy. My dear friend; you and I have got a terrible enemy to contend with. Don’t let Satan deceive you. Unless you are spiritually dead, it means warfare. Nearly everything around tends to draw us away from God. We do not step clear out of Egypt on to the throne of God. There is the wilderness journey, and there are enemies in the land.

The sisters always had that deceiving glimmer in their eyes that instilled the fright, and they hold on tight to what they want. They will not let go until they have your body, soul, or both. But- I guess that I won this battle, yet we still lost some life. They burn the fuel to keep the acknowledgment of the made-up past, apparently going. They try to lead us down the path of self-destruction; just remember with an idle mind that is Satan's workshop. We should have a mind at rest that has peaceful faith, that is not lazy.

As the crowning act in the great drama of deception, Satan himself will personate Christ...Now the great deceiver will mak it appear that Christ has come...resembling the description of the Son of God givenby John in the Revelation. Revelation 1:13-15 He claims to have changed the Sabbath to Sunday, and commands all to hallow the day which he has blessed...This is the strong, almost overmastering delusion. The Great Controversy--p.624 In Satan's personation of Christ and his public stand against Christ and the law of God, we see the fulfillment of Daniel 8:25,"He will destroy many and take his stand against the Prince of princes.

Some among them changed their answers, that his wrath be not invoked against them. As wax melts before the fire, may Satan’s evil schemes perish before You. You have given me Your shield of victory, and Your right hand sustains me. I pursued my enemies and overtook them. I did not turn back till they were destroyed. You are the God who avenges me and saves me from my enemies.

Ibn-Ishaq tells how it happened: “When Muhammad saw that his own people turned their backs on him, he was pained by their estrangement from what he brought them from God, and longed for a message that would reconcile him with his own people. He would gladly have seen those things that bore down harshly on them softened, so much so that he kept saying it to himself, fervently wishing for such an outcome. Then God revealed Sura 53, beginning with ‘By the star when it sets, your comrade does not err, nor is he deceived, nor does he speak out of his own caprice.’ But when Muhammad reached the words ‘Have you thought on Lat and Uzza, and the third one, Manat?’10 Satan added this upon his tongue: ‘These are the three great exalted birds, and their intercession is desired indeed.’” And here they were: the infamous Satanic Verses. The three “daughters of God” were no longer false gods, but giant high-flying birds covering the earth with their wingspans, graced with the power to intercede for those who worshipped them. The moment Muhammad recited these newly revealed verses in the Kaaba precinct, the response was overwhelmingly positive. “When they heard them, people rejoiced and were delighted,” ibn-Ishaq

APRIL 2 SATAN IS A LIAR AND THE FATHER OF LIES DON’T ALLOW THE enemy to strategize against you. Overcome and destroy his strategies through prayer. The main tactic of the enemy is deception. He is a liar and the father of lies. My Word will expose his tactics to you. I am light, and My Word is light. The light exposes the enemy and tears away the darkness. Beware of the hosts of lying and deceiving spirits that work under the authority of Satan. These spirits cause delusion, deception, lying, seducing, blinding, error, and guile. Call upon My name, and I will strip away the power from these deceiving spirits and will cause your eyes to be opened. Pray that your enemies will be scattered, confused, exposed, and destroyed. JOHN 8:44–47; 1 TIMOTHY 4:1; PSALM 68:1 Prayer Declaration The Lord has rescued me from all my enemies and from the lying and deceiving spirits that belong to the devil. My enemies are destroyed by my God. The Lord will lead me on level ground and will preserve my life. In His righteousness He has brought me out of trouble. With His unfailing love He has silenced my enemies and destroyed all my foes. In His power I will contend with the powers of darkness that are set against the kingdom of God.

Over at one side of the room, seated behind a small nondescript table beneath a small lamp, was a neat, black-haired major. Patient boredom was what his face chiefly revealed ... He asked my name ... Leafing through the pile on the right, the major found the paper which referred to me. He pulled it out and read it aloud to me in a bored patter. I understood I had been sentenced to eight years ... Could this really be my sentence - the turning point in my life? I would have liked to feel nervous, to experience this moment to the full, but I just couldn't ... The major had already pushed the sheet over to me, blank side facing up. 'No, I have to read it myself.' 'Do you really think I would deceive you?' the major objected lazily. Was I really just supposed to sign and leave in silence? ... He had already nodded to the jailer at the door to get the next prisoner ready ... 'Right there.' The major showed me once again where to sign. I signed. I could simply not think of anything else to do. 'In that case, allow me to write an appeal right here. After all, the sentence is unjust.' ... There was nowhere to appeal to. There was no appeals jurisdiction above it, and no jurisdiction beneath it. It was subordinate only to the Minister of Internal Affairs, to Stalin, and to Satan.

