The first thing I would like to share with you here is that when you help people, you don’t wait around until they say thank you because you didn’t help them so you can hear appreciation.

When you pay attention to the Quran, you discover that it can only be from Allah. It becomes clearer and clearer to you that it cannot be from a human being. But many people don't perceive the Quran this way because Allah doesn't open its doors to people who do not pay attention.

How many people must there be, who are completely unknown in this world, but they are famous in the sky." There are people on this earth who may seem insignificant to you and me. But they are beloved to Allah and their name is constantly mentioned among the angels in the sky.

A time when morality will keep shifting, you need something that stands straight and can stay in place.

People run after respect in this world. We think respect will come from our money, car, the brand of our clothing, and the connections we have with powerful people. Dignity and respect will only come when we take Allah as our teacher.

I have some advice for the young generation who are wanting to become successful in life: become more grateful. Once you do that, Allah says, "If you are grateful, I will surely increase you (in everything)." If you're having a hard time in math, science, language and whatever else, become grateful to Allah and He will open doors for you. You'll even get better at basketball and become more athletic. I pray that Allah makes you grateful young people who are examples for others all over the world, ameen.

You can’t master the Quran, it masters you.

Why does Allah compare the Quran to water? Besides the fact that the Quran came down from the sky, it also brings dead hearts back to life, like water brings life to the dead earth. Similarly as to how water is completely pure, the Quran is pure and purifies everything else. We are completely incapable of creating water ourselves yet benefit from what it produces in the earth, the same way the Quran is not and cannot be the work of a human being but we can extract benefit from the guidance it offers.

What does it mean to sell the ayaat of Allah for a small price? It is to change the meaning of ayaat in order to please people. By telling people whatever they need to be told in order for them to stay pleased with you. That is called selling the ayaat of Allah for a small price.

When ignorance is passed down for a long time without giving it a second thought, it leads to evil because you are doing it without knowledge.

[The Quran is] a Revelation sent down by al-'Azeez, ar-Raheem." [Yaseen: 5] The Quran is 'azeez (authoritative) and it's from al-'Azeez. And the Prophet is the most merciful human to ever live and was sent as a mercy to mankind from ar-Raheem. It's the perfect message delivered on the tongue of a perfect Messenger (salAllahu alayhi wa sallam).

Allah says in Surah Ar-Rahman that every thing in the Heavens and the Earth begs Allah for its needs. The argument can be made that an atheist doesn't ask Allah for anything at all. The answer to that is simple: his throat begs to Allah when it is thirsty, his heart seeks permission from Allah before beating each and every single time, and every blood cell asks Allah's permission before traveling through his veins. There is only one small part of his heart, his free will, that is in disobedience to Allah. And even that part will beg to Allah on Judgment Day.

Warnings are of 3 kinds and stages in the Quran: 1) Destruction of a nation (i.e. Nation of Prophets Nuh & Lut) 2) Warning of Judgment Day 3) Warning of Hellfire All 3 kinds of warnings are related. Allah is telling us that if we are one of the nations that will be destroyed here, then we are really going to take a beating on Judgment Day, and that will feel like a vacation compared to Hellfire.

The thing we have to remember in making duʿā’ is: first of all, we’re not in a position to place orders. Secondly: whatever I’m asking for yā Allāh, if this is good for me, give me and if not, I trust your decision.

I want to make sure we understand in this reminder what duʿā’ is not? Duʿā’ is not placing an order at a restaurant. Duʿā’ is not placing an order for a product. When you place an order, you pay something and you get what you expected. You place an order for French fries; you’re not supposed to get a burger. You’re supposed to get French fries. When you place an order for a laptop, you’re not supposed to get a phone in the mail. You get what you ordered, and when you order something you obviously pay for it. You paid for it, so you’re expecting what you paid for. When you and I make duʿā’, we pay nothing. We pay nothing. When you pay nothing, then you have no expectations, you have no right to complain about what you get. You don’t get to say, ‘Hey! Wait, I asked for a hundred on my exam. I made duʿā’ last night. I still got a forty. What is this Allah? I placed the right order!’ You and I don’t get to do that. Allah is not here to serve you and me as customers. We’re used to customer service in this world. We are used to it so much that we think the way we are going to deal with Allah, is the same. Some of the young people today; unfortunately, their relationship with their parents has become like their parents are supposed to provide them customer service. ‘Mum, I asked you to buy me Grand Theft Auto! How come you didn’t get it yet?’, ‘I told you I’m going to do my homework!’ Like your homework is payment or something, right? Because we feel so entitled all the time, we bring this entitled attitude when we turn to Allah and we make duʿā’ to Him. ‘Yā Allāh, heal me.’ ‘Yā Allāh, get me a promotion.’ ‘Yā Allāh, do this for me or do that for me.’ And it doesn’t happen; and you’re like: ‘Forget this, I don’t need prayer. I even took the time out to pray and He didn’t give!

None of us gives up on the other one. None of us says about the other one

Sūrat al-ʿAṣr is not about attaining success. It’s not a surah that teaches Muslims how to become successful; it actually teaches Muslims how not to become failures.

In other words when I leave the matter to Allah, Allah is as worried about this, if not more, than I am. Allah is not some other that I am asking; Allah is sharing with me in this matter. Allah is actually a part of this situation. Whatever I am feeling, Allah knows better than even I know. If I care about something, I should know that I have made tafwīḍ of Allah, which means not only do I trust Allah with whatever He does, I know Allah cares about what I am asking Him. It’s not like He doesn’t care. Nobody gets to say Allah doesn’t care just because Allah doesn’t answer the way you and I expected.

I think I know what’s best, but Allah actually knows what’s best. I think that getting better is best. I think that getting that job is the best. I think that this difficulty if I can get out of it, it’s the best. But Allah knows, way better than I know. He knows way better than I know. I make duʿā’ based on what I think is best—that’s what I can do as a human being. I will only ask Allah based on the limited knowledge that I have, but thankfully Allah knows better than you and me and everybody else so He will answer based on perfect knowledge. And maybe the best thing for you is that He does not answer right away, that He does not give you what you are asking for right away.

When you don’t appreciate a daughter, it’s like you’re not appreciating your own mother, that’s where you came from.

Don’t just wear your faith on your sleeve. Don’t just call yourself a Muslim and not represent any of its teachings. You’re not going to get away with that. This faith of ours isn’t just a declaration, it has to be a lifestyle choice.

The believer recognizes that whatever Allah gives you, whatever food He put on the table, whatever job you found, whatever business your doing—not only is it good enough; you desperately needed it.

Rabbī innī limā anzalta ilayya min khayrin faqīr:
