Being Mistreated is the most important condition of mortality, for eternity itself depends on how we view those who mistreat us.

Righteousness is simply a humble understanding of how unrighteous one is coupled with a deep commitment to become better.

Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we're going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond, I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time

Dr. Jules Hilbert: Hell Harold, you could just eat nothing but pancakes if you wanted. Harold Crick: What is wrong with you? Hey, I don't want to eat nothing but pancakes, I want to live! I mean, who in their right mind in a choice between pancakes and living chooses pancakes? Dr. Jules Hilbert: Harold, if you pause to think, you'd realize that that answer is inextricably contingent upon the type of life being led... and, of course, the quality of the pancakes.
Zach Helm (Stranger Than Fiction: The Shooting Script)
I believe that the scriptures, the Sabbath, and the temple [are] mediums of holiness extended into this unholy world.
James L. Ferrell (The Holy Secret)
Hey! Remember the '90s? The Clintons were in office, everybody was using AOL, Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri did "the Cheerleaders" on SNL, and everybody thought Oasis was fantastic. In hindsight, we were all a bunch of potato-salad-eating jackasses.
Julie Klausner (I Don't Care About Your Band: Lessons Learned from Indie Rockers, Trust Funders, Pornographers, Felons, Faux-Sensitive Hipsters, and Other Guys I've Dated)
If we place the books randomly, how are they ever found again?' She smiled. "The books just seem to know to go where they'll be found.
Sean Ferrell (Man in the Empty Suit)
As Michael pondered how shallow he had been, he was struck by another thought. It wasn't simply that he hadn't gone deep enough. It was rather that he had grown accustomed to wading in pools that had no depth to begin with. A turn toward holiness would be a turn toward a different life altogether - to a life where different things mattered than had mattered in the past. Did he desire such a life? He knew that of all the questions, this was the most important.
James L. Ferrell (The Holy Secret)
Unrest has entered the hearts of men. When unrest is left to fester, Chaos will soon follow.
S.D. Ferrell (The Shadow of Erebos (the Whipple Wash Chronicles #2))
Anything that makes me feel better (or worse) than another is darkness; anything that makes me feel one with others is divine. So the natural instinct to try to lift others by helping them to feel good about themselves relative to others is exactly the wrong way to help. True happiness is found not in a belief that I am better but in the obliteration of any need to be.
James L. Ferrell (Falling to Heaven: The Surprising Path to Happiness)
I tried to fix her but should have remembered the number one rule about fixing broken people: you always get stuck with their sharp edges.

Not having emotions would be beautiful because pain is so ugly. Watching neglect and not having the freedom to scream about it at the top of your lungs is painful. It’s hard, having a heart when people come in without one.

A heart weighed down with iniquity continually talks negatively about other people. These people are not careful in how they express themselves, either through profanity or cursing.
Ana Méndez Ferrell (Iniquity - The major hindrance to see God's glory manifested in your life.)
It was important that I experience disappointments and work for what I wanted, for it to have meaning. Besides, if life always comes easily, there would be very little passion to pour into one’s work.

Civil disobedience is being disobedient to the specific “requirement” but still honoring the position of authority. If you are civilly disobedient, you will be subjected to the consequences of that disobedience.

Medical science views the body as something independent from the soul and from the spirit. It denies the existence of the two aforementioned, and it pretends to be the one which holds the ultimate knowledge to treat a malady.

In the comedy department, I have the latest Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrell movies. For action, I have a James Bond flick and another where a bunch of shit blows up. And I have The Notebook.” I whipped around, almost dropping the silverware. “The Notebook? You own The Notebook?” Cam stared at me blankly. “What’s wrong with that?” “Oh, nothing is wrong with that. Its just such a… uh, chick flick.” “I’m confident enough in my masculinity and sexuality that I can say that Ryan Gosling is just dreamy in this movie.” My jaw hit the floor.