Christ wants no disciple who is forced to follow Him, but that is the way Satan would love to get disciples.  While Lucifer has great power, and coercion is Satan’s preferred approach to getting followers, even he cannot force us.  He resorts to deception to get us to follow him.  He has to because his plan for happiness is a lie.  We must recognize that being deceived is our choice-- Satan cannot force it.  Lasting peace becomes impossible for one who is deceived.  Piercing through that deception is the challenge of every mortal.

Seriously consider, that sin is of a very deceitful and bewitching nature; sin is from the greatest deceiver, it is a child of his own begetting, it is the ground of all the deceit in the world, and it is in its own nature exceeding deceitful. 'But exhort one another daily, while it is called 'today', lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.' It will kiss the soul, and look enticing to the soul, and yet betray the soul forever. It will with Delilah smile upon us, that it may betray us into the hands of the devil, as she did Samson into the hands of the Philistines. Sin gives Satan a power over us, and an advantage to accuse us and to lay claim to us, as those who wear his badge; it is of a very bewitching nature; it bewitches the soul, where it is upon the throne, that the soul cannot leave it, though it perish eternally by it.

By the one who had revolted in heaven the kingdoms of this world were offered Christ, to buy His homage to the principles of evil; but He would not be bought; He had come to establish a kingdom of righteousness, and He would not abandon His purpose. With the same temptation Satan approaches men, and here he has better success than with Christ. To men he offers the kingdom of this world on condition that they will acknowledge his supremacy. He requires that they sacrifice integrity, disregard conscience, indulge selfishness. Christ bids them seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; but Satan walks by their side and says: Whatever may be true in regard to life eternal, in order to make a success in this world you must serve me. I hold your welfare in my hands. I can give you riches, pleasures, honor, and happiness. Hearken to my counsel. Do not allow yourselves to be carried away with whimsical notions of honesty or self-sacrifice. I will prepare the way before you. Thus multitudes are deceived. They consent to live for the service of self, and Satan is satisfied. While he allures them with the hope of worldly dominion, he gains dominion over the soul. But he offers that which is not his to bestow, and which is soon to be wrested from him. In return he beguiles them of their title to the inheritance of the sons of God.

Sin and Satan deceive our hearts with lies that God is distant. His hand of discipline declares he is never nearer.

And then shall the wicked one be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus shall slay with the spirit of His mouth, and destroy by the presence of His coming; whose coming [i.e., the wicked one’s] is after the working of Satan, in all power, and signs, and portents of lies, and with all deceivableness of wickedness for those who perish; because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And therefore God will send them the working of error, that they may believe a lie; that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but gave consent to iniquity,

For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now restrains will restrain, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

He is a cunning deceiver (2 Corinthians 11:3). He is the adversary (1 Peter 5:8). He is the father of all lies (John 8:44). He is the slanderer (Revelation 13:6). He is the tempter (Matthew 4:3). He is the thief who comes to kill and destroy (John 10:10). He is the murderer (John 8:44). He is the evil one (Matthew 13:19). He blinds the minds of unbelievers (2 Corinthians 4:4). He intoxicates and captures the lost (2 Timothy 2:26). He masquerades as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). He roams the earth looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). He plots crafty schemes to trick believers (2 Corinthians 2:11).

Satan is a master deceiver, a destroyer, and a murderer at heart. These key attributes of our adversary are seen throughout the pages of Scripture.

These types of vicious attacks could be the reason that Satan is metaphorically called a “dragon” in Scripture (e.g., Revelation 12:311); also consider Satan’s use of a serpent in Genesis 3:112 to deceive Eve, which ultimately led to Adam’s disobedience that brought sin and death into the whole world (Romans 5:1213).

Satan seeks to blind us with his lies about God. Instead of the freedom and victory that can be ours, he wants us to be defeated and in bondage. He delights in deceiving us about the character of our God and wants us to believe that God doesn’t love us, that He is not good, not in control, not fair, not caring, and any other lie that he can convince us to believe.

