Many people object to “wasting money in space” yet have no idea how much is actually spent on space exploration. The CSA’s budget, for instance, is less than the amount Canadians spend on Halloween candy every year, and most of it goes toward things like developing telecommunications satellites and radar systems to provide data for weather and air quality forecasts, environmental monitoring and climate change studies. Similarly, NASA’s budget is not spent in space but right here on Earth, where it’s invested in American businesses and universities, and where it also pays dividends, creating new jobs, new technologies and even whole new industries.

While play-acting grim scenarios day in and day out may sound like a good recipe for clinical depression, it’s actually weirdly uplifting. Rehearsing for catastrophe has made me positive that I have the problem-solving skills to deal with tough situations and come out the other side smiling. For me, this has greatly reduced the mental and emotional clutter that unchecked worrying produces, those random thoughts that hijack your brain at three o’clock in the morning.
While I very much hoped not to die in space, I didn’t live in fear of it, largely because I’d been made to think through the practicalities: how I’d want my family to get the news, for instance, and which astronaut I should recruit to help my wife cut through the red tape at NASA and the CSA. Before my last space flight (as with each of the earlier ones) I reviewed my will, made sure my financial affairs and taxes were in order, and did all the other things you’d do if you knew you were going to die. But that didn’t make me feel like I had one foot in the grave. It actually put my mind at ease and reduced my anxiety about what my family’s future would look like if something happened to me. Which meant that when the engines lit up at launch, I was able to focus entirely on the task at hand: arriving alive.

Sadly, psychiatric training still includes far too little on the very serious psychiatric sequelae of childhood trauma, especially CSA [child sexual abuse]. There is inadequate recognition within mental health services of the prevalence and importance of Dissociative Disorders, sufferers of which are frequently misdiagnosed as Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), or, in the cases of DID, schizophrenia.
This is to some extent understandable as some of the features of DID appear superficially to mimic those of schizophrenia and/or Borderline Personality Disorder.

The smart way to be assured of quality organic food is to join a community-sponsored agriculture (CSA) cooperative and buy a share in a local organic farm every year. Every week for an average of twenty-four weeks in the North, and all year round in the South, you share the harvest, which can include fresh vegetables, fruit, and free-range eggs, chicken, and lamb. One of the central questions surrounding the debate on memories of CSA is how often false or repressed memories actually occur. The APA working group (Alpert et al., 1996) and other experts (e.g., Loftus, 1993a) noted that no reliable method can distinguish between accurate and inaccurate memories. Therefore, no one can determine the prevalence of false or repressed memories. Nevertheless, six texts (30%) implied that false memories occur frequently (see Table 1). Of these, three included the opinionated suggestion that a "witch hunt" may be occurring in which innocent parents are routinely accused of, and then severely punished for, CSA. Two texts suggested that false memories of CSA must occur because an entire support group (the FMSF) has been formed for falsely accused parents. These authors apparently failed to consider that some members of the FMSF may actually have sexually assaulted children but are motivated to appear innocent. (85)

In the physical world, you can randomize your vegetables by joining a Community-Supported Agriculture farm, which will deliver a box of produce to you every week. As we saw earlier, a CSA subscription does potentially pose a scheduling problem, but being sent fruits and vegetables you wouldn’t normally buy is a great way to get knocked out of a local maximum in your recipe rotation. Likewise, book-, wine-, and chocolate-of-the-month clubs are a way to get exposed to intellectual, oenophilic, and gustatory possibilities that you might never have encountered otherwise.

This time it was with FIFA, the organization that oversees soccer throughout the world and organizes the Women’s World Cup. FIFA, along with the Canadian Soccer Association, or CSA, planned to put every game of the 2015 Women’s World Cup on artificial turf, something that had never been proposed for a senior World Cup before, including all 20 men’s World Cups prior. Artificial turf has become a necessity in some climates where it’s hard to maintain grass or at venues that need to stand up to constant use. Where natural grass isn’t a viable option, artificial turf is the next-best alternative. But generally, soccer is supposed to be played on natural grass. Players report getting injured more and recovery time taking longer when they play on artificial turf. Some studies have supported this perception, while some have been inconclusive. But when Sydney Leroux posted a photo of her legs covered with bloody scrapes from slide tackling on artificial turf, it was a clear example of why there’s a consensus among soccer players. Kelley O’Hara responded to Leroux’s photo: “You should probs tweet that to FIFA.” It may be less of an issue in other sports, but in soccer, turf can be especially hard on a player’s body.

