It is a bit of a clichΓ© to characterize life as a rambling journey on which we can alter our course at any given time--by the slightest turn of the wheel, the wisdom goes, we influence the chain of events and thus recast our destiny with new cohorts, circumstances, and discoveries. But for the most of us, life is nothing like that. Instead, we have a few brief periods when we are offered a handful of discrete options. Do I take this job or that job? In Chicago or New York? Do I join this circle of friends or that one, and with whom do I go home at the end of the night? And does one make time for children now? Or later? Or later still?
In that sense, life is less like a journey than it is a game of honeymoon bridge. In our twenties, when there is still so much time ahead of us, time that seems ample for a hundred indecisions, for a hundred visions and revisions--we draw a card, and we must decide right then and there whether to keep that card and discard the next, or discard the first card and keep the second. And before we know it, the deck has been played out and the decisions we have just made shape our lives for decades to come.

In Europe they think it is a bit barbaric, this way to look for a wife," Mohammad says to his hands, which have not stopped fidgeting since we sat down. It is so easy to⦠how do you call it⦠act as some other person. I had one German girlfriend, for two years were we together and only have I seen some sides of her, very good and kind, but only the outside, fun and happy, I could not see who was she in earnest. It was always something for showing other people.

Our prayer life and rule of prayer will be shaped by the different stages of our spiritual journey as well. Many people who have just come to know Christ find that their words flow easily. Prayer is a joy for them. But, as with romantic relationships, there is a natural movement beyond this honeymoon phase. When feelings of intense connection with God ebb, we have a new opportunity to engage God - not based on cool spiritual vibes but as an expression of our genuine love for God. Times of spiritual dryness are normal for almost everyone, even if we haven't sinned and to the best of our knowledge haven't done anything to wall off our relationship with God. God may allow this dryness so that we can mature in our relationship with him and learn to seek him not for an ecstatic spiritual experience but out of a deeper love and commitment.

Then, just as we were to leave on a whirlwind honeymoon in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, a call came from Australia. Steveβs friend John Stainton had word that a big croc had been frequenting areas too close to civilization, and someone had been taking potshots at him.
βItβs a big one, Stevo, maybe fourteen or fifteen feet,β John said over the phone. βI hate to catch you right at this moment, but theyβre going to kill him unless he gets relocated.β
John was one of Australiaβs award-winning documentary filmmakers. He and Steve had met in the late 1980s, when Steve would help John shoot commercials that required a zoo animal like a lizard or a turtle. But their friendship did not really take off until 1990, when an Australian beer company hired John to film a tricky shot involving a crocodile.
He called Steve. βThey want a bloke to toss a coldie to another bloke, but a croc comes out of the water and snatches at it. The guy grabs the beer right in front of the crocβs jaws. You think thatβs doable?β
βSure, mate, no problem at all,β Steve said with his usual confidence. βOnly one thing, it has to be my hand in front of the croc.β
John agreed. He journeyed up to the zoo to film the commercial. It was the first time he had seen Steve on his own turf, and he was impressed. He was even more impressed when the croc shoot went off flawlessly.
Monty, the saltwater crocodile, lay partially submerged in his pool. An actor fetched a coldie from the esky and tossed it toward Steve. As Steveβs hand went above Montyβs head, the crocodile lunged upward in a food response. On film it looked like the croc was about to snatch the can--which Steve caught right in front of his jaws. John was extremely impressed. As he left the zoo after completing the commercial shoot, Steve gave him a collection of VHS tapes.
Steve had shot the videotapes himself. The raw footage came from Steve simply propping his camera in a tree, or jamming it into the mud, and filming himself single-handedly catching crocs.
John watched the tapes when he got home to Brisbane. He told me later that what he saw was unbelievable. βIt was three hours of captivating film and I watched it straight through, twice,β John recalled to me. βIt was Steve. The camera loved him.β
He rang up his contacts in television and explained that he had a hot property. The programmers couldnβt use Steveβs original VHS footage, but one of them had a better idea. He gave John the green light to shoot his own documentary of Steve.
That led to John Staintonβs call to Oregon on the eve of our honeymoon.
βI know itβs not the best timing, mate,β John said, βbut we could take a crew and film a documentary of you rescuing this crocodile.β
Steve turned to me. Honeymoon or crocodile? For him, it wasnβt much of a quandary. But what about me?β
βLetβs go,β I replied.