Revelation 20:1–3a (NLT): Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven with the key to the bottomless pit and a heavy chain in his hand. He seized the dragon—that old serpent, who is the devil, Satan—and bound him in chains for a thousand years. The angel threw him into the bottomless pit, which he then shut and locked so Satan could not deceive the nations anymore until the thousand years were finished.

Even if you are good, When Satan has deceived you. You are the bad and Satan is the good.

refers to Satan in various ways throughout this letter. He is “the god of this age” who blinds the hearts of those who fail to heed the message of the †gospel (4:4); the liar who is opposed to Christ (6:15); the “serpent” who deceived Eve (11:3) and continues to deceive by masquerading as “an angel of light” (11:14). Moreover, it is “an angel of Satan” who continually afflicts Paul (12:7).

accompanied by a man that Revelation 19:20 calls the “False Prophet,” also possessed and empowered by Satan, who will perform “miraculous signs on his behalf,” that is, on behalf of, and to build the authority and power of the Antichrist. The False Prophet’s signs and astounding acts will deceive the inhabitants of the earth (Revelation 13:14). For example, he will be able to call fire down from the sky (Revelation 13:12). He will have the power to give breath to a statue of the Antichrist, “so that it could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed” (Revelation 13:15). Richardson writes: “Imagine for a moment, a miracle-working evangelist who is completely possessed by Satan and refuses to take no for an answer at the threat of death. This is exactly what the False Prophet will be.

The two things that will hold us in deception are ignorance and pride. First, we must realize that God does not desire that we be ignorant. Our primary source of truth is the Word of God. You may be believing something about God, yourself or others that is contrary to the Bible. That is one reason we as Christians must know the Bible. The more we know what it really says, the less of an opening Satan has to lie to us. The belt of truth and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (see Eph. 6:14,17) are, therefore, two very important elements of our spiritual armor as Christians. Pride also works to hold us in deception. This happens when we refuse to acknowledge that we have been deceived because, after all, we know better. Pride is an especially vulnerable area for those who may have grown up in church or have pursued higher Christian education. Satan can be holding us in bondage to sin that we refuse to see. But as my good friend Cindy Jacobs often says, “If you don’t think you can be deceived, you already are!

Finally, prudence enlightens us concerning the snares of the enemy, counseling us, in the words of the Apostles, "to try spirits if they be of God," "for Satan transformeth himself into an angel of light." (1Jn. 4:1 and 2Cor. 11:14). There is no temptation more to be feared than one which presents itself under the mask of virtue, and there is none which the devil more frequently employs to deceive pious souls.

There is a great counterfeiter who adapts himself to every culture, even deceiving true believers at times. He doesn’t charge on the scene clothed in red and wearing a hideous mask but charms his way as an “angel of light.” This is how Satan operates.

The devil is a master at making us question God and His Word. Twisting Scripture . . . taking a verse out of context . . .deceiving us into thinking God is mean-spirited—these are some of Satan’s favorite tricks.

This development—moving away from the view that God causes evil (rape, famine, sickness, war), towards a view that such evil is demonic—can be seen much earlier within Judaism in the intertestamental book of Jubilees (ca. 100 BCE) which revises the biblical narratives found in Genesis and the beginning of Exodus. The book of Jubilees takes many passages, which in the Old Testament books are attributed to God, and instead states that these were in fact the work of “Mastema,” the prince of demons. For example, while Exodus says that God killed the firstborn children in Egypt (Exod 11:4), the later book of Jubilees instead attributes this to “the powers of Mastema” which literally means in Hebrew “the powers of Hate” (Jubilees 49:2). This illustrates the shift in thinking that was occurring within Judaism at the time which recognized the obvious moral difficulty in attributing acts of evil to God. We can see a similar revisionism as well in the canonical books of the Old Testament itself. 2 Samuel describes God telling David to take a census, and then punishing him for it: “Again the anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying, ‘Go and take a census of Israel and Judah’” (2 Sam 24:1). David then subsequently recognizes that this was a sin: “David was conscience-stricken after he had counted the fighting men, and he said to the Lord, ‘I have sinned greatly in what I have done’” (v. 10). God then punishes David for this: “So the Lord sent a plague on Israel from that morning until the end of the time designated, and seventy thousand of the people from Dan to Beersheba died” (v. 15). This obviously paints a morally problematic picture of God, which is revised in the parallel account in the later book of 1 Chronicles, which instead states, “Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel” (1 Chron 21:1). Instead of God deceiving David and inciting him to sin, this is now presented as the work of Satan.

