For Jenn At 12 years old I started bleeding with the moon and beating up boys who dreamed of becoming astronauts. I fought with my knuckles white as stars, and left bruises the shape of Salem. There are things we know by heart, and things we don't. At 13 my friend Jen tried to teach me how to blow rings of smoke. I'd watch the nicotine rising from her lips like halos, but I could never make dying beautiful. The sky didn't fill with colors the night I convinced myself veins are kite strings you can only cut free. I suppose I love this life, in spite of my clenched fist. I open my palm and my lifelines look like branches from an Aspen tree, and there are songbirds perched on the tips of my fingers, and I wonder if Beethoven held his breath the first time his fingers touched the keys the same way a soldier holds his breath the first time his finger clicks the trigger. We all have different reasons for forgetting to breathe. But my lungs remember the day my mother took my hand and placed it on her belly and told me the symphony beneath was my baby sister's heartbeat. And I knew life would tremble like the first tear on a prison guard's hardened cheek, like a prayer on a dying man's lips, like a vet holding a full bottle of whisky like an empty gun in a war zone… just take me just take me Sometimes the scales themselves weigh far too much, the heaviness of forever balancing blue sky with red blood. We were all born on days when too many people died in terrible ways, but you still have to call it a birthday. You still have to fall for the prettiest girl on the playground at recess and hope she knows you can hit a baseball further than any boy in the whole third grade and I've been running for home through the windpipe of a man who sings while his hands playing washboard with a spoon on a street corner in New Orleans where every boarded up window is still painted with the words We're Coming Back like a promise to the ocean that we will always keep moving towards the music, the way Basquait slept in a cardboard box to be closer to the rain. Beauty, catch me on your tongue. Thunder, clap us open. The pupils in our eyes were not born to hide beneath their desks. Tonight lay us down to rest in the Arizona desert, then wake us washing the feet of pregnant women who climbed across the border with their bellies aimed towards the sun. I know a thousand things louder than a soldier's gun. I know the heartbeat of his mother. Don't cover your ears, Love. Don't cover your ears, Life. There is a boy writing poems in Central Park and as he writes he moves and his bones become the bars of Mandela's jail cell stretching apart, and there are men playing chess in the December cold who can't tell if the breath rising from the board is their opponents or their own, and there's a woman on the stairwell of the subway swearing she can hear Niagara Falls from her rooftop in Brooklyn, and I'm remembering how Niagara Falls is a city overrun with strip malls and traffic and vendors and one incredibly brave river that makes it all worth it. Ya'll, I know this world is far from perfect. I am not the type to mistake a streetlight for the moon. I know our wounds are deep as the Atlantic. But every ocean has a shoreline and every shoreline has a tide that is constantly returning to wake the songbirds in our hands, to wake the music in our bones, to place one fearless kiss on the mouth of that brave river that has to run through the center of our hearts to find its way home.

