While the exact changes Muhammad made to this tradition are far too complex to discuss in detail here, it is sufficient to note that women in the Ummah were, for the first time, given the right both to inherit the property of their husbands and to keep their dowries as their own personal property throughout their marriage. Muhammad also forbade a husband to touch his wife’s dowry, forcing him instead to provide for his family from his own wealth. If the husband died, his wife would inherit a portion of his property; if he divorced her, the entire dowry was hers to take back to her family. As one would expect, Muhammad’s innovations did not sit well with the male members of his community. If women could no longer be considered property, men complained, not only would their wealth be drastically reduced, but their own meager inheritances would now have to be split with their sisters and daughters—members of the community who, they argued, did not share an equal burden with the men. Al-Tabari recounts how some of these men brought their grievances to Muhammad, asking, “How can one give the right of inheritance to women and children, who do not work and do not earn their living? Are they now going to inherit just like men who have worked to earn that money?” Muhammad’s response to these complaints was both unsympathetic and shockingly unyielding. “Those who disobey God and His Messenger, and who try to overstep the boundaries of this [inheritance] law will be thrown into Hell, where they will dwell forever, suffering the most shameful punishment” (4:14). If Muhammad’s male followers were disgruntled about the new inheritance laws, they must have been furious when, in a single revolutionary move, he both limited how many wives a man could marry and granted women the right to divorce their husbands.

At the present time, political power is everywhere constituted on insufficient foundations. On the one hand it emanates from the so-called divine right of kings, which is none other than military force; on the other from universal suffrage, which is merely the instinct of the masses, or mere average intelligence. Two main things are necessary nowadays for the continuation of the mighty work: on the one hand, the progressive unfolding of experimental science and intuitive philosophy to facts of psychic order, intellectual principles, and spiritual proofs; on the other, the expansion of Christian dogma in the direction of tradition and esoteric science, and subsequently a reorganization of the Church according to a graduated initiation; this by a free and irresistible movement of all Christian churches, which are also equally daughters of the Christ. Science must become religious and religion scientific. This double evolution, already in preparation, would finally and forcibly bring about a reconciliation of Science and Religion on esoteric grounds. The work will not progress without considerable difficulty at first, but the future of European Society depends on it. The transformation of Christianity, in its esoteric sense would bring with it that of Judaism and Islam, as well as a regeneration of Brahmanism and Buddhism in the same fashion, it would accordingly furnish a religious basis for the reconciliation of Asia and Europe.

The call for justice was a protest as fierce as those of the biblical prophets and of Jesus, and the similarity of the call was no coincidence. As with early Judaism and early Christianity, early Islam would be rooted in opposition to a corrupt status quo. Its protest of inequity would be an integral part of the demand for inclusiveness, for unity and equality under the umbrella of the one god regardless of lineage, wealth, age, or gender. This is what would make it so appealing to the disenfranchised, those who didn't matter in the grand Meccan scheme of things, like slaves and freedmen, widows and orphans, all those cut out of the elite by birth or circumstance. And it spoke equally to the young and idealistic, those who had not yet learned to knuckle under to the way things were and who responded to the deeply egalitarian strain of the verses. All were equal before God, the thirteen-year-old Ali as important as the most respected graybeard, the daughter as much as the son, the African slave as much as the highborn noble. It was a potent and potentially radical re-envisioning of society. This was a matter of politics as much as of faith. The scriptures of all three of the great monotheisms show that they began similarly as popular movements in protest against the privilege and arrogance of power, whether that of kings as in the Hebrew bible, or the Roman Empire as in the Gospels, or a tribal elite as in the Quran. All three, that is, were originally driven by ideals of justice and egalitarianism, rejecting the inequities of human power in favor of a higher and more just one. No matter how far they might have strayed from their origins as they became institutionalized over time, the historical record clearly indicates that what we now call the drive for social justice was the idealistic underpinning of monotheistic faith.

Nothing about him bears any resemblance to the people I admired growing up; His accent--clean, perfect, neutral--is foreign; his credentials are so impressive that they're frightening; he made his life in Chicago, a dense metropolis; and he conducts himself with a confidence that comes from knowing that the modern American meritocracy was built for him. Jeremiah has given us a major identity clue when he tells us that the Daughter of Babylon is a melting pot of “mingled” people. This clue wouldn’t apply to Ancient Babylon nor to a global Church denomination, even if it has members in many nations. The word Jeremiah used is translated as “mingled”, which doesn’t apply to scattered persons in many nations.

Jeremiah 51:13 provides another critical clue of the identity of the Daughter of Babylon: “You who live by many waters and are rich in treasures, your end has come, the time for you to be cut off.” Ancient Babylon, a quick review of a map will confirm, did not live by many waters, just the River Euphrates.