Korah would not have taken the course he did had he known that all the directions and reproofs communicated to Israel were from God. But he might have known this. God had given [405] overwhelming evidence that he was leading Israel. But Korah and his companions rejected light until they became so blinded that the most striking manifestations of his power were not sufficient to convince them; they attributed them all to human or satanic agency. The same thing was done by the people, who the day after the destruction of Korah and his company came to Moses and Aaron, saying, “Ye have killed the people of the Lord.” Notwithstanding they had had the most convincing evidence of God’s displeasure at their course, in the destruction of the men who had deceived them, they dared to attribute his judgments to Satan, declaring that through the power of the evil one, Moses and Aaron had caused the death of good and holy men. It was this act that sealed their doom. They had committed the sin against the Holy Spirit, a sin by which man’s heart is effectually hardened against the influence of divine grace. “Whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man,” said Christ, “it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him.” Matthew 12:32. These words were spoken by our Saviour when the gracious works which he had performed through the power of God were attributed by the Jews to Beelzebub. It is through the agency of the Holy Spirit that God communicates with man; and those who deliberately reject this agency as satanic, have cut off the channel of communication between the soul and heaven.

Global evangelism does not take place in a demilitarized zone but on the battleground of spiritual warfare. Satan, in vengeance and jealousy for that which belongs to God, is deceiving the nations and holding them in bondage to a lie.

Lord Jesus, You came into the world to seek and to save those who were separated from Your love. It is with a heavy and aching heart that I come to You, the Savior of sinners, imploring You to restore to saving faith my erring child. O Lord, my heart is breaking as I realize that my son (daughter) is following the way of unrepentant sinners, which always leads to condemnation. Save him (her), O Lord, save him (her). You have, in Your vast mercy performed many wonders, and I pray that You would lead back all the erring lambs who have wandered away from Your fold. O Lord, if by any fault or neglect of my own I have caused him (her) to have strayed from You, I beg of Your mercy that You would forgive me. Guide me by Your Holy Word, and show me how to share Your love, mercy, and forgiveness. Draw all of us closer to You in faith. Uriel continued, “But unlike a just prosecutor of crimes, the Nachash was a liar and murderer from the beginning. He was the father of lies, the tempter and deceiver of God’s people. He seeks to use God’s lawfulness against him.” Uriel had a particular bitter memory of the satan’s attempt in the past to sue Elohim in his own court. It was a diabolically brilliant strategy of manipulating legal procedure and technicalities against the Judge himself. But it did not quite work.

Hasan Basri He advised some of his students admonishing them about avoiding the state of being proud. He said: 1) Do not deceive yourself into becoming too proud because you are in a good or righteous environment, for there is no place that is better than Paradise, and our father, Adam, experienced there what is known to all. 2) Do not become proud merely because you worship often, for consider what happened to Iblis (Satan) after he spent a great deal of time worshipping. 3) Do not think yourself great because you have met with righteous people, for there is no man more righteous than the Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him), yet the disbelievers and hypocrites did not benefit by simply knowing him.

It’s easy to be deceived, but when we are following Christ with everything we have, it’s much harder for Satan to find a stronghold.

Every believer must test all teachers to-day, for himself, by the Word of God, and their attitude to the atoning Cross of Christ, and other fundamental truths of the gospel, and not be misled into testing "teaching" by the character of the teacher. Good men can be deceived, and Satan needs good men to float his lies under the guise of truth.

O Children of Adam! Let not Shaitan (Satan) deceive you, as he got your parents [Adam and Hawwa' (Eve)] out of Paradise, stripping them of their raiments, to show them their private parts. Verily, he and Qabiluhu (his soldiers from the jinn or his tribe) see you from where you cannot see them. Michael, release a thousand angels to earth, to fight and destroy Satan’s demons, who torment Cillian Joseph Finn-Barry’s mind.” The next few hours were intense. Dark forces of the deceiver tried to hold onto to Cillian with all of their might. They lost. Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.