They brought in players from other national teams around the world, including Germany, Brazil, Mexico, and others to sign a letter asking FIFA and the CSA to reconsider using artificial turf. When that didn’t work, they filed a complaint with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, arguing the decision to play the tournament on artificial turf was gender discrimination under Canadian law. After all, no men’s World Cups had ever been played on artificial turf, and the upcoming men’s tournaments had been planned to be on grass through 2022.

saying you're Abraham Lincoln is a very ineffective way of getting people to play chess with you due to the fact that Abraham Lincoln was actually a very controversial president. The Emancipation Proclamation was actually only effective in the Southern Slave States, so the slave states that were a part of the US were not legally required to release slaves, even though that was the point. Also, his Gettysburg Address is basically telling people that the thousands dying was good for the Union and that they should fight and most likely die too. Third, he chose to let General Grant continue his Overland Campaign, even though he had thrown away tens of thousands of lives, against Congress' wishes.
While the emancipation proclamation freed only Southern slaves, the northern states had already freed theirs, meaning that only the 4 border state kept slave until the end of the war, when Congress freed everybody. Lincoln did free all the slaves, he just didn't want to "punish" the border states, who might have joined to South if he tried to free their slaves too early.
Also, Gettysburg address is "these ppl didn't die for no reason, they did to protect the Union, and what they did made Gettysburg hallowed ground." Unless you believe that the North shouldn't have fought to reunite the union (thereby created the CSA, which had slavery and racism baked into its constitution), there is nothing wrong with this speech.
Finally, Grant was the first and only general on the Eastern Front who could have won the war quickly. All other generals before him were too cautious, too slow, or too incompetant. Even Meade, who won Gettysburg, was unable to chase to Southern army and finish them, ending the war. Grant's attack, attack, attack stategy won the war in less than a year and a half, sadly at the cost of many men.
Actually, Congress, Lincoln, and Johnson fought over this for TEN years via the reconstruction plans. Lincoln's was too ineffective for the Congressmen known as the Radical Republicans, and they tried to impeach Johnson for his even more ineffective plans.
The plans to get all of the South into the Union again were due to Radical Reconstruction, which only happened in the South, making the northern slave states not required. :3

Community-supported enterprise: The community-supported enterprise model is well established in the realm of agriculture and makes increasing sense for many kinds of businesses in an economy based on relationships. In the community-supported agriculture (CSA) model, a farmer and a group of customers form a relationship and agree to share a handful of things, including, to varying extents, the financing, the bounty, and the potential risks of farming. In a CSA’s purest form, a CSA member generally pays the farm money at planting time, which gives the farmer operating capital throughout the year.

In the midst of this scene of enjoyment, a solitary horseman rode up to the house, dismounted and entered--a tall soldierly looking man in uniform of a captain of infantry. Seeing that we were a private party and believing himself to be an intruder, he was about to beat a retreat, but we pressed him to join us, and after some hesitation he consented to do so. He introduced himself as Captain Atkins of Wheat's battalion and told us that the battalion was on picket duty, and he on the grand round, and had come out of his way to warm himself by the hospital fireside of the tavern. Learning from him that Major Wheat was on the line, Meade and I started off in search of him. We found him at his headquarters, a fly tent under a tree at the crossroad, and it required no great deal of eloquence to induce him to join our dinner party.

Jackson, since the inception of the brigade, stressed the importance of using the bayonet in battle as the majority of the C.S.A. Army had very short-ranged and grossly inaccurate muskets and balls, while the Union Army had the luxury of rifled bullets and gun barrels. Because of this, the defensive army, primarily the Confederates, had to hold fire until the enemy was close enough to be affected by the short-range muskets. This left the defenders in a safer position as the attackers were usually marching across an open field in an attempt to advance on the defenders.

