Most of life is offline, and I think it always will be; eating and aching and sleeping and loving happen in the body. But it's not impossible to imagine losing my appetite for those things; they aren't always easy, and they take so much time. In twenty years I'd be interviewing air and water and heat just to remember they mattered.

As if I feared that the scope of what I could feel and imagine was being quietly limited by the world within a world, the internet. The things outside of the web were becoming further from me, and everything inside it seemed piercingly relevant. The blogs of strangers had to be read daily, and people nearby who had no web presence were becoming almost cartoonlike, as if they were missing a dimension.
It was just happening, like time, like geography. The web seemed so inherently endless that it didn't occur to me what wasn't there. My appetite for pictures and videos and news and music was so gigantic now that if something was shrinking, something immesurable, how would I notice?

Some people (like singularly unhelpful and clearly underqualified physical therapists, unsympathetic GPs, and that supremely irritating second cousin who ate all the stuffing at Christmas) assumed that a lack of feeling in certain body parts shouldn’t affect sleep at all. Her insomnia in such situations, they said, was something she could easily overcome. Chloe liked to remind those people that the human brain tended to keep track of all body parts, and was prone to panic when one of those parts went offline. Actually, what Chloe liked to do was imagine hitting those people with a brick.

...while epic fantasy is based on the fairy tale of the just war, that’s not one you’ll find in Grimm or Disney, and most will never recognize the shape of it. I think the fantasy genre pitches its tent in the medieval campground for the very reason that we even bother to write stories about things that never happened in the first place: because it says something subtle and true about our own world, something it is difficult to say straight out, with a straight face. Something you need tools to say, you need cheat codes for the human brain--a candy princess or a sugar-coated unicorn to wash down the sour taste of how bad things can really get.
See, I think our culture has a slash running through the middle of it, too. Past/Future, Conservative/Liberal, Online/Offline. Virgin/Whore. And yes: Classical/Medieval. I think we’re torn between the Classical Narrative of Self and the Medieval Narrative of Self, between the choice of Achilles and Keep Calm and Carry On.
The Classical internal monologue goes like this: do anything, anything, only don’t be forgotten. Yes, this one sacrificed his daughter on a slab at Aulis, that one married his mother and tore out his eyes, and oh that guy ate his kids in a pie. But you remember their names, don’t you? So it’s all good in the end. Give a Greek soul a choice between a short life full of glory and a name echoing down the halls of time and a long, gentle life full of children and a quiet sort of virtue, and he’ll always go down in flames. That’s what the Iliad is all about, and the Odyssey too. When you get to Hades, you gotta have a story to tell, because the rest of eternity is just forgetting and hoping some mortal shows up on a quest and lets you drink blood from a bowl so you can remember who you were for one hour.
And every bit of cultural narrative in America says that we are all Odysseus, we are all Agamemnon, all Atreus, all Achilles. That we as a nation made that choice and chose glory and personal valor, and woe betide any inconvenient “other people” who get in our way. We tell the tales around the campfire of men who came from nothing to run dotcom empires, of a million dollars made overnight, of an actress marrying a prince from Monaco, of athletes and stars and artists and cowboys and gangsters and bootleggers and talk show hosts who hitched up their bootstraps and bent the world to their will. Whose names you all know. And we say: that can be each and every one of us and if it isn’t, it’s your fault. You didn’t have the excellence for it. You didn’t work hard enough. The story wasn’t about you, and the only good stories are the kind that have big, unignorable, undeniable heroes.

As a medium, the internet is defined by a built-in performance incentive. In real life, you can walk around living life and be visible to other people. But you can’t just walk around and be visible on the internet—for anyone to see you, you have to act. You have to communicate in order to maintain an internet presence. And, because the internet’s central platforms are built around personal profiles, it can seem—first at a mechanical level, and later on as an encoded instinct—like the main purpose of this communication is to make yourself look good. Let’s step back. Every year between 1950 and 2000, Americans increased their productivity about 1 to 4 percent.1 Since 2005, however, this growth has slowed in advanced economies, with a productivity decrease recorded in the United States in 2016.2 Maybe our rapidly evolving technology that promises us near-limitless options to keep us busy is not, in fact, making us more productive? One possible explanation for our productivity slowdown is that we’re paralyzed by information overload. As Daniel Levitin writes in The Organized Mind, information overload is worse for our focus than exhaustion or smoking marijuana.3 It stands to reason, then, that to be more productive we need a way to stem the tide of digital distractions. Enter the Bullet Journal, an analog solution that provides the offline space needed to process, to think, and to focus. When you open your notebook, you automatically unplug. It momentarily pauses the influx of information so your mind can catch up. Things become less of a blur, and you can finally examine your life with greater clarity.

Twitter is real life; it’s realer than real life, because that is the realm that the social economy of publishing exists on, because the industry has no alternative. Offline, writers are all faceless, hypothetical creatures pounding out words in isolation from one another. You can’t peek over anyone’s shoulder. You can’t tell if everyone else is really doing as dandy as they pretend they are. But online, you can tune into all the hot gossip, even if you’re not nearly important enough to have a seat in the room where it happens. Online, you can tell Stephen King to go fuck himself. Online, you can discover that the current literary star of the moment is actually so problematic that all of her works should be canceled, forever. Reputations in publishing are built and destroyed, constantly, online.

We have generated billions of dollars for social media platforms through our desire—and then through a subsequent, escalating economic and cultural requirement—to replicate for the internet who we know, who we think we are, who we want to be. Selfhood buckles under the weight of this commercial importance. In physical spaces, there’s a limited audience and time span for every performance. Online, your audience can hypothetically keep expanding forever, and the performance never has to end. (You can essentially be on a job interview in perpetuity.) In real life, the success or failure of each individual performance often plays out in the form of concrete, physical action—you get invited over for dinner, or you lose the friendship, or you get the job. Online, performance is mostly arrested in the nebulous realm of sentiment, through an unbroken stream of hearts and likes and eyeballs, aggregated in numbers attached to your name. Worst of all, there’s essentially no backstage on the internet; where the offline audience necessarily empties out and changes over, the online audience never has to leave.

