The basic and most fundamental element to business is creating value - creating value for others and making their lives better in some way. If you can do that, put a price on it, communicate it clearly and get it to buyers….. you’re in business.

Every tree in the forest knows about creating value, and about reciprocity and about stewardship. And every tree in the forest knows about profit and about investing and about ROI. This is why I study and learn from nature.

A dysfunctional society is bad for business. If the society you live in is wasteful or destructive or non-inclusive or inefficient.... It's more difficult to manage a business, and there are less business opportunities available. So every entrepreneur should be concerned about social dynamics and broader society.
Hendrith Vanlon Smith Jr.
The key to having a permaculture economy is ensuring that the waste from every one is a resource for another. When every ones waste is a resource for another, interesting truths emerge - no waste exists in the system as a whole, resources become abundant and easily accessible, businesses become generally more profitable, and wealth becomes more widely distributed. This is a circular economy. This is a permaculture economy.

Every problem that we have in society has a suite of relative solutions that are also business opportunities. Agricultural waste is a problem. But solving that problem is a business opportunity. Energy inefficiency is a problem. But solving that problem is a business opportunity. The abusive treatment of animals is a problem. But solving that problem is a business opportunity. Reduced biodiversity is a problem. But solving that problem is a business opportunity. Plastic waste in the ocean is a problem. But solving that problem is a business opportunity. And the list goes on indefinitely. We just have to think creatively and fluidly and we can solve all of these problems that plague Earth and we can grow businesses and earn money and provide for our families in the process.

Investing isn’t a game - It has a substantive impact on the living of life and the development of civilization. It’s not just about stock tickers and opening bells and timing buys and sells to get a quick profit in the gap…. It effects when and where houses are built, the quality of schools, the accessibility of organic food, the price of solar relative to gasoline…. Investments direct the development of civilization.
Hendrith Vanlon Smith Jr.
Money is better when you have more of it. With money, enough is not enough. You should always have more than enough money - an abundance of money. Look at nature, nature never only makes enough of a good thing. It always makes more than enough. And there’s no scarcity or lack. Everything in nature experiences more than enough.

Investing at large scales is where the greatest impact happens. When we’re investing with billions of dollars or trillions of dollars, it’s easier to effect whole systems and implement society-scale results more rapidly and with more efficiency. When you have big objectives, you need big money. We have big objectives at Mayflower-Plymouth and we have a lot of good things to do in the world that’s going to help a lot of people, so we need to be working with big numbers.
Hendrith Vanlon Smith Jr.
At Mayflower-Plymouth, our investment approach is based on Permaculture Economics. We invest based on what we learn from nature and universal principles. We also emphasize the spiritual, ecological and physical impact of our investments. It’s a holistic approach. When you put your money with us, you can rest assured knowing your money is growing, but not at the expense of your values. In fact, you know with us your money is actually making the world a better place because we invest in alignment with natural, spiritual and cosmic law.

It's not about Bitcoin or Ethereum or NFT's... These things have merely shown us what's possible. But the real value is in Cryptography, Blockchain Technology, Cryptocurrency and Smart Contracts - these are the things with the real business implications.

To us, Investing is more than profit.

Investing is a special thing. In terms of functionality, almost anyone can invest. But in terms of achieving the results of long-term profit and sustainable growth, only some people have the talent or skill sets for that. It’s like baseball for example… anyone can swing a bat at a ball. But only a few people make it to the big league, and even fewer become world champs. These days there are so many apps and platforms for individual investing, but that doesn’t mean everyone is achieving good results or ROI. There are great investors, good investors, and bad investors. A professional investor can achieve exponential growth and profit. A professional investor understands markets and industries and can account for both the traditional and the new.
Hendrith Vanlon Smith Jr.
When new things emerge in our world, its best to put some time into researching them and trying to gain an understanding. With that understanding, you're then able to think about and plan for the new business applications for those things and the new ways in which your business may profit from them.
Hendrith Vanlon Smith Jr.
Being a skilled professional at something does not automatically equate to being skilled at leading a business in that same profession. Someone could be a phenomenal hair stylist, but that doesn’t mean that they would be a great manager of a Salon. Business management requires its own skill set separate from being skilled at whatever service or product the business provides.

Money is like water, it’s everywhere. It’s in the ground, it’s in the sky, it’s in the air… it’s everywhere. If you’d like, your wallet or account can be like a rainwater pool where the money is filled up and always flowing. And where you can just put a cup in that pool and drink from it whenever you like and you always have more than enough money because the pool is always full. And there’s a prosperous ecosystem where the money clouds are always passing by and pouring more money in there. That’s a good relationship with money.

Biomimicry is critical in regard to using design as a way to solve problems in business. Biological ecosystems have invented solution after solution to all kinds of problems. The key is to learn to see nature through nature's eyes, and to speak nature's language and then to establish a continuous translation between biological ecosystems and human ecosystems.

