My initial impression of her had been totally wrong. Rumours of war had seemed so distant that neither of them had doubted that they would meet again in a few months.

The message I've gotten about guys who like guys and girls is that we're faking, that we couldn't possibly be attracted to girls if we're attracted to boys. Bi girls get the same thing, but for them it means they're perceived as straight and for us it means we're perceived as gay.

Did you know that some people think that just putting books with queer characters into schools will make kids queer? If being a boy or a girl is so built into us at birth — if it’s not something we learn from everyone around us — then what are a few books going to do to change that? I don’t think you can make anyone into anything unless the pieces were there to start with.