on this Earth, and when people from the lost world see the dwellings of God in each one of us. 4 The Operation and Manifestation of Iniquity If we could visualize the body of iniquity, it would resemble a twisted black cord in our spirit. It is made of hundreds of thick knots, with layer over layer that appear to be filthy rags, filled with lots of information and covenants that have been accumulated from generation to generation. It resembles a tailback or a shell that constantly blocks or hinders life, preventing it to flow from our spirit to our hearts and, eventually, to our minds. Iniquity produces Spiritual Deafness Many people have their spiritual ears obstructed and are unable to hear
Ana Méndez Ferrell (Iniquity - The major hindrance to see God's glory manifested in your life.)
It is no accident that the Atonement will begin, as did the Fall, in a Garden. And it is no accident as well that the individuals in those gardens were each sinless, or that the events in those gardens centered on their exercise of agency-for Adam, whether he would partake of the bitter fruit, and for the Savior, whether He would partake of the bitter cup. The Savior and Adam faced a similar choice: If they did not partake, they would become lone men in paradise. Both partook that man might be. And by partaking of that bitterness, Adam came to know good and evil, and the Savior came to know all of the good and evil that had and would transpire in the hearts of mean through all generations of time.
James L. Ferrell (The Peacegiver: How Christ Offers to Heal Our Hearts and Homes)
Something was in her mouth. Sami's tongue slid along the edges of something plastic. Flat, low ridges, holes-an adjustable strap. A baseball cap? Another taste. Hair spray. Gross. Someone had stuffed her baseball cap in her mouth, and from the feel of it they had taped it in place. Her arms were tied behind her and she lay face down on the floor-of what? Her car. The carpeting scraped her cheek every time they hit a bump. Panic flooded Sami's senses. She came instantly awake. Inhaling deeply through her nose, she willed herself to calm down. Her working motto flashed through her brain, panic never accomplished anything. Of course she had never been kidnapped and tied up before. In the dim light of passing cars, she glimpsed things-paper gum wrappers, an old straw, one whopper wrapper, a CD cover. That's where Sting went. Been looking for that for days. Man did she need to vacuum this car out. A metallic scent hit her nose. She'd recognize that smell until the day she died. Blood. And by the odor, someone had lost a great deal of it.
Suzanne Ferrell (Kidnapped (Edgers Family, #1))
The Lord's Atonement and Mercy 1. We are each of us sinners, entitled to nothing but hell and therefore utterly and equally dependent upon the mercies of the Lord. (Jonah) 2. I can receive of the Lord's mercy—and the happiness, healing, and peace that attend it—only to the extent I extend the same to others. (Jonah) 3. The Lord mercifully removes any justification for failing to extend mercy to others. (Abigail) a. For the Lord has taken the sins of others upon his own head and personally atoned for them. (Abigail) b. What possible justification could there be for demanding more for others' sins than the Lord has given? (Abigail) 4. I can recover mercy by remembering (a) Abigail's offering, (b) the Lord's question to Jonah, and (c) my own sins, the memory of which brings me to the Lord and invites me to rediscover his mercy and peace. 5. If I repent of failing to extend mercy, the Lord will supply me with everything I need and more—he will grant me his love, his companionship, his understanding, his support. He will make my burdens light. (Abigail)

