Napoleón murió preso en un islote en medio de los mares, y los demás escaparon de milagro [...] Napoleón en Europa se encerraba en sí mismo; Bolívar en América quería estar en todas partes. Napoleón quería gobernar al género humano; Bolívar quería que se gobernara por sí. Napoleón no suspiraba por la Córcega cuando era General del Ejército de Italia; mucho menos cuando se vio de Primer Cónsul, de Cónsul Vitalicio, de Emperador, ¡de Yerno de un Emperador! Napoleón se infló y se elevó como un globo, le faltó el gas y fue a caer en un islote, en medio de los mares. A Bolívar sus paisanos lo proscribieron, y ya con el pie en el barco, lo reclamó en Santa Marta, pero fue para enterrarlo.
