Förresten hade pappan börjat tänka på ett alldeles nytt sätt. Hoe leg je uit wat weerloosheid is en tot wat een mens in staat kan zijn als uw toehoorder nooit heeft gevoeld wat het is om zelf een mogelijke smeerlap te zijn, dat het een zegen is en een vloek dat nooit te hebben gevoeld en dat woede in de fauteuil niks meer is dan schijnheiligheid die blind is voor zichzelf? Voor ge de bloeddorst van een ander aanklaagt, van iemand die ge zelfs niet kent, zoudt ge verplicht moeten worden te ervaren wat heimelijke bloeddorst betekent die wordt aangemoedigd door hen die de touwtjes in handen hebben, wier spel gij meespeelt, of ge nu wilt of niet, de bloeddorst, met andere woorden, die ieder in zich heeft.

Om te worden opgemerkt, om over u te horen spreken, moet ge iets maken waarmee zich elk moment de zedenpolitie kan bemoeien. En daar de zedenpolitie zich makkelijk met iets moeit - ge moet maar uw tante of uw schoonmoeder klacht laten neerleggen en het is al van dat - hebt ge het niet zo lastig een roman te schrijven die aangeslagen wordt, een toneelstuk te laten opvoeren dat verboden wordt of een expositie in te richten waar uw schilderijen aangeslagen worden. Fighting against humans, to gain stability, and fighting against the heavens, to open your own destiny. This is what I believed. But, I finally understand... If I hadn't fought, those that I called my father and brothers, would still be alive. At the very least, they would not have needed to lose their lives. If I hadn't fought, even if I wouldn't have been able to save my best friend. She would not have been driven to take her own life. If I hadn't fought, my friends would not have bet everything they had on me, and end up in a perilous place themselves... I don't even know if they're alive. So this is what it means to be on the path of 'Inactivity'.