By taking on political correctness so frontally, Trump has played a critical role in moving the focus of identity politics from the left, where it was born, to the right, where it is now taking root. Identity politics on the left tended to legitimate only certain identities while ignoring or denigrating others, such as European (i.e., white) ethnicity, Christian religiosity, rural residence, belief in traditional family values, and related categories. Many of Donald Trump’s working-class supporters feel they have been disregarded by the national elites. Hollywood makes movies with strong female, black, or gay characters, but few centering around people like themselves, except occasionally to make fun of them (think of Will Ferrell’s Talladega Nights).
Francis Fukuyama (Identity: The Demand for Dignity and the Politics of Resentment)
At one point, Ferrell notes that Truman actually gave thought to the sufferings of women and children should we go nuclear in Korea. As for Truman’s original decision to use two atomic bombs on Japan, most now agree that a single demonstration would have been quite enough to cause a Japanese surrender while making an attractive crater lake out of what had been Mount Fujiyama’s peak.
Gore Vidal (The Last Empire: Essays 1992-2000 (Vintage International))
I’m not your average pussy-eating muthafucka,” he continued. “I’m a connoisseur. I experience the pussy, becoming well-versed and fluent in its texture, aroma, sensitivity, and saturation. Not all pussy is the same, and since we agreed to keep it a hundred, your pussy deserves a spot in the Hall of Fame. It may be my birthday, but this shit should be celebrated, the Most Valuable Pussy.
Kimmie Ferrell (Only For Tonight)
Am I a sinner, or less of a Christian than you, because my ministry might be to aid someone other than those you feel drawn to help?” Her words were even and calm, but nonetheless, they dug deep. Julia winced. “I wasn’t pointing my finger at you.” “Ah, but weren’t you?” Wilma leaned forward, her expression soft and kind, almost giving lie to her direct words. “I’m sure you didn’t think of it that way, but aren’t you judging others for what you perceive as their sin of not caring?
Miralee Ferrell (Forget Me Not (Love Blossoms in Oregon #1.5))
The men rode into Beaver Run like two horsemen of the apocalypse, justice on a white horse and war on a red. The few citizens walking through the muddy streets hurried to get out of their path, while those milling on the plank walkways stared as the duo passed. Danger. Long and lean, both sat their saddles with the ease of men accustomed to mastering both the beasts beneath them and the world around them. Their dusters hung to the tops of their boots and were covered in trail dust. Their hats, pulled low, cast shadows over their faces. Rifles were mounted to their horses' saddles and each man had a gun strapped to his thigh.
Suzanne Ferrell (The Surrender of Lacy Morgan)
Not at all. What I mean is that God places different burdens on each heart. Can you imagine if every single Christian and pastor had the same calling? What would happen to all the other needs in the world — or even in this town, for that matter? “God calls all of us in a unique way. As none of us are created identically in appearance or how we think, or feel, we’re also not given the same gifts. “We must be responsible for where God plants us, rather than judge others for not being in the same place. That’s not to say that our calling can’t change, or we might see a hardship and strive to fix it. But if we don’t, then we’re accountable to God, rather than to one another. Does
Miralee Ferrell (Forget Me Not (Love Blossoms in Oregon #1.5))
Every infirmity originates in the devil’s territory, and for that reason is spiritual. Now, if we understand the origin of infirmity and what gives it substance, we will be able to deal with it with the spiritual weapons God has given us. Science regards this approach as insanity or religious fanaticism, but it is God who created us and not science. Darkness, in all its forms, operates over the soul and it is what produces and gives form to infirmity. Darkness, by definition are all the sins, feelings and negative forms of thought that oppose God. But what is darkness? Darkness is essentially the absence of light. Light has substance and power, darkness has no substance. Putting it in simple terms: When I turn on the lights at home, I do
Ana Méndez Ferrell (Pharmakeia a Hidden Assassin)
Our appreciation for what Christ did for us will fall abysmally short if we think that he fell on his face merely at the prospect of suffering for a few mortal hours, however excruciating that suffering might be. Both in impact, kind, and degree, what happens in Gethsemane cannot be marked merely by the clock of this fallen realm. Indeed, its impact could be felt from the days of Adam and Eve, even though by the reckoning of this earth it hadn't yet happened. The Atonement happened as much outside this time as within it, thought what was outside we cannot hope to grasp. It was and is an infinite eternal act, unbounded by the limitations of mortality. No wonder the Savior trembled at the thought of it, and 'would that he might not drink the bitter cup.' Mortal minds, with their earth-bound limitation, cannot comprehend the immensity of it.
James L. Ferrell (The Peacegiver: How Christ Offers to Heal Our Hearts and Homes)
Dear reader, the Book of Acts did not end in the first century. It continues to be written through those who believe God and have penetrated the Kingdom of God. How can we do this? Simply by following the example of the apostle John and others who practiced being in the Spirit, or entering the realm of His glory, as an essential part of their spiritual lives. Being in the Spirit is a state of deep intimacy with God through which the spirit of man becomes hypersensitive to the presence of God. This is the position from which revelation and visions of the heavenly Kingdom are seen in full. The Kingdom of God is among us; only a thin, transparent membrane separates us from it. When we know God intimately, that membrane breaks. Our faith and love of God and time spent alone with Him allow us to pass to the other side. There, He becomes visible and audible and gives us great revelations.

Laughter greeted Clint’s ears at the open doorway—rich, soft laughter, like the creamy center of a melted caramel. The kind of laughter that made you want to wrap yourself up in it and stay a while. Clint stopped in the doorway, spellbound. The boys sat on different sides of an antique four-poster bed, sunk knee-deep in patchwork quilts, sheets and what he would swear was an old fashioned feather-tick mattress. But it was the vision between the little boys that held Clint’s attention. Emma Lewis had the same rich, dark, burnt-copper hair as her sons, and the burns-if-she’s-out-in-the-sun-longer-than-one-hour skin of most redheads. Beneath the wrinkled T-shirt and jeans she’d fallen asleep in, he could tell she was neither too thin nor too heavy, just the luscious type of figure Clint decided long ago he liked on women. She also possessed that wonderful laughter that had stirred more than his heart to life. But when she raised the deepest cornflower-blue eyes to him, Clint nearly moaned. If he let himself, he could get lost in that open, clear gaze forever. “Can I help you?” The remnants of sleep in her voice brought on visions of hearing her voice after a night of endless passion.