The Daughter of Babylon prophecies are all world events that will happen before the following prophetic events:            a.) the rise of the Antichrist and False Prophet;          b.) the second peace treaty with Israel;          c.) the Rapture of the Church;          d.) the seven year Tribulation period;          e.) the Second Coming of Christ.            The Daughter of Babylon will be removed from the world stage before the above listed prophetic events. In fact, it is the removal of this rich, powerful and influential end times nation that precipitates and leads to the rise of the Antichrist (see Chapter 12 for details). Until the rise of the Antichrist there won’t be a second peace treaty with Israel, nor the seven year Tribulation period which starts with the signing of the treaty. Thus, though escaping the destruction of America by way of a heavenly Rapture would be much preferable to living through it, scripture doesn’t support that option. God’s people, as throughout history, will live in perilous times, with accompanying persecution.

light of the fact that America is the home of the second largest number of descendants in the world of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, God’s warnings to Zion to flee the Daughter of Babylon, along with the other seven warnings for Christians to flee, certainly appear to be His compassionate call on his people to avoid coming destruction and death. No other nation has as many Jewish residents as America. Though there are Catholics of Jewish heritage, the warnings addressed to Jews to flee from the Daughter of Babylon can’t really be made to apply to a denomination. On their face they are warnings to flee a nation, not a Church.

The Daughter of Babylon verses prophesy a destroyed nation with an impotent military (Jeremiah 50:23; 30; 36; 51:3), unable to act after its massive national destruction.

in describing the “virgin Daughter of Babylon wrote: Keep on, then, with your magic spells and with your many sorceries, which you have labored at since childhood…Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you.” (Isaiah 47:12-13)

It’s not necessary to believe America is the Daughter of Babylon to believe that God will keep His word and demand America must make an accounting for the blood of fifty five million babies killed by abortion and that the accounting will be demanded from those who shed/allowed the shedding of the blood. God either means what He said, or He doesn’t.

previously noted, the nations of the European Union, after the fall of the worlds only superpower, could be re-named the European Muslim Union, or a similar name will be chosen conveying the new Muslim identity of the continent. Muslims have tried over the centuries, unsuccessfully, to conquer Europe. Therefore, moving to a European nation before the Daughter of Babylon falls could result in living in the “belly of the beast” and would be highly dangerous for a Christian or a Jewish immigrant. Recall that Daniel warned that the Antichrist will be “a king of fierce countenance” (Daniel 8:11) and “He will cause astounding devastation…He will destroy …the holy people” (Daniel 8:24).  The prophesied Antichrist will rule the conquered nations of the world with an iron fist. Fleeing to Europe would be an unwise move.

Therefore, arguing that a modern day Daughter of Babylon arising again in Iraq will be destroyed because ancient Babylon conquered Jerusalem over 2,600 years ago, ignores the fact that God tells us in His inspired Word that He has already punished ancient Babylon for what it did to Israel.

How does this tie into the Biblical prophecies concerning the Daughter of Babylon? First, the Daughter of Babylon, as is seen in scripture, will fall because of its treachery in failing to support Israel, leading to the shedding of blood of many Israelites. Jeremiah says about the Daughter of Babylon in 51:49: “Babylon must fall because of Israel’s slain, just as the slain in all the earth have fallen because of Babylon.” Is the second part of this verse a reference to America’s role in leading the world towards acceptable and legalized abortion practices?

This girl will not count as one of his four permanent wives and the man will not be eligible to marry the girl’s sister… It is better for a girl to marry at such a time when she would begin menstruation at her husband’s house, rather than her father’s home. Any father marrying his daughter so young will have a permanent place in heaven.

Therefore, moving to a nation that today has a resident Muslim population will most likely result in living in a fully Muslim nation, soon after the fall of the Daughter of Babylon, along with Jihadists who believe that Christians and Jews must “revert” to Islam, or be decapitated. Not a good choice.

Those whose First and Second Amendment rights are taken from them won’t like it and will most likely fight back, leading to the “violence in the land” that Jeremiah describes. These future events will lead, in part, to the government of the Daughter of Babylon’s persecution of God’s people. One significant result? Many under persecution will flee the nation.