Demons worm these teachings into false religions, cults, pulpits, denominations, and seminary classrooms. Satan is mentioned in four of the seven letters to the churches in Revelation 2–3. We must never forget that “Satan is always at church before the preacher is in the pulpit or a member is in the pew. He comes to hinder the sower, to impoverish the soil, or to corrupt the seed.”3 What are some of these demonic doctrines that are being peddled today? God is a myth. Creation happened by time and chance. Man is simply a higher form of animal. Man is inherently good. The Bible was written by men; it’s not inspired by God. The Bible is filled with contradictions and errors. The Bible is one of many books that contain divine revelation. Man can get to heaven by his own good works. Jesus is not God, but a created being. Jesus did not physically rise from the dead. The miracles in the Bible never really happened. Everyone will go to heaven. There is no hell. God’s highest goal is your happiness. God wants you rich and healthy. Demons are lying spirits who want to destroy us body and soul and deceive us until the end. They are dead serious about this mission. We must be serious as well. We must know the truth and do all we can to spread it.

When God gave Israel its first great victory at Jericho (Josh. 6), Satan attacked. God had commanded the Israelites not to keep anything from Jericho for themselves (Josh. 6:17–19). One man disobeyed. As a result, Israel was defeated soundly when it attacked the next city, Ai. God countered Satan’s move to start general disobedience in the nation by ordering the guilty man and his family stoned to death (Josh. 7). Satan’s next attack caught Israel off guard. He was determined to preserve some of the depraved Canaanites so that Israel would be exposed to their degeneracy. The people of the city of Gibeon deceived Israel into believing that they were not Canaanites. Without consulting God first, Israel made a covenant not to destroy the Gibeonites. Thus these pagan people were permitted to remain in the midst of Israel (Josh.

1 Timothy 2:11-15: Women should listen and learn quietly and submissively. I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly. For God made Adam first, and afterward he made Eve. And it was the woman, not Adam, who was deceived by Satan, and sin was the result. But women will be saved through childbearing and by continuing to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty.

When I do what I know is wrong…it is sin which dwells in my members (body of flesh).” It wasn’t Satan oppressing him; it was the sin already present within his own body of flesh[9]. We are warned not to be ignorant of Satan’s devices. This is so we are not deceived into giving him a place. He has no power to overcome the believer, for greater is He who is in you (Christ) than he that is

It is also important to notice that Satan enters the biblical scene as part of God’s creation. This means that he is not all powerful. He is only alive because God gives him life. He is a deadly deceiver, but his power is infinitely less than God’s power. So we shouldn’t be terrified of Satan’s power, but we do need to be wary of his lies and manipulation.

Before we received Christ, we were slaves to sin. But because of Christ’s work on the cross, sin’s power over us has been broken. Satan has no right of ownership or authority over us. He is a defeated foe, but he is committed to keeping us from realizing that. He knows he can block your effectiveness as a Christian if he can deceive you into believing that you are nothing but a product of your past, subject to sin, prone to failure, and controlled by your habits.

Revelation 20:3 says that Satan is cast into the abyss for 1000 years after the return of Christ to earth “so that he should not deceive the nations any longer.” This indicates that deceiving the nations must be one of his main goals during this present age.

Notice how questions like these are grounded in attempts to twist God’s Word. We always need to be careful when someone begins a statement with the words, “Did God really say . . . ?” After all, these are the very words that caused the fall of man in Genesis 3. The deceiving serpent tempted Adam and Eve to question the love of God and doubt the Word of God: “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden?’”[103] Through this question, Satan convinced this couple that God’s love was subject to their own opinion and that God’s Word was subject to their own judgment. He elevated the thoughts of men above the truth of God, and sin made its entrance into the world.

Satan’s activity mimics his nature: he deceives by hiding the hideous nature of sin under a facade of attractiveness. He

But she just tried to push the blame off onto the serpent: "The woman said, "the serpent deceived me, and I ate" Gen 3:13. That was true enough 1Tim 2:14, but the serpent's guilt did not justify her sin. Again, James 1:14 stands as a reminder that whenever we sin, it is because we are drawn away by our own lust. No matter what means Satan may use to beguile us into sin -- no matter how subtle his cunning--- the responsibility for the deed itself still lies with the sinner and no one else. Eve could not escape accountability for what she had done by transferring the blame.