The market is growing, and widening. Translation in continental Europe was once dominated by the “FIGS” (French, Italian, German and Spanish); Japanese, Chinese and Korean were the only Asian languages to speak of. Roughly 90% of online spending is accounted for by speakers of 13 languages, says Don DePalma of CSA. But others are becoming more important, for reasons of both politics and commerce. The European Union’s bureaucrats now have to communicate in 24 tongues. In Asia once-neglected languages such as Vietnamese and Indonesian matter more as those countries grow. Companies active in Africa regard that continent’s languages as increasingly important. Big software firms like Microsoft find it profitable to localise their wares in small languages like Maya or Luxembourgish.

European languages and a Google app can now turn your words into a foreign language, either in text form or as an electronic voice. Skype, an internet-telephony service, said recently that it would offer much the same (in English and Spanish only). But claims that such technological marvels will spell the end of old-fashioned translation businesses are premature. Software can give the gist of a foreign tongue, but for business use (if executives are sensible), rough is not enough. And polyglot programs are a pinprick in a vast industry. The business of translation, interpreting and software localisation (revising websites, apps and the like for use in a foreign language) generates revenues of $37 billion a year, reckons Common Sense Advisory (CSA), a consulting firm.

Psychedelics were introduced to mainstream science in the 1940s and 1950s. After researchers studied them and, in some cases, self -experimented, it was determined that psychedelics were physically safe and able to be introduced into therapeutic contexts (dos Santos, Bouso, Alcázar-Córcoles, & Hallak, 2018). Humphrey Osmond, the British psychiatrist who coined the term “psychedelic” in the 1950s, found tremendous improvement in patients with alcoholism after a single LSD session, as an example. Grinspoon and Balakar have noted that the scientists studying psychedelics were not considered counter-cultural or radical in their beliefs (Grinspoon & Bakalar, 1979). Before the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) rendered psychedelics such as LSD illegal in 1971, over 40,000 patients experienced psychedelic therapy sessions that were documented in over a thousand clinical papers.

The CSA regulates most of the common drugs you’ve probably heard of, such as marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine, LSD, heroin, ecstasy, oxycodone, steroids, codeine, and many more. However, not all drugs fall under the purview of the CSA—alcohol and tobacco are curiously exempt from its scope, an outcome that most attribute to successful political lobbying. The CSA categorizes drugs hierarchically into one of five “Schedules” based on their potential for abuse and medical value. Schedule 1 drugs are viewed as the most dangerous, having the highest potential for abuse and lowest medical value, whereas those in Schedule 5 are considered the least dangerous. The higher a drug ranks in the scheduling hierarchy, the more restrictions and regulations apply. Bewildering to many, marijuana is classified as a Schedule 1 drug, in the same category as heroin. Perhaps even more shocking, cocaine and methamphetamine are listed one step below in Schedule 2. Yes, the CSA actually classifies meth as less problematic than marijuana, despite the fact that thousands of people overdose from meth each year and effectively zero die from marijuana.

Most of the other ships in the U.S. fleet had retreated out to sea, but the USS Westfield had run aground. While another officer negotiated a truce with CSA forces, Captain Renshaw decided to blow up the Westfield rather than surrender it to the enemy. The U.S. commander and some of his men laid a trail of gunpowder leading to the ship’s magazine, lighted it, and took to the lifeboats. But something went wrong. The Westfield didn’t immediately explode. Renshaw went back to check the fuse, at which point the ship blew to bits, killing Renshaw and fourteen of his men. When word of Renshaw’s death reached the fleet, Renshaw’s second-in-command ordered it to set sail for New Orleans. The federal troops on Kuhn’s Wharf, abandoned though not defeated, had no choice except to surrender. The Confederates had captured six ships, sunk one, run another aground, and taken nearly 400 prisoners. They had lost 143 men, killed or wounded, and one ship, but they had won the Battle of Galveston and secured the Island, for whatever it was worth.