America has been blessed materially beyond all other nations. God has called on our blessed nation for decades to come back to Him. Each year, each day, we have ignored His loving entreaties to repent and be healed. So, what should He do? Cancel His call to repentance? Overlook fifty five million slain innocent children? Ignore America’s betrayal of Israel, when it happens? He actually covered this question in two of the Daughter of Babylon prophetic verses in Jeremiah:             “Babylon will suddenly fall and be broken. Wail over   her! Get balm for her pain; perhaps she can be healed.               ‘We would have healed Babylon, but she cannot be           healed; let us leave her and each go to his own land,    for her judgment reaches to the skies, it rises as high as          the clouds.’ ” (Jeremiah 51:8-9)

Women are inherently crooked? Certainly some Muslim clerics think so—or at least, they do not believe in legal equality for women. Bangladeshi Islamic cleric Mufti Fazlul Haq Amini read the same Koran that Tony Blair found so progressive and yet complained about attempts in his native country to establish equal property rights for women. The problem? That would be “directly against Islam and the holy Koran.”7 And where do Muslims get such ideas? They stem from the overall inferior status of women promulgated in the Koran, which specifically refutes the notion that women have as much basic human dignity as men. To the contrary, Allah says men are superior. When giving regulations for divorce, Allah stipulates that women “have rights similar to those (of men) over them in kindness.” Similar, but not identical, for “men are a degree above them” (2:228). Far from mandating equality, the Koran portrays women as essentially possessions of men. The Koran likens a woman to a field (tilth), to be used by a man as he wills: “Your women are a tilth for you (to cultivate) so go to your tilth as ye will” (2:223). And in a tradition Muhammad details the qualities of a good wife, including that “she obeys when instructed” and “the husband is pleased to look at her.”8 The Koran decrees women’s subordination to men in numerous other verses:            •    It declares that a woman’s legal testimony is worth half that of a man: “Get two witnesses, out of your own men, and if there are not two men, then a man and two women, such as ye choose, for witnesses, so that if one of them errs, the other can remind her” (2:282).            •    It allows men to marry up to four wives, and also to have sex with slave girls: “If ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, marry women of your choice, two or three or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (a captive) that your right hands possess, that will be more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice” (4:3).            •    It rules that a son’s inheritance should be twice the size of that of a daughter: “Allah (thus) directs you as regards your children’s (inheritance): to the male, a portion equal to that of two females” (4:11).            •    It allows for marriage to pre-pubescent girls, stipulating that Islamic divorce procedures “shall apply to those who have not yet menstruated” (65:4).

How does this tie into the Biblical prophecies concerning the Daughter of Babylon? First, the Daughter of Babylon, as is seen in scripture, will fall because of its treachery in failing to support Israel, leading to the shedding of blood of many Israelites. Jeremiah says about the Daughter of Babylon in 51:49: “Babylon must fall because of Israel’s slain, just as the slain in all the earth have fallen because of Babylon.” Is the second part of this verse a reference to America’s role in leading the world towards acceptable and legalized abortion practices? Multiply over forty million abortions worldwide each year by the years since 1973. Over a billion babies in the world have died, in part, because of America’s ‘leadership’ in promoting abortion globally. What a gruesome legacy. Who else better deserves the title of ‘Mother of Abominations’?

It is not unreasonable to assume that the amount of blood shed will be tied to the numbers of the innocent unborn who were aborted in and allowed by the Daughter of Babylon.

Remember that God says in Numbers 35:33 that “atonement cannot be made for the land on which blood has been shed, except by the blood of the one who shed it.” When the accounting for the blood of the slain innocent fifty five million aborted Americans happens, the accounting will likely take at least fifty five million non-innocent Americans, who could have stopped the slaughter, but who decided instead to look the other way. Is God likely, as we have done, to look the other way, and not stop the attack on America? “‘When I called, they did not listen; so when they called, I would not listen’, says the Lord Almighty.” (Zechariah 7:13).          It’s not necessary to believe America is the Daughter of Babylon to believe that God will keep His word and demand America must make an accounting for the blood of fifty five million babies killed by abortion and that the accounting will be demanded from those who shed/allowed the shedding of the blood. God either means what He said, or He doesn’t.

The historic importance of the Khidr story is unfortunate, given another lesson that emerges from it in Islamic tradition: don’t kill children, unless you know they’re going to grow up to be unbelievers. One early Muslim, Najda, recalled, “The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) used not to kill the children, so thou shouldst not kill them unless you could know what Khadir had known about the child he killed, or you could distinguish between a child who would grow up to be a believer (and a child who would grow up to be a non-believer), so that you killed the (prospective) non-believer and left the (prospective) believer aside.”26 This interpretation may help to explain the persistent phenomenon of honor killing in Islamic countries and even among Muslims in the West, in which a Muslim kills a daughter or other relative who has “shamed” him by engaging in allegedly un-Islamic activity, such as dating a non-Muslim boy or adopting Western clothing. Muslims who take the Koran literally can find a justification in this passage for such acts by claiming his victim was turning into an unbeliever.

In August 2011, in distant Uganda, a Muslim father imprisoned and starved his fourteen-year-old daughter, Susan Ithungu, because she converted to Christianity.

