I believe the first draft of a book — even a long one — should take no more than three months…Any longer and — for me, at least — the story begins to take on an odd foreign feel, like a dispatch from the Romanian Department of Public Affairs, or something broadcast on high-band shortwave duiring a period of severe sunspot activity.

We were born in the mist of time on this land together with the oaks and fir trees. We are bound to it not only by the bread and existence it furnishes us as we toil on it, but also by all the bones of our ancestors who sleep in its ground. All our parents are here. All our memories, all our war-like glory, all our history here, in this land lies buried. . . . By what right do the Jews wish to take this land from us? Besides being a writer, I experienced seven other careers/jobs along the years: photographer, model, fashion stylist, DJ, design shop assistant, waitress, cook, retoucher. I learned to work with film and cameras that were thrice my age. I learned to work with my curiosity to make people dance and laugh. I learned to work with my body to sell clothes and convey emotions. I learned everything I could about mid-century modern design and I can still tell one piece from another and recognize a fake today. Sometimes I forget about this past decade, where I did all these things for a living. Then I see pictures and I remember that I did them all with love. I had a lot of fun. And I gained a lot of skills
