I sometimes marvel at how far I’ve come - blissful, even, in the knowledge that I am slowly becoming a well-evolved human being - only to have the illusion shattered by an episode of bad behaviour that contradicts the new and reinforces the old. At these junctures of self-reflection, I ask the question: “are all my years of hard work unraveling before my eyes, or am I just having an episode?” For the sake of personal growth and the pursuit of equanimity, I choose the latter and accept that, on this journey of evolution, I may not encounter just one bad day, but a group of many.

Change blows through the branches of our existence. It fortifies the roots on which we stand, infuses crimson experience with autumn hues, dismantles Winter’s brittle leaves, and ushers Spring into our fertile environments. Seeds of evolution burst from their pod cocoons and teardrop buds blossom into Summer flowers. The body consists of material senses that have beginning and end. Therefore the Upaniñhads describe the Absolute Truth as beyond the material senses that are found in this material world. If God would have material senses, He would be similar to a common man. But He does have spiritual senses. The Çvetäçvatara Upaniñad clearly explains that the Absolute Truth has no material legs and hands but has spiritual hands. He has no material eyes, but He does have spiritual eyes that see all. He has no material ears, but He hears all, and, possesses all-perfect spiritual senses. “Without legs and hands, He moves and accepts. Without eyes He sees, and without ears He hears. He knows all that is knowable, but no one knows Him.
