A BS in any neuroscience without a master's or PhD was a three-legged dog of a degree: pitiable, adorable, and capable of inspiring applause when it did anything for you at all.
Daryl Gregory (Afterparty)
that leaders inspire trust, be authentic, tell the truth, serve others (particularly those who work for and with them), be modest and self-effacing, exhibit empathic understanding and emotional intelligence, and other similar seemingly sensible nostrums.
Jeffrey Pfeffer (Leadership BS: Fixing Workplaces and Careers One Truth at a Time)
Nothing is fair. Life is shit and it doesn't get any better. But there are things in life that will make it bearable; tolerable. There are things that will make all of the BS worth it. You've just gotta open yourself up to it. It's not always easy, and the scars will never go away...but maybe, just maybe, you can learn to live with them.
Crystal D. Budy (Echo of Silence (North Coast Mystery, #1))

Frieda B.'s a big dreamer, that's certainly true, but the world's biggest dreamer is also in you. All the color and music inside - set it free. Just dream your dreams big and believe they can be.
Renata Bowers (Frieda B. Herself (Book 1))
Women have to support each other more. Women get women. We understand each other when we are happy or sad, when we have our period, start a new job, or fall in love. We are typically the caretakers. Let’s take care of each other, start building each other up. The stereotype with women is that we are catty and vindictive. It’s important to fight against that notion. I have a no BS policy in my circle.
Ashley Graham
When I started in real estate, despite high ambition, I was constrained by the same 24 hours as everyone else. My early success came from a grueling schedule, long hours, and the high price of near burn-out. In self-defense, I devised a system that featured direct marketing in place of traditional prospecting plus a highly effective team, with all the non-rainmaker tasks delegated to them. This took me to the top of the profession, twice #1 in RE/MAX worldwide in commissions earned, and 15 years as one of the top agents—working less hours than most. While an active agent, I consistently sold over 500 homes a year, even while starting and developing a second business, training and coaching more millionaire agents than any other coach. Without the inspiration of Dan Kennedy’s direct marketing methods and his extraordinary, extreme time-management philosophy, these achievements simply would not have been possible. LEVERAGING yourself, by media in place of manual labor, and with other people is very intimidating to most real estate agents and to most small businesspeople. It frankly is not easy to get right, but it is the quantum leap that uniquely and simultaneously lifts income and supports a great lifestyle. —CRAIG PROCTOR, CRAIGPROCTOR.COM

Is power like the vis viva and the quantite d’avancement? That is, is it conserved by the universe, or is it like shares of a stock, which may have great value one day, and be worthless the next? If power is like stock shares, then it follows that the immense sum thereof lately lost by B[olingbroke] has vanished like shadows in sunlight. For no matter how much wealth is lost in stock crashes, it never seems to turn up, but if power is conserved, then B’s must have gone somewhere. Where is it? Some say ‘twas scooped up by my Lord R, who hid it under a rock, lest my Lord M come from across the sea and snatch it away. My friends among the Whigs say that any power lost by a Tory is infallibly and insensibly distributed among all the people, but no matter how assiduously I search the lower rooms of the clink for B’s lost power, I cannot seem to find any there, which explodes that argument, for there are assuredly very many people in those dark salons. I propose a novel theory of power, which is inspired by . . . the engine for raising water by fire. As a mill makes flour, a loom makes cloth and a forge makes steel, so we are assured this engine shall make power. If the backers of this device speak truly, and I have no reason to deprecate their honesty, it proves that power is not a conserved quantity, for of such quantities, it is never possible to make more. The amount of power in the world, it follows, is ever increasing, and the rate of increase grows ever faster as more of these engines are built. A man who hordes power is therefore like a miser who sits on a heap of coins in a realm where the currency is being continually debased by the production of more coins than the market can bear. So that what was a great fortune, when first he raked it together, insensibly becomes a slag heap, and is found to be devoid of value. When at last he takes it to the marketplace to be spent. Thus my Lord B and his vaunted power hoard what is true of him is likely to be true of his lackeys, particularly his most base and slavish followers such as Mr. Charles White. This varmint has asserted that he owns me. He fancies that to own a man is to have power, yet he has got nothing by claiming to own me, while I who was supposed to be rendered powerless, am now writing for a Grub Street newspaper that is being perused by you, esteemed reader.

We are here to discover what we are truly passionate about and let that become the life-force that pumps through our veins. Now that I know all this, I don’t think I could ever do something I wasn’t passionate about. Your work is not who are you, but it is something you spend a lot of time doing—so why not do something that lights you up and puts profits in your pockets at the same time? I’ve had two careers in my lifetime, both driven by passion. When I first started as a performer I loved what I did so much that it never felt like work. Similarly to now: speaking, writing, and creating products to inspire women to be wildly wealthy, fabulously healthy, and bursting with love doesn’t feel like work to me. And I feel deeply grateful I have had these two careers that made my heart sing.

Even as India's left-lib ecosystem, planted by 'Muslim by culture' Nehru and fertilized by 'Christian by birth' Sonia, sprints on the congregational track, the right-wingers tend to plough their opinions in lonely furrows on the lines of Hindu infirmities.

the leadership industry also has its share of quacks and sham artists who sell promises and stories, some true, some not, but all of them inspirational and comfortable, with not much follow-up to see what really does work and what doesn’t.

