A lot of people feel that way. That if you didn’t pay your dues by being ostracized then you’re not *really* a geek. I don’t think that though. It’s not an exclusive club that you need to pay some social price to get in. Being a geek is about loving something passionately beyond all reason or sense. And it need not necessarily be related to science fiction, fantas, superheroes, etcetera. You can be a gardening geek, a model train geek, stamp collecting geek, a baby geek… It’s about enthusiasm, in my opinion. From his blog RE: Thirty years of D&D

Poncho was in a red mood slanging with rage and needed to cook himself out of it , while shoving handfuls of salted peanuts down his gullet and slurping ice cold Fanta

Jacob: 'So have you heard that in seventy years there won't be any gingers left on Earth?' Jules: 'Really? Huh. Nature. Awesome.' Sam: 'Actually, it's not true. It was some bogus report cooked up by a hair-dye company to get some extra press.' Jacob: 'Sure it was, Fanta-pants.' Ava: 'He's right. The recessive gene that causes red hair is totally able to skip generations, so redheads won't die out due to genetics.' Sam: 'Thank you, Ava. It's nice to know that someone around here is sensible.' Ava: 'Of course, redheads might become extinct because they find it so hard to get laid...

I was with my tribe of tri-Delt sorority girls, and we were all having sex with mermen. It was nice feeling, like I was part of something larger than myself.

Jacks tore at another piece of bread. 'I don't ever come here. The Hollow used to be my home.' His eyes turned a bleak shade of blue. Evangeline felt the urge to say she was sorry, but she wasn't sure what for. All she knew was that her heart had cracked when he'd said the word home. What had happened to change things? How had he turned from a boy with a family and friends in to a Fate? And why did he no longer want to come here? To her, the Hollow felt warm and wonderful, but it clearly didn't to Jacks. 'When was the last time you were here?' 'Right after I became a Fate.' Jacks countenance shifted as soon as the words were out. It was like watching a spell break apart. The fire crackled and the tavern grew hotter as Jack's entire body tensed. He dropped the bread, hardened his jaw, narrowed his eyes on Evangeline, then slowly lowered his stormy gaze to the chain around her neck. And this time, he didn't ask if it was a a gift from Luc. 'I think you've been naughty, Little Fox.' He made a tsking sound with his tongue. 'Where did you find the truth stone?

News came of Beni Beni, the madman of Wimbe, who'd always made us laugh in better times. He'd run up to merchants in the trading center with his raving eyes and snatch cakes and Fantas from their stalls. No one ever took them away because his hands were always so filthy. The mad people had always depended on others to care for them, but now there were none. Beni Beni died at the church.

Jamie Smart has gone home and Adrian sits on the curb at the edge of the field, the bike propped against a lamppost. He can see the back garden. He’s drinking a can of Fanta. He’s feeling pretty good. He’s six years old. A van pulls up. The worried-looking driver gets out and jogs across the quiet road. He said, “Mate—what’s your name?

I had a dream where I was in a place that served steak and mashed potatoes and the soup! The pasta soup was heavenly even better than my mother’s homemade recipe. Every spoonful of the soup reminded me of the sun. The mashed potatoes were so smooth that they could slide down my gullet. The steak was medium-rare, my favorite, and every bite reminded me of the steak my mom made but it was one hundred and one times better.  And there was also iced tea and every sip of it felt refreshing like a cold, winter morning with the sun shining merrily and my mom and I throwing snowballs at each other. I  ate and drank until I could eat no more. I felt as if my stomach was about to combust. But then in came the tiramisu. It was better than anything I had ever tasted. The rich smell of coffee wafted up from it. It reminded me of the coffee shop my mom went to when I was little. Despite the fact that my stomach was about to explode I managed to fit in three more slices of tiramisu before I could eat no more. But then came the Ice cream. It was my favorite flavor, mango. The ice cream was silky and sweet. It was like I was on a sunny June morning, a ray of sunlight shining in my face. The sensation intensified as mango juice dribbled down my chin like sunlight itself. I managed six scoops before I was sure my belly would explode. Every moment of eating the ice cream was sunsational. Finally came the float. It was vanilla ice cream on top of some Fanta even though my mom insisted root beer was one hundred times better. It tasted amazing. It was like the early spring making our ice crack in the pond on which my mother and I go ice skating every winter. It was happy but also sad at the same time as if my old life called back for me.

The Fanta has a nasty, synthetic edge. She wonders why she bought it. The tabloid doesn’t go down any better, seemingly composed in equal measure of shame and rage, as though some inflamed national subtext were being ritually, painfully massaged, for whatever temporary and paradoxical relief this might afford.
William Gibson (Pattern Recognition (Blue Ant, #1))
North America and Europe have always had a porous border when it comes to culture (the US sends us Hollywood movies, we send them cheese that isn’t the colour of Fanta, tit for tat).

Have you even known it, professor – that terrifying intensity, that feeling as if you yourself have undergone some kind of alchemy, been purified, made wholly virtuous? The brilliance of that moment, the dazzling purity of conscience. It’s possible that the kids who stayed behind at the Provincial Office that day experienced something similar. Perhaps they would have considered even death a fair exchange for that jewel of conscience. But no such certainty is possible now. Kids crouching beneath the windows, fumbling with their guns and complaining that they were hungry, asking if it was okay for them to quickly run back and fetch the sponge cake and Fanta they’d left in the conference room; what could they possibly have known about death that would have enabled them to make such a choice?

Möchtest du was trinken? Wasser, Fanta, Kaffee... Bourbon?' Hinter dem großen Schnauzer konnte man seinen Mund nur erahnen, aber seine Augen hinter den ovalen Brillengläsern lächelten, als er mir ein Glas reichte. 'Willst du mich zum Alkoholiker machen?

Zainab and Funmi were the striking beauties of the trio – ‘Coke and Fanta’ people would joke when they would see the three of them walking together on campus. That Enitan never got a nickname was a slight she was used to. ‘You attract beauty,’ a boy had told her once, but he had meant this quite literally; she attracted beauty only in the sense that she herself was not beautiful but her two best friends were.