As soon as Saladin was in control of Egypt, he set his sights on a larger goal. He organized his state according to Islamic law and began removing Shiite influence in Egypt. This boosted his reputation and influence in the Muslim world, especially when he declared that he was the protector of the Sunni Orthodoxy. Saladin decided that he wanted to form a Muslim coalition, which would prove to be an extremely difficult task. The Muslim world was made up of highly independent states with their own rulers. Some of those states were made up of Shia Muslims, which meant that Saladin had to overcome regional and religious differences. Sometime in 1174, he uncovered a plot to put the Fatimids back in power, and he dealt with the traitors in a swift and brutal manner. He also built several mosques and madrasahs in order to expand Sunni influence within Egypt. His popularity among the Sunni Muslims grew, and he appointed Sunni Muslims to positions within the government and courts. Saladin allowed Egyptians to hold power within his government, which gave him insight into the traditions of the Egyptian populace. He was famously tolerant of other religions and allowed Coptic Christians and Jews to continue practicing their beliefs. During Saladin’s reign, the Egyptian economy continued to flourish as it had during the Fatimid Caliphate. Muslim Coalition In 1174, Saladin managed to capture Damascus, which was an impressive feat. From there, he went on to conquer Aleppo, Mosul, and Yemen. He soon came to control the Red Sea region, which brought him one step closer to his ultimate goal. However, Saladin didn’t simply rely on military methods to gain new territories. He was an adept diplomat who fostered strong relationships with other leaders, which gave him many allies. In order to establish the legitimacy of his rule, he married Nur al-Din’s widow since she was the daughter of a previous ruler of Damascus. Saladin also won widespread respect in the Muslim world by taking the lead in the efforts to protect Islam against the invading Christians. While Saladin proclaimed to be a protector of Islam, he had no problem fighting Muslim enemies. The caliph of Baghdad recognized most of Saladin’s authority, but Aleppo remained beyond his reach. It was ruled by Nur al-Din’s

Jeremiah’s Chapters 50 and 51, which are devoted to the end times Daughter of Babylon, prophesy that the failure of the Daughter of Babylon to come to Israel’s defense when it is attacked, is the reason for God’s vengeance on the betraying nation:      “Since this is the vengeance of the LORD, take vengeance on her; do to her as she has done to others.” (Jeremiah 50:15) ‘The LORD has vindicated us; come, let us tell in Zion what the LORD our God has done.’ (Jeremiah 51:10) “Before your eyes I will repay Babylon and all who live in Babylonia for all the wrong they have done in Zion,” declares the LORD.”  (Jeremiah 51:24)

Two of the three events that must take place before the fall of the Daughter of Babylon, i.e.: 1.) the persecution of God’s people and 2.) the betrayal of Israel, may be linked. God may well expect that His American Believers will take Him at his Word, believe His Word, and conclude that His people have an obligation to: 1.) bless Israel (Genesis 12:3); 2.) pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6)  insure that their nation keep its sworn covenant treaty obligation to come to Israel’s defense if Israel is attacked (Romans 1:31). The failure of His people to do these things may be tied to their own persecution and martyrdom. What has His church in America, with very limited exceptions, done to help, defend, pray for, and bless Israel? God is a God of linkage.

neither verse says the prophecies in Chapters 50 and 51 are about ancient Babylon. On the contrary, a close study of the 99 verses confirms they are for the future end days. Jeremiah 50:40, for example, states that the Daughter of Babylon will be destroyed “as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.” That type of dramatic destruction never happened to ancient Babylon, but it will happen to the Daughter of Babylon.

We will use nuclear weapons whenever we feel it necessary to protect our vital interests.” United States Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara, September 25, 1961 Jeremiah 50:23 describes the nation in Chapter 50 and 51 that he labels the Daughter of Babylon as “the hammer of the whole earth

God also says the Daughter of Babylon is His “war club” with which nations and kingdoms are destroyed. (Jeremiah 51:20). To how many nations could the phrase “hammer of the whole earth” have ever applied? Well, certainly, the original Babylonian empire, the Medo-Persian empire, the Grecian empire, the Roman empire, the British empire, the Napoleonic empire, the Prussian empire, and others. At one point in time, each of these empires, and some other smaller empires, to varying extents, could have been described accurately as “the hammer” of at least a part of the earth.

this verse means, without any meaningful contrary interpretation, is that the Daughter of Babylon is not an ancient nation (nor the ‘least’ of the nations). That, alone, rules out interpreting Babylon, or Iraq, as the object of these prophecies. Also, weakest wouldn’t work for “the hammer of the whole earth.” Would it be the poorest? The Daughter of Babylon prophecies identify this nation as extremely wealthy: “The merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries” (Revelation 18:3(b) and “All your riches and splendor have vanished, never to be recovered” (Revelation 18:14(b)). So, ‘weakest’ or the ‘poorest’ can’t apply. This identity clue could hardly apply to the Catholic Church which has been in existence over 2,000 years.

