A recent drawbridge design by Chris Wilkinson Architects in Great Britain took the human eyelid, of all things, for its analogical model (see Fig. 8-4). The curvature of the bridge provides structural stability, just as it does for the eyelid. When the βlidβ is closed, the bridge is down and people and cars can move across it. When a ship approaches, the lid is raised.
