As a member of the *magisterial Reformation, Calvin used his legal and theological training to shape the reform of Geneva around biblical principles. Toward that end, he wrote the *Geneva Catechism and a new *liturgy, and he kept revising the Institutes until its fourth and definitive edition in 1559, which together with his biblical commentaries shaped the identity of Reformed *orthodoxy beyond the influence of Ulrich *Zwingli.