IDENTITY CLUE 8: THE GREAT VOICE “Because the Lord hath spoiled Babylon, and destroyed out of her the great voice…” (Jeremiah 51:55) A distinguishing characteristic of the Daughter of Babylon, Jeremiah tells us, is that this end times nation has a “great voice,” albeit a great voice that the Lord will eventually allow to be silenced. The world, particularly since the successful conclusion of the Second World War in 1945, has listened, and listened carefully, to what America has to say.

IDENTITY CLUE 15: THE KINGS OF THE MEDES WON’T DESTROY THEMSELVES Jeremiah gives us a significant clue as to the source of the devastating disaster that will come upon the Daughter of Babylon: “The LORD has stirred up the kings of the Medes, because his purpose is to destroy Babylon.” (Jeremiah 51:11b). The Bible includes references to the Medes and the Persians (Daniel 5:28 and Esther 1:19).

IDENTITY CLUE 16: A LAND OF ENTERTAINMENT John tells us in Revelation 18:22 that when the Daughter of Babylon falls: “The music of harpists and musicians, flute players and trumpeters, will never be heard in you again. No workman of any trade will ever be found in you again.” He then writes that “By your magic spell all the nations were led astray” (Revelation 18:23d).

The Two Babylons,  written by Rev. Alexander Hislop, published in 1858. Hislop claimed the Roman Catholic Church was a Babylonian mystery cult, basing the foundation of his argument almost solely on Revelation’s reference to seven mountains which he connected with the fact that Rome was called the ‘City of Seven Hills’. For decades since, under Hislop’s influence, the Bible’s Daughter of Babylon/Babylon the Great prophetic verses have generally been interpreted to apply to the Catholic Church.

detail what the Daughter of Babylon does, and does not do, when Israel is invaded. If a nation didn’t have a military defense agreement with Israel, i.e., all of the nations of the world except for America, then not coming to Israel’s aid wouldn’t be an issue. Only America, of the nations of the world, matches this identity clue. To read what America has promised Israel, in writing, it will do, read the U. S. – Israel Defense Agreement in Attachment B.

If one were to opine that the Daughter of Babylon is, in reality, in our times, a reference to a restored city on the site of ancient Babylon, concluding then that those restored mud and brick buildings are really what Jeremiah meant when he described the “hammer of the whole earth”, that would not be a currently defensible position. Neither the Vatican nor any other Christian denomination has a military budget. No Church or Christian denomination could conceivably be described today as “the hammer of the whole earth”.

From a timing viewpoint, this means that waiting for the Antichrist to become known before fleeing the Daughter of Babylon would be foolish, and would not be a correct analysis of the timing of prophecy. What is most striking about these prophecies is not that in the end there will be a nation seen by the world as “the hammer of the whole earth.” What grabs one’s attention is that God tells us this world superpower with military authority over the earth will, at some point, be instantly destroyed.

IDENTITY CLUE 4: A NATION OF WEALTH AND LUXURY Besides the foregoing prophecies which reveal the Daughter of Babylon will be a nation of great wealth, these verses further address the issue of great national wealth: “…because ye are grown fat as the heifer at grass…” (Jeremiah 50:12(b)). “…a sword is upon her treasures…” (Jeremiah 50:37(b))  “You who…are rich in treasures…” (Jeremiah 51:13(a)).

IDENTITY CLUE 5: A MULTI-ETHNIC “MELTING POT” OF A NATION Jeremiah writes about the Daughter of Babylon: “A sword is upon… the mingled people that are in the midst of her” (Jeremiah 50:37). What nation’s people could accurately be described as “mingled,” or a population with a mixture of various kinds of people? Many nations have more than one national stock of residents within its borders, but how many have the extraordinary mixture of many nations, many races and many peoples?

the nine separate calls given by God, through three different writers, both in the Old and New Testaments, to His people, to flee from the Daughter of Babylon before its destruction. Seven of God’s warnings to flee the Daughter of Babylon are addressed simply to His people. One such warning is in Revelation 18:4, and is linked to the Old Testament’s almost identical warnings, thus clearly referring to believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. Two other warnings to flee the Daughter of Babylon, however, stand apart, as specifically addressed to His Jewish people: “Come, O Zion! Escape, you who live in the Daughter of Babylon!’ (Zechariah 2:7).

