How to Cancel Your Venmo Debit Card (Permanent Closure) – Call (855) 812-4430
The Venmo Debit Card is an optional feature tied to your Venmo balance. Unlike other linked payment methods, you cannot simply "unlink" the card; you must either lock it temporarily or arrange for its permanent closure.
Scenario 1: Lost, Stolen, or Compromised Card (Immediate Action Required)
If your card is lost, stolen, or you see unauthorized transactions, you must immediately disable it to protect your funds.
Scenario 2: Permanent Cancellation (I don't want the card anymore)
If you simply want to stop using the physical card and officially close the card account, you must contact Venmo Support. The process is usually handled by their dedicated card services team.
Contact Support: Use the in-app chat or call the dedicated card line (the number listed on the back of your debit card, or call the main support line (855) 812-4430).
State Your Request Clearly: Inform the agent that you wish to permanently cancel and close the Venmo Debit Card account.
Confirm Closure: The agent will process the closure. Note that closing the debit card does not close your Venmo personal account, but it does mean you will lose access to features like Direct Deposit and the ability to withdraw cash at ATMs using that card.
Important: Card Cancellation vs. Account Closure
Canceling the Card: Closes only the debit card linked to your Venmo balance. Your Venmo account remains active.
Closing the Venmo Account: Permanently closes both your Venmo account and any linked products, including the Debit Card and Business Profile.
If you are cancelling the card due to unauthorized activity, the live support team can also help you file a dispute for the fraudulent charges.
