The area around the fifty-yard line had been set up with a stage and seating. The kids held my hands as we went to the elevator, ready to go out. "Can you believe we're in Cowboys Stadium for Daddy?" I asked them, trying to rally my spirits as well as theirs. "He would be so blown away." I think they nodded. The elevator opened. We got in. The car went down, and suddenly we were walking onto the runway that led to the field. Pay attention to what’s around you. This is unbelievable! The bagpipers began to move, the tap of their shoes on the concrete apron echoing loudly. The cadence centered me. The pipes began to mourn and my spirit swelled, the music propelling me forward. The casket was marched out and placed front and center. The pallbearers and Navy honor guard stood at attention. I was moving in a cocoon of numbing grief and overwhelming awe. There was a prayer, speeches--each moment moved me in a different way. The easy jokes, the devotional hymns, each had its own effect. I began to float. When I’d asked people to talk about Chris at the ceremony, I’d made a point of reminding them of his humor and asking if possible to add some lighter touches to their speeches, roasting him, even; it was all so Chris. But now some of the light jokes tripped a wire: Don’t talk bad about him! Don’t you dare! Then in the next moment I’d realize he would have been leading the laughs, and it was all good again. I couldn’t force a smile, though.

This Land is Our Home [Verse] From the rolling plains to the mountain high, Our fathers bled and fought, they didn't die for a lie. Now the ghost of our past whispers in the wind, Saying "Son, don't let the dream die, fight to the end." [Verse 2] The city folks in their ivory towers, Selling out our lands for their fleeting powers. But out here in the country, we'll make a stand, With calloused hands we'll take back this land. [Chorus] This land is our home, and we're not backing down, We stand for our God and the small-town crowd. Proud to be American, we ain't selling our soul, There'll be hell to pay, we're taking back control. [Verse 3] From the chapel bells to the fields of grain, The spirit of this country runs deep in our veins. Mama's prayers, Daddy's hardened hands, We fight for the future, we take a stand. [Verse 4] In the quiet dawn, we hear the land's lament, Sold to the highest bidder, they don't repent. But we're the heartland, the rock of this earth, We'll reclaim our pride, know what it's worth. [Chorus] This land is our home, and we're not backing down, We stand for our God and the small-town crowd. Proud to be American, we ain't selling our soul, There'll be hell to pay, we're taking back control.

Echoes of the Heart"** In a world that's loud and busy, Sometimes words cut through so easy, A whisper can break a heart in two, It's the little things that we say and do. Sometimes even the smallest of words, Can be the ones to hurt you, But let's fill our days with kindness, And watch how love can surely bloom. We're all walking our own journey, With burdens that we carry, A little respect goes a long way, Let's lift each other up every day. Respect for others, a touch of grace, A little more common decency, It's one of the simplest things, You can teach someone, watch their spirit dance and sing. Words are like the wind on the plains, They can soothe or they can bring the rain, Let's choose them with a cowboy's care, Speak with love, as if it's a prayer. In the echoes of the heart, let's find, A melody that's sweet and kind, Teach the young ones as they grow, Decency's the seed we ought to sow.

In the heart of the land where the rivers flow free, Stands a nation of folks who are brave as can be. With hands on our hearts, under God's watchful eyes, We're singing this song for the home of the brave. We're taking back our country, it's time to stand tall, With faith as our compass, we'll never fall. From the mountains so grand, to the wide-open sea, Under God's grace, where the brave are still free. We've weathered the storms, faced our trials with grace, Now we're turning the page, we're not stuck in one place. With hope in our eyes and prayers in our hands, We're planting new seeds across this great land. So many have fought, and so many have died, To keep the flame of freedom truly alive. In fields far away, under skies so vast, Their courage reminds us, our liberty lasts. Oh, we're not just a memory, we're alive and we're strong, We're the voices united in a powerful song. With God by our side, we'll forge a new way, For the red, white, and blue, we'll proudly display. We're taking back our country, with courage anew, We'll mend every bridge and paint it with truth. From the golden wheat fields to the cities that gleam, Under God's watch, we're chasing the dream. So let's raise up our voices, let the whole world hear, The USA's heart beats strong and sincere. We're taking back our country, making it better each day, For we are the people, under God, the USA.

