[Poe] started to turn away, the stopped, smiled a little, ducked his head, and reached into his back pocket. "Amy, here." He tossed me a small package. "Just in case." I looked down at my hand. Life savers.
Diana Peterfreund (Rites of Spring (Break) (Secret Society Girl, #3))
I became an ifrit to save the lives of my fellow jinn. What kind of life saver would I be if I let you sit here and wither away in paradise?” Just an obstacle. Just an obstacle. I meet the ifrit’s eyes. “What happened to all your talk about birds and fish having nowhere to live?” The ifrit shrugs. “I suggest you start holding your breath, my friend,” he says, then pushes through the hearing room doors.

And all I could do while I listened to this dude tell me how punk rock saved his life was think, Wow. Why did my friend waste all that time going to chemotherapy? I guess we should have just played him a bunch of shitty Black Flag records.

The victim, if he really loved the saver, would say, “Look, this is my problem; you don’t have to fix it for me. Just support me while I fix it myself.” That would actually be a demonstration of love: taking responsibility for your own problems and not holding your partner responsible for them. If the saver really wanted to save the victim, the saver would say, “Look, you’re blaming others for your own problems; deal with this yourself.” And in a sick way, that would actually be a demonstration of love: helping someone solve their own problems. Rearview Mirror Syndrome One of the most crippling causes of mediocrity in life is a condition I call Rearview Mirror Syndrome (RMS). Our subconscious minds are equipped with a self-limiting rearview mirror, through which we continuously relive and recreate our past. We mistakenly believe that who we were is who we are, thus limiting our true potential in the present, based on the limitations of our past.   As a result, we filter every choice we make—from what time we will wake up in the morning to which goals we will set to what we allow ourselves to consider possible for our lives—through the limitations of our past experiences. We want to create a better life, but sometimes we don’t know how to see it any other way than how it’s always been.   Research shows that on any given day, the average person thinks somewhere between 50,000 and 60,000 thoughts. The problem is that ninety-five percent of our thoughts are the same as the ones we thought the day before, and the day before that, and the day before that. It’s no wonder most people go through life, day after day, month after month, year after year, and never change the quality of their lives.   Like old, worn baggage, we carry stress, fear, and worry from yesterday with us into today. When presented with opportunities, we quickly check our rearview mirror to assess our past capabilities. “No, I’ve never done anything like that before. I’ve never achieved at that level. In fact, I’ve failed, time and time again.”   When presented with adversity, we go back to our trusty rearview mirror for guidance on how to respond. “Yep, just my luck. This crap always happens to me. I’m just going to give up; that’s what I’ve always done when things get too difficult.”   If you are to move beyond your past and transcend your limitations, you must stop living out of your rearview mirror and start imagining a life of limitless possibilities. Accept the paradigm:  my past does not equal my future. Talk to yourself in a way that inspires confidence that not only is anything possible, but that you are capable and committed to making it so. It’s not even necessary to believe it at first. In fact, you probably won’t believe it. You might find it uncomfortable and that you resist doing it. That’s okay. Repeat it to yourself anyway, and your subconscious mind will begin to absorb the positive self-affirmations. (More on how to do this in Chapter 6:  The Life S.A.V.E.R.S.)   Don’t place unnecessary limitations on what you want for your life. Think bigger than you’ve allowed yourself to think up until this point. Get clear on what you truly want, condition yourself to the belief that it’s possible by focusing on and affirming it every day, and then consistently move in the direction of your vision until it becomes your reality. There is nothing to fear, because you cannot fail—only learn, grow, and become better than you’ve ever been before.   Always remember that where you are is a result of who you were, but where you go depends entirely on who you choose to be, from this moment on.

So, for example, Bell is mesmerized by a screen saver that draws on his personal archive to display random snapshots. Pictures of long-ago birthdays and family trips trigger waves of nostalgia. But during my visit, Bell tries to use search tools to find a particular photograph that is not coming up on the screen. He pursues one strategy, then another. Nothing works; he loses interest. One senses a new dynamic: when you depend on the computer to remember the past, you focus on whatever past is kept on the computer. And you learn to favor whatever past is easiest to find. My screen saver, my life.

I live for your bibingka. I thought I was doomed when I found out that I had celiac disease and couldn't have gluten anymore. My life was pastries. But this Joey, gooey, coconutty rice flour cake saved me. All the sweetness and satisfaction I crave from a pastry, but without the gluten. I'll love you forever for introducing me to it.

A small tear fell down my cheek as I thought about Henry and what was happening. I was losing him and I was afraid the only way to keep him from falling out of my life was tossing him my heart as a life saver and I wasn’t so sure I would be able to recover if he broke it.