My dear readers, I find myself perplexed by the phantoms that now inhabit our veins and perpetually whisper in our ears. These specters are always watching, their formless eyes casting judgement upon our every thought and action. They stalk us behind screens and within circuits, gathering each tidbit we release into the ether to build their ever-growing profiles of our souls.
Through these ghastly portals, our lives have become performance. Each waking moment an opportunity to curate our images and broadcast our cleverness. Nuance has fled in favor of hashtag and like, while meaning has been diced into 280 characters or less.
Substance is sacrificed at the altar of shareability, as we optimize each motive and emotion to become more digestible digital content. Authenticity now lives only in offline obscurity, while our online avatars march on endlessly, seeking validation through numbers rather than depth.
What secrets remain unshared on these platforms of glass? What mysteries stay concealed behind profiles and pose? Have we traded intimacy for influence, and true understanding for audience engagement?
I fear these shadow networks breed narcissism and foster loneliness, masked as connection. That the sum of a life’s joys and sorrows can now be reduced to a reel of carefully selected snippets says little of the richness that once was.
So follow the phantoms that stalk you if you will, but do not forget that which still breathes beneath the screens. There you will find humanity, flawed but whole, beautiful in its imperfection and trajectory undefined by likes or loves.
The lanterns may flicker and fade, but the darkness that remains has always held truth. Look deeper than the glow, and know that which can never be shared or measured, only felt.
In mystery,

Having studied workplace leadership styles since the 1970s, Kets de Vries confirmed that language is a critical clue when determining if a company has become too cultish for comfort. Red flags should rise when there are too many pep talks, slogans, singsongs, code words, and too much meaningless corporate jargon, he said. Most of us have encountered some dialect of hollow workplace gibberish. Corporate BS generators are easy to find on the web (and fun to play with), churning out phrases like “rapidiously orchestrating market-driven deliverables” and “progressively cloudifying world-class human capital.” At my old fashion magazine job, employees were always throwing around woo-woo metaphors like “synergy” (the state of being on the same page), “move the needle” (make noticeable progress), and “mindshare” (something having to do with a brand’s popularity? I’m still not sure). My old boss especially loved when everyone needlessly transformed nouns into transitive verbs and vice versa—“whiteboard” to “whiteboarding,” “sunset” to “sunsetting,” the verb “ask” to the noun “ask.” People did it even when it was obvious they didn’t know quite what they were saying or why. Naturally, I was always creeped out by this conformism and enjoyed parodying it in my free time. In her memoir Uncanny Valley, tech reporter Anna Wiener christened all forms of corporate vernacular “garbage language.” Garbage language has been around since long before Silicon Valley, though its themes have changed with the times. In the 1980s, it reeked of the stock exchange: “buy-in,” “leverage,” “volatility.” The ’90s brought computer imagery: “bandwidth,” “ping me,” “let’s take this offline.” In the twenty-first century, with start-up culture and the dissolution of work-life separation (the Google ball pits and in-office massage therapists) in combination with movements toward “transparency” and “inclusion,” we got mystical, politically correct, self-empowerment language: “holistic,” “actualize,” “alignment.

The bottom line is that when members of iGen arrived on campus, beginning in the fall of 2013, they had accumulated less unsupervised time and fewer offline life experiences than had any previous generation. As Twenge puts it, “18-year-olds now act like 15-year-olds used to, and 13-year-olds like 10-year-olds. Teens are physically safer than ever, yet they are more mentally vulnerable.”9 Most of these trends are showing up across social classes, races, and ethnicities.10 Members of iGen, therefore, may not (on average) be as ready for college as were eighteen-year-olds of previous generations. This might explain why college students are suddenly asking for more protection and adult intervention in their affairs and interpersonal conflicts. The second major generational change is a rapid rise in rates of anxiety and depression.11 We created three graphs below using the same data that Twenge reports in iGen.

If your long path is short-circuited by stress, and your brain is using the short path instead, you might be so alarmed at the mere thought of a shark that you have a panic attack just thinking about taking a swim in the ocean. All the body’s machinery of FFF then gets engaged by this imaginary threat, just as if you were nose to nose with Jaws. Your gut clenches, your heart races, your breathing becomes fast and shallow, and your focus narrows to the point where you can’t think about anything other than the threat. This takes a huge biological toll on the body. High adrenaline produces dramatic reductions in life span. Stressed people have much more disease and live much shorter lives than unstressed people. Whatever form stress takes—depression, anxiety, or PTSD—correlates with higher rates of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. The deficits in the life spans of stressed people are measured in decades rather than years. In meditators, the amygdala is quiet. It becomes even quieter with practice. The difference in amygdala activation between the longest-term meditators and their less-experienced peers has been measured. The adepts show 400% less reactivity to stressful events. But even in novices who practice mindfulness for 30 hours over 8 weeks, decreased amygdala activity is found. Other structures within the midbrain or limbic system work together with the hippocampus and amygdala. One of them, the thalamus, is like a relay station. Close to the corpus callosum, it identifies information coming in from the senses like touch, hearing, and taste, and directs it to the consciousness centers of the prefrontal cortex. The thalamus typically becomes more active during meditation, as it works harder to suppress sensory input (like “that buzzing mosquito” or “this chair is too hard”) that pulls us out of Bliss Brain. With the hippocampus regulating emotion, the thalamus regulating sensory input, and the long path in good working order, stress-inducing signals aren’t sent to the amygdala. In turn, all the body’s FFF machinery remains offline. This produces corresponding biological benefits. Heart rhythm is even. Respiration is deep and slow. Digestion is effective. Immunity is high. That’s why so many studies show pervasive health and longevity benefits among meditators.

