Hope is a real and tangible experience. Even secular hope. The scientific community now considers that this characteristic of the human species is one of the most powerful survival mechanisms existing in nature, for example in reacting to illness. It is one of the most complex qualities, which ensures that our brain is equipped with chemical targets upon which social interaction, words, and thoughts can have an effective impact. In light of the most recent discoveries, it has been found that trust, expectations, positive feelings move a myriad of molecules, and that this important psychological component uses the same mechanisms as medicines, activating in the end the same biochemical paths. In short, human hope is far more than an illusion and is far more even than simple trust: It is in fact a medicine and a cure.