The warning to flee the Daughter of Babylon couldn’t be any plainer than Zechariah’s words. God, likewise, in Isaiah 48:20, warns the Jewish residents of the Daughter of Babylon to flee: “Leave Babylon, flee from the Babylonians! Announce this with shouts of joy and proclaim it. Send it out to the ends of the earth; say, ‘The LORD has redeemed his servant Jacob’.

In the 6th century B.C., the Median kingdom included what is now Iran, Turkey, Iraq and surrounding areas. The Medo-Persian empire, a powerful dual empire, lasted until its conquest by Alexander the Great in 330 B.C. The area, for centuries, has been populated by Muslims. When God removes His protection from the Daughter of Babylon, He will stir up the kings of the Medes to destroy the Daughter of Babylon. Those persons would be from the area that today includes Iran and Iraq.

all of the several identity clues, this may be the saddest. Jeremiah makes a statement about the Daughter of Babylon that at first reads like a compliment: “Babylon has been a golden cup in the hand of the LORD.” (Jeremiah 51:7a). The most important aspect of this verse is that it applies, in all translations, to a future end times nation in the past tense. This nation has been a golden cup in the hand of the Lord.

The Betrayal of Israel in the Russian-Muslim Invasion of Israel “May the violence done to our flesh be upon Babylon,” say the inhabitants of Zion. “May our blood be on those who live in Babylonia,” says Jerusalem. (Jeremiah 51:35) Unlike the other five prophets who gave us verses detailing a future Daughter of Babylon, the Lord did not use the prophet Ezekiel to give us any direct references to a future nation known as the “Daughter of Babylon.

referring to the end times nation that is rich and powerful, and that will fall in a moment as “The Daughter of Babylon,” the Bible also refers to this end times nation as: BABYLON THE GREAT. Those capital letters are as the words are set forth in Revelation 17:5. John refers to Babylon the Great as “a mystery.” In Revelation 14:8 we read: A second angel followed and said, “Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great, which made all the nations drink the maddening wine of her adulteries.”  Then in Revelation 17:1-2: “One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, ‘Come, I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute, who sits on many waters. With her the kings of the earth committed adultery and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries’ (referring three verses later to “a mystery, BABYLON THE GREAT” [capitalization in original]).

In light of the fact that America is the home of the second largest number of descendants in the world of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, God’s warnings to Zion to flee the Daughter of Babylon, along with the other seven warnings for Christians to flee, certainly appear to be His compassionate call on his people to avoid coming destruction and death. No other nation has as many Jewish  residents as America. Though there are Catholics of Jewish heritage, the warnings addressed to Jews to flee from the Daughter of Babylon can’t really be made to apply to a denomination. On their face they are warnings to flee a nation, not a Church.

IDENTITY CLUE 14: DEEP WATER PORT NATION Revelation 18:17-19 gives us a dramatic picture of how the crews of the ships off the coast of the Daughter of Babylon will react when it’s destroyed: “Every sea captain, and all who travel by ship, the sailors, and all who earn their living from the sea, will stand far off. When they see the smoke of her burning, they will exclaim, ‘Was there ever a city like this great city?’ They will throw dust on their heads, and with weeping and mourning cry out:  ‘Woe! Woe, O great city, where all who had ships on the sea became rich through her wealth! In one hour she has been brought to ruin!

John, in Revelation 18:9 prophecies that when Babylon falls, “the kings of the earth…shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,” and in 18:11, “the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise anymore.” Obviously, if the entire nation of Iraq, let alone Babylon (whether with a Holiday Inn or even a full theme park), were to fall today, the kings and the merchants of the world would not be shedding tears and mourning over the loss. Even if Iraq stabilized, it would have a long way to go. Ancient Babylon is not the Daughter of Babylon

Therefore, arguing that a modern day Daughter of Babylon arising again in Iraq will be destroyed because ancient Babylon conquered Jerusalem over 2,600 years ago, ignores the fact that God tells us in His inspired Word that He has already punished ancient Babylon for what it did to Israel. Thus, the argument that the Daughter of Babylon will fall because of what ancient Babylon did to Judah won’t wash. The Daughter of Babylon will fall because of what the Daughter of Babylon does.