I think we should kill her…What? She’s ruined my entire day. Made me fight with my wife and now you tell me she’s a spy sent to put us all under the jail. What part of ‘kill your enemies before they kill you’ did you sleep through? Your dad was an assassin, same as my mom. Don’t puss on me now, boy. You know what they’d do if they were here. Hell, your own mother would tear her up, spit her out in pieces, and not blink. (Sway) He’s right. None of you have any reason to help me. Why should you care? (She clicked the vid wall and a picture of a teenage girl was there.) That’s my baby sister, Tempest Elanari Gerran. Her birthday was day before yesterday. She turned sixteen in jail with my mother. I may be out of line, but I’ll bet when you guys turned sixteen, you had a celebration for it with presents and friends wishing you well. You won’t just be killing me. You’ll be killing them, too. Tempest is a prime sexual age and a virgin. Any idea what’s the first thing her new owner will do to her when she’s sold? I don’t want her to ever know the horror that was my sixteenth birthday. Mom?” Then again, louder. “Mom?” She turned around so quickly, she knocked the pan off the stove and nearly dropped the gray paper into the open flame there. I saw her reach back and slap her hand against the knobs, twisting a dial until the smell of gas disappeared. “I don’t feel good. Can I stay home today?” No response, not even a blink. Her jaw was working, grinding, but it took me walking over to the table and sitting down for her to find her voice. “How—how did you get in here?” “I have a bad headache and my stomach hurts,” I told her, putting my elbows up on the table. I knew she hated when I whined, but I didn’t think she hated it enough to come over and grab me by the arm again. “I asked you how you got in here, young lady. What’s your name?” Her voice sounded strange. “Where do you live?” Her grip on my skin only tightened the longer I waited to answer. It had to have been a joke, right? Was she sick, too? Sometimes cold medicine did funny things to her. Funny things, though. Not scary things. “Can you tell me your name?” she repeated. “Ouch!” I yelped, trying to pull my arm away. “Mom, what’s wrong?” She yanked me up from the table, forcing me onto my feet. “Where are your parents? How did you get in this house?” Something tightened in my chest to the point of snapping. “Mom, Mommy, why—” “Stop it,” she hissed, “stop calling me that!” “What are you—?” I think I must have tried to say something else, but she dragged me over to the door that led out into the garage. My feet slid against the wood, skin burning. “Wh-what’s wrong with you?” I cried. I tried twisting out of her grasp, but she wouldn’t even look at me. Not until we were at the door to the garage and she pushed my back up against it. “We can do this the easy way or the hard way. I know you’re confused, but I promise that I’m not your mother. I don’t know how you got into this house, and, frankly, I’m not sure I want to know—” “I live here!” I told her. “I live here! I’m Ruby!” When she looked at me again, I saw none of the things that made Mom my mother. The lines that formed around her eyes when she smiled were smoothed out, and her jaw was clenched around whatever she wanted to say next. When she looked at me, she didn’t see me. I wasn’t invisible, but I wasn’t Ruby. “Mom.” I started to cry. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be bad. I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry! Please, I promise I’ll be good—I’ll go to school today and won’t be sick, and I’ll pick up my room. I’m sorry. Please remember. Please!” She put one hand on my shoulder and the other on the door handle. “My husband is a police officer. He’ll be able to help you get home. Wait in here—and don’t touch anything.” The door opened and I was pushed into a wall of freezing January air. I stumbled down onto the dirty, oil-stained concrete, just managing to catch myself before I slammed into the side of her car. I heard the door shut behind me, and the lock click into place; heard her call Dad’s name as clearly as I heard the birds in the bushes outside the dark garage. She hadn’t even turned on the light for me. I pushed myself up onto my hands and knees, ignoring the bite of the frosty air on my bare skin. I launched myself in the direction of the door, fumbling around until I found it. I tried shaking the handle, jiggling it, still thinking, hoping, praying that this was some big birthday surprise, and that by the time I got back inside, there would be a plate of pancakes at the table and Dad would bring in the presents, and we could—we could—we could pretend like the night before had never happened, even with the evidence in the next room over. The door was locked. “I’m sorry!” I was screaming. Pounding my fists against it. “Mommy, I’m sorry! Please!” Dad appeared a moment later, his stocky shape outlined by the light from inside of the house. I saw Mom’s bright-red face over his shoulder; he turned to wave her off and then reached over to flip on the overhead lights.

Click. Everyone briefly gathered and posed and smiling at their future selves. Beaches and cathedrals, bumper cars and birthday parties, glasses raised around a dining table. Each picture a little pause between events. No tantrums, no illness, no bad news, all the big stuff happening before and after and in between. The true magic happening only when the lesser magic fails, the ghost daughter who moved during the exposure, her face unreadable but more alive than all her frozen family. Double exposures, as if a little strip of time had been folded back on itself. Scratches and sun flares. Photos torn postdivorce, faces scratched out or Biroed over. The camera telling the truth only when something slips through its silver fingers.

In a few words, since by nature and professional training he was more inclined to listen attentively than to talk, he told her that for some time he had not found employment as a psychologist and was looking for any respectable job. Photography had seemed a good possibility, but since he had not wanted to be like those amateurs who end up begging to photograph weddings, baptisms, and birthdays, he had come to the magazine. “Tomorrow I’m going to interview some prostitutes. Do you want to come along and give it a try?” Irene asked. Francisco accepted on the spot, brushing aside a shadow of sadness, thinking how much easier it was to earn a living by clicking a shutter than it was by placing his experience and hard-won knowledge at the service of his fellow man. Are you ready, children?” Father Mikhail walked through the church. “Did I keep you waiting?” He took his place in front of them at the altar. The jeweler and Sofia stood nearby. Tatiana thought they might have already finished that bottle of vodka. Father Mikhail smiled. “Your birthday today,” he said to Tatiana. “Nice birthday present for you, no?” She pressed into Alexander. “Sometimes I feel that my powers are limited by the absence of God in the lives of men during these trying times,” Father Mikhail began. “But God is still present in my church, and I can see He is present in you. I am very glad you came to me, children. Your union is meant by God for your mutual joy, for the help and comfort you give one another in prosperity and adversity and, when it is God’s will, for the procreation of children. I want to send you righteously on your way through life. Are you ready to commit yourselves to each other?” “We are,” they said. “The bond and the covenant of marriage was established by God in creation. Christ himself adorned this manner of life by his first miracle at a wedding in Cana of Galilee. A marriage is a symbol of the mystery of the union between Christ and His Church. Do you understand that those whom God has joined together, no man can put asunder?” “We do,” they said. “Do you have the rings?” “We do.” Father Mikhail continued. “Most gracious God,” he said, holding the cross above their heads, “look with favor upon this man and this woman living in a world for which Your Son gave His life. Make their life together a sign of Christ’s love to this sinful and broken world. Defend this man and this woman from every enemy. Lead them into peace. Let their love for each other be a seal upon their hearts, a mantle upon their shoulders, and a crown upon their foreheads. Bless them in their work and in their friendship, in their sleeping and in their waking, in their joys and their sorrows, in their life and in their death.” Tears trickled down Tatiana’s face. She hoped Alexander wouldn’t notice. Father Mikhail certainly had. Turning to Tatiana and taking her hands, Alexander smiled, beaming at her unrestrained happiness. Outside, on the steps of the church, he lifted her off the ground and swung her around as they kissed ecstatically. The jeweler and Sofia clapped apathetically, already down the steps and on the street. “Don’t hug her so tight. You’ll squeeze that child right out of her,” said Sofia to Alexander as she turned around and lifted her clunky camera. “Oh, wait. Hold on. Let me take a picture of the newlyweds.” She clicked once. Twice. “Come to me next week. Maybe I’ll have some paper by then to develop them.” She waved. “So you still think the registry office judge should have married us?” Alexander grinned. “He with his ‘of sound mind’ philosophy on marriage?” Tatiana shook her head. “You were so right. This was perfect. How did you know this all along?” “Because you and I were brought together by God,” Alexander replied. “This was our way of thanking Him.” Tatiana chuckled. “Do you know it took us less time to get married than to make love the first time?” “Much less,” Alexander said, swinging her around in the air. “Besides, getting married is the easy part. Just like making love. It was the getting you to make love to me that was hard. It was the getting you to marry me…” “I’m sorry. I was so nervous.” “I know,” he said. He still hadn’t put her down. “I thought the chances were twenty-eighty you were actually going to go through with it.” “Twenty against?” “Twenty for.” “Got to have a little more faith, my husband,” said Tatiana, kissing his lips.