My problem is that red flags are my favorite attribute in a man.

The Son of God was manifested to destroy the works of the devil, not only on the face of the earth, but to the depths of hell where they originate. The Word of faith decreed from a spirit united to Jesus does not stop on the surface of the earth. It has power to penetrate the heavens, hell, and the invisible world.

When we embrace self-compassion, we embrace all the parts of who we are - the strengths and weaknesses, the joys and sorrows, the successes and failures. It's about shedding the armor of self-criticism and allowing ourselves to be vulnerable, just as we are, imperfect yet deserving of love and kindness.

We have centralized ministry to the point that we assume that ministry only happens when the church is working together in an organized, programmed effort.
Curtis Ferrell (The Way to Discipleship: Thinking Well About the Kingdom of God)
Conversations in the new country will center more around what people have been saved FOR and less about what people have been saved FROM.
Curtis Ferrell (The Way to Discipleship: Thinking Well About the Kingdom of God)
In practice, discipleship has become an optional “add-on” for extra credit in our pursuit of Christ.
Curtis Ferrell (The Way to Discipleship: Thinking Well About the Kingdom of God)
If discipleship is the church’s moonshot, we are headed for deep space and a cold, dark future.
Curtis Ferrell (The Way to Discipleship: Thinking Well About the Kingdom of God)
A simple definition of the Kingdom of God is that his kingdom exists everywhere God’s rule extends, AND his will is done.
Curtis Ferrell (The Way to Discipleship: Thinking Well About the Kingdom of God)
God did not instantaneously create a perfect, self-governing world. He created a world that required his action, in time, to make it good.
Curtis Ferrell (The Way to Discipleship: Thinking Well About the Kingdom of God)
There is no human who is purposeless; there are only people who don’t know that God intentionally designed them to represent him in this world.
Curtis Ferrell (The Way to Discipleship: Thinking Well About the Kingdom of God)
Our understanding of the word “gospel” is not so much wrong as it is limited.
Curtis Ferrell (The Way to Discipleship: Thinking Well About the Kingdom of God)
We must preach the gospel of the Kingdom of God, purchased, and secured by Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, who was validated by the resurrection (Romans 1:4). And we must preach it so consistently that when we say the word “gospel” no one can misunderstand it to mean saying a magic prayer that purchases a ticket to heaven.
Curtis Ferrell (The Way to Discipleship: Thinking Well About the Kingdom of God)
My contention is that “to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever” is a byproduct of the chief end of man, NOT the purpose of man. The purpose of mankind is to revere God and keep his commands, and the byproduct of doing that will result in us glorifying God and enjoying him forever.
Curtis Ferrell (The Way to Discipleship: Thinking Well About the Kingdom of God)
We must design discipleship paths that look more like apprenticeships; that make room for opportunities to live out learned truths.
Curtis Ferrell (The Way to Discipleship: Thinking Well About the Kingdom of God)
Discipleship is both orthodoxy (learning and believing truth about God) and orthopraxy (learning how to live-out that truth). In sports we would say it’s about learning the playbook AND running the drills.
Curtis Ferrell (The Way to Discipleship: Thinking Well About the Kingdom of God)
Discipleship is not about making Christians fit for eternal life. We must see discipleship as equipping people to accomplish their Genesis Commission mandate. Discipleship is about equipping people to be God’s representatives and stewards in this life as we advance the Kingdom of God.
Curtis Ferrell (The Way to Discipleship: Thinking Well About the Kingdom of God)
We know that it’s God who saves people, and it’s the Holy Spirit who convicts people of sin. Our job is to partner with God, so the question is what is our role in the partnership? Jesus tells us it is making disciples, teaching them to observe all he has commanded.
Curtis Ferrell (The Way to Discipleship: Thinking Well About the Kingdom of God)
The task of making disciples is a partnership. The Holy Spirit convicts people of sin; they are reconciled to God the Father through the sacrifice of Jesus his Son; and the church makes disciples of them, who then make disciples who make disciples.
Curtis Ferrell (The Way to Discipleship: Thinking Well About the Kingdom of God)
The [Great Commission phrase] “of all nations” in effect meant “not just the children of Israel.” It wasn’t about overseas missions; it was about the Kingdom of God destroying the ethnic divisions and the religious pride of Jewish believers. He wants us to invite ALL people into the Kingdom of God!