Thus, John presents a time line of the end times, in chronological order: a.) God proclaims that judgment time has arrived (not the final Great White Throne Judgment in heaven, but judgment on the earth of earth’s inhabitants); b.) Babylon, as a part of that judgment, is destroyed; c.) the Antichrist follows the fall of Babylon, as his allied forces take over Europe (Revived Roman Empire nations) under the threat of doing to them what was done to Babylon if they don’t agree to his leadership over their nations; d.) the final battle of Armageddon commences; and e.) Jesus returns to earth, to reign. Therefore, even though John was given the Book of the Revelation to write in a manner that was not chronological from chapter 1 through 22, the above section of prophecy contained within chapter 14 is helpful in unlocking the clues and solving the mystery of the identity of the Daughter of Babylon/Babylon the Great. (See Attachment C for a listing of end times events.)

in many ways Ezekiel’s prophecies are just as important as Ezekiel gives us critical information as to why the Daughter of Babylon will ultimately be destroyed. His prophecies tie directly into the prophecies of Jeremiah and John, both of whom tell us specifically, the reason for the fall of the Daughter of Babylon. Ezekiel writes that God “scattered (Israel) among the nations” (Ezekiel 36:19), that they “were soon to come home” (Ezekiel 36:8), and that God would “multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, even all of it, and the cities shall be inhabited and the wastes shall be built...and I will settle you according to your old estates, and will do better unto you than at your beginnings” (Ezekiel 36: 10-11). Not

Isaiah and the writer of Psalm 137 also state how God will view the betrayal of Israel: “O Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us” (Psalm 137:8) “A dire vision has been shown to me: The traitor betrays, the looter takes loot. Elam, attack! Media, lay siege! I will bring to an end all the groaning she caused.”        (Isaiah 21:2) “I will take vengeance; I will spare no one.” (Isaiah 47:3)

IDENTITY CLUE 6: YOU WHO LIVE ON MANY WATERS Jeremiah 51:13 provides another critical clue of the identity of the Daughter of Babylon: “You who live by many waters and are rich in treasures, your end has come, the time for you to be cut off.” Ancient Babylon, a quick review of a map will confirm, did not live by many waters, just the River Euphrates.

In the balance of verse 51:7, though, Jeremiah gives us a further insight into the influence of the Daughter of Babylon on the people of the world: “Intoxicating all the earth, the nations have drunk of her wine; therefore the nations are going mad.” If America has gone “mad upon her idols” (Jeremiah 50:38c), why would anyone be surprised that the citizens of the world, besotted with the same tainted and corrupt American ‘entertainment,’ would also be “going mad”? (Jeremiah 51:7d) Why would we be surprised that the people of the world, viewing how we portray ourselves in the entertainment media, hold America in such low esteem?

If the forgoing identity clues are not convincing that America is the future, prophesied Daughter of Babylon, consider a thought Paul gave us in Philippians 3:15b: “And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.” Prayerfully ask Him to reveal his meaning in these verses, for, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him”. (James 1:5)

The three future occurrences that scripture tells us we should be expecting and watching for are: 1.) Israel will truly be “at peace” for the first time since its founding in 1948; 2.) The Daughter of Babylon will severely persecute many of God’s people; 3.) The Daughter of Babylon will betray Israel, by not coming to its defense when a Russian-Muslim coalition invasion of Israel occurs, causing many in Israel to die.

Though all three are prophesied to occur, of these three, only one is stated in scripture as the reason for the destruction of the Daughter of Babylon.  The common link between the second and third listed future occurrences, is a precious liquid, i.e., human blood, the shedding of innocent human blood.

Not a very tough question, right? This nation’s Revolutionary War was not fought against any other nation except America’s “mother,” the nation of Great Britain. When history is reviewed, only a handful of nations can be said to have a “mother.” The United States is obviously one of those nations.

Therefore, it may be legitimately assumed that the Daughter of Babylon prophecies are for our times, the times of a re-born State of Israel. Apart from America, is there any other nation, any other nation on the entire planet, which you could label as “the hammer of the whole earth,” without causing people to snicker? France can’t control its own streets. The Soviet Empire is no longer.

all scripture must be considered together, as no verse is of ‘private interpretation.’ An examination of the several Daughter of Babylon verses shows that the verses describe a nation, with numerous cities. Isaiah warns the Daughter of Babylon that she will no longer be called the “queen of kingdoms” (Isaiah 47:5), indicating that she is more than a single community. Jeremiah warns that “the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “I will punish the King of Babylon and his land…” (Jeremiah 50:18), implying that more than a city will fall. Four verses later in 50:23 he notes “How desolate is Babylon among the nations!” He then settles the issue by recording God’s words to the Daughter of Babylon: “ I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all ‘round about him ,”(Jeremiah 50:32b). Later in 51:43 he writes: “Her cities are a desolation, a dry land, and a wilderness.” That’s “cities,” plural. Needless to say, a city may have suburbs, but only nations have “cities.

Errant Israelites actually called on their idols to do what only God can do. How do the Daughter of Babylon’s idols, and her idol worshippers, end up? “Therefore behold, days are coming when I will punish the idols of Babylon; and her whole land will be put to shame, and all her slain will fall in her midst.” (Jeremiah 51:47)

IDENTITY CLUE 10: THE DAUGHTER OF BABYLON MOUNTS UP TO HEAVENS “Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me spoilers come unto her, saith the LORD.” (Jeremiah 51:53) This is a fascinating verse, in that it was written over 2,600 years before man perfected flight and could rise up to the heavens.