in his car and drove off. “Hey,” Eric said and pointed to a cab at the end of the line. It had a large dent in its hood. “The thief may be in one of the other smashed cars.” Cam looked at the cab with the dented hood. Then she saw another cab stop. A man got out. He was carrying a small suitcase. Cam looked at the front of the line. A woman and a small child got into a cab while the driver loaded two large suitcases into the trunk. Cam’s grandparents and the two police officers returned to the curb. Eric and Cam’s parents watched them look at each of the cabs. Cam didn’t. She closed her eyes and said, “Click!” As a cab at the front of the line drove off, all the others moved up. Others kept joining the end of the line.
David A. Adler (The Birthday Mystery (Cam Jansen Mysteries, #20))
As the next page loaded with another set of 25 emails, his eyes were drawn to the bottom of the screen, where for the first time previously-read messages stood out beneath the bold-type unread ones.  There was something powerfully sentimental, almost tangible, about the realization that his dad had sat before a computer somewhere ten years earlier and had clicked on these same messages.  The most recent one, received just hours before his parents’ death, was from his mom with the subject line, “re: Li’l Ryan’s Bday”. With a lump developing in his throat, he clicked on the message.  His mom had written: “That’s something dads should talk to their sons about ;)”  Hmm.  Didn’t make sense without context. Below the end of the message he found the option to “show quoted text,”  which he clicked on to reveal the entire exchange in reverse chronological order.  She had been responding to his dad’s message: “I’m sure he’ll get it.  I like the idea, but you better be prepared to have a discussion about the birds and bees.  You know how his mind works.  He’ll want to know how that baby got in there.” Ryan’s palms grew sweaty as he began to infer what was coming next.  Not entirely sure he wanted to continue, but certain he couldn’t stop, he scrolled to the end. The thread had started with his mother’s message, “I’m already showing big-time.  Sweaters only get so baggy, and it’s going to be warming up soon.  I think tonight would be the perfect time to tell Ryan.  I wrapped up a T-shirt for him in one of his presents that says ‘Big Brother’ on it.  A birthday surprise!  You think he’ll get it?” Having trouble taking in a deep breath, he rose to a stand and slowly backed away from his computer.  It wasn’t his nature to ask fate “Why?” or to dwell on whether or not something was “fair.”  But this was utterly overwhelming – a knife wound on top of an old scar that had never sufficiently healed. ~~~ Corbett Hermanson peered around the edge of Bradford’s half-open door and knocked gently on the frame.  Bradford was sitting at his desk, leafing through a thick binder.  He had to have heard the knock, Corbett thought, peeking in, but his attention to the material in the binder remained unbroken. Now regretting his timid first knock, Corbett anxiously debated whether he should knock again, which could be perceived as rude, or try something else to get Bradford’s attention.  Ultimately he decided to clear his throat loudly, while standing more prominently in the doorway. Still, Bradford kept his nose buried in the files in front of him. Finally, Corbett knocked more confidently on the door itself. “What!” Bradford demanded.  “If you’ve got something to say, just say it!” “Sorry, sir.  Wasn’t sure you heard me,” Corbett said, with a nervous chuckle. “Do you think I’m deaf and blind?” Bradford sneered.  “Just get on with it already.” “Well sir, I’m sure you recall our conversation a few days back about the potential unauthorized user in our system?  It turns out...” “Close the door!” Bradford whispered emphatically, waving his arms wildly for Corbett to stop talking and come all the way into his office. “Sorry, sir,” Corbett said, his cheeks glowing an orange-red hue to match his hair.  After self-consciously closing the door behind him, he picked up where he’d left off.  “It turns out, he’s quite good at keeping himself hidden.  I was right about his not being in Indiana, but behind that location, his IP address bounces

