DON’T THINK, FEEL flickers from an electric billboard cutting out the darkness.
Adam Scott Huerta (Motive Black (Motive Black Series, #1))
Hi there! Don't let yourself become a billboard for the products of the dark city. Stay vigilant!

Your face may not be on a billboard, and your name may not be on any memorabilia, but if you are bold enough to pursue your purpose in life, many people will come on board and realize that you were born for a special cause.

If you could have a gigantic billboard anywhere with anything on it, what would it say and why? A single bottom line of profit motive no longer serves our interdependent world. We must move from a focus on shareholders to one on stakeholders, take a long-term view, and measure what matters, not just what we can count. That’s a lot easier to say than to do. So we created a manifesto at Acumen, a moral compass to guide our decisions and actions. It is an aspirational document, one I think about daily, though I don’t always live up to it. It is long for a billboard, but maybe if we put it in the right place and encouraged people to pause for just a moment, which in itself wouldn’t be so bad. Here it is: It starts by standing with the poor, listening to voices unheard, and recognizing potential where others see despair. It demands investing as a means, not an end, daring to go where markets have failed and aid has fallen short. It makes capital work for us, not control us. It thrives on moral imagination: the humility to see the world as it is, and the audacity to imagine the world as it could be. It’s having the ambition to learn at the edge, the wisdom to admit failure, and the courage to start again. It requires patience and kindness, resilience and grit: a hard-edged hope. It’s leadership that rejects complacency, breaks through bureaucracy, and challenges corruption. Doing what’s right, not what’s easy. It’s the radical idea of creating hope in a cynical world. Changing the way the world tackles poverty and building a world based on dignity. Or else, I might borrow Rilke’s gorgeous mantra to “Live the Questions,” which is a simple reminder to have the moral courage to live in the gray, sit with uncertainty but not in a passive way. Live the questions so that, one day, you will live yourself into the answers. . . . What advice would you give to a smart, driven college student about to enter the “real world”? Don’t worry all that much about your first job. Just start, and let the work teach you. With every step, you will discover more about who you want to be and what you want to do. If you wait for the perfect and keep all of your options open, you might end up with nothing but options. So start.

Formal education is like a billboard for the blind. It robs us of our autodidactic nature. Who taught the first teacher?

LinkedIn Accounts: The Digital Passport to Professional Identity In an increasingly digital world, our online presence shapes how we’re seen and how we connect. For professionals, few platforms have had as significant an impact as LinkedIn. More than just a resume or a job board, a LinkedIn account functions as a living, evolving portfolio—one that reflects not only what you’ve done but also where you’re headed. Whether you're a seasoned executive, an aspiring freelancer, or a recent graduate, understanding how a LinkedIn account works—and why it matters—can shape the trajectory of your professional life in unexpected ways. At its core, a LinkedIn account is a digital profile that showcases your professional experience, skills, education, and achievements. But that’s just the surface. What makes LinkedIn different from other social platforms is its laser focus on career development and professional networking. When you create an account, you’re not just uploading a resume—you’re entering a global ecosystem of over 950 million professionals, recruiters, companies, and thought leaders. Each profile acts as both a personal brand and a gateway to new opportunities. What truly sets LinkedIn apart is its ability to bridge the gap between passive and active engagement. Even when you're not actively looking for a job, your presence on the platform allows recruiters and potential collaborators to find you. With features like endorsements, recommendations, and shared content, LinkedIn accounts become more than just static pages—they transform into interactive hubs of credibility and connection. An endorsement from a peer or a written recommendation from a manager can speak volumes more than bullet points on a traditional resume. One of the most overlooked powers of a LinkedIn account lies in its ability to host your professional narrative. The summary section, for instance, allows users to craft a personal story—an elevator pitch that encapsulates who you are, what you do, and what drives you. This narrative can be deeply humanizing in a digital world, helping others understand not just your skills, but your motivations, passions, and goals. LinkedIn also empowers users to share their voices. Through articles, posts, and comments, your account becomes a platform for thought leadership. This isn’t limited to influencers or C-suite executives. Mid-level managers, freelancers, consultants, and even students can establish their credibility by contributing to conversations in their industry. A well-written post can spark discussions, attract attention from hiring managers, or even lead to collaborations that span continents. But perhaps the most potent function of a LinkedIn account is how it facilitates discovery. Unlike other platforms that operate in closed social circles, LinkedIn thrives on professional expansion. You can follow companies, connect with industry experts, and receive tailored job recommendations that align with your interests and skills. The algorithm isn't just pushing content—it’s curating opportunities. With every profile view, message, or connection request, your LinkedIn account becomes an engine for growth. It’s easy to dismiss LinkedIn as “just another social media site,” but doing so misses the point. This platform has redefined how we think about professional visibility. In a world where who you know often intersects with what you know, having a well-crafted LinkedIn account is no longer optional—it’s essential. It’s your digital handshake, your professional billboard, and your silent recruiter, all rolled into one.