Here then is a critical connection between an Old Testament prophet and the Prophet John in the New Testament. Both described the Daughter of Babylon with the same noun – ‘a queen’.’ This is relevant because historical Babylon had long faded into history by the time John wrote his words under the power of the Holy Spirit. The prophecies concerning the coming Daughter of Babylon were exactly that–prophecies about a future nation, not a nation that no longer existed. These verses tie together the several verses in Isaiah, Jeremiah, Joel, and Zechariah with the prophecies of John, seven centuries later, and all of them about a future nation called the “queen of kingdoms.” Is there any nation in our world, in our time, that this title fits more

What the reference to Babylon the Great, riding on a beast with seven mountains, could refer to instead, however, is the fact that the earth has seven major land masses, or continents, containing various heights of mountains: Europe, Africa, Asia, North America, South America, Australia and Antarctica, each rising up out of the depths of the seas. Since the Daughter of Babylon/Babylon the Great is described as the end times ‘hammer of the whole earth,’ its depiction as riding on, or having power or authority over, the seven continents of the earth makes sense. No prior world empire could make this claim.

IDENTITY CLUE 19:     ANCIENT BABYLON HAS ALREADY BEEN PUNISHED FOR CONQUERING JERUSALEM Those who argue for the interpretation of the identity of the Daughter of Babylon as being revived Babylon in the same location, in Iraq, must also argue that a modern re-built Babylon will pay for the sins of ancient Babylon for invading and conquering ancient Jerusalem. There is, however, a scriptural problem with the argument. In Jeremiah 21, Judah’s King Zedekiah asked Jeremiah what would happen, as Babylon’s King Nebuchadnezzar was making war against them. The

The Daughter of Babylon’s future treachery against Israel is shown dramatically in these verses: “O Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us.” (Psalm 137:8) “A dire vision has been shown to me: The traitor betrays, the looter takes loot. Elam, attack! Media, lay siege! I will bring to an end all the groaning she caused.” (Isaiah 21:12) “Before your eyes I will repay Babylon and all who live in Babylonia for all the wrong they have done in Zion, declares the LORD.” (Jeremiah 51:24) “May the violence done to our flesh be upon Babylon, say the inhabitants of Zion. “May our blood be on those who live in Babylonia,” says Jerusalem. Therefore, this is what the LORD says: “See, I will defend your cause and avenge you;” (Jeremiah 51:35-36)

The “hammer of the whole earth” will not be around to assert its powerful title and position; otherwise, how could the two legs of Daniel’s statute lay claim to being a world empire in the end times if it existed along with a competing “hammer of the whole earth”? We can legitimately conclude that the Daughter of Babylon, an end times world superpower, according to the Word of God, will be gone from the world stage before the fourth world empire based in Europe arises, and from which comes its leader, the Antichrist.

Since the total amount of imported goods flowing onto our shores is over a Trillion dollars, we can understand why the world will be shaken to its core when the world’s largest buyer of its goods is no longer buying. Tens of millions of laborers across the world will be quickly thrown out of work, with all that will entail for their national economies. The world’s financial superpower, which made the merchants of the world “rich through her wealth” (Revelation 18:19), will one day, in a day, no longer be buying their goods. Chapter 10 examines the impact of the fall of the Daughter of Babylon on the world’s remaining nations, politically and financially.

IDENTITY CLUE 1: IS THE DAUGHTER THE SAME AS THE MOTHER? It may seem obvious, but no, the daughter is not the same as the mother. If the Lord intended these ‘Daughter of Babylon’ verses to be understood as synonymous with Babylon, he could have easily omitted the modifying phrase “Daughter of” and just given us ‘Babylon’, instead. Clearly, we are meant to understand that the Daughter of Babylon has many characteristics of ancient Babylon, but is not, in fact, the same as historical Babylon, nor, for that matter, modern day Iraq, which contains the rubble of ancient Babylon, as we shall see in some detail as we look at the detailed descriptions of this end times prophesied nation.

When the Lord gave to Jeremiah the revelation that he recorded, and we read, in the Book of Jeremiah, He only caused Jeremiah to use the phrase “Daughter of Babylon” twice, once in Jeremiah 50:42, and the second time in Jeremiah 51:33. This is not a casual or accidental use of the name. A close study of Chapters 50 and 51 reveals 99 verses, almost all of which could not apply to ancient Babylon, but do apply to the nation Jeremiah refers to as the Daughter of Babylon.