find. Henry said she lived right across the hall.” Chapter 14 “So, this is the scene of the crime,” Ida said as they pulled up in front of an old Victorian. From outward appearances, it was hard to imagine that something sinister had happened inside. It was nicely kept, with off-white siding and purple trim. “Looks like a birthday cake,” Ruth said as they walked up the steps toward the purple door. She opened the door to reveal a small entryway. A set of stairs loomed in front of them. Old-fashioned green flowered wallpaper papered the walls. The floor was hardwood, scuffed from years of wear. To the right was a solid oak door with the number Two on it. “According to the case files, Rosa and Henry lived at number two.” Nans gestured toward the door on the other side of the hall which had a number One. “So this one must be Mrs. Pettigrew.” Ruth was standing closest to the door, so she knocked. “Who is it?” A voice drifted out almost before the knock stopped echoing. Clearly, Mrs. Pettigrew kept a close eye on the place and had seen them come in. “It’s the Ladies’ Detective Agency.” Nans’s voice took on an official tone. “We have some questions on a case if you’d be so kind as to answer them.” Of course, Doris Pettigrew would be thrilled to answer questions. If she was truly the busybody that it sounded like she was, she wouldn’t be able to resist the lure of gossip and finding out exactly what case the ladies were referring to. Lexy heard a series of locks clicking and chains sliding, and then the door cracked and a rheumy blue eye appeared. “Do you have any credentials?” “Of course.” Nans shoved a business card at her. It was in a laminate case, so it resembled an official badge of some sort. Doris snatched the card and pulled it inside. It took her a few seconds, but Nans’s card must have passed muster because the door opened and Doris said, “Come in.” Ida went in first. “Oh, this is… unusual.” Lexy peered over Ida’s head. She couldn’t be sure exactly what Ida thought was unusual. There were so many things. It could have been the giant four-foot-tall dolls that stood around the edge of the room. Or it might have been the knitted afghans that covered every surface. Or maybe it was the stuffed animals that were sitting on the couch as if holding a conversation. Then again, it might have been the herd of cats that was sniffing around Ida’s ankles. Doris handed the card back to Nans. “I’m Doris Pettigrew, by the way.” They all introduced themselves, and Doris gestured toward the living room for them to sit. Ida gingerly plucked a large pink elephant off the sofa and put it on the floor then took its place. A black cat immediately jumped into her lap. The rest of the ladies followed her lead, moving dolls aside, disturbing stuffed animals, and pushing cats out of their laps. Lexy sat in the only chair not occupied by a stuffed animal. The smell of mothballs wafted up as the rough wool of the crocheted granny square pillow irritated her arm. Achoo! Helen sneezed and pushed the fluffy tail of a white Persian out of her face.

Was that where he…” She hesitated, unable to finish the question. “Died,” he said, finishing it for her. “That’s where he died. Yes.” “Did you see him before that?” “Once. On my eighteenth birthday.” The room was white, Dan thought. So white and lonely. Only the buzzing of the overhead light and the psychiatrist’s pen, clicking in and out, as they stared at the silent, shackled form of his older brother. A pale visage, deathly so. A form that didn’t move but simply existed, staring slack-jawed at the corner of the room. A form that whispered “I’m sorry” in an endless loop. It was a husk, a shade, and whatever lived inside was silent and still.

On the Birthday of Murtaza Bhutto My nephew drives on a route that crosses alongside 70 Clifton every day since I am in Karachi. It reminds me that I was then a working journalist. I visited the last 70 Clifton in 1977, the resident of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, later, Benazir Bhutto, and then Murtaza Bhutto and Fatima Bhutto during the driving towards Karachi Press Club; I asked my nephew to stop near 70 Clifton so that we can click a few pics of it. Today is Murtaza Bhutto's Birthday, and he became the victim of armed evil and murder. I stood outside 70 Clifton, remembering inside the conversations, discussions, and delightful atmosphere in the Bhutto era. I felt sadness and pain, imagining that time when pleasure, joy, and mob walked around it, but today it was dead-quiet and displayed sadness on its walls; the Birthday existed; however, the figure held that day was not there, and his daughter far away from Pakistan in exile-life, though the justice has failed, not the God.