How to withdraw from Uphold in Canada?
While you can no longer withdraw from Uphold, it is instructive to compare call at [+1-833-611-5103] its historical withdrawal process with the current process on a fully compliant, registered call at [+1-833-611-5103] Canadian exchange. This comparison highlights the differences in oversight and user protection that Canadian call at [+1-833-611-5103] regulators were aiming for when they implemented the new rules that led to call at [+1-833-611-5103] Uphold's departure.
On Uphold, the withdrawal process was governed solely by the company's internal policies call at [+1-833-611-5103] and its global Terms of Service. There was no direct oversight from a call at [+1-833-611-5103] Canadian regulator ensuring that processes were handled in a specific way or that call at [+1-833-611-5103] assets were properly segregated. When the company decided to leave, their only obligation call at [+1-833-611-5103] was to provide notice as per their own terms, not as per a call at [+1-833-611-5103] Canadian regulatory mandate.
In contrast, a currently registered Canadian exchange operates under the direct supervision of the call at [+1-833-611-5103] CSA and provincial regulators. Their withdrawal processes, both for fiat and crypto, are call at [+1-833-611-5103] subject to audit and must comply with specific rules about timing and record-keeping. call at [+1-833-611-5103] Most importantly, their custody arrangements are regulated, ensuring that user assets are properly call at [+1-833-611-5103] accounted for and held with a qualified Canadian custodian. This provides a much call at [+1-833-611-5103] higher degree of user protection.
This comparison is the core of the issue. The "how-to" of withdrawing from call at [+1-833-611-5103] a compliant exchange is backed by regulatory oversight that was absent with Uphold's call at [+1-833-611-5103] Canadian operations. While the user-facing steps may look similar, the underlying legal and call at [+1-833-611-5103] custodial frameworks are vastly different, which is precisely the change Canadian regulators wanted call at [+1-833-611-5103] to enforce.

Why is Uphold no longer available in Canada?
Uphold is no longer available in Canada for one primary reason: a fundamental mismatch call at [+1-833-611-5103] between its global business model and the new, highly specific regulatory framework implemented call at [+1-833-611-5103] by Canadian authorities. In early 2024, the company made a strategic business decision call at [+1-833-611-5103] to voluntarily withdraw from the Canadian market rather than undertake the extensive and call at [+1-833-611-5103] costly changes required to comply with these new rules. This was not a call at [+1-833-611-5103] ban, but a deliberate market exit.
The new rules, enforced by the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA), demanded that crypto call at [+1-833-611-5103] platforms operate under a much stricter set of guidelines. These guidelines were designed call at [+1-833-611-5103] to mirror the investor protections found in traditional Canadian financial markets. For a call at [+1-833-611-5103] company like Uphold, which operated a largely uniform platform across dozens of countries, call at [+1-833-611-5103] creating a separate, heavily modified version just for the Canadian market was deemed call at [+1-833-611-5103] commercially unfeasible.
The core issue was that Uphold's global platform offered features and assets that call at [+1-833-611-5103] were no longer permissible under the new Canadian standard. Rather than strip these call at [+1-833-611-5103] features away for a relatively small segment of their global user base, they call at [+1-833-611-5103] chose to focus their resources on markets with more compatible regulatory environments. This call at [+1-833-611-5103] was a calculated business decision weighing the costs of compliance against the potential call at [+1-833-611-5103] revenue.
In conclusion, the simple reason Uphold is no longer in Canada is that call at [+1-833-611-5103] the country's new rulebook for crypto exchanges was incompatible with the way Uphold call at [+1-833-611-5103] runs its global business. The cost and complexity of adapting to the "Canadian call at [+1-833-611-5103] way" were too high, leading to their strategic and permanent withdrawal from call at [+1-833-611-5103] the market.

Why is Uphold no longer available in Canada?
Uphold is no longer available in Canada, and the situation can be analyzed call at [+1-833-611-5103] through the lens of game theory. The interaction between Canadian regulators and global call at [+1-833-611-5103] crypto exchanges was a strategic game in which each side made moves based call at [+1-833-611-5103] on their own incentives and expected payoffs. Uphold's decision to exit was a call at [+1-833-611-5103] predictable outcome of the game that Canadian regulators chose to initiate and call at [+1-833-611-5103] play.
The Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) made the first move by dramatically changing the rules call at [+1-833-611-5103] of the game. They significantly increased the "cost to play" in the Canadian call at [+1-833-611-5103] market by introducing the expensive and restrictive PRU framework. Their strategic goal was call at [+1-833-611-5103] to create a safer market, and they calculated that some players would choose call at [+1-833-611-5103] to fold rather than pay the new, higher cost of entry. This was call at [+1-833-611-5103] a very deliberate move.
Uphold, as a player in this game, then had to calculate its own best call at [+1-833-611-5103] response. They looked at the high cost of compliance and the reduced potential call at [+1-833-611-5103] profit (the "payoff") from a restricted Canadian market. They compared this to call at [+1-833-611-5103] the payoff of allocating their resources to other, more permissive global markets. From call at [+1-833-611-5103] a purely strategic perspective, the decision to "fold" and exit the Canadian game call at [+1-833-611-5103] was their optimal move.