A few weeks after my injury, when I was in the rehab center, I found someone willing to travel to the center to give me a massage. Partway through, she suggested trying something called Reiki. This is where instead of touching you, the masseuse waves their hands through the air over you to “adjust your energy fields.” You can probably tell by the way that I describe this that I think this is a bunch of BS. Does it work for some people? Of course it does. The placebo effect can work with any type of treatment or medication by providing someone with an improvement if and when they expect to get one. The nice doctor in the white lab coat gives you some pills and says, “Take two of these each morning, and your pain should feel much better.” The medication that the doctor gives you could be nothing more than sugar pills. Still, if you really believe that you’ll benefit from it, your brain finds a way to make at least some improvement come true. In double-blind studies, it’s been proven that the placebo effect can provide as much as a 32 percent improvement. Because of this, for new drugs to be approved in the US, they need to test at a level that’s higher than the 32 percent placebo level of improvement. So, if I’d believed in Reiki, then I may have experienced some benefit from it, but I don’t, so I didn’t get anything out of the treatment. That said, I think it’s interesting that when dealing with chronic pain, the temptation is to try almost anything, no matter how crazy it sounds. The hope is that maybe, just maybe, you’ll be able to get some relief from your ongoing pain.

(...) here’s the thing about pretending to have all the answers: it’s exhausting, it’s lonely, and—surprise, surprise—it’s holding you back from your greatest potential. Your worth isn't determined by a flawless facade but by your resilience, adaptability, and willingness to be genuinely human.

Therefore, a book written to try and shift the paradigm is pointless, because the storyteller that helps maintain the left-brain physical model can fill the holes with BS as fast as I can produce evidence. Moreover, this storyteller will stubbornly resist any rational assessment of proof. Gazzaniga highlighted the operation of this storyteller by working with epileptic patients where the 300 million connecting fibers between the two halves of the brain called the Corpus Callosum were cut to control seizures.

I can and do work 16-hour days but solely by choice now as I could sleep for a year and nothing would miss a beat only because I fought through my life plans every step of the way and steered clear of drama, bs and haters.

If you finally decide to quit your soul-crushing job and start the pastry shop of your dreams, be not upset if a truck drives through your front window into your scones. Instead of taking this as a sign that you shouldn’t have opened your shop, take it to mean that you’re ridding yourself of your BS and moving in the right direction.

How to Safely Purchase Google 5 Star Reviews for Your Business Hey, business owner - picture this: You're typing "best coffee shop near me" into Google on your phone, and bam, your little cafe pops up at the top of that coveted Local Pack. The grind of building a business is real, and seeing competitors with walls of perfect reviews can make you itch for a shortcut. I've chatted with dozens of shop owners just like you, staring at their empty profiles while rivals dominate page one. But let's talk straight: Buying Google 5 star reviews might give a fleeting rank bump, but it's like flooring the gas in a car with no brakes. One wrong turn, and you're crashing hard - fines, suspensions, and a trashed rep. In this deep dive (we're going all-in for about 6000 words here), we'll unpack the myths, the massive risks, and - the good stuff - proven ways to earn authentic reviews that genuinely supercharge your Google rank. Think of it as your no-BS roadmap to local SEO stardom. Grab a coffee (real one, hopefully), and let's roll. Understanding Google 5 Star Reviews and Their Role in Local SEO Let's start simple. What even is a Google 5 star review? It's not just a thumbs-up emoji on steroids. When a happy customer drops those five shiny stars on your Google Business Profile (GBP), it's a digital high-five that tells Google's algorithm, "This place rocks." But why does it punch your Google rank ticket? In the wild world of local SEO, reviews are like the secret sauce in your ranking recipe. Google's Local Pack - that top-three box of businesses - isn't random. It's fueled by signals like proximity, relevance, and prominence. Reviews? They crank up relevance and prominence big time. A study from 2025 shows businesses with 4.5+ stars snag 25% more clicks from the Pack. That's not fluff; it's foot traffic translating to bucks. What Makes a 5-Star Review Tick? Ever wonder why some reviews make Google swoon while others flop? It's all in the details. A killer 5-star review isn't "Great place!" - yawn. It's "Loved the pumpkin spice latte here today! Super friendly baristas whipped it up in under two minutes, and the cozy vibe made my rainy afternoon perfect. #LocalGem." See? Specifics like products, service speed, and keywords (hello, "pumpkin spice latte") feed Google's bots with fresh, relevant juice. These aren't just pats on the back; they're mini SEO goldmines that whisper to the algorithm, "This biz matches what searchers want." And length matters - reviews over 100 words rank profiles higher because they signal depth. Imagine reviews as love letters to your business: The more heartfelt and detailed, the more Google falls for you, bumping your rank. The Anatomy of a Review That Google Loves Break it down: Stars set the tone (aim for that 4.7 average), but text is the muscle. Keywords from your niche - "affordable auto repair" for a garage - weave in naturally, boosting relevance. Photos? Attach 'em! A pic of that latte art? It amps engagement, which Google tracks as a rank signal. Recency seals it: Fresh reviews (under 30 days old) weigh heavier, like hot bread from the oven. Bottom line? Craft your service to inspire these babies, and watch your Google rank climb like a rocket. How Authentic Reviews Skyrocket Your Google Rank in 2025 Alright, let's geek out on the "how."
