I began praying intensely-- every night-- about my struggle with fear, asking God to set me free from its power in my life. It seemed like each night, I gained a little more strength to release a little more fear. As I began to give up fear to Him, new levels of confidence and courage came to me every single night. It was not a sudden breakthrough, or a realization that I was not as afraid as I used to be. It was something I saturated in ongoing prayer.

If you know you need to take some kind of risk, then get your relationship with God strong and go for it. You will never know what you could have or experience in life unless you try. God made you an original. That means you are really special, and He has a really special plan for your life. You may have to risk something that currently feels secure in order to go after that plan, but with God's help, you may end up in an awesome situation if you'll just take the chance.

A lot of times when we struggle with something, our prayer life becomes simply a plea for God to change our situation. But sometimes we’re in that situation for a reason. And rather than God getting us out of it, we need Him to meet us in it.

When a scary thought first works its way into your brain, you have a choice. You can camp out on that thought in your mind, like my Two-Mama says not to do. Or you can deal with it right away to keep it from becoming bigger and scarier than it already is.

I want to make this point: it’s not that things aren’t scary. They are, and they will continue to be. But each of us has to come to a deep, personal realization that God has already conquered fear—and by the power of His Spirit we can live completely free from fear.

Gaining victory over fear does not mean that we can only be free from fear when something we think will be bad turns out to be okay, like my supposed blue nevus. One of them is: ‘Quit camping out in your mind.’ Camping out in your mind simply means focusing on a certain thought, usually a negative one, and staying there—like you pitch tents in a campsite. That indicates you aren’t leaving anytime soon. You intend to stay a while and soak up the experience. Camping out around the wrong thoughts never turns out well, and it can lead to real trouble.

Faith and fear both involve belief, and they both involve believing things we cannot see. We all have to choose which side to land on, and my tattoo says to me every day, ‘Sadie, no more thinking something bad is going to happen. You’re no longer on the side of fear; you’re on the side of faith, and you can spend every day of the rest of your life believing God has good things in store for you!

My attitude is that whatever happens, I know God’s behind me. He’s got my back, and He is taking care of me. I know there are situations and groups of people in being a Christian is not popular, and I realize there will be times I will not be accepted into cool things because of my beliefs. I’m okay with that. As long as I am true to God and true to myself, whether or not something is cool is really not important. I have set high standards for my life, and I hope you will do the same.

Let me encourage you to start saying positive things about yourself. Maybe you don’t think you’re the most beautiful person on earth, but you can look at the mirror and say to yourself, ‘I really do have a great smile’ or ‘My hair has been looking great!’ You can even use Bible verses to talk to yourself. Based on Philippians 4:13 (NKJV), you can say, ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’ Or you can use Jeremiah 29:11 and say, ‘Things may be a little tough for me right now, but God knows the plans He has for me, and they are good. He is giving me a hope and a future!’ You get to decide what you say to yourself.

The dirty little secret of social media is that we are often following people who don't have a clear direction in life and may or may not really know who they are. So how in the world could we expect them to help us find who we are?

We're waiting on people who struggle with their own insecurity, jealousy, and self-worth to affirm us in our lives instead of letting the words of our Creator be enough.

Vulnerability is an amazing gift to people who have empathy, who know your heart, and who you can trust. But vulnerability can be dangerous in the hands of those who don't know your heart or care to protect it.

Comparison is never pretty and can easily lead to criticism. We're so in tune with our own flaws and insecurities, and then we fixate on others' flaws in order to feel better about ourselves.

Being seen is the cheapest version of being known; visibility will not fill your heart or nourish your spirit. People want so badly to be seen when their true desire is to be known.

The irony of the double tap is that while the like button has trained us to be likable, it has prevented us from feeling truly loved.

In the Bible, Jesus' disciples knew exactly who they were looking for, and when they found Him, they stopped 'searching' and dropped everything to follow Him. That seems like a wild concept; to just drop your plans in life and follow someone you have never met. But many of us do that all the time without even realizing it. We follow people on social media that we have never met and most likely will never meet, an we begin to change things about ourselves without even realizing we are doing it.

Whatever life you think would be amazing on earth is only the tiniest glimpse of what heaven will be.

Do the words that you speak over yourself align with the belief that you’re wonderfully made? Do the actions that you take every day align with the belief that you are wonderfully made?

You are already loved just as you are. You are already enough just as you are. You are already seen just as you are. You are already known just as you are.

Stop comparing your legs to the person beside you, and just compare your left to your right and use them to their best potential. Stop waiting to see what all your friends are wearing and just wear what you love because you love it! Stop making sure your makeup is on trend and just do it the way that makes you feel confident, and if you do not like to wear makeup, then don’t. When you become confident, you become cool with who you are. And when you’re cool with who you are, you won’t be jealous of anything or anyone around you.

When God has us in a waiting season, there is so much we could be doing and so much He is working on. Sometimes we miss that, though, because we're so frustrated about the fact that we are having to wait!

In you He has created a new, original design for the world to enjoy beholding. Go look around, and you will not find one other piece of creation that looks exactly like you.

We are all just daughters, which makes us sisters. Sisters are not supposed to intimidate each other but invite each other. We aren’t supposed to try to make our sisters feel uncomfortable or less-than; we’re supposed to invite them into our space and help them feel like they belong.