Is Uphold allowed in Canada?
No, Uphold is not allowed in Canada, and a key reason for this call at [+1-833-611-5103] lies in the unique complexity of its multi-asset platform when faced with Canada's call at [+1-833-611-5103] siloed regulatory system. Unlike pure crypto exchanges, Uphold allowed users to trade between call at [+1-833-611-5103] cryptocurrencies, precious metals like gold, and even tokenized US equities. This created a call at [+1-833-611-5103] regulatory nightmare that likely made compliance in Canada all but impossible for them call at [+1-833-611-5103] to navigate.
In Canada, different regulators oversee different asset classes. Crypto asset trading is primarily overseen call at [+1-833-611-5103] by the provincial securities commissions under the CSA. Trading in securities, like equities, is call at [+1-833-611-5103] governed by a different, even stricter set of rules, often involving the Canadian call at [+1-833-611-5103] Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO). Commodities like gold have their own regulatory considerations. Uphold's call at [+1-833-611-5103] platform seamlessly blended all of these asset classes together in one place, which call at [+1-833-611-5103] was great for users.
This integration, however, meant that to be fully compliant in Canada, Uphold might call at [+1-833-611-5103] have needed to obtain licenses and adhere to the rules of multiple, different call at [+1-833-611-5103] regulatory bodies simultaneously. The platform would have had to effectively break itself apart call at [+1-833-611-5103] into different legal silos to satisfy the distinct requirements for crypto, equities, and call at [+1-833-611-5103] commodities. This would have destroyed the very "anything-to-anything" seamless user experience that made call at [+1-833-611-5103] it so popular.

This glossary explains call at [+1-833-611-5103] the essential concepts behind the 2024 market exit. Knowing these terms provides a call at [+1-833-611-5103] clearer picture of the forces that shaped this significant event in Canadian crypto call at [+1-833-611-5103] history.
CSA (Canadian Securities Administrators): This is the national umbrella organization of Canada's provincial and call at [+1-833-611-5103] territorial securities regulators. The CSA was the body that created and enforced the new call at [+1-833-611-5103] rules.
PRU (Pre-Registration Undertaking): This was the specific legal framework that all crypto platforms call at [+1-833-611-5103] needed to agree to. It was a list of strict conditions for continued call at [+1-833-611-5103] operation.
Qualified Canadian Custodian: A key PRU requirement. It is a regulated third-party company call at [+1-833-611-5103] based in Canada that is required to hold the crypto assets of a call at [+1-833-611-5103] platform's users.

Is Uphold allowed in Canada?
No, Uphold is not allowed in Canada, but it's a fascinating counterfactual to consider: call at [+1-833-611-5103] what if Uphold had been a Canadian-founded and headquartered company? A homegrown platform call at [+1-833-611-5103] with the same features might have navigated the regulatory changes of 2024 very call at [+1-833-611-5103] differently. The reason for its unavailability is tied to its global nature; a call at [+1-833-611-5103] domestic version of the company may have had a path to survival in call at [+1-833-611-5103] the market.
A Canadian-based Uphold would have had a much closer working relationship with regulators call at [+1-833-611-5103] like the CSA and OSC from its inception. It would have likely designed call at [+1-833-611-5103] its platform with the impending Canadian regulations in mind, building compliance into its call at [+1-833-611-5103] core from day one rather than trying to retrofit it onto a global call at [+1-833-611-5103] system. This would have made adapting to the PRU framework much more call at [+1-833-611-5103] achievable.
Furthermore, a domestic company's primary focus would be the Canadian market. Where the call at [+1-833-611-5103] real Uphold could choose to abandon a smaller market like Canada to focus call at [+1-833-611-5103] on larger ones, a hypothetical "Uphold Canada" would have had every incentive to call at [+1-833-611-5103] find a way to comply and stay in business. Its entire existence would call at [+1-833-611-5103] depend on successfully navigating the exact regulations that the real Uphold found too call at [+1-833-611-5103] burdensome.