When Scripture describes Satan as an angel of light, it should make the hair on your neck stand up with terror. Man’s greatest enemy is most present when we are most certain he is not. He comes as an angel of light. Satan is working his deception through disguise. We think we are doing the right thing, taking the needed stand, fighting the most important foe, but if we are not careful, extremely wise, and cautious, we are doing the opposite. Intending to advance the agenda of our King, we slip very easily into fighting the Lord and assisting satanic schemes. In every section of this book, we will spend one study assessing how Satan deceives us into believing we do well even when we fail to act like men.

Satan intends to deceive our hearts by getting us to take our eyes off of who we are in Christ and focus on our flaws—then spend our days figuring out how we can hide them.

N. T. Wright aptly notes, “But Rome is not the enemy; it is the Satan and his hordes, who are deceiving Israel into thinking that Rome is the real enemy, so that she (Israel) will not notice the reality.

To get to Adam, Satan went after a target of value to him. It is no surprise, then, that he is still relentless in trying to deceive Christ’s bride, the church, through false teachers, ill-placed priorities, felt needs, fear tactics, and coping mechanisms, to divert them from resting in Christ and in God’s wisdom, provision, and sovereignty” (p. 26).

One day I realized the perfect coincidence between the books I was trying to finish on gnosticism and moral behavior, and the attempts of my girlfriend at trying to stop me from finishing them with fights she would create, apparently, out of nowhere. I tried to convince her to pray and she laughed at my face. That's when I realized she was possessed by demons. Now, I'm just not sure if I still love her, if there's anyone there to love, or if I'm just being deceived. The only thing clear is that, wherever I go, I always have Satan on my tail.

Early Christian thinkers frequently employed the "deception of the devil" motif to explain God's activity in the defeat of evil. ...God fooled Satan into thinking Jesus was just another human being...

God is about order and freedom and truth and clarity. Satan is about confusion and bondage.

Satan is a visible and fleeting power, sarcastic and mocking, fearsome and insubstantial, cruel and elusive. Satan disguises himself to deceive; promises to trick; conceals to mislead; arms himself with fury to torture his prey.

Satan doesn’t need to deceive us; he just needs to keep us busy.

His most persistent starting point was the "two-source cosmogony" discussed in Valis: our apparent but false universe (natura naturata, maya, dokos, Satan) is partially redeemed by its ongoing blending with the genuine source of being (natura naturans, brahman, eidos, God). Together the two sources - set and ground - create a sort of holographic universe that deceives us. Disentangling reality from illusion is the goal of enlightenment, and the essence of enlightenment is Plato's anamnesis (as in 2-3-74): recalling the eternal truths known to our souls prior to our birth in this realm. But enlightenment is a matter of grace. God bestows it at the height of our extremity, in response to our need and readiness to receive the truth. These are Phil's basic themes in the Exegesis. Of course, the variations he fashioned are near infinite.

When God makes Himself known in your life, write it down. Everything. Documentation in the moment is critical if you want to create a high-resolution map of God’s plan for you. This is the time in which God has placed you and there is a reason. Don’t trust something as important as walking out the unique plan and purpose you were created to perform to memory that fades over time. Prevent the natural erosion of confidence engineered by the ruler of this world, Satan, the deceiver, by making notes. You have an eternally assigned role that the devil wants to distract you from, and he’ll use every trick necessary to get you to doubt your value, wander off your dotted line, and undermine your confidence in God as a personal, up-close Father who is with you now and forever.

Revelation 6:1–4 (HCSB): Then I saw the Lamb open one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures say with a voice like thunder, “Come!” I looked, and there was a white horse. And a large sword was given to him. CHAPTER 1 A PRIVATE DINNER 2 Thessalonians 2:9–12 (NLT): This man will come to do the work of Satan with counterfeit power and signs and miracles. He will use every kind of evil deception to fool those on their way to destruction, because they refuse to love and accept the truth that would save them. So God will cause them to be greatly deceived, and they will believe these lies. Then they will be condemned for enjoying evil rather than believing the truth.

What kind of people, then, are those who accept the gospel of the water and the Spirit given by Jesus? These people believe only in the Word of God, and they follow this Word alone. Paying no heed to man-made thoughts and man-made logic, they believe in and follow only the Word of God, no matter what anyone in this world might say. Like this, only those who believe in and follow God’s Word of Truth alone can be born again from their sins, become sinless, and enter the Kingdom of God. But those who, even as they believe in the Word of God, still place importance on the words of man as well, are deceived by Satan, and as a result they cannot be born again, nor enter the Kingdom of God. Unless they deny their man-made thoughts, they will ultimately fall into destruction, even as they believe in Jesus.