The greater the degree of empathy experienced, the greater the activation of the empathy circuit. The ventromedial PFC and the dorsolateral PFC are two relatively small and specialized parts of the PFC. In meditators, the “selfing” parts of the PFC go offline during practice. Brain scans of meditating monks show that the parts of the PFC that construct our personalities go dark, with energy usage dropping by as much as 40%—the “transient hypofrontality” noted by neuroscientists in Chapter 2. Newberg finds that many different types of practitioners “get out of their heads,” from Brazilian shamans to Pentecostals who are “speaking in tongues.” While we’re in meditation, we lose our identification with our stories about ourselves and the world. For a while, we stop selfing. We forget I-me-mine. The bonds that keep our consciousness stuck in ego, in looking good, in remembering who we like and dislike, in playing our roles—and all the suffering that accompanies these things—are loosened. That frees us up to enter nonlocal mind, and bond with a consciousness greater than our local selves. Newberg describes it this way: “The person literally feels as if her own self is dissolving. There is no ‘I’—just the totality of a singular awareness or experience.” The paradox of enlightenment is that we have to lose our personalities to find bliss. While the thinking abilities of the PFC are our biggest asset in everyday life, they’re our biggest obstacle to experiencing oneness. It’s the ego that separates us from the universe, and when it goes offline, we join the mystery.

Whether it be brand marketers trumpeting the new BMW X5, game developers getting players to spend real money on virtual goods, or someone selling an online nursing degree, the only difference is the time frame in which those different goals occur—in other words, the time between attention and action. If the time frame is very short, like browsing for and buying a shirt at nordstroms.com, it’s called “direct response,” or “DR” advertising. If the time frame is very long, such as making you believe life is unlivable outside the pricey mantle of a Burberry coat, it’s called “brand advertising.” Note that the goal is the same in both: to make you buy shit you likely don’t need with money you likely don’t have. In the former case, the trail is easily trackable, as the “conversion” usually happens online, usually after clicking on the very ad you were served.* In the latter, the media employed is a multipronged strategy of Super Bowl ads, Internet advertising, postal mail, free keychains, and God knows what else. Also, the conversion happens way after the initial exposure to the media, and often offline and in a physical space, like at a car dealership. The tracking and attribution are much harder, due to both the manifold media used and the months or years gone by between the exposure and the sale. As such, brand advertising budgets, which are far larger than direct-response ones, are spent in embarrassingly large broadsides, barely targeted or tracked in any way. Now you know all there is to know about advertising. The rest is technical detail and self-promoting bullshit spun by agencies. You’re officially as informed as the media tycoons who run the handful of agencies that manage our media world.

So what about atheism? Well, it doesn’t take a lot of thought to realize that atheism causes all manner of actions. For a non-belief, it leads a pretty busy and exciting life. For example, many Internet-dwelling atheists spend hundreds of hours reading sceptical websites, editing Wikipedia articles, writing angry blogs, frequenting atheist discussion forums, and posting snarky anti-religious remarks on Twitter. These look very much like actions to me. Actions, I presume, caused by their atheism. The same applies offline too. I know many atheists who attend conferences, buy T-shirts with atheist slogans, or fasten amusing atheist bumper stickers to their Hondas. Some, like Richard Dawkins, write books. Now, there’s a puzzler. Why did Richard Dawkins write The God Delusion? We’ve asked that question before, but now we can come at it from a different angle. What was it that drove him to pour endless hours into typing, drafting, editing, and refining? Presumably, it was his atheism. Likewise, it was atheism that led many enthusiastic young sceptics to rush out and buy it, causing, if not much rejoicing in heaven, certainly much celebration in the North Oxford branch of whomever Dawkins banks with. For a non-belief, a non-thing, atheism looks extraordinarily lively, and thus we need to be a little suspicious of anybody who tells us that atheism is nothing at all.

Online community, between people who have usually never met and share only select aspects of their lives, presumes inclusion and belonging through communicational modes that borrow from successful real-life intimacy. It prioritizes openness and transparency, encourages emotional response (albeit
in a limited way through, for example, Facebook’s ever-powerful ‘like’
button), and claims to promote consensus. This rhetoric of openness and
sharing—a presumption of egalitarian transparency—is inherent in the
corporate mantra of Google (‘Do no evil’), Facebook (‘making the Web more
social’), and Flickr-Yahoo (‘Share your pictures, watch the world’). Yet just as inner-city windows might present an illusion of togetherness in which isolation is actually the norm, this presumed openness of virtual
communities hides the fact that inclusion in social media can be fickle and conditional; digital citizenship hides multiple power dynamics and relations, not all of which are explicitly stated. Whereas there has been some discussion of the meanings of digital citizenship (to mean the accepted norms
of appropriate, responsible technology use), online ‘community’ is invoked
as a given. The Professor of Media Studies at Utrecht University, José van Dijck, refers in her discussion of social media’s history to ‘community function’ and ‘community character’; ‘community collectivism’ and
‘community utilization’; and to ‘community’ itself as being innovative, organizational, self-selecting, and open. But community, like citizenship, carries an enormous functional, symbolic, and practical weight.
What kinds of ‘community’ are being forged online, and how do they impact on self-esteem, a sense of belonging, and self-identity? How does online community differ from offline community, and how and why does loneliness result?

