He did not have the clothing. He did not have the experience. He did not have the skills. He’d be trapped above the Khumbu Icefall, two thousand of the most vicious feet of real estate on earth. And although classified as dormant, Kilimanjaro has begun to stir, and evidence suggests that a massive landslide could rip open the side of the mountain causing a cataclysmic flow of hot gases and rock, similar to Mount St. Helens.” A volcano?! They’re still making volcanoes? But the biggest threat on Kilimanjaro was altitude sickness. It happened when you ascended too quickly. Symptoms could be as mild as nausea, shortness of breath, and a headache. At its worst it resulted in pulmonary edema, where your lungs filled up with fluid (essentially, drowning on land), or cerebral edema, where your brain swelled. The nearest fully equipped hospital accident and emergency facility is typically one to two hours away. Numerous very high altitude workers have been killed due to fatal mistakes on the job. Workers are expected to use a variety of company supplied drugs to offset the daily very high altitude sickness including "RX-Only" prescription medical oxygen. Daily long term self medication is known to damage human health. The work environment is comparable to a Faraday cage and Faraday Cage Sickness (FCS) may occur in long term workers. His entire body was like ice, and he was crippled by altitude sickness. Yet he kept stumbling on. Finally, against all odds, Beck Weathers lurched into camp. Beck lost both his hands and his nose to frostbite, yet that tiny ember that burnt within him, that ember of hope from his family, was all he needed to get up and to move. That ember saved his life. Never underestimate the human spirit.

I had never been fired out of a job until I worked at the very high altitude summit of Mauna Kea. Afterwards, I was either fired or harassed out of every job until I became so sick that I filed for disability. I later discovered that Mauna Kea is biologically toxic to the sea level adapted human.

Mal-acclimatization occurs when the human has no long term adaptation to any altitude due to frequent changes in altitude over 4,900 feet. Mal-acclimatization may lead to long term sickness, gender issues, genetic changes, disease and premature death in the human.

Prolonged altitude sickness generally leads to altitude diseases.

One of the bad habits I developed in very high altitude astronomy was eating a bowl of free ice cream for breakfast, as the free cooked breakfast would make me feel really sickly when at the summit of Mauna Kea.

Many people will be displaying mental impairment, often called “Summit Brain”. Immediate descent to lower altitude is recommended for these people. Most people will be in oxygen starvation, also known as Asphyxia.

Through chronic and disabling sickness, I turned into a world leading expert in many specialties.