The testimony of the prophets and apostles is unexceptionable and cannot reasonably be called in question by anyone. For if it were uncertain and fallacious, it would be questionable either because they themselves were deceived or because they deceived others; but neither can be said with truth. They were not deceived and could not be. For if they were deceived, they were deceived either by others or by themselves. The former cannot be said because they were deceived neither by God (who as he can be deceived by no one, so neither does he deceive any man); nor by the angels (who do not deceive); nor by wicked spirits because the whole of this system tends to the overthrow of Satan’s kingdom. No more can the latter be said. For if a person is deceived in anything, it arises principally from this: either because he does not see it himself (but receives it upon the testimony of others); or because he has seen it only in passing and cursorily; or because the thing itself is obscure and too difficult to be comprehended by the mind of man; or because the subject is improperly disposed and prevented by some disease from making a proper judgment. But here there was no such thing. For (1) they profess to have received the things which they relate not from an uncertain rumor and from others who had a partial acquaintance with them, but they had the most certain and definite knowledge, perceiving them with their eyes and ears and employing the greatest attention and study to investigate them. (2) Nor do they speak of things remote and distant, but of those which were done in the very places and time in which they wrote. Hence John says, 'That which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, of the Word of life, declare we unto you' (1 Jn. 1:1). (3) They do not discourse of things obscure and merely speculative (in which the ignorant and illiterate could easily have been deceived, not being able to rise to their sublimity), but of facts cognizable by the senses and before their eyes. For instance, of the resurrection of Christ (with whom they had been familiar before his death) who manifested himself to them after his resurrection, not momentarily, but for a long time; not only once, but often; not before one and then another, but before many of both sexes and all conditions. (4) Finally, it cannot be said that their faculties were impaired or in a diseased state. For besides the fact that they do not show any marks of corrupt imagination and mind (yea, their words and lives manifest wisdom and a well regulated mind), there is this to be said in addition—that not one or another, but many thought and gave utterance to the same thing. Hence it follows that there is no reason for saying that they were deceived.

The devices Satan uses again and again in revival are spiritual pride and a neglect of Scripture for the pursuit of esoteric, spiritual experiences.

Satan’s purpose for spreading falsehoods is not just for the sake of being evil. Nor is it to momentarily deceive or mislead. Satan’s eye is on a bigger trophy—the souls of the unsaved.

Because of this craftiness, Satan sought to deceive Eve by subtly changing God’s name. When he spoke to Eve, we read, “And he said to the woman, ‘Indeed, has God said, “You shall not eat from any tree of the garden”?’ ” (Genesis 3:1). In removing the name Lord (Jehovah) from before God, Satan pulled a sales trick on Eve. He sought to deceive her by hiding God’s relational nature and thus the relational impact of the deed he was trying to get her to commit. With the name Lord (Jehovah) still in the question, Satan would be reminding Eve through his own words about God’s position as absolute master over both Adam and Eve. Yet he didn’t use Jehovah, and even when Eve replied, she neglected to call God by the name He had used to make Himself known.

God is the author of the Truth that empowers us. Satan is the author of the deception that imprisons us. And once he’s isolated us and imprisoned us, his plan is to destroy us. There is no freedom in sin. There is a quickly fading thrill with sparks and fireworks, but then darkness envelopes, and you realize the party is in a prison cell. Anything that doesn’t line up with Truth is a lie. And where there is a lie, the enemy is at work. The longer he can keep someone deceived, the more their flesh will scream for pleasure, and soon they will become slaves to the most depraved versions of their desires. These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of the flesh, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.” (2 Peter 2:17–19)

Through defects in the character, Satan works to gain control of the whole mind, and he knows that if these defects are cherished, he will succeed. Therefore he is constantly seeking to deceive the followers of Christ with his fatal sophistry that it is impossible for them to overcome. But Jesus pleads in their behalf His wounded hands, His bruised body; and He declares to all who would follow Him: "My grace is sufficient for thee." Corinthians 12:9. "Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light." Matthew 11:29, 30. Let none, then, regard their defects as incurable. God will give faith and grace to overcome them.