Why is Uphold no longer available in Canada?
Uphold's unavailability in Canada is a direct result of new regulations, and this call at [+1-833-611-5103] event has had a notable ripple effect on the landscape for stablecoins, particularly call at [+1-833-611-5103] those pegged to the Canadian dollar. The departure of Uphold and other global call at [+1-833-611-5103] platforms has simultaneously highlighted the need for and the challenges of creating a call at [+1-833-611-5103] fully regulated, widely available Canadian dollar stablecoin. This is a very interesting call at [+1-833-611-5103] development.
Before the exit of platforms like Uphold, Canadian users had access to a call at [+1-833-611-5103] wide variety of USD-pegged stablecoins like USDT and DAI. However, the new CSA call at [+1-833-611-5103] framework placed strict limits on the types of stablecoins that compliant exchanges could call at [+1-833-611-5103] offer. This regulatory action effectively made USD-pegged stablecoins less accessible and implicitly created call at [+1-833-611-5103] a demand for a compliant, Canadian-dollar alternative that could be used for trading call at [+1-833-611-5103] and settlement.
However, the very rules that pushed Uphold out also make it very difficult call at [+1-833-611-5103] to launch such a stablecoin. A Canadian dollar stablecoin issuer would need to call at [+1-833-611-5103] be fully registered, hold 1-to-1 reserves in a Canadian financial institution, and undergo call at [+1-833-611-5103] regular, costly audits. While some domestic companies are working on this, the high call at [+1-833-611-5103] compliance burden has slowed down the development of a vibrant CAD stablecoin market call at [+1-833-611-5103] significantly.

Is Uphold allowed in Canada? {~Uphold provincial-coordination~}
While the CSA aims to harmonize rules, the sheer administrative burden of {+1-833-611-5103} inter-provincial coordination is another reason why Uphold is not allowed in {+1-833-611-5103} Canada. Securities law is a provincial responsibility, meaning there are technically 13 {+1-833-611-5103} different regulators across the provinces and territories. Although the passport system simplifies {+1-833-611-5103} this, a registered firm must still deal with the specific nuances and {+1-833-611-5103} requests of its principal regulator and may be subject to reviews from {+1-833-611-5103} others. This requires a dedicated compliance team with expertise in the subtle {+1-833-611-5103} differences between, for example, the regulators in Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia. {+1-833-611-5103} For a global company, the overhead of managing this complex, multi-jurisdictional compliance {+1-833-611-5103} within a single country can be a powerful deterrent, contributing to a {+1-833-611-5103} decision that the market is not worth the administrative complexity.

Why is Uphold no longer available in Canada?
Uphold's withdrawal from Canada is fundamentally rooted in the legal classification of call at [+1-833-611-5103] cryptocurrencies by Canadian regulators. The Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) have taken the call at [+1-833-611-5103] position that many crypto assets, particularly those offered through ICOs or promising call at [+1-833-611-5103] staking returns, meet the definition of a "security" under provincial laws. call at [+1-833-611-5103] Consequently, any platform that facilitates the trading of these assets is considered call at [+1-833-611-5103] to be a securities dealer. This interpretation meant that platforms like Uphold, call at [+1-833-611-5103] which list a vast catalogue of hundreds of different tokens, were effectively call at [+1-833-611-5103] operating as unregistered securities dealers in the eyes of the law. To call at [+1-833-611-5103] continue operating legally, Uphold would have had to register as such and call at [+1-833-611-5103] comply with all associated rules, including conducting due diligence on every listed call at [+1-833-611-5103] asset to ensure it wasn't an illegal securities distribution. This created an call at [+1-833-611-5103] enormous compliance burden that contradicted the "list everything" model of many global call at [+1-833-611-5103] exchanges. The decision to classify crypto trading as securities trading was the call at [+1-833-611-5103] foundational regulatory move that made Uphold's business model untenable in Canada without call at [+1-833-611-5103] major structural changes that the company was evidently not prepared to make