FOR MY FINANCES... What’s the ONE Thing I can do to increase my net worth... ? What’s the ONE Thing I can do to improve my investment cash flow... ? What’s the ONE Thing I can do to eliminate my credit card debt... ? BIG IDEAS So how do you make The ONE Thing part of your daily routine? How do you make it strong enough to get extraordinary results at work and in the other areas of your life? Here’s a starter list drawn from our experience and our work with others. Understand and believe it. The first step is to understand the concept of the ONE Thing, then to believe that it can make a difference in your life. If you don’t understand and believe, you won’t take action. Use it. Ask yourself the Focusing Question. Start each day by asking, “What’s the ONE Thing I can do today for [whatever you want] such that by doing it everything else will be easier or even unnecessary?” When you do this, your direction will become clear. Your work will be more productive and your personal life more rewarding. Make it a habit. When you make asking the Focusing Question a habit, you fully engage its power to get the extraordinary results you want. It’s a difference maker. Research says this will take about 66 days. Whether it takes you a few weeks or a few months, stick with it until it becomes your routine. If you’re not serious about learning the Success Habit, you’re not serious about getting extraordinary results. Leverage reminders. Set up ways to remind yourself to use the Focusing Question. One of the best ways to do this is to put up a sign at work that says, “Until my ONE Thing is done—everything else is a distraction.” We designed the back cover of this book to be a trigger —set it on the corner of your desk so that it’s the first thing you see when you get to work. Use notes, screen savers, and calendar cues to keep making the connection between the Success Habit and the results you seek. Put up reminders like, “The ONE Thing = Extraordinary Results” or “The Success Habit Will Get Me to My Goal.” Recruit support. Research shows that those around you can influence you tremendously. Starting a success support group with some of your work colleagues can help inspire all of you to practice the Success Habit every day. Get your family involved. Share your ONE Thing. Get them on board. Use the Focusing Question around them to show them how the Success Habit can make a difference in their school work, their personal achievements, or any other part of their lives.

☎️+1(888) 429 1540 ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 Life happens—your plans shift, the weather flips, or you just need more time to pack. Moving your British Airways flight to a future date isn’t just possible, it’s totally chill. The easiest way? Give them a quick ring at ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 ☎️+1(888) 429 1540. No bots, no endless menus, just real people who know exactly how to reschedule your trip. Whether you’re pushing it back by a week or a month, they’ll walk you through options, fees (if any), and new seat choices. Want to swap that Tuesday flight for next Friday? Done. Need to delay your whole vacation? ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 is your shortcut to stress-free changes. You’ve got flexibility—you just need to pick up the phone. Can I delay my British Airways flight to a later date? Yes, you can push your flight to a future date without losing your ticket value. Just call ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 and tell them your original booking number and the new date you want. They’ll check availability across all flights matching your route and class. If there’s space, they’ll move you over—no problem. Sometimes there’s a small change fee, sometimes not—it depends on your fare type. Flexible tickets? Usually free. Super-saver deals? Might cost a bit, but still way cheaper than canceling and rebuying. They’ll also show you price differences—if your new date is pricier, you pay the gap; if it’s cheaper, you get credit toward future travel. Calling ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 means you skip the confusing website steps and get straight answers. They’ll even help you pick better seats on your new flight. Pro tip: Try shifting midweek instead of weekends—flights are usually lighter and cheaper. And if you’re flying internationally, double-check visa timelines so your new date still works. Don’t wait till the last minute—calling ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 gives you room to breathe, plan, and actually enjoy your trip when it finally happens. Can I change my flight date without paying extra? Sometimes! It all comes down to your ticket type. If you booked a flexible fare—like “Flex” or “Plus”—you can often switch dates with zero fees. Even some standard fares allow one free change if done far enough ahead. But if you snagged a super-cheap deal, there might be a small adjustment cost. That’s normal. Still, calling ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 helps you find hidden loopholes. Agents know when airlines open up empty seats at no extra charge, especially during low-demand seasons. Maybe your original flight was packed, but the same route next week has room—and no price bump. They’ll spot it. Also, if you’re a loyalty member, you might get free date changes as a perk. Even if you’re not, ask nicely—they can sometimes waive fees for valid reasons like illness, family emergencies, or travel restrictions. Calling ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 gets you personalized advice, not a robotic reply. Plus, if you’re changing by less than 24 hours before departure, you might still qualify for a free move under certain conditions. Don’t assume you’re stuck. Always ask. You never know what they can do until you try. Can I move my flight to a different city? Not directly. You can’t switch from London to Paris just because you changed your mind. But here’s the hack: Call ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 and ask if you can cancel your current booking and rebook elsewhere. Depending on your ticket rules, you might get a travel credit you can use for a brand-new flight to a totally different destination. It’s not a simple date change—but it’s close. They’ll calculate how much value you have left from your original ticket and apply it to something new. You’ll likely pay the difference if the new flight costs more. But if you’re flexible, you could score a sweet deal on an alternate route. Calling ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 lets you