As a business owner you should never mix business income with personal income and never mix business expenses with personal expenses. Your business is a separate entity with a life of its own. Your job is to lead and manage that separate entity, not to entangle with it. Entangling with your business will result in chaos. But keeping business and personal separate will facilitate efficiency and reduce stress.
Hendrith Vanlon Smith Jr. (The Wealth Reference Guide: An American Classic)
As cryptocurrency becomes more widespread, we'll have a world where money is easy to access, easy to move, easy to send, easy to receive, and easy to invest.... And we'll be able to do all of this globally. This means for example I can send Eth to my friend in India or my business partner in Panama with ease instantly.

The Decentralization of Finance is really good for humanity. Now that we circumvent can banks, exchanges and brokerages by using smart contracts on the blockchain… every person, every family, and every business will experience more freedom, more liberty, more opportunities, more power, more abundance, and more wealth. So DeFi is a win for humanity.

Because now that we can circumvent banks, exchanges and brokerage companies by using smart contracts on the blockchain… every person, every family, and every business will experience more liberty, more freedom, more opportunities, more abundance, more power, and more wealth. This makes way for more opportunities around financial wellness, permaculture investing, more effective crowdfunding, better ownership and equity arrangements, and more.

Online or offline, virtual reality is an artificial environment that you can enter, and you feel like you’re really there. Virtual Reality involves simulation of any imaginable environment that can be explored and interacted with by a person

Investing is not only for rich people. Look at nature - the small grasses invest just like the big magnolia trees. The wildflowers invest just like the oak trees. Investing is a natural phenomena, a condition of living in natural and efficient systems. It isn’t an exclusive thing. Of course the oak trees are investing on a much larger scale than the wildflowers, but they do not have a monopoly on natural phenomena. So whether you are working with one hundred, one thousand or a few hundred thousand… get investing. But get a professional investor working on your behalf as soon as possible. You can get started at any level, but a professional investor will get you the greatest results. I’d love for that to be Mayflower-Plymouth.

Banks were once an extremely valuable part of the economy and did a lot of good in advancing civilization. Banks played a pivotal role in financing big projects like roads, bridges, factories, stadiums, etc. Banks were to the economy what the heart is to the human body. But that has ended. Traditional banks have become extra toxic entities in the economy. It’s partially the fault of excessive government regulations that have made everything dysfunctional and it’s partially the fault of greedy bankers putting profits above customers and shareholders above society... But nonetheless, banks today offer very little benefit to their clients. They pay barely anything in interest. They offer barely anything in growth. They move money too slowly. They’re too restrictive. They’re selling the same boring products and services they did a hundred years ago. And they have too much power over peoples accounts. Soon, the many new companies and applications that emerge on the Ethereum infrastructure will eliminate the need for traditional banks and eliminate their value proposition by providing people with superior value. Everything from growth to asset management to lending can be done even better on the Ethereum infrastructure by anyone.

L’hotel dovrebbe rispondere a questi commenti?

Simone Puorto (Hotel Distribution 2050.
All technologically-enhanced realities are, de facto, XR. It can be a digital overlay placed over what we can see and experience in the physical world (a simple Snapchat filter, for example), VR roller coasters, or Pokémon GO. Whenever we're not (only) dealing with the physical world, we're in the metaverse.
Simone Puorto
Thinking of the metaverse as simple VR is like looking at a good pizza and thinking you're about to eat a raw tomato.
Simone Puorto
Interoperability is the biggest challenge for brands trying to enter the metaverse. The risk of betting in the wrong m-world and being left empty-handed in five years is real. Interoperability of platforms is not a prerequisite for the metaverse, but without it, we'll end up working in silos with the same (disastrous) Web 2.0's paradigm. We must make sure that environments, objects, avatars, NFTs, avatar skins, etc. can be moved from one platform to the other. I should be able to play Axie Infinity, sell my Axie on OpenSea, get paid in Ethereum, buy an avatar skin in Minecraft, and then wear it in Decentraland. That's the central concept of decentralization (and the core idea of Web 3.0). Are we there yet? Definitely not.