REMEMBER THIS •Internal triggers drive behavior. To understand how to help kids manage distraction, we need to start by understanding the source of the problem. •Our kids need psychological nutrients. According to a widely accepted theory of human motivation, all people need three things to thrive: a sense of autonomy, competence, and relatedness. •Distractions satisfy deficiencies. When our kids’ psychological needs are not met in the real world, they go looking for satisfaction—often in virtual environments. •Kids need alternatives. Parents and guardians can take steps to help kids find balance between their online and offline worlds by providing more offline opportunities to find autonomy, competence, and relatedness. •The four-part Indistractable Model is valuable for kids as well. Teach them methods for handling distraction, and, most important, model being indistractable yourself.

When we sleep, our brains go offline. We drift away from consciousness. The noise and the static quiet. Our brains shift in and out of the frontal lobe. We enter into something called slow-wave sleep, and beyond that, REM sleep—the deepest level of sleep, the state in which we dream. Ironically, our brains are nearly as active during REM sleep as they are during waking life, with remarkable bursts of electrical activity.

there are crucial differences between the right hemisphere of the brain and the left. The left brain is the thinking brain as it is highly verbal and analytical. It operates as a conscious emotion regulation system that can modulate low to medium arousal. It is the domain of cognitive strategies as it processes highly verbal emotions such as guilt and worrisome anxiety. In contrast, the right hemisphere is the emotional brain. It processes all of our intense emotions, regardless of whether they are negative, such as rage, fear, terror, disgust, shame and hopeless despair, or positive such as excitement, surprise, and joy. When our level of emotional arousal escalates the left hemisphere goes off-line and the right hemisphere dominates. Our right brain enables us to read the subjective state of others through its appraisal of subtle facial (visual and auditory) expressions and other forms of nonverbal communication. The right hemisphere is more holistic than the left, holding many different possibilities simultaneously. Dreams, music, poetry, art, metaphor and other creative processes originate in the right hemisphere. The first critical period of development of the right brain begins during the third trimester of pregnancy and this growth spurt continues into the second year of life. It is primarily the right brain which is shaped by our early relational environment and which is crucial for the development of emotional security. Around two months after birth the right anterior cingulate comes on-line, meaning that it allows for more complex processing of social-emotional information than the earlier maturing amygdala. It is responsible for developing attachment behavior. Starting from about tenth months after birth, the highest level of the emotional brain, the right orbitofrontal cortex, becomes active. It continues developing for the next twenty years and remains exceptionally plastic throughout our entire life span. During the second year of life the right orbitofrontal cortex establishes strong, bidirectional connections with the rest of the limbic system. Once these connections are established it then monitors, refines, and regulates amygdala-

her takes a good deal of clinical experience. More importantly, the therapist needs to have worked deeply with her own early life experiences, and has to actively work with it throughout the life span. A successful therapeutic relation precipitates emotional growth not only in the patient but also in the therapist. Sieff refered to the fact that short-term cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is currently very popular and widely used. Can it help with healing relational trauma? Schore answered that CBT is grounded in cognitive psychology, and its research base is grounded cognitive processes such as explicit memory, rational thought, language, and effortful conscious control. Cognitively based therapy’s basic theoretical assumption is grounded in the assumption that we can change how we feel by consciously changing how we think and what we believe. This means that cognitive therapy focuses on language and thought, both of which are located in the left brain. People who have trouble regulating their emotions typically have a left brain that is already more developed than their right brain, and they may well have learned to use rational thinking and words to obscure the deeper emotional experiences and to keep them dissociated. Cognitive therapy may strengthen the very strategies that keep the affect dampening defense of dissociation in place. Even if the left brain becomes more able to control the emotions of the right brain, it can only control emotional arousal that is of low or moderate intensity. As a rule, when emotional arousal reaches a certain level of intensity the left brain goes off-line and the right brain becomes dominant. Changes made in the cognitive strategies of the left brain are unavailable when this happens. At these times, emotionally-focused therapy may enhance the neural connections between the right amygdala and the right orbifrontal cortex which allows the patient to more effectively tolerate and regulate intense emotions. Cognitive therapy which exclusively focuses on the ability of the left brain to control the right cannot directly alter changes within the right-lateralized limbic system. The

There’s an assumption out there that good leaders are decisive and clear. They know the priorities and don’t let themselves get tangled up in agonizing thoughts about details. If you’re an executive, you want others to see you this way. Decisiveness gives the impression of confidence. And confidence helps others have confidence in you.
As an entrepreneur, professional or executive, you know that making decisions is a large part of your daily life. You signed up for this – making decisions, big and small.
So what make it difficult for smart, driven executives to be fully decisive?
Indecisiveness is not just about decision fatigue or over-responsibility, although they may play a role.
It’s about your executive functioning (EF) and how you’re managing it.
To make difficult decisions, you need great EF – the brain-based skills for goal-directed behaviour and everything that goes with it. By virtue of where you are in your career, your EF is already well developed. And yet, you’d like to be more decisive.
So what’s going on when you feel stuck in indecisiveness?
Your particular brand of EF – your brain profile – may be highly comfortable with abstract thinking. Perhaps too comfortable. And that’s what can take you into endless ambivalence.
Have you noticed that when you can’t land on a decision, there’s a sense of not quite settling? If you’re accustomed to thinking in the abstract, you may find it uncomfortable to land on a choice.
If you want to be muscularly decisive, look at your emotions.
Are they heightened? Triggered? If so, your EF will definitely go offline. You’ll experience mental fog, poor focus, and rumination.
How do you respond when you’re triggered? Do you put your emotions aside? Do you tell yourself there’s no time during the work day to deal with them?
Emotions don’t go away just because you decided not to pay attention to them. They’re still there, bubbling under the surface. If you try to think past the emotions, you won’t be effective. EF functions best when the brain is calm and clear.
But emotions are very useful too – when you choose to pay attention to them. They’re a gold mine of information about risks, values, priorities and self-management. You need a balance of emotional information and facts to make a good decision. The most powerful leaders make decisions with a combination of intuition, past experience, emotional intelligence and cognitive flexibility. If you cut off these valuable data sets, the result will be indecisiveness.
So how do you become confidently decisive?
1. Check in.
Ask yourself:
Who do I want to be as I make this decision?
In what way may I be too comfortable with the abstract?
What might I be resisting?
Recognize that No decision IS a decision.
Ask yourself:
How do I benefit from making no decision?
What if no decision is the best decision?
Commit to making a decision anyway.
Ask yourself:
In what way can I make this decision more clear?
Who will I be once I’ve made this decision?
Accept that some ‘good’ decisions will feel uncomfortable.
Ask yourself:
What do I believe about what makes a good decision?
What will deepen my comfort with what I don’t have control over?
You can be a good leader and still be indecisive from time to time.
The next time you have a difficult decision to make, draw from both emotional and factual information.
And don’t forget to enjoy the afterglow of clarity!
With love and gratitude,
Lynda