Aza [Raskin] said: 'For instance, Facebook tomorrow could start batching your notifications, so you only get one push notification a day ... They could do that tomorrow.' ....So instead of getting 'this constant drip of behavioural cocaine,' telling you every few minutes that somebody liked your picture, commented on your post, has a birthday tomorrow, and on and on - you would get one daily update, like a newspaper, summarising it all. You'd be pushed to look once a day, instead of being interrupted several times an hour. 'Here's another one,' he said 'Infinite scroll. ...it's catching your impulses before your brain has a chance to really get involved and make a decision.' Facebook and Instagram and the others could simply turn off infinite scroll - so that when you get to the bottom of the screen, you have to make a conscious decision to carry on scrolling. Similarly, these sites could simply switch off the things that have been shown to most polarise people politically, stealing our ability to pay collective attention. Since there's evidence YouTube's recommendation engine is radicalising people, Tristan [Harris] told one interviewer: 'Just turn it off. They can turn it off in a heartbeat.' It's not as if, he points out, the day before recommendations were introduced, people were lost and clamouring for somebody to tell them what to watch next. Once the most obvious forms of mental pollution have been stopped, they said, we can begin to look deeper, at how these sites could be redesigned to make it easier for you to restrain yourself and think about your longer-term goals. ...there could be a button that says 'here are all your friends who are nearby and are indicating they'd like to meet up today.' You click it, you connect, you put down your phone and hang out with them. Instead of being a vacuum sucking up your attention and keeping it away from the outside world, social media would become a trampoline, sending you back into that world as efficiently as possible, matched with the people you want to see. Similarly, when you set up (say) a Facebook account, it could ask you how much time you want to spend per day or per week on the site. ...then the website could help you to achieve your goal. One way could be that when you hit that limit, the website could radically slow down. In tests, Amazon found that even 100 milliseconds of delay in the pace at which a page loads results in a substantial drop-off in people sticking around to buy the product. Aza said: 'It just gives your brain a chance to catch up to your impulse and [ask] - do I really want to be here? No.' In addition, Facebook could ask you at regular intervals - what changes do you want to make to your life? ...then match you up with other people nearby... who say they also want to make that change and have indicated they are looking for the equivalent of gym buddies. ...A battery of scientific evidence shows that if you want to succeed in changing something, you should meet up with groups of people doing the same. At the moment, they said, social media is designed to grab your attention and sell it to the highest bidder, but it could be designed to understand your intentions and to better help you achieve them. Tristan and Aza told me that it's just as easy to design and program this life-affirming Facebook as the life-draining Facebook we currently have. I think that most people, if you stopped them in the street and painted them a vision of these two Facebooks, would say they wanted the one that serves your intentions. So why isn't it happened? It comes back... to the business model.

My passion for cooking meals for loved ones originated when I was growing up. Because our family didn't have much materially, my siblings and I didn't get excited about gifts and Christmas and birthdays--but we were exuberant in anticipation of the food! I remember my mother preparing and cooking food for days before Christmas. You could smell the aromas wafting throughout the house, and if you were lucky, she would allow you to lick the spoon and taste a little bit beforehand. As a result, my wife and I now delight in showing the same love my mother put into the preparation of special meals into the celebrations we enjoy. From all those years of watching my mother prepare food for the family, and from my own limited experience in the kitchen, I've realized an important lesson: quality takes time. While most people tend to agree with me, no one particularly enjoys waiting patiently for the turkey to come out of the oven or for the pie crust to be made from scratch. We want the quality, but we don't want to wait for it. As I look around, it doesn't take much to see that this current generation is accustomed to fast foods, instant information, and new friendships at the click of a button. Because of such immediate results, we've ignored the diminishing quality of those things we recieve instantly and our subsequent lack of appreciation for them. Our desire for instant gratification has ushered us to the point that we sacrifice excellent quality because of the difficulty and time it takes to produce it.

In the morning, I jumped out of bed with a burst of excitement, the song “Child of Mine” playing in my head. Happy birthday to me! I’d been wanting a baby for the past several years, and finding a donor I felt so comfortable with seemed like the best birthday present ever. Heading to the computer, I smiled at my good fortune—I was really going to do this. I typed in the sperm bank’s URL, found the donor’s profile, and read it all over again. I was just as certain as I’d been the night before that he was The One—the one that would make sense to my child when he or she asked why, of all the possible donors, I chose this guy. I placed the donor in my online shopping cart—just as I might with a book on Amazon—double-checked the order, then clicked Purchase Vials. I’m having a baby! I thought. The moment felt monumental. As the order processed, I planned what I had to do next: Make an appointment for the insemination, buy prenatal vitamins, put together a baby registry, get the baby’s room set up. Between thoughts, I noticed that my order was taking a while to complete. The rotating circle on my screen, known as the “spinning wheel of death,” seemed to be spinning for an unusually long time. I waited, waited some more, and finally tried using the back button in case my computer was crashing. But nothing happened. Finally, the spinning wheel of death disappeared and a message popped up: Out of stock. Out of stock? I figured there must be some computer glitch—maybe when I pressed the back button?—so I speed-dialed the sperm bank and asked for Kathleen, but she was out and I got transferred to a customer-service rep named Barb. Barb looked into the matter and determined that this was no glitch. I’d selected a very popular donor, she said. She went on to explain that popular donors went quickly and that, while the company tried to “restock” their “inventory” often, there was a six-month hold for it so it could get quarantined and tested. Even when the inventory was made available, she said, there still might be a long wait, because some people had placed it on back order. As Barb spoke, I thought of how Kathleen had called just yesterday. Now it occurred to me that maybe she’d suggested this donor to several women. Like me, maybe many women had bonded with Kathleen over her honest appraisals of semen.

Make another list. A list of what you did today. It doesn't matter what day it is, weekday, weekend, holiday, birthday, the calendar date is irrelevant. Write down all the things that occupied your time on a given day. Woke up, ate breakfast, hit the gym, went to work, surfed the Internet, had a coffee with a colleague, did some work, ate some lunch, did some more work, slipped out to buy new sneakers, clicked around on social media sites, went home, called a parent, watched TV, ate dinner, changed outfits, met someone for a drink, made out with them on a street corner, caught a taxi home, read a book, went to sleep. That's what you believe in. According to Greta, your belief system is how you actually spend your time every day.

Avoid using easily guessable information such as birthdays or common words. Opt for a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols to enhance security. Regularly updating your password is also advisable to prevent unauthorized access. Two-factor authentication (2FA) is another vital security feature. By enabling 2FA, you add an extra layer of protection, requiring a second form of verification before accessing your account. This can be in the form of a code sent to your mobile device or email, significantly reducing the risk of breaches. Additionally, stay vigilant for phishing attempts. Cybercriminals often use deceptive emails or websites to trick users into revealing sensitive information. Always verify the authenticity of communications and avoid clicking on suspicious links.

Tips for Maintaining the Security of Your Bybit Accounts If you have any questions or want to confirm your order, please contact us: WhatsApp: ‪+1 (227) 236-9368‬ Email: usaservicepoint@gmail.com Telegram: @usaservicepoint Crypto hacks stole over $3 billion from exchanges last year. That number grabs your attention, right? In the fast-moving world of cryptocurrency, keeping your Bybit account safe is key to protecting your hard-earned funds. This guide shares practical tips to boost your Bybit account security setup. You'll learn simple steps to shield your data and trades from common threats. Understanding Bybit Account Security Basics Bybit stands out as a top spot for derivatives trading. Its busy platform draws in lots of users, but that also means hackers eye it closely. You handle your own security here, even with Bybit's strong tools in place. Why Bybit Security Matters in Crypto Trading Bybit lets you trade futures and options with high leverage. This setup appeals to serious traders, yet it creates risks from cyber attacks. The exchange stores most funds in cold wallets, away from online threats. Still, past industry breaches show why you must stay alert. Your trades depend on quick access, so one slip could cost you big. Think of it like locking your front door in a busy neighborhood—built-in safety helps, but you add the extra bolt. Common Vulnerabilities in Crypto Accounts Hackers often target weak spots like easy guesses for passwords. Phishing tricks fool users into giving away login details. Reports show billions lost yearly to these scams in the crypto space. Social engineering plays a role too, where fraudsters pose as friends or support. Malware on your device can steal keys without you knowing. Spot these early, and you cut down the dangers. Bybit's Built-in Security Features Bybit offers tools like two-factor authentication to add a second check on logins. You can also set up withdrawal whitelists to limit where funds go. IP whitelisting blocks access from unknown locations. Start by going to your account settings after signing up. Enable these right away—it's quick and builds a solid base. Anti-phishing codes help spot fake emails from the real ones. Setting Up Strong Account Protections A strong start keeps threats at bay from day one. Focus on basics like passwords and extra layers. These steps fit right into your Bybit routine without much hassle. Creating a Secure Password and Username Pick a password that's tough to crack—at least 16 characters long. Mix in uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols, but skip your birthday or pet's name. Use a different one just for Bybit, not the same as your email or bank. Tools like LastPass or Bitwarden store them safely and fill them in when you log in. Avoid simple usernames like "trader123"; go for something unique. This small effort stops brute-force attacks cold. Enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) Bybit supports 2FA through apps like Google Authenticator or Authy. Skip SMS if you can—it's easier for hackers to hijack. Download the app, scan the QR code from your Bybit security page, and save the backup codes offline. If you lose your phone, use those codes to recover access. Never share your 6-digit code with anyone, even if they claim to be support. It adds that vital second lock to your digital door. Activating Anti-Phishing Measures Set a custom code in Bybit's settings to mark real emails. Any official message from them will include this code. Check it before you click links. Always look at the URL—bybit.com is the only real one; byblt.com is a fake. Report odd emails to Bybit's support team fast. Train yourself to pause and verify—it's your best shield against sneaky tricks. Safeguarding Against Phishing and Scams Phishing hits crypto users hard, with fake sites stealing credentials daily. Learn to spot them, and you'll trade with peace of mind. These tips turn you into a sharp defender. Recognizing

