We have been led to identify ourselves with our destructive side - and that which we have become identified, we overvalue and empower. This has been happening for many generations, reinforcing this harmful image of ourselves.

We can’t possibly see the whole picture as well as Spirit can. We might not realize that there is tremendous growth and learning in store for us if we actually take a course different from the comfortable one we would select from the level of serpent or jaguar. While we may long for material wealth and comfort, our soul was drawn to a family where we might have lacked these things. While we may have wanted loving and caring parents, we may have ended up with those who didn’t give affection easily. Yet the perception from the level of hummingbird is that everything is perfect as it is, that nothing needs to be changed. From the level of eagle, we know that “the Father and I are One.” There is no longer an “I,” there is only Spirit, and there is no will other than that of Spirit.

Even if we have never met, we belong to each other. And how do I know we belong to each other? Because I have been weaving you into my braids since the times before my time.

Many of us are awakening to the potency of the ways and wisdom of our ancestors. Many of us are awakening to the beauty of our cultural traditions. At the same time, we cannot make the mistake of romanticizing ancestral work; reconciliation with our roots can only happen because something got broken! This means that ancestral work can be painful— whether the people in our lineages were victims or perpetrators.

We may have a lot of romantic ideas about Nature, but it has both a heavy and light aspect. Nature, as our primal ancestor and source of life, has the power to devour, destroy, and even abort us. We must learn to discern when we are approaching Nature with arrogance or the need to dominate, even if these attitudes lie beneath the surface.

I wish for you, beloved friend, to practice moving through anger in ways that support all of us to create the world we want for our grandchildren.