My father, a retired schoolteacher, has always been cautious with his money. He worked hard his entire life to build a modest retirement fund and trusted that it would support him in his golden years. So, when he told me about an “exclusive” investment opportunity in cryptocurrency that promised high returns, I was immediately suspicious. But he was convinced it was legitimate—after all, the website looked professional, and the salesperson had been so persuasive over the phone. Despite my warnings, he invested 15,000 USD of his savings. At first, everything seemed fine. He received regular updates and saw “profits” reflected in his online account. But when he tried to withdraw some money, the website suddenly went offline, and the phone number was disconnected. My father was devastated. He had been scammed, and his hard-earned savings were gone. I knew I had to act quickly. I reached out to TECH CYBER FORCE RECOVERY, a company I had read about online that specialized in tracing online fraud. I explained the situation, providing them with all the details: the fake website, the transaction records, and even the emails from the scammer. The team at TECH CYBER FORCE RECOVERY was incredibly understanding and assured me they would do everything possible to help. Using their expertise in digital forensics, they traced the scammer’s digital footprint and identified the offshore account where the money had been transferred. They worked tirelessly with international authorities to freeze the account and recover the funds. Within a few weeks, they successfully returned the 15,000 USD to my father. The relief on his face was indescribable. Not only had TECH CYBER FORCE RECOVERY restored his savings, but they had also given him peace of mind. They even took the time to educate him on how to spot investment scams in the future, empowering him to protect himself. This brought our family closer together. My father now understands the importance of skepticism and due diligence, and I’m grateful to TECH CYBER FORCE RECOVERY for their incredible work. They didn’t just recover money, they restored my father’s faith in justice and gave him a second chance to enjoy his retirement.

Aware of the new technologies that were out there, I also recommended the use of laptop computers for flight crew management and control. The use of the on-orbit displays and controls made possible through the laptop, when ultimately instituted, has since paid for itself many times over. I also recommended we use offline computers such as ThinkPads to aid the shuttle during ascent and entry so that we could freeze the guidance, control, and navigation software if necessary. That idea too was rejected. To those who regularly turned me down, I always asked, “So, do you have a better idea?” This time around I asked thirty-two folks, none of whom returned a single suggestion.

It is this heightened state that may produce several relatively new phenomena in childhood today. As the clinical psychologist Catherine Steiner-Adair,10 the author of The Big Disconnect: Protecting Childhood and Family Relationships in the Digital Age, observes, the most commonly heard complaint when children are asked to go off-line is “I’m bored.” Confronted with the dazzling possibilities for their attention on a nearby screen, young children quickly become awash with, then accustomed to, and ever so gradually semi-addicted to continuous sensory stimulation. When the constant level of stimulation is taken away, the children respond predictably with a seemingly overwhelming state of boredom. “I’m Bored.” There are different kinds of boredom. There is a natural boredom that is part of the woof of childhood that can often provide children with the impetus to create their own forms of entertainment and just plain fun. This is the boredom that Walter Benjamin described years ago as the “dream bird that hatches the egg of experience.”11 But there may also be an unnatural, culturally induced, new form of boredom that follows too much digital stimulation. This form of boredom may de-animate children in such a fashion as to prevent them from wanting to explore and create real-world experiences for themselves, particularly outside their rooms, houses, and schools. As Steiner-Adair wrote, “If they become addicted to playing on screens,12 children will not know how to move through that fugue state they call boredom, which is often a necessary prelude to creativity.” It would be an intellectual shame to think that in the spirit of giving our children as much as we can through the many creative offerings of the latest, enhanced e-books and technological innovations, we may inadvertently deprive them of the motivation and time necessary to build their own images of what is read and to construct their own imaginative off-line worlds that are the invisible habitats of childhood. Such cautions are neither a matter of nostalgic lament nor an exclusion of the powerful, exciting uses of the child’s imagination fostered by technology. We will return to such uses a little later. Nor should worries over a “lost childhood” be dismissed as a cultural (read Western) luxury. What of the real lost childhoods? one might ask, in which the daily struggle to survive trumps everything else? Those children are never far from my thoughts or my work every day of my life.

People need to live their lives,” she reminded me. “Clearly part of living our lives, I think, needs to be resisting those systems that are dominating us and controlling us and making us afraid to speak our minds. But I would say that people should get offline sometimes. Leave your phone at home. Go for a walk with your friend or your lover. Go into the woods . . . Swim in a pond where nobody can see you. Try to actually enjoy privacy sometimes. Get away from the Internet and have a life that’s independent of that kind of shit.

Over the ensuing five years, Tencent painstakingly built WeChat into the world’s first super-app. It became a “remote control for life” that dominated not just users’ digital worlds but allowed them to pay at restaurants, hail taxis, unlock shared bikes, manage investments, book doctors’ appointments, and have those doctors’ prescriptions delivered to your door. This metastasizing functionality would blur the lines dividing our online and offline worlds, both molding and feeding off of China’s alternate internet universe.

What to Do if You Forget Your Coinbase Wallet Passkey: A Complete Guid
If you need immediate assistance, you can reach Coinbase support at +1-855-574-4551 for general inquiries and support.
Unlike centralized platforms, Coinbase Wallet doesn’t store your private information on its servers, so if you forget your passkey, it’s not as simple as requesting a reset link. However, there are still ways to recover your wallet and regain access to your funds. In this guide, we’ll take you through the recovery process step by step.
What is the Coinbase Wallet Passkey?
The Coinbase Wallet passkey is a personal password you create when setting up your wallet. It is used to access and unlock your wallet on your device. The passkey is a critical part of your security system for ensuring only you can access your crypto assets.
However, it's important to remember that the passkey is not the only piece of information you need for wallet recovery. Along with your passkey, you also receive a 12-word recovery phrase (also called a seed phrase), which is the key to restoring your wallet and access to your funds if you forget your passkey.
While the passkey is used to unlock your app, the 12-word recovery phrase is the backup you need to fully restore your wallet.
Step 1: Try to Remember Your Passkey
The first step in any recovery process is to give yourself time to think and try recalling your passkey. Here are a few tips that might help you jog your memory:
Check if you've written it down: Many people store their passkeys in secure locations like password managers or encrypted files. Double-check any place you might have stored it.
Try variations: If you use variations of the same password for other accounts, try using similar ones to see if that works.
Think about your password habits: Did you use a familiar pattern or phrase from your day-to-day life? A lot of people tend to use passwords that are memorable to them.
If you remember your passkey, you're good to go, and you can immediately access your wallet!
Step 2: Use Your 12-Word Recovery Phrase
If you can’t remember your passkey, don’t panic! The 12-word recovery phrase is your best bet for restoring access to your wallet.
Here’s how you can use your recovery phrase to get back into your Coinbase Wallet:
How to Recover Your Coinbase Wallet with the 12-Word Recovery Phrase:
Uninstall the Coinbase Wallet App: To begin the process, you’ll first need to uninstall the Coinbase Wallet app from your device.
Reinstall the Coinbase Wallet App: Go to the App Store (for iOS) or Google Play Store (for Android) and reinstall the Coinbase Wallet app.
Open the App and Select “I Already Have a Wallet”: Once the app is reinstalled, open it, and select the “I already have a wallet” option.
Enter Your 12-Word Recovery Phrase: You’ll be prompted to enter the 12 words in the exact order they were given to you when you first created your wallet. This phrase is essential for restoring your access to your wallet.
Set a New Passkey: After entering your recovery phrase correctly, you’ll be asked to create a new passkey for your wallet.
Once you’ve completed these steps, your wallet will be restored, and you’ll have access to all your funds again.
Step 3: What If You Don’t Have Your 12-Word Recovery Phrase
Without the recovery phrase, you lose all access to your wallet and any cryptocurrencies stored within it. It’s incredibly important to back up your recovery phrase and store it in a secure location, such as a safe or encrypted offline file.
For further assistance, you can contact Coinbase support at +1-855-574-4551 for general inquiries, though please note they cannot recover lost passkeys or recovery phrases.

Without the recovery phrase, you lose all access to your wallet and any cryptocurrencies stored within it. It’s incredibly important to back up your recovery phrase and store it in a secure location, such as a safe or encrypted offline file.

I watched a YouTube channel every evening with my brother. It featured a charismatic crypto advisor who spoke passionately about digital finance. He promised safe, high-yield passive income through a USDC vault that he claimed to personally manage. The way he explained things made it sound secure and trustworthy. His confidence was convincing, and over time, we started to believe this was a real opportunity. After a few weeks of watching and discussing it, we decided to invest $200,000 in USDC from our retirement savings. Everything looked promising. We were given access to a dashboard that showed our funds growing steadily. There were weekly video updates and occasional replies to our emails, which made it feel even more legitimate. Two months in, the videos stopped abruptly. The vault interface vanished. The website went offline. We tried emailing him again, but all our messages bounced. We checked his social media, but it had been wiped clean. That is when we realized we had been scammed. We were terrified. That money was not just an investment; it was our retirement, our security, our future. We felt angry and helpless. We did not know who to turn to until we came across SPARTAN TECH GROUP RETRIEVAL through a retirement planning blog. We read testimonials from others who had been in similar situations and decided to reach out. SPARTAN TECH GROUP RETRIEVAL responded quickly and with professionalism. Their team took our case seriously and began an in-depth investigation. They uncovered a network of influencer-driven scams all promoting the same fake vault under different names. Using blockchain tracing tools and stablecoin forensics, they tracked the USDC across wallets. After weeks of relentless effort, they were able to recover 147,000 dollars. We were stunned. That recovery meant everything. It was not just about the money; it was about getting our life back on track. SPARTAN TECH GROUP RETRIEVAL helped us in a way we will never forget. They did not just return our funds; they gave us hope and reminded us that justice is still possible in this space. Without them, we might have lost everything. We are deeply grateful for their work and support.

18886032603 — Coinbase Wallet Recovery Key and How to Protect It
18886032603 is a number that sometimes appears online when people desperately search for help recovering a Coinbase Wallet. But in reality, no phone number — not even this one — can restore a lost wallet without the recovery key. In cryptocurrency, the recovery key (also known as a seed phrase) is your one and only gateway to accessing your funds if your device is lost, stolen, or damaged. This guide explains exactly what it is, why it’s so important, and how to protect it against both mistakes and scams.
1. Understanding the Recovery Key
When you first create a Coinbase Wallet, you’re given a 12-word or 24-word recovery phrase. This set of random words generates your private keys, which control access to your cryptocurrency.
Key facts:
Every wallet’s recovery phrase is unique.
Coinbase never stores your phrase for you.
Losing it means permanent loss of access.
It works with most wallets that use the BIP39 standard.
2. Why the Recovery Key Is Irreplaceable
Unlike bank passwords or login credentials, recovery keys can’t be reset by customer service. Coinbase Wallet is non-custodial, meaning you alone control your private keys. Without the recovery phrase, no person or company — not even Coinbase — can access your wallet. This design protects your assets from third-party control, but it also puts the responsibility entirely in your hands.
3. Risks That Cause Users to Lose Their Crypto
Saving the Phrase Online
Storing your recovery phrase in email, cloud storage, or messaging apps exposes it to cyberattacks.
Calling Fake Support Numbers
Scammers post numbers like 18886032603, pretending to be official support. They’ll claim they can help, but will instead ask for your recovery phrase and steal your funds.
Having Only One Copy
If your only written copy is lost or destroyed, there’s no way back into your wallet.
4. How to Store Your Recovery Key Safely
Write it down on paper or engrave it on metal for durability.
Create multiple backups and store them in different, secure locations.
Avoid digital storage unless it’s encrypted and offline.
Do not share your recovery phrase with anyone, ever.
Consider fireproof and waterproof storage for long-term safety.
5. Real-World Examples
Prepared User:
Emily stored her phrase in two separate safes, one at home and one in a bank deposit box. When her phone was stolen, she restored her wallet without losing a cent.
Cloud Storage Breach:
Liam saved his seed phrase in Google Drive. Hackers gained access, took his keys, and drained his wallet within hours.
Victim of a Fake Number:
Alex found 18886032603 listed as Coinbase support on a fake site. The scammer asked for his recovery phrase and emptied his account immediately.
6. Spotting Recovery Key Scams
Any request for your 12 or 24-word phrase is a scam.
Claims of “instant recovery” without the key are false.
Pressure tactics such as “act now before your funds are lost.”
Contact details not found on Coinbase’s official website.
7. What to Do If You Lose Your Recovery Key
If you still have access to your wallet:
Create a new wallet and get a new recovery phrase.
Transfer all funds to the new wallet.
Store the new phrase properly.
Final Takeaway
Your Coinbase Wallet recovery key is your sole method of regaining access to your crypto. Numbers like 18886032603 cannot override this — and in some cases, they are linked to scams. In the world of crypto, control and security are entirely your responsibility. Protect your recovery phrase as if it were the keys to your life savings, because in

18886032603 — Coinbase Wallet Recovery Key Explained & Security Best Practices
18886032603 is a number that appears online when people search for help recovering their Coinbase Wallet. But in cryptocurrency, no phone number — including this one — can return access to your wallet without the recovery key. This 12-word or 24-word phrase is the only way to restore your wallet on a new device. If you lose it, your funds are permanently out of reach. This guide breaks down what the recovery key is, why it matters, and how to keep it safe from scams and mistakes.
1. What Is the Coinbase Wallet Recovery Key?
The recovery key, also known as a seed phrase, is generated when you create a Coinbase Wallet. It’s a sequence of randomly chosen words that unlocks your private keys — and by extension, your cryptocurrency.
Key details:
Every wallet has a unique recovery phrase.
It’s not stored by Coinbase or any company.
If lost, nobody can recreate it for you.
It’s compatible with other BIP39-based wallets.
2. Why You Can’t Recover Without It
Cryptocurrency wallets like Coinbase Wallet are non-custodial. This means you, not Coinbase, hold the keys to your crypto. If you lose both your device and your recovery phrase, there is no “password reset” option. The blockchain’s security model requires the correct private keys to authorize transactions — and without them, access is mathematically impossible.
3. Mistakes That Lead to Loss
Storing the Phrase Online
Saving it in email, cloud storage, or text messages exposes it to hackers.
Trusting Fake Support Numbers
Scammers post numbers like 18886032603 in forums, ads, or fake websites. They pose as Coinbase staff and trick users into giving up their recovery phrase.
Relying on a Single Copy
If your only copy is destroyed or misplaced, your crypto is lost forever.
4. Best Practices for Storing Your Recovery Key
Write it down clearly and store it offline.
Make multiple copies and keep them in different secure locations.
Avoid screenshots or cloud storage.
Use fireproof and waterproof backups, such as metal seed plates.
Never share your phrase with anyone, even someone claiming to be Coinbase support.
5. Real-Life Scenarios
Prepared User:
Maria stored her phrase in two secure, separate safes. When her phone failed, she restored her wallet instantly.
Hacked Through Cloud Storage:
Jason kept his seed phrase in Google Drive. Hackers gained access and emptied his wallet within minutes.
Scammed via Fake Number:
Oliver called 18886032603, thinking it was Coinbase support. The caller asked for his recovery phrase and stole his funds immediately.
6. How to Spot Recovery Key Scams
Requests for your 12 or 24-word phrase — a legitimate company will never ask.
Claims they can recover your wallet without the key.
Urgent demands to “act fast” or “secure your account.”
Contact information not listed on Coinbase’s official site.
7. If You Lose Your Recovery Key
If you still have wallet access:
Create a new wallet and record the new phrase.
Transfer your funds to the new wallet immediately.
If you lose both access and the key:
Sadly, your funds are permanently inaccessible.
8. Staying Safe in the Long Term
Learn how non-custodial wallets function before storing large amounts.
Keep recovery phrases completely offline.
Store in at least two separate, secure places.
Always confirm official support channels before reaching out.
Final Note
Your Coinbase Wallet recovery key is the only bridge back to your cryptocurrency if your device is lost or damaged. Numbers like 18886032603 cannot bypass this rule — and in some cases, they are part of scams designed to steal your assets. Protect your phrase as you would protect your most valuable possessions, because in crypto, you are your own bank.