Can I book event-friendly hotels directly through Expedia? Absolutely! Expedia lists thousands of hotels that welcome special events—weddings, anniversaries, corporate retreats, you name it. When you search, use filters like “event space,” “group rates,” or “accessible rooms” to narrow your options. Many properties even showcase photos of their banquet halls or meeting rooms right on the listing. But here’s the pro tip: while you can book your room online, calling ️☎️+1(888) 429-2577️☎️+1(888) 429-2577️☎️+1(888) 429-2577 gives you access to extra perks you won’t see on-screen—like discounted group blocks, early check-in, or waived resort fees. Hotels often hold back special inventory for phone bookings, especially for events. How do I request group rates for my event on Expedia? Group bookings (usually 5+ rooms) often come with special pricing and perks—but you won’t find those deals by clicking “Book Now.” Instead, you’ll need to reach out directly. Many hotels also offer flexible cancellation terms for group blocks, which is huge if your guest list is still changing. The key? Many hotels on Expedia feature ballrooms, gardens, or conference rooms perfect for gatherings. Use the “Amenities” filter and select “Meeting/Banquet Facilities” to see only event-ready properties. But here’s the thing: photos and descriptions don’t tell the whole story. Room capacity, AV equipment, catering rules, and noise policies vary wildly. The steps are easy to follow. Even if English is not your first language, you will understand them well. Why Securing Your PayPal Account Matters When you use PayPal, you share personal and financial data. Hackers want to steal this information. If they do, they can take your money or use your account for bad things. Securing your account stops this. It protects your money and your identity. Also, if your PayPal account is not verified, you may face limits. You might not be able to send or receive large amounts. Verification helps PayPal trust you. It also helps you get back your account fast if you lose access. Step 1: Use a Strong Password Your password is the first line of defense. A weak password is easy to guess. A strong password is hard to break. Make your password at least 8 characters long. Use a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols. Do not use your name, birthday, or simple words. Try to use a random combination, like "M7k!p2#s". Change your password every few months. Remember, never share your password with anyone. PayPal will never ask for your password by email or phone. Step 2: Turn on Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) Two-Factor Authentication adds an extra layer of security. After you enter your password, PayPal will ask for a code. This code is sent to your phone or email. This way, even if someone gets your password, they cannot enter your account without the code. To turn on 2FA: Log in to your PayPal account. Go to Settings (gear icon). Find Security or Two-Step Verification. Choose your preferred method (SMS or authentication app). Follow the steps to activate it. Use an authentication app like Google Authenticator if possible. It is safer than SMS. Step 3: Link and Confirm Your Email Address Your email address is very important for PayPal. It is your login ID and the place for important messages. Make sure your email is correct and you have access to it. To confirm your email: Log in to PayPal. Go to Settings and then Email. Check if your email is listed and marked as confirmed. If not confirmed, PayPal will send a confirmation email. Open the email and click the confirmation link. This step helps PayPal trust your account. It also lets you receive alerts if something is wrong. Step 4: Link Your Bank Account and Credit Card To fully use PayPal, you should link a bank account or credit card. This lets you add money, withdraw funds, and pay easily. Linking your bank or card also helps PayPal verify your identity. To link a bank account: Go to Wallet in your PayPal account. Click Link a bank. Enter your bank details as asked. PayPal may make small deposits to your bank. Check your bank statement and enter those amounts in PayPal to confirm. To link a credit or debit card: Go to Wallet. Click Link a card. Enter your card number, expiry date, and CVV. PayPal may charge a small fee to verify the card. Look at your card statement for a code from PayPal. Enter the code in PayPal to confirm.

