Al cui suflet n-a întinerit în fața unei picături de rouă, ce îndoaie, sub greutatea răcoroasă și scânteietoare, fruntea încărcată parcă de gânduri a unei flori? Cu măsura scurtă și neîndestulătoare a inimii sale, cine n-a căutat totuși să socotească nemărginitul adânc al patimii nevinovate, cu care o undă zglobie își lasă strălucitoarea-i goliciune în voia dezmierdărilor șăgalnice ale unei raze de lumină, spre a-și arunca în urmă, peste pudoarea-i parcă jignită, haina de umbră a pădurilor? De câte ori, în mijlocul arborilor muți si neclintiți, nu ne-am simțit ca în tovărășia unor vechi și buni prieteni guralivi! De câte ori nu le-am destăinuit lor durerile noastre și de câte ori, mai cu seamă, nu ne-au alinat ei aceste dureri! Din nenumăratele generațiuni de foi putrede și îngrămădite de vremuri unele peste altele, cine n-a văzut cum își ridică fruntea, rar și sfios, o floare albastră sau roșie, și cine, iarăși, n-a înțeles cum răsare viața din păturile eterne ale morții?... Și, în fața veșnicei nimiciri, cine nu s-a simțit el insuși lunecând pe rostul fatal al lucrurilor spre însăși neînlăturata și desăvârșita sa neființă?... Și cine n-a îndreptat atunci, din nestatornicia lumii acestea, o dureroasă amintire spre lumea de veșnică odihnă a celor ce nu mai sunt?... Și... al cui suflet n-a simțit răsărindu-i, fără de voie, o lacrimă caldă la capătul cugetărilor sale?...