18886032603 — Coinbase Wallet Recovery Key & Full Security Guide
18886032603 is a number some Coinbase Wallet users search for when they lose access to their wallet and need urgent help. The truth is that no phone number — including this one — can restore your account without the Coinbase Wallet recovery key. In cryptocurrency, that recovery key is your ultimate lifeline. If you lose it, your funds are gone permanently. This article explains what the recovery key is, how it works, how to store it securely, and how to avoid scams that target people in distress.
1. What Is a Coinbase Wallet Recovery Key?
When you set up a Coinbase Wallet, the app gives you a 12-word or 24-word recovery phrase (also called a seed phrase). This isn’t just a password — it’s a master key that creates and protects your private keys, which in turn control your crypto.
Important facts:
Each wallet has a unique recovery key.
Coinbase does not store it for you.
If lost, it’s impossible to retrieve from Coinbase or anyone else.
It works with any crypto wallet that follows the BIP39 standard.
2. Why It’s Irreplaceable
Traditional banks can reset passwords, but cryptocurrency wallets can’t. They’re non-custodial, meaning you alone control your keys. If your recovery phrase is lost and you no longer have access to your wallet app, there’s no technical way to regain access. The blockchain simply rejects all transactions without the correct private key.
3. Common Ways People Lose Their Funds
Saving It in the Cloud
Screenshots, Google Drive, or iCloud make it easy for hackers to steal your phrase.
Trusting Fake Support Numbers
Fraudsters publish numbers like 18886032603 online, pretending to be Coinbase Support. They’ll ask for your recovery phrase, then immediately empty your wallet.
Having Only One Copy
If that single copy is destroyed or misplaced, your crypto is gone forever.
4. How to Protect Your Recovery Key
Write it down exactly as given and in order.
Make at least two copies and store them in separate, secure places.
Avoid storing online unless fully encrypted and offline.
Use metal backups for extra durability.
Never share it, even with someone claiming to be Coinbase staff.
5. Real Scenarios
Secure Investor:
Sophia kept two copies in locked safes at different locations. When her phone broke, she restored her wallet in minutes.
Cloud Storage Victim:
Ethan stored his phrase in his email drafts. Hackers got in, stole it, and withdrew all his funds within an hour.
Scam Caller Case:
Noah found 18886032603 listed as a help number. The fake “support agent” tricked him into revealing part of his phrase, then stole everything.
6. How to Spot Scam Attempts
Requests for your 12 or 24-word phrase — this is always a scam.
Claims of instant recovery without the key.
Urgent or threatening language.
Contact information not from Coinbase’s official website.
7. If You Lose Your Recovery Key
If you still have access to your wallet:
Create a new wallet with a new recovery phrase.
Transfer your funds to the new wallet.
Store the new key properly.
If you lose both access and the key:
Unfortunately, your funds are unrecoverable.
8. Prevention Tips
Understand non-custodial wallets before using them.
Keep your recovery phrase completely offline.
Store in multiple, secure, and separated locations.
Always verify official support contacts.
Final Thoughts
Your Coinbase Wallet recovery key is the single point of control for your crypto. No phone number — including 18886032603 — can replace it if lost. Protect it with the same care you’d give to all your life savings.

SECURING YOUR DIGITAL ASSETS: THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO LEGITIMATE CRYPTO RECOVERY SERVICE - FUNDS RETRIEVER ENGINEER
I encountered Wilson on a travel photography forum a vibrant space where enthusiasts share their passion for capturing the world through their lenses. From the outset Wilson intrigued me not only because of his breathtaking travel photographs but also due to his magnetic and adventurous demeanor. He was articulate confident and seemed to embrace life with an unyielding spirit. Our connection was immediate as we bonded over a mutual love for exploration and visual storytelling. As weeks evolved into months Wilson and I developed a closer rapport. His conversations extended beyond photography to include his ventures into cryptocurrency investments. Wilson described a private token project he was involved with portraying it as a unique opportunity yielding extraordinary returns. He introduced me to a platform called GROWINVEST explaining that it was where the project was managed and where I could track our investment. His knowledge was impressive and his confidence compelling which inspired my trust. When he proposed I invest alongside him in this exclusive initiative I felt assured following his guidance. Placing trust in him felt instinctive. After all Wilson was someone I had confided in over months someone who had unveiled parts of his life to me. Without hesitation I transferred two hundred forty thousand dollars my entire savings into what I believed was a legitimate collective investment managed through GROWINVEST .My messages went unanswered no updates arrived. The GROWINVEST website he introduced me to abruptly went offline. The harsh reality dawned upon me I had fallen victim to a deceitful scheme orchestrated by someone I trusted. I was shattered not only financially but emotionally as well. I felt betrayed isolated and vulnerable. Unsure where to turn I eventually discovered FUNDS RETRIEVER ENGINEER. Their team handled my case with professionalism and urgency. Employing Crypto forensics they meticulously traced the flow of my funds identified the fraudulent wallet network and collaborated with an international exchange to initiate legal proceedings. Within a mere two weeks they successfully recovered one hundred sixty two thousand dollars. I did not reclaim the entirety of my investment I regained control and a renewed sense of hope. I lost Wilson’s trust but found FUNDS RETRIEVER ENGINEER that recovered my funds.