...spiritual dryness is not a problem. It only seems a problem because it's such a contrast with the good feelings of the honeymoon stage. ...this night will continue to go on, often getting worse, throughout our life. But if we persevere in our spiritual journey, we will be able to perceive in it positive meaning and learn to understand it. Then we can move beyond it to the freedom that places our feelings in proper perspective.

Teen age is the period for young folks to be tender and be thought or be trivial and embrace temptation. It is a season for them to be empowered or endangered, encouraged or embattled dependent on their choices. It is a stage for them to either be natured or be naughty dependent on their readiness and preparedness. It is an era where they are to adore God or admire evil with their all in all. A moment of grace and glory or guilt and gory for their families and society as a result of impacts they received; and timeless celebration of Eternal God or enduring shame for generations on based on their clear choices. Whichever path a teenage choices have its blessings and rewards or its dangers and subsequent sufferings. Through our teens we aged either into foolish folks or wise and responsible adults.

After years of yearning to see beyond the borders of her provincial little town, the thought of journeying someplace new, even if it was only to show her father's invention at a neighboring village's fair, made her heart race.
Maybe she would encounter a merry theater troupe on their way to perform the latest play. Or maybe merchants traveling with their wares to trade on the Silk Road. Oh, wouldn't it be wonderful to meet a newly married couple heading to Paris or Verona to celebrate their honeymoon? Who knew what types of adventures awaited her!

They lean into each other, entwine arms and legs, innocently, affectionately, and I look at them, their identical eyes and smiles, and try to imagine the divergence of their lives. Mitra marrying at fourteen, while her cousin begins life in England. Mitra leaving school to have children while Farah studies, learns English, grows up in London, maybe goes on to university. I stare into the soft faces of those girls and try to imagine them meeting again, ten years from now. Farah will return for a visit. She will wear fashionable clothes and will wear a chaador with disdain. She will speak a refined English and will fit awkwardly into her mother tongue; it will no longer hold her. She will have developed a taste for philosophy over coffee, will have grown used to speaking her mind, will have had many friendships and a heartbreak that will have left her unsettled but independent, will have become successful, enviable.
She and Mitra will gasp when they see each other after all these years. They will hug and separate and hug and separate and kiss each other on the cheek again and again. Then they will sit across from each other staring, wondering how the other one got so old. Mitra will have four children; no, five; and will wear this, them, in her face. Her arms will be thick, strong, her hands calloused, and she will cry easily, not because she is sad, but because her emotions will not live behind her mind. Farah will be shocked to see her old friend and will think it pathetic, her life, all these children, this cooking and praying and serving; this waste. The visit will be pleasant but awkward, forced in a way neither of them expected. Farah will find an excuse to spend the rest of her holiday in Tehran and will return to England without seeing Mitra again. They will be cousins always but never friends, because each will have a wisdom the other cannot understand.
The girls stare at me, waiting for an answer.
"Yes," I say, "You will both be happy.

As is the case with many portraits, their truth is not in their detail, but their spirit.

However, far worse, is the teacher who can only take sincere spiritual seekers half-way to their goal, like a used-car salesman who sells a young couple on the way to their honeymoon a car that the salesman knows will break down long before they reach their honeymoon cottage. Too many people today are looking for some mechanical or technological solution, when the answer is found in the subtle marriage of spirituality and science. Many spiritual masters have already made the journey to the center of the galaxy through manipulating consciousness.

In the days of old, when one married, they're given a breathing space to bond with each other for days or weeksβfree from many activities. They're treated with kindness, affections and loveβeven offered with many services as in house chores and others. This was (is) not an European thing.
In the Bible, God told the Israelites not to allow a man who has married to go for war. He's to stay home for a year for certain activities.
In our era, we referred to the above scenario as Honeymoon.
Now the questions:
βAre we to go or not to?
βIs it beneficial or not?
βIs it a money wasting venture or not?
βIs it part of the marriage preparation or not?
βDoes it do anything to the marriage or not?
βAnd above all, what is its essence for us(family or humanity), couples and posterity?

The reason why children are seen as children is because they have not been resourced to show their worth beyond what is seen in them. Aside material resources, parents should train their children to appreciate values, independence and accept responsibilities before they become adults