NFT, Web 3.0, blockchain, decentralizzazione, DAO, DeFi… Tutto questo è metaverso. La realtà virtuale è un pezzetto infinitesimale.
Simone Puorto
To a certain extent, NFTs will likely be the bridge to the metaverse. For now, however, MΞMORIED, The Emotional Journey, and THE EXPERIENTIAL IN BETWEEN are nothing more than Marriott getting its foot in the metaverse door. However, it's still quite an interesting mentality shift. We'll probably see more exciting technology adoptions in the next three to five years, but this is a cool start, nonetheless.
Simone Puorto
An early incarnation of the metaverse can already be seen in gaming, one of the most (if not the most) immersive digital industries in the world, so if you're into video games, the whole concept may not be entirely new to you. Fitness is another industry where both VR and AR have been used quite heavily in recent years, so it would not be surprising that the foundations of the metaverse could emerge from these industries. Moreover, applications of VR/AR have been massively democratized recently. But let's not kid ourselves: this journey will go on for decades. First of all, the metaverse needs some infrastructures that not only do not exist today, but the whole Internet landscape has not been originally created to support such a revolutionary platform. Moreover, we will need standards and protocols (possibly from day one) exactly as we have for the Internet today, and -because of the complexity of the metaverse- this could take years. Not to mention the privacy and regulation concerns that building the metaverse can trigger. At this stage, therefore, any prediction on how the metaverse will look won't be much more than pure speculation, and the risk that the "hype" turns into "a bubble" is quite tangible.
Simone Puorto
The metaverse is far from being just VR. The metaverse, conceptually, is not Fornite, Minecraft, or The Sims. It's not an Instagram filter that turns you into a unicorn. It's not a Black Mirror episode, either. It's a new way to interact with reality(ies), being real-life, AR, VR, or MR. But, more interesting, the metaverse can (and probably will) be a fully functioning economy. How this will affect travel is still largely unknown, and even though I can foresee some of the Metaverse applications, the "hows and whys" are still nebulous.
Simone Puorto
In everyday conversation, when we refer to an event that happens "after" something else, we use the Latin prefix "post." "Meta" sounds more exotic, but it's just its Greek counterpart. However, the Hellenic prefix is slightly more nuanced, as it also means "about." So, when defining a meta-universe (a meta-verse), we have to consider both connotations of the term: a universe "beyond" the one we currently inhabit and one that's also self-referral. A post-universe. A meta-universe. In a word: a metaverse.
Simone Puorto
Want to visit the Ciudad Perdida, Atlantis, or Ancient Rome? You can travel back in time and experience something you can no longer do in the physical world (aka the "meat space"). Wanna check another planet out? Yup. Inspect your meeting room two weeks before the actual congress? Sure! Can the metaverse help persons with reduced mobility (PRM) take that trip they always dreamt of? You bet. The "embodied internet" is virgin territory for the hospitality industry (for any industry, for that matter), and we're still in the embryo stage of the technology.
Simone Puorto
Simone Puorto
I am not a big fan of the word "metaverse." The term comes from a highly dystopic cyberpunk novel from the '90s. The book is filled with Mafia, drug dealers, mercenaries, and an economic collapse. Not really the rainbows, butterflies, and unicorns narrative most anarcho-capitalists are feeding us...
Simone Puorto
Virtual reality usually comes to mind when we picture the metaverse, but that's only one part of the equation, and -probably- not even the most interesting one.
Simone Puorto
Everyone seems to suffer from "metaverse FOMO" right now. To a certain extent, it's like the mid-'90s all over again. During the internet boom, companies that added a ".com" suffix to their names (even though they had nothing to do with the Internet) experienced abnormal returns in terms of stock value. That's precisely what is happening with any brand with the words crypto, blockchain, metaverse, or Web3 attached to it.
Simone Puorto
As of today, there's no such thing as THE metaverse. Instead, there are many metaverses and walled garden platforms. More than the metaverse, what we're experiencing today is a multiverse.
Simone Puorto
At some point, almost overnight, everyone started talking about the metaverse. It was suddenly treated like the Next Big Thing, even though most of the central blocks of the metaverse (digital twins, iCommerce, Business-to-Avatar advertising, etc.) have been around for years. To make things worse, it makes no sense to me to see a bunch of experts talking ABOUT the metaverse in a 2D environment. It's like talking about the Internet possibilities over a fax machine.
Simone Puorto
The metaverse is evolutionary, not revolutionary. It will unlikely replace traveling tout-court, but it will definitely play a role in it, especially in the early, top-funnel touchpoints of the traveler's journey. Currently, we pick a hotel founding our decision based on photos, videos, and reviews only, while the metaverse could provide a more immersive experience, and allow us to immerse in a destination, book a hotel room or a restaurant table while sitting at our couch, and -eventually- live the experience in the physical world. It's what I call "travel research on steroids." No static image, 2D video, or website will ever be able to deliver a comparable experience. It's the next level of the "try before you buy" concept. And, quite frankly, we're just scratching the surface.
Simone Puorto
The metaverse is not virtual. That's the false narrative I am trying to correct. The metaverse is, if anything, phygital. Customers increasingly jump between physical and digital realms in the journey to making a purchase. Until we overcome this binary mental scheme, we'll never grasp the essence of the metaverse.
Simone Puorto
It's time we reconsider what we (think) we know about the concept of reality. For alpha generation kids, playing Roblox with an avatar 1,000 km away one day and hide-and-seek in the physical world the day after, is pretty much the same experience. At a closer look, reality is simply a form of consensus among individuals.
