The most notable feature of the creator of the common man was that he was completely lacking in the common touch. To all but a close circle of personal friends and a coterie of the editors he worked with, RK Laxman was arrogant to the point of rudeness. Forget about not tolerating fools, he didn't even tolerate anyone who wasn't in the vicinity of his intellectual altitude. Only part of it can be attributed to his typical Tam-Bhram cynicism.