☎️+1(888) 429 1540 Planning a group trip and need to tweak your bookings? ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 Whether it’s a family reunion, sports team road trip, or friends’ getaway gone wild—plans shift. ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 British Airways gets it. You don’t have to stress over rigid rules or endless forms. Changing group travel isn’t just possible—it’s smooth, simple, and totally doable. This guide breaks down everything you need to know in real talk, no fluff. Let’s make your group’s journey epic—no matter what changes come up. Can I change the dates for my whole group at once? Yes—you can update all your group’s flight dates in one go, but only if they’re on the same booking reference. Log into your account, find the group reservation, and click “Modify.” If everyone’s flying together under one confirmation code, you’ll see all names listed. Pick new departure and return dates, and the system will show matching options for the entire squad. No need to edit each person separately. Just pick a date that works for most, and BA will try to lock in the same fare tier across the board. If prices jumped since you booked, you might pay the difference—but no change fees apply if your ticket type allows it. Pro tip: Try shifting by just one day. Sometimes flights open up with better rates. If the website freezes or feels confusing, call ☎️+1(888) 429 1540. Real people handle group edits daily—they’ve seen every kind of scenario, from prom night delays to last-minute birthday surprises. They’ll check seat availability, confirm baggage rules, and even suggest alternate routes that save time. And hey—if someone needs to stay longer or leave earlier, they can often split the group without canceling the whole thing. Just ask. They love making trips work. What if someone in my group needs to cancel? No biggie. You don’t have to scrap the whole booking if one person bails. British Airways lets you remove individuals from a group reservation without affecting others. Just log in, find your booking, and select “Remove Passenger.” The system automatically adjusts pricing based on how many are left. If you had a group discount, it might change—but you won’t lose money on the rest. The canceled passenger gets a refund (minus any non-refundable portions), and everyone else stays locked in. Super handy for last-minute sickness, emergencies, or just someone realizing they hate flying. But here’s the catch: if you remove someone too close to departure, you might not get a full refund depending on your fare rules. Still, you won’t be stuck paying for a seat that’s empty. Call ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 if things get messy. They can walk you through the exact refund amount, reissue e-tickets, and even help you add a replacement traveler if needed. Want to swap names? Totally possible—just give them the new person’s info and passport details. They’ll handle the paperwork so you don’t have to. Can I upgrade everyone in my group at the same time? You bet. Upgrading your whole crew is easier than you think. Go to “Manage Booking,” pick “Upgrade Seats,” and boom—you’ll see premium economy, business, or first-class options for every name on the list. If you’ve got 6 people, you can upgrade all six at once with one click. Prices vary per person based on original fare, but you’ll get the same perks across the board: extra legroom, priority boarding, better meals, and lounge access. Even better? Sometimes BA offers flash upgrades for groups during slow travel periods. Call ☎️+1(888) 429 1540 and ask if there’s a secret deal going. They’ll check inventory, compare costs, and sometimes throw in free drinks or snacks as a bonus. Don’t assume upgrades cost a fortune—sometimes they’re cheaper than booking separate tickets. Plus, traveling together in upgraded seats? Way more fun. Imagine watching a movie with your squad while sipping sparkling water. Yes, please. Do I need to pay a fee to change group bookings? Usually not.

If you see any unexplained transactions or activities that you didn’t authorize, report them immediately to Binance support. Learning how to secure your PayPal account with tools like 2FA, anti-phishing strategies, and smart safety habits can save you from financial loss and endless stress. ──────────────────────────────────────────────── ──➤SmmusaZone 24/7 live chat support ──➤ Email: smmusazone@gmail.com ──➤ Telegram: @smmusazone ──➤WhatsApp: +1 (850) 247-7643 ──────────────────────────────────────────────── Why PayPal Security Matters The Growing Threat of Online Fraud Every day, hackers find new ways to exploit online users. Phishing, identity theft, and account takeovers have become common, and PayPal’s global popularity makes it a frequent target. Why Hackers Target PayPal Accounts PayPal is directly linked to your bank and credit cards, meaning access to your account can lead to unauthorized transactions, data theft, and even scams in your name. Understanding the Basics of PayPal Security Encryption and Secure Transactions PayPal uses end-to-end encryption to keep your financial data safe. However, encryption can’t protect you if you hand over your login credentials to a phishing site. The Role of User Awareness Technology helps, but human error remains the biggest security risk. Staying alert to signs of scams or unusual behavior is your first line of defense. Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) What Is Two-Factor Authentication? 2FA adds an extra security layer to your login process. Instead of relying on just a password, PayPal requires a one-time code sent to your phone or authentication app. How to Enable 2FA on PayPal Log in to your PayPal account. Go to Settings → Security → 2-Step Verification. Choose your verification method: SMS or authenticator app. Enter the code and confirm. Why 2FA Drastically Improves Security Even if someone steals your password, they won’t be able to log in without that secondary verification code. It’s like having a lock and a deadbolt on your digital wallet. Recognizing and Avoiding Phishing Scams What Are Phishing Emails? Phishing emails are fraudulent messages designed to trick you into revealing personal information. They often mimic PayPal’s official branding to appear legitimate. Common Signs of PayPal Phishing Attempts “Your account has been limited” or “unusual activity detected” messages Emails from strange addresses (like “paypal-security@xyz.com”) Suspicious links asking for personal details Poor grammar or formatting inconsistencies How to Report a Phishing Scam If you receive a suspicious message, don’t click any links. Forward it to phishing@paypal.com and delete it immediately. Protecting Your Login Credentials Creating a Strong Password Avoid common passwords like password123 or your birthday. Instead, use a combination of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols. Using a Password Manager Password managers help you create and store strong, unique passwords for every platform. This prevents you from reusing weak credentials. Avoiding Public Wi-Fi Risks Never log into your PayPal account on public Wi-Fi. If necessary, use a VPN to encrypt your connection and prevent snooping. Email and Device Security Best Practices Securing Your Linked Email Account Your PayPal account is tied to your email — if someone hacks your email, they can reset your PayPal password. Use 2FA on your email too. Keeping Your Devices Safe from Malware Regularly update your operating system, browser, and antivirus software. Outdated systems are prime targets for cyberattacks. Recognizing Suspicious Account Activity Warning Signs of a Compromised Account Unexpected logins or IP addresses Unrecognized transactions