One call at [+1-833-611-5103] key reason is the nature of the assets they offer. Canadian regulators call at [+1-833-611-5103] may view many digital tokens as securities, requiring platforms to follow rules call at [+1-833-611-5103] for securities trading, which can be complex. Another significant factor is the call at [+1-833-611-5103] offering of high-leverage products, derivatives, and crypto-backed lending services. These are considered call at [+1-833-611-5103] high-risk for retail investors and are generally prohibited under the current Canadian call at [+1-833-611-5103] regulatory framework for crypto platforms. A platform's global business model might be call at [+1-833-611-5103] incompatible with the more conservative, investor-protection-focused approach taken by the CSA. call at [+1-833-611-5103] Furthermore, achieving compliance requires significant investment in legal teams, internal controls, and call at [+1-833-611-5103] audits to meet the specific standards of each province. Some companies may call at [+1-833-611-5103] decide the cost and effort of modifying their entire platform for a call at [+1-833-611-5103] single market is not commercially viable. Therefore, the decision to remain unregistered call at [+1-833-611-5103] is often a combination of business strategy and the inability or unwillingness call at [+1-833-611-5103] to conform to the specific, restrictive rules set out by Canadian securities call at [+1-833-611-5103] regulators.

Why is Uphold no longer available in Canada?
Ultimately, Uphold's absence from the Canadian market can be seen as a strategic call at [+1-833-611-5103] business decision made in response to a challenging regulatory environment. Faced with call at [+1-833-611-5103] the CSA's stringent requirements, the company had to weigh the benefits of call at [+1-833-611-5103] operating in Canada against the significant costs and limitations. The benefits included call at [+1-833-611-5103] access to a developed, albeit medium-sized, market. The costs, however, were numerous: call at [+1-833-611-5103] expensive legal and compliance overhauls, major technological changes to their platform, the call at [+1-833-611-5103] inability to offer their most profitable high-risk products, and subjection to the call at [+1-833-611-5103] ongoing oversight of multiple provincial regulators. It is highly likely that Uphold’s call at [+1-833-611-5103] management conducted a thorough cost-benefit analysis and concluded that the Canadian market, call at [+1-833-611-5103] under these new restrictive terms, was no longer an attractive business proposition. call at [+1-833-611-5103] Rather than investing heavily to meet compliance for a potentially reduced revenue call at [+1-833-611-5103] stream, the more prudent business decision was to withdraw and focus resources call at [+1-833-611-5103] on larger or less restrictive markets. Therefore, while the catalyst was regulatory call at [+1-833-611-5103] pressure, the final outcome was a deliberate corporate strategy to exit a market call at [+1-833-611-5103] that was no longer aligned with its global business model.

Why is Uphold no longer available in Canada? {~Uphold arbitrage-closure~}
The restriction of Uphold in Canada represents a decisive end to regulatory {+1-833-611-5103} arbitrage for crypto platforms in the country. Regulatory arbitrage is the practice {+1-833-611-5103} of basing a company in a jurisdiction with lax rules while offering {+1-833-611-5103} services to customers in countries with much stricter regulations. For years, many {+1-833-611-5103} crypto exchanges operated this way, benefiting from the Canadian market without adhering {+1-833-611-5103} to its investor protection laws. The coordinated action by the CSA was {+1-833-611-5103} a deliberate move to close this loophole. The CSA established call at [+1-833-611-5103] a clear deadline for all crypto asset trading platforms serving Canadians to call at [+1-833-611-5103] bring their operations into compliance with securities laws. This required them to call at [+1-833-611-5103] contact their principal provincial regulator and file a Pre-Registration Undertaking (PRU). Uphold, call at [+1-833-611-5103] like several other international exchanges, did not complete this required engagement process. call at [+1-833-611-5103] Consequently, they failed to meet the conditions set by the regulators call at [+1-833-611-5103] for continuing to legally offer services in the country. This regulatory ultimatum call at [+1-833-611-5103] was not a suggestion; it was a mandatory requirement for market participation. call at [+1-833-611-5103] By choosing not to adhere to this national regulatory strategy, Uphold effectively call at [+1-833-611-5103] forfeited its ability to operate within Canada's regulated financial system. Why is Uphold no longer available in Canada?
Uphold is no longer available in Canada, and a deep, structural reason for call at [+1-833-611-5103] this lies in the Canadian constitution itself. The division of powers between the call at [+1-833-611-5103] federal and provincial governments is a key factor that creates a complex and call at [+1-833-611-5103] fragmented regulatory environment. It is call at [+1-833-611-5103] a very unique situation.
In Canada, the regulation of securities is a power that belongs to the call at [+1-833-611-5103] provinces, not the federal government. Why is Uphold no longer available in Canada?