With God on Our Side August 13, 2024 at 7:30 AM [Verse] This country’s going to hell, it's plain to see, So let's put God back where He should be. We, the people, must take a stand, Together we're strong, hand in hand. [Verse 2] Out here in the country, where life is tough, With calloused hands, we know how to be rough. We'll take back this land, through toil and fight, With faith in our hearts, we'll set things right. [Chorus] Proud Americans, leading the way, We won't back down, come what may. Standin' up for what's ours, with God on our side, For our country, we'll rise, never backslide. [Verse 3] Through fields of golden grain, where freedom grows, In small-town squares, where everyone knows, We'll stand united, let our voices be heard, Living by truth, not just by word. [Verse 4] In every church bell's toll, in every prayer, Our spirit's strong, we'll show we care. No room for compromise, we'll hold the line, For faith and country, through the test of time. [Chorus] Proud Americans, leading the way, We won't back down, come what may. Standin' up for what's ours, with God on our side, For our country, we'll rise, never backslide.

One Nation Under God rebellious gritty outlaw country [Verse] In the heart of these small-town roads, where the story's old but true, We used to bow our heads in prayer, we’d pledge allegiance too. Now the lights are flickering, the signs all point to fall, Where’d that spirit go that used to stand so tall? [Verse 2] Factory stands are empty, schools don’t teach no more, Folks drive by the church, like it's something to ignore. We used to hold our ground, with hands together tight, But the unity we had has vanished in the night. [Chorus] This country’s going to hell, can’t you hear the warning bell? What once was one nation under God has disappeared. We the people will soon be no more if we don’t take a stand, It’s time to raise that flag and put God back in this land. [Verse 3] We got preachers out on Main Street, shouting at the skies, But nobody’s listening, too busy with the lies. The family dinners cold now, faith broke at the seams, It’s high time to awake and chase those old dreams. [Verse 4] The fields are overgrown, tractors left to rust, Where’s the honor and the pride, the values that we trust? Cemeteries filled with souls who knew the way it was, We need to reawaken and fix this just because. [Chorus] This country’s going to hell, can’t you hear the warning bell? What once was one nation under God has disappeared. We the people will soon be no more if we don’t take a stand, It’s time to raise that flag and put God back in this land.

A Cowboys Prayer "May your belly never grumble, "May your heart never ache, May your horse never stumble, "May your cinch never break.
James Hilton
God We tried to send out cowboys to search for God. Many of them agreed, but none of them left their ranches. Seemed God resided right there on their home spreads. Jim said he found proof of God in the smile of his little girl. Dan heard God in the early mornin’ call of a momma cow. Larry shook the hand of God when a friend came to visit him after a bad accident. Smiley felt God when he forgave an old enemy for cheatin’ him. William found God in the dirt as he hit his knees in prayer for his wife that was sick. These cowboys didn’t find God in some fancy religious practice. They found God in their hearts when they finally opened up their blind eyes.

see it was finally his turn to enjoy his favorite meal - prime rib, twice-baked potatoes, green beans with bacon pieces, homemade yeast rolls with berry jam and fried apples. He could barely wait to dig in. Viv and Denni contributed a few salads and side dishes and the table looked like it might buckle under the weight of all the good food. Once everyone was seated, Trey asked them to bow their heads and led them in a heartfelt prayer of thanks that ended with, “We thank thee for every gift from thy loving hands, especially for our own precious child, Cass. Please bless this food, bless the hands that prepared it, bless each one gathered around this table and bless our time together. In Jesus name we pray.” Soft whispers of “amen” echoed around the table.

Memories of You Verse 1: It's not supposed to be like this, It's not the way it should be, You're supposed to outlive me, But now I'm left with your memories. The days are long, the nights are cold, Without you here, my heart feels old. We had dreams, we had plans, Every moment feels so wrong, without you. Chorus: It's not supposed to be like this, It's not the way it should be, You're supposed to outlive me, But now I'm left with your memories. Verse 2: We danced under the moonlit sky, Laughed until we cried, Now I'm here, just getting by, Wishing you were by my side. The stars above don't shine as bright, Without your love, there's no light. We had dreams, we had plans, Every moment feels so wrong, without you. Chorus: It's not supposed to be like this, It's not the way it should be, You're supposed to outlive me, But now I'm left with your memories. Bridge: I'll hold on to the love we shared, In every whisper, every prayer. Though you're gone, you're still with me, In every song, in every dream. Chorus: It's not supposed to be like this, It's not the way it should be, You're supposed to outlive me, But now I'm left with your memories. Outro: It's not supposed to be like this, But I'll carry on, I'll be strong, With your memories, I'll find my way, Until we meet again someday.
